@@faetrick509 I actually made the "air quote" on the word irresistible.
Our DM went to check the text of the spell.
I love playing bards.
I like the unintentional implication that more movement could mean they'd dance faster in order to do that during their turn. So a Tabaxi putting their stats into nothing but mobility would give off some amazing moves in those 6 seconds.
I really want to see this now.

That spell combo is cursed beyond all realms of reason. But at the same time it's fantastic.
I'm writing that combo down for any future character of mine lmao

@@magiv4205 irresistible dance doesn't work on creatures immune to charm, IIRC.
The combo is Hentai. Cursed beyond reason, and strangely fantastic at the same time. Also tentacles.
A bards best friend, however totally worth mentioning that creatures with the charmed immunity can totally ignore this, but a favorite nonetheless. Top tier spell.
I used [Somebody's] Irresistable Dance as inspiration to kick off a boss fight. This boss was an ascended minion of an Eldrich Horror, who thanks to the magic of dice rolls, somehow managed to miraculously and easily evade monk blows and run away to return later. The players named him "Magic Mike, the Necrodancer"
So, when I brought him back, I had him hide until the party solved a dungeon riddle and unlocked the path forward. (They knew he was there, because he occasionally taunted them from the shadows but couldn't find him.)
Suddenly everything went dark, he congratulated and thanked them for opening the way forward, before introducing his final performance. He took out a pair of dark crystals, crushed them in his hands, and channeled the energy into two gigantic statues on each side of him. As they started to move, the floor lit up with bright flashing colors, and an irresistable beat compelled all who heard it to dance along. (To the song from Undertale: Death by Glamour).
It was so much fun. I flavored all of the bosses' abilities as dance, from a Bonus Action Moonwalk disengage, to the Giant Statues Breakdancing for massive damage all around them. And also Crit successes allowed characters to steal the spotlight from the boss, which boosted their abilities, but made them easier to hit (and the boss generally focused on taking them down.)
One of the ways I nerfed the effect a little was, at the *start* of a creatures turn, I allowed them to make a Performance or Acrobatics check, and if they succeeded, they could move and take actions like normal that turn while dancing. But to actually fully break free of the effect and stop making saves, they had to WIS save at the end of their turn.
Oh that is cool. As a bard player that is amazing. Bravo man, Bravo!
This is an incredible idea!!
For a true necrodancer experience, change it so that even after succeeding the skill checks to have their turn and move around, they can only do so in four directions (up down left right). And add terrains and corridors that will impede their movement while specifically moving in four directions 😂😂
*the bard rolls a critical failure*
"Anyway, here's Wonderwall."
This is glorious
Amazing, As soon as the OGL came out I renamed all spells in my game to avoid WoTC owned wizards as well. I went with the style to name them after authors and those that contributed most to gaming... Making Gary's Irrestable Dance, Mercers Magnificent Mansion, Margarets Platinum Shield, Salvatores Sword, Tracies Transformation.... and Dare I say Lovecrafts Black Tentacles

Honestly, a spell that will cost an opponent their turn, *no matter what their resistance is,* is extremely powerful.
Used to be even more powerful back in 3.5, but pretty much all spells got neutered. People only think spellcasters are overpowered now days because they insist on having only one big fight between long rests instead of properly challenging the party with a decent number of encounters.
Unfortunately, "no matter what their resistance is" only applies to their save bonus. Remember that any creature with charm immunity is unaffected, and more importantly, any creature that never intended to get in melee may as well be immune.
At leadt one turn, and potentially indefinitely, is incredibly powerful. Also makes them vulnerable to attacks until and after that turn if they fail. Unreal.
@@clockup5878 If there were enough encounters for a spellcaster to burn through their spell slots, then the martials are also definitely dead or nearly dead as well. The most Important resource is health, and if martials are frontlining, then they’re losing health much faster. Not to mention martials like monks and battlemaster that have resources burnt as well. For martials to truly last longer than casters, they would have to constantly be healed, but if the healers were playing effectively, they would’ve used those slots for killing enemies.
The only time martials have the advantage after multiple encounters are at very low levels when casters only have a handful of spell slots, but if your dm starts at level 3 then you’re almost past that point already.
Except Martials regain their stuff on a short rest, as well as having higher hit dice to top up their health with. Ki points, action surges, superiority dice, etc. all regen on a short rest.
A ‘normal’ adventuring day typically allows for multiple encounters interspersed with short rests. Under that model, spellcasters are forced to ration their spell slots while martials are able to be a lot less mean with their own abilities.
Sure, high-level spellcasters are still frequently more capable of devastating power than high-level martials. But a part of the difference is how many people end up not really using short rests much.
On another note, turns out Warlocks, even hexblades, are actually kinda trash if your DM basically never gives you the time to short rest. Ask me how I know.
As a DM I used this spell as a trap. A party member stepped on a pressure plate, the plate caused the ceiling to slowly descend. The rune cast this spell.
The players last moments were frantically dancing as they were slowly crushed to death by the falling ceiling

