- Nintendo Game Boy Color review! classicgameroom...
Classic Game Room reviews the NINTENDO GAME BOY COLOR handheld game system released in 1998! As the name suggests, the Game Boy Color is a Game Boy that delivers color. This model is similar in size to the Game Boy pocket and lacks a backlit screen, but it does have a massive game library filled with must-play games. Comes in a variety of colors too! CGR GameBoy Color video review features Nintendo Game Boy Color video game footage like Super Mario Bros. Deluxe!
That's not pink it's ATOMIC PURPLE, quite possibly the most rad color of all time!
I have an Atomic Purple N64 controller, too bad that the analog stick is very, VERY loose
Castlemaster712 Replace the analog with a gamecube-ish 3rd party analog. It's worth it.
Truly Atomic I want to (to have 2 different controllers, a precise one and a comfortable one) but I'm kinda lazy since they take a lot to ship ._.
Castlemaster712 Fair enough, but it is something that I do recommend if you ever do get around to do it.
My 2 controllers with gamecube sticks are perfect.
Truly Atomic I know they're good, but if I'm playing a game like Zelda, I would totally choose the original, precise stick (though the gcn stick is good for Mario kart, or maybe Quake)
The GBC is one of my favorite systems for not only nostalgia but durability. My poor poor purple GBC survived pokemania, being dropped, carted to many many doctor appointments and hospital stays, it was washed twice and dropped I don't know how many times, it still works and plays beautifully. It's my GB of choice if I don't have an outlet near by.
It's not "Pink", it's "Atomic Purple".
+ChozoSR388 Code 69 I repeat, we got a Code 69. We got a smartass over here
Zach Plays
Not a smartass, that's the actual name of the color style for that particular GameBoy Color.
Zach Plays
'Salright. I was just explaining mysellf is all.
ChozoSR388 I owned one just like you have its in good condition and works well
Hi was up
I remember when I had a gameboy color. Back then, we were satisfied with 8-bit games with color which were portable. Nowadays people even whine about IOS or Android games that are not displayed in HD. Damn I sound old for a twenty-something.
I'm 18 and I feel the same way. I really dislike smartphone gaming these days, and I'll continue to carry around dedicated handheld consoles with me (right now I carry around a PSP & a 3DS XL) because I'm kind of old school and I still like the feel of real buttons instead of touching the screen to control the game (well the 3DS has a touchscreen, but that's besides the point). I also couldn't care about visual quality, hell my phone only has a 480p screen and I'm perfectly fine with it. I mean 10 years ago I would have been blown away to have what we have today.
People are so impatient and unappreciative these days, and that kinda makes me sad.
lol We never could have imagined anything we have now back then....
Of course standards will change. That isn't a bad thing, either. That's like complaining about the automotive consumer demanding more horsepower and fuel efficiency because you had an original Mustang that had 164 hosepower and got 15 mpg and were ok with it 50 years ago.
***** You look like Tyrion Lannister bud. No hate, just saying..
***** Nintendo was top of the line back then. So saying people had low standards makes no sense.
I like how he actually showed the screen without the using the gamecube.
I've been collecting gameboy so much this year! Someone actually made me a custom legend of Zelda gameboy, going to have to review it on my channel this week and show it's art off.
Hey . . dreamcastguy you're one of my favorite youtubers! kudos to you!
Still have mine and still play it as well as my game gear to this day! Game Boy Color was great cause the batteries lasted very very long
10 hour battery life.
There were certain original GameBoy games that by default had their own, completely unique color schemes. One such instance was Super Mario Land. If you play it on the Gameboy Color and don't change the color scheme at the boot up screen, then by default, it's going to have a very diverse pallet which was something most other Gameboy games did not offer.
I think you might need your eyes examined, Mark. That Gameboy Color is not pink. It's purple. The transparent plastic seems to be throwing you off.
*****
yeah it's really weird, it's called atomic purple(if you wanned to know)
God dang Nintendo always releasing new handhelds and making old ones obsolete. Now I have to get rid of my game boy and get a gameboy color
Much like apple and their iphones. Announce a new phone is coming out, release the iOS update and now your iWhatever is obsolete. That'll be hundreds of dollars please.
Damn technology, always advancing! Or... Advance SPing... Or... something!
MiamiZombie2012 You're paying for some extra features too you know..
