Restoration of RUINED Cossack Shashka - My Worst Idea to RESTORE This

- Hello folks! Today I will show you a great restoration of the cossack shashka of the sample of 1881. The condition is terrible! When I first saw this sword , I asked, what is there to restore? But as practice shows, the world is waiting for new achievements from me and I am starting this unreal restoration!
The first step is to weld rotten metal. But how?! There the thickness at the edges was less than 0.5 mm… It took a huge amount of time. I started to brew the hole, then sanded it, then again, and so on indefinitely.
After welding, I moved on to cleaning the blade. But very carefully, because it is thin and I could create new problems for myself-tasks.
I cleaned the dirtiest places with sand at low pressure. Further, to hide the irregularities after welding, I filled everything with tin-lead alloy and sanded the surface with sandpaper.
It looks much better! The handle of the saber! This type of shashka sword has a kind of handle where many factors need to be taken into account. I made it out of wood, as it was in the original.
After cutting out the handle, I boiled it in oil, dried it and covered it with a special protective varnish for wood. Now this handle will definitely live for more than 100 years.
I made the scabbard for the saber out of wood and pasted it with thin genuine leather. I received the original fittings (details) from my friend for scabbard.
They were found and brought to me directly from the ground, where the parts had been lying for more than 100 years. I cleaned all the parts for the scabbard with sandblasting. All the irregularities and holes were soldered, but not all in some places the metal was extremely thin and failed. Iron parts were coated with iron oxide, (so that they no longer rust) dried with a hairdryer and applied graphite grease.
I leveled the brass parts with wood and a mallet, drilled the old rusty and oxidized screws, substituted new ones.
I successfully installed all the details on the scabbard, added a bayonet from the Mosin system of the old model and now I have a complete set of the Cossack shashka of 1881 year together with the bayonet. The item was transferred to the museum.

Хвостовик, который вы выровняли - на самом деле должен быть изогнут. В целом рукоять на этой шашке и должна иметь некоторый изгиб..))
Значит фурнитура из более поздней версии. Я это сразу подметил ибо там в начале "гард" должена быть другая ширина.
На оригинальной шашке хвостовик не выпрямишь, если только клинок не отпушен был. На новодельных их легко гнуть.
@@ВалерийРоманцов-о6л не согласен. У меня есть три оригинальных козачьих шашки 1889г, 1902г и 1927г. Шашки не закалены до такого состояния, чтобы нельзя было что-то выправить. Твёрдость оригинальных шашек была в пределах 54-57 HRC - но измерялась в других еденицах.
@@ВеселийКовач , привет. Разбирал 2 оригинальные обр.1881 гг казачьи шашки (годы выпуска 1904 и 1907), а также обр.1927 (1944 ). Пытался проверить и изменить угол наклона хвостовика- бесполезно их профиль ( это как балка с измененным сечением )не возволял это слелать. Хотя один из клинков был в плоскости согнут. Твердость 43-47 ед, для сравнения твердость напильник 62-67 ед.. Если бы можно было хвост гнуть, то при ударах шашкой она бы повреждалась, что происходит с новодельными суверирными шашками. На одном из клинков, вроде кск обр.1881 поднятых из копа, после очистки решил поставить клейма года на пяте и хвосте , но клеймер практически следа не оставил. Хотя проищводители были в РИА и РККА разные, может и материалы и качество такое. Успехов и с наступающим новым 2024 годом.
На обр.1881 изгиб хвостовика шашки незначительный, а вот на обр.1927 гораздо больше

Ну что же, я смотрю мастер придерживается правильной теории ,,присутствие синей изоленты придаёт инструментам прочности,, но на сверлильных тисочках не было изоленты, вот они и подвели в самый ответственный момент!

Amazing museum piece you saved!
I'm a Blacksmith, and specialices in Blades.
When ever you work whit powertools on a Blade that have been hardened and tempered. Any amount of heat produced by the powertools can destroy that. If the blade turns blue at any point, you'll need to normalice it, Harden it and temper it agein. Otherwise it will never hold an edge and it's likely to bend just by swinging it. You can controll this by not wearing glowes, and constantly pouring cold water on it. If it's too hot for you to tuch the area by your own fingertips, then you are at a serious risk of destroying the heatreatment.

Спасибо)) ну этот метод стал актуален еще в 1880 году, потом еще так же добавляли к драгунской шашки если не путаю так же образца 1881 года

Жаль я не встретил Ваши видео ранее, когда мне попадались копаные ножи в состоянии примерно равном этой шашке. Но я вижу, что даже сквозная коррозия-устранима.