I love how the tentacles are dancing too. Truly irresistable.
This is a really fun spell. Yes the OGL sucks, nice video as always
Edit: I love the combo, this is why these are two of my most favorite spells!
Like how he addressed the OGL in as efficient, as comical a way as possible.
It's nice to know he's not letting it ruin his outlook and he's still having fun with his chanel.
It really brought it up a notch. But, Technically the original ogl wouldn't actually allow the full attribution either. Srd only allows for the versions without the names. It's why you sometimes see two versions on dnd beyond.
@@Stonegolem6 Ah, is that why so many spells lost the name of the caster that invented them? I always wondered what happened to the reputations of folks like Tenser, Aganazer, and friends.
@@Archgeek0 Those folks exist as heroes and legends in Forgotten Realms, which isn't an OGL setting.

I am now going to play obnoxious electro swing music the next time one of my players casts [REDACTED] Irresistible Dance.
When I was new to fantasy roleplaying but familiar with fantasy and folklore, I made a magic item that was basically this, but inverted: The Pants of Dance.
While worn, the wearer cannot stop dancing. At all, for any reason. Cannot be restrained or grappled in any way, and has advantages on reflex-based saving throws due to the dancing magical pants aiding in movement. Overall mobility is not hindered, but does become more stylish.
However, as you _cannot_ stop dancing while wearing the pants, it comes at a cost: Fatigue. The pants impart no special stamina, so while worn you _will_ become exhausted more quickly than if you were moving around and fighting normally. You can, in fact, dance yourself to death of exertion by wearing the pants for too long. So, when not needed, you must dance your way out of the pants to conserve your energy and _that_ is a challenge in itself.
Okay I absolutely love this one
oh god. and because you cant be grappled, you cant get any help in removing them
@@thesatelliteslickers907just start doing the horizontal mambo and it will take care of itself!
@@lordfelidae4505or start dancing like a stripper
Make taking off the pants the POINT of the dance
Solution: turn it into a dress of irresistible dance and make it worn via belt or modified zip. just undo the belt while moving your legs and you’re free!
If your legs have to be surrounded from all angles by it, just make the pants REALLY oversized. Either by shrinking yourself or by modifying the pants.
Or make it into two sleeves, maybe for your arms, maybe for your legs, just loosen the straps and you’re free!
Assuming OGL goes as we fear, I'm gonna keep pushing people to Cypher System and Monte Cook games. Monte was a huge contributor/leader for in 3e and 3.5, and was tapped to lead 5e before he left the company.
As for the amazing video, I also love irresistible dance for the role play fun of it. Joked about it being the in universe source of every over the top dancer at weddings, and a player straight up used it for that purpose. Good times.
Edit: came back to add, the video is over and I realized I am still dancing to that catchy tune. This spell really is a Good Spell!
I really liked Monte's take on "spellweaving" over more tradional Vancian stuff.
What is that tune? I think Drachinifel uses it as an opening.
@gmradio2436 video description says it's called 'The Speakeasy'
Irresistible Dance at weddings? Sure, just give it the Ritual tag and add special Material Components for weddings (crowd of friendly attendees, alcohol)
I dunno man I've seen one of their NDA's it was a but overly dramatic, especially for something that amounts to a setting hack
No matter the universe, Electro Swing is irresistable.
Now I'm just imagining a scenario where you cast this on a spellcaster and they use dance moves to add some flair to their casting.
I imagine if you cast this on a bard, they're basically unaffected, because they were planning to dance anyway.
That's just Merlin from William Papadin lmao
One might argue that singing is dancing of the vocal cords, in which case spellcasters might still be able to use verbal and somatic components through singing and dancing with maybe a will and sleight of hand check or something
@@jek__ Yeah, but the spell itself doesn't prevent spellcasting. It just screws up attacks.
As such, you can totally breakdance out a Fireball.
@@LucanVaris Ah well fair then, I guess everyone is assumed to have the skill required to carry out spell components while dancing. Though material components seem harder to get at while youre moving around lol