With a little bit of bending, your iphone 6 plus is amazing as a apple watch!
dries123ful just with a side affect of destroying itself
***** That's so obsolete, all the cool kids have the Nintendo Gameboy Advanced SP! XD
The end of this video is PRICELESS. I mean... I loved the review and all, but the ending? Oh, man. Amazing. Tiger Assault!
I didn't laugh... Just turned down the volume and left this video.
+zzzhuh wow you reminds me to squidward
MetalSonicodraco7342
Well believe it or not, as you get older you relate to squidward more so than anyone else in the show kid.
+zzzhuh Im 16 and this is still funny.
MetalSonicodraco7342
What is funny about this guy? He makes the exact same joke in every episode, just changing the console.
For example:
"This is the Sega genesis, also known as the mega drive. It plays all your classic genesis games, but it does not however play neo geo games."
Seriously, how many times can he possibly make that joke before even he gets annoyed with it?
On game boy games, you can even choose the colour by pressing on the D-pad or coming back in black and white by pressing on B and the D-pad at the same time. It's also works on game boy advance. You can only do it when it's just been turned on.
The gamecom strikes again!
Call the gamer police!!!!
they should make a horror movie about the gamecom
kinda like the movie with the tire who kills people with its psionic powers
How 'bout the Hyperscan? *plays Silent Hill's "My Heaven" theme. *cough* sarcasm *cough*
115DELDE pop-station watch, more like it
115DELDE I bet most gamer polices hate cheat devices lolz
“You can hit people with this.” Lol love it😂
It's clear purple, not pink.
it can be both right? right?
Lets assume Mark might be seeing the color a bit wrong. That does happen.
5:47 for me this is the scariest part of the video because it is like a guy screaming at a red screen because it is saying that the gameboy color can't play truxton
I had a atomic purple game boy color when they were new. I spent so much money on games and loved every minute of it.
I had 1942, bionic commando, dragons lair, dragon warrior 1 and 2, mega man Xtreme, perfect dark, WWF wrestlemania 2000, street fighter alpha, donkey Kong country, super Mario bros deluxe.
It kept me company on bus rides and waiting for appointments and my friends loved paying on it too.
Him: so the gamebo-
Everybody else: AtOmIc PuRpLe, YoU fOoL ! ! ! ! !
This was my first gaming device. I saved up birthday money to get this from the Mall of America in fall of 1999. First game i ever played was Super Mario Bros. Delux. This is the most nostalgic game console of all time for me personally.
long awaited video
That ending was possibly the best finisher to a review I've ever seen!
Finally the long the awaited review of the GBC
You would think over 10 years of improvement would mean mobile gaming would be better than this, but its not.
Gameboy color > smartphone
Your fucking everywhere
Derp Herp my first time I see him is from microsoft vs sony vs nintendo by IGN.
Troll4ever31 ._. Mobile gaming will be the death of gaming period.
+Troll4ever31 ._. His Kryptonite is horrible game systems
Wheels8504 I have a sneaking suspicion you are correct.
On the old gameboy games if you hold the B button you can chose a color pallet by pressing any direction on the d-pad.
Thanks! Can you change the color with a GBA SP?
Yep! But only with original Gamboy Games not color
Look at this :D (I discovered it myself :P) www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/gameboyadvance/colorchange.jsp
Tom Atkinson Thanks!
Castlemaster712 Cool! Thanks, you two!
I think it's Atomic purple. Just like mine.
That "giant robots" game is B-Daman. Those "robots" (don't think they're even intended as being robotic) are hand-sized tools with which to shoot marbles. :P
why was bomber man in a b-daman game?
Love that fade to black ending.
I remember with my GB color, I used to be so OCD about keeping the screen scratch free. As I see Mark's GB so scratched at the screen. It doesn't bother some you know.
Dude you're so color blind. It's obviously green.
sonicdoesfrontflips 😕
sonicdoesfrontflips you are blinder than a bat
nah i see orange
sonicdoesfrontflips no the translucent shell is purple
Guy's, its a translucent Purple.
Fun Fact: the colored letters on the gameboy color where it says "Color" is actually colored that way, because those are the colors that the gameboy color had available as different colors that the consoles were sold with.
Meaning that the hot pink "c" represented a gameboy color system that was colored in hot pink, etc.
Yet the Game Boy Color in this video is a different color altogether XD
+mario64remix I don't think that's what he was talking about. The GBC model color shown is represented by the "o" in logo which is the same as the handheld meaning there are five different models for GBC.
+Billy Naing The O in color represents purple. This is the clear variant. It has a purple tint to it but it's not the same.
The Gameboy color was the very first handheld console that I ever owned. My dad got me a Grape GBC with a copy of a Rugrats game. Later on, I got and Atomic Purple GBC for Christmas with a copy of super mario dx. Good times.
It's called Atomic Purple. My sister gave me hers when I was five or six. It still works and I'll play it at my HS
Man seeing this bring back memories. AA Batteries were gold back then. No backlit scratch resistant screen. Glare was tough as well. We still had a blast....
I have been waiting so long for this review :') yay!
I miss my game boy color. I had this exact same "pink" one.
Mmm, memories. My first console was a Gameboy Color, with Pokemon Yellow as me first game.
Kawaii Koinu :D (かわいい子犬)
So that Puppy-game is literally called "Cute Puppy"
Okay, this is 90s and I'm in 2017 and I really want one of these bad boys!
When you put in Donkey Kong Country and played it, soooo many memories rushed back into my head. The gameplay, the music, it was awesome
What a twist ending!
Also, I think that GBC was purple.
3:27 he sounds all most exactly like Michael Cera in scott pillgrim
Another instantly classic episode of classic game room.
Laughed my ads off when he tried shoving a 32x cartridge in there, ha ha XD!!!
That's my EXACT first hand held console I had before! Great times.
I used to have that purple transparent model, it was my first handheld.
Not counting those Tetris 10 on 1 handhelds.
When I was really young, I had a Gameboy color and my sister had a GBA. Eventually my mom sold both of them to buy us two gba-sp's. I really wish she had kept the gbc.
That sucks at least you can still play GBC games on GBA SP
beautiful the transparent model.
My favorite portable device of all time.
There is a light accessory for the gameboy color, I own it and it makes the experience a lot better.
That clear purple is my favorite color of any console, ever. lol.
wait, did he just call it PINK!?!
I think the correct term is Indigo, or clear Indigo.
Its purple.
iLLexian Indigo and purple are two different colors. ROY G. BIV. the I is indigo and the V is purple. er... "violet". But yes, for a while Nintendo had a bad habit of calling its purple devices indigo, so they're wrong, not you. But think that started after the GBC.
tbb033 yeah I know the difference. I think some of the confusion came from the clear Indigo GBA. It was more of a blue shade, but looked pretty close. I was comparing by typing "clear indigo gameboy color"in google and this is the first one that comes up, next to the clear indigo GBA. Even side by side, they're pretty similar.
But yeah, I just called it clear purple. lol
This suffers from difficult to see the fucking screen syndrome
Ashens reference
It's not that bad. It's miles better than the GBA!
Pawel Halagiera I saw a super Gameboy cartridge at Flea market
I boxed up my GameBoy Color, identical to this one and even with the SMBD cart inserted, back when I graduated high school and moved on to the military. For my 30th birthday my mom brought to my house that box of my old crap. I found the GameBoy Color and turned it right on...the SMB Deluxe cart even still held my game saves...all on 12+ year old batteries. Portable gaming at its finest...try that with a modern PSP or phone.
...and I also unfortunately had a GameCom. The 90s were a crazy time.
I still remember when I can change colors for Game Boy games by pressing a D-Pad during the boot sequence.
Nostalgia Gasm, ohh yeahhhh, I miss my original color model.
Wow Dereks such a good actor amazing hello Hollywood 5 stars number one
3:54
Medarots/Medabots aren't giant, they're only supposed to be about 4' tall.
Incidentally, I think that series is due for a comeback. Skylanders Swapforce and those Hasbro toys with the mix and match parts are popular right now, I think today's kids might like Medabots. Natsume actually never discontinued the series, they just stopped bringing it here.
All they'd need to do is translate the latest game and maybe bring over some of the more recent figures with customizing options.
That's the best feature from the gameboy color, it's ability to colorize old gb games and you can even determine wich colorpallet you want to add to those games, with the brainboy adaptor, you can even costumize your own colorpallet for your old gb games, and despites the design and the name of the gameboycolor looks kinder garden,it makes the old grandmother gameboy look very very old.
2:45 it's a misnomer the GameBoy Pocket has a larger screen than either the original or GameBoy Color. The screen was the same size -- the reason it appears to be larger is because the GameBoy Color is more compact, like how slightly out of shape guys appear fitter wearing a tight shirt.
Great, now mark is gonna start running around killing people with that blasted game com.