This is without a doubt the funniest Animated Spellbook ever.
I... I love the idea of a spontaneous flash dance mob if the DM allows it.
Unfortuantely, single target spell.
@@youtubeuniversity3638 got to be some kind of metamagic feat you can pull off.
In my experience many DMs will allow spellcrafting if you have a decent spellcasting level, put time and gold into it, and dont make it too powerful. It depends on the lore of magic in the game, but as long as you don't give yourself a serious mechanical advantage, slightly tweaking existing spells doesnt seem necessarily off the table. You might be able to remove the compulsion aspect and make it something the target is inspired to do but not compelled, in exchange for making it multi-target. Allowing a person to dance along with the choreography you magically impose into them, but they can stop dancing at any time. Could be used for some interesting storytelling but very little abuse, so some DMs might go for it
Add some golems and it's a flesh dance 🙃
Hypnotic pattern works pretty well for this. Also check out its spell component
I like how he's restrained by the tentacles and still tapping his foot
Oh, a terrific oxymoron: innocent McGenks. Kind of like respectful wigglers.
Brilliant idea to not say the full name of the spell. Wizards of the Coast and by extension Hasbro is going to find this was one of the biggest mistakes in all their history
What does not saying the full spell name do? From my perspective this just makes the spell harder for players to find in the PHB
Oh, absolutely. I hope they actually listen to the fans and creators who have been giving them essentially free advertising for years going "we don't need you, so if you're going to act that way, we're out". Aside from the copyrighted names, they can't really enforce it. And they have so many things that aren't copyrightable. Goblins and kobolds? From European folk lore. Dragons? From all over the place! Mimics? Essentially something that exists in nature.
@@griffinbaker3509 both spells have a copywritten characters name in them. The rest of the spells name is open use. If you want to find the spells full name. Just look up irrisistable dance and black tenticle and they'll come up

Ah yes. Gotta love the classic combo of Octavio's Unstoppable Boogie + Enrique's Ebon Extenders.
Still wouldn't mind you revisiting the ol' Eldritch Blast vid, by the by.
Personally like the idea of having the guy combo Lance of Lethargy and Repelling Blast w/ a Fathomless Warlock's tentacle.
Hell, the whole vid seems like the backstory of a Fathomless Warlock to begin with.
I love this spell, it is just so hilarious. Though I have to say I feel like almost no one talks about Entangle which is just so good. It causes the Restrained condition which does the no movement, advantage, and disadvantage of the Irresistible Dance. Sure, the enemy does get an immediate save unlike the Irresistable Dance. But if the enemy fails they can spend their action to make a Strength check, not a Strength save, against your spell save DC. Also it is an AoE, it creates difficult terrain in the AoE, and it's a first level spell! The fact that Strength saves are the least common save among monsters is just icing on the cake. I guess the fact that Entangle is limited to Druids (and Rangers if you allow the expanded spell list) is why it isn't discussed as much.
Eh, as someone who has played a druid for over a year on a weekly basis, Entangle is a fine and sometimes quite useful spell. The fact that you get it at such a low level is its big selling point for area control. However, even if they don't have strength save proficiency, lots of monsters are big and beefy with STR scores over 20 (so +5 or better modifiers) and if they roll even half decently, will often beat your spell save DC (at least at lower levels).
The thing that makes Irresistible Dance so good is the complete lack of any save for the initial casting, which guarantees the effect on the target at least until their next turn. That is *invaluable* against anything that has legendary resistance, which would just ignore Entangle.
It's nice to see the boys getting along for a change.
the first bit dancing through the door gave me as much unexpected enjoyment as the cultist procession did great episode zee
I have to say, aside from the killer spell combo the best part for me in this was the absolute banger choice for music.
I love the little tappy tap his foot does when the tentacles restrain him.
With a tune that catchy, I wouldn't even be mad. Just let me dance, bro.
Bard of Creation’s animated object has an ability called “Irrepressible Dance.” Basically, all your friends that start their turn within 10 feet of it (apparently including itself!) get an extra 10 feet of walking speed for that turn. Any enemies that start within 10 feet have their movement *decreased* by 10 feet. It’s not the craziest thing in the world, given the small radius, but it’s hilarious roleplay-wise. All your friends are cha-cha sliding to move just a little further, while the enemies have to stop earlier to breakdance or whatever.
Incidentally, this strategy let me completely shut down some Gibbering Mouthers, who only have 10 feet of movement to begin with.
Now I'm wondering how that interacts with this spell. You "have to dance" but I'd argue you have the option of spending that "'must dance' movement" on this other dance which *gives* movement.
Very niche counter, but it could be a neat option. If you have to dance, dance productively.
@@Snickersnek RAW I assume you’d still have to waste the additional movement dancing in place, based on the description of the spell.