Mike the Nintendo Master welp lock the doors and get the broom guns were going last stand here
Very first game boy I've owned and still have and SMB DX is my first game for it.
he's kinda right about pink hand helds are cheaper although i know it's atomic purple this model is the cheapest gameboycolor i could find on amazon for only $22.00
its not that cheap but at leat games are
I still have my gameboy color and use it everyday. the other day I let this 11 year old Pokemon go fan play for a bit and he asked if it had any Pokemon games on it XD that's where it all began kid!
The Gameboy Colour was my first Gameboy console, mine was the clear purple one.
I think the very first game I got for it was Defender/Joust cartridge that I got cheap :)
At 2:44 liebestraum no.3 by Franz Litszt begins playing, nice =)
I got mine for free via credit trade off at a game store. It's the teal model. Also picked up Super Mario Bros. Deluxe with it too.
I remember Donkey Kong. I used to play that on the Game Boy Color.
The ending was pretty funny. Lol
There were total of three different types of games that worked on the GBC. Original GB titles that got enchaned with 4-10 colors in the GBC. "Dual mode games", whichs worked in b&w mode in the original GameBoy and in 56 colors in the Color version. Then there's GameBoy COLOR-exclusive titles that all have the full colors of 56 and which do not work on the regular Game Boy. The color palette on the GBC was 36k.
Marc, you guys need to make a short movie or video about the horrors of the gamecon lol.
amazing! i have this game boy color with pokemon red!
Sometimes a lamp wasn't even good enough to light the screen sufficiently. Before back lights, hand-held consoles actually encouraged us to go outside for some sun!
Tetris though. You can change the color by holding the D-pad in a direction when the "GAME BOY" logo appears.
I had one of these, along with Donkey Kong Country. I'm getting nostalgic! Damn it, Mark, you filling me with regret here!
Yeah I remember having the game as a kid, the feels man
*The GB Boy Color is worth getting people!!* ⭐️
Man i had this same color GBc
Next time I'm buying something off of ebay
I'll be ordering one =D
Dat ending doe...
Still have mine 👊
I went a step further and play my GB games on a GBA backlit clam-shell. Also got a retron 5 to play them on now.
Oh, puh-lease. The GBA SP is the superior model. By the way, there is a Japanese exclusive Game Boy called the Game Boy Light which is very rare.
That game boy color is the same one I had. It was my first gaming system
I had a lime green GameBoy Color back in the day but I was so pissed when I found out it didn't play Sega 32x games. I always wished I had gotten a blue one or a purple one or a red one.
That ending kills me
Alex Hollst agreed
I purchased and refurbed one of these. They are cool, but it's for my collection.
I bought a "GB Boy Colour" for everyday that is just great. Back-lit screen, a bunch of built-in games, and that same classic GB/GBC form factor, albeit with slight proportional differences.
funny as ever. i knew you were going to give him a game con. seriously someone has to do a funny horror movie where the game con is the main threat.
how bout a parody of that classic scene in psycho. instead of wielding a knife the guy is wielding a game com. much scarier.
+Joshua Fraim that should be a new CGR movie
My older brother had one just like that. I had a yellow one and my other brother had a purple one. Pokemon was the best game for it
I once had a red one with turok 2 as my first gbc game.
I also have the Atomic Purple GBC. And the Godzilla game, which is a neat little puzzle action title.
This was my first gameboy that I got with Pokémon red and blue
"...except it's pink" *holds up atomic purple gameboy color*
That's the same model of GameBoy Colour I had as a kid!
Everyone quit hating on Mark because he said pink instead of purple. You never know what situation he was in! He could be colorblind, he could've been in an accident that messed his eyes up, but what it think is the light in the room threw him off
I found this same version at a garage sale this summer. it came with a few games including pokemon yellow.
Does purple look like pink in space?
It's just that Mark drank too much Beer and played too much Truxton, I know because when you play Truxton for 5-6 hours straight (on space) you confuse the colors, I don't know why tho
I had a purple see thru back then, traded it in within a day because the glare of the system body made it very had to play games. Got a solid green one instead and still have it.
"BECAUSE THE'RE IN JAPANESE!" I laugh every time you do that to your voice.
Just in case, you can modify colors for the Game Boy games by combining directional pad and A B buttons on the start up screen.
I remember my best friend and I were going to get GBA at the same time but somehow his parents got him GBC lol and I use to make fun of him that he got that GBC for kids. Looking back now it did have some cool games. Also I love it when Mark hits Darak. :D
Gameboy Color + Pokemon Blue = My Childhood
lol great ending
I love the Gamecom gifting joke :P Never gets old