I think you can always break the dancing before breaking out of the tentacles, but it's still just increasing the power of the tentacles even at that and targeting two separate saves at the same time while essentially always working since you would be forced to make 2 dex saves at disadvantage before you could even think about making saves against the dancing.

I had no idea such an inoccuous-looking spell could be so devastating.
There be a wizard in thees lands that thinks hes a bard.
The sound of music follows in his wake.
Should you fear him we can not tell.
For the urge to dance.
Take me as well!
Just dance your way to the enemy when under the spell. There are some dancing methods that include weapons, resulting in making attacks. This should be a skill to overcome the spell while being able to make attacks, just not direct attacks, but attacks in motion with the dancing.
One homebrew rule you could add is instead of the Wisdom save to dispel the effect, you could instead roll a Perform check to conga at your foe. To still give the spell some effect you could rule movement while dancing counts a difficult terrain. The Perform check also would probably take your action similar to attempting to make the Wisdom Save, the check acting like a situational replacement for the Dash Action. You can also only choose to either Wisdom save OR Perform check, not both on the same turn.
This is the perfect time to rick roll a enemy, "I'm never gonna give you up"
I've just realized that Zee only has four fingers, but not only that, when he points with a finger it grows long and thin. I am deeply unsettled by this, but also fascinated
Well it is ~~someone’s~~ **irresistible** dance, so it makes sense it activates without a save
As a DM who made a bard the villain, having them endlessly dance as the ball was slaughtered around them was quite the climactic moment

i love it. spells in DnD are awesome and so few people use them creatively. you're one of them
The most horrific trap I ever read in a module utilized this spell. Imagine a room with a glass floor, a pit of acid far below. In the middle of the room is a key needed to progress, under the key is a glyph that casts Irresistible dance. You are helpless to do anything as your unstoppable moves begins to crack the glass beneath your feet threatening to plunge you to your corrosive doom.

One hilarious scene in a Neverwinter campaign had us use THE DANCE combined with Insect Plague...imagine trying to swat hornets DDR style.
This is such a potentially cruel spell that I love it! I will keep this in mind for my own campaign. 💕
As that guy, RAW, tentacles is a STR or DEX **CHECK** to break free after the initial saving by throw. So a dancing character wouldn’t have disadvantage on that roll.
(Edit) Which as an afterthought doesn’t take away from too much, the combo can still decimate. It’s just a matter of clarification.
Checks during combat still use an Action though don't they? If so then it's not really any different, because even if a character is proficient in dex saves they can't add that bonus to the check.
Favorite animated spellbook so far, thanks Zee.

Hilariously, in Acquisitions Inc. there are certain spells which are named after their creator that are trademarked and force the caster to pay royalties when they use them.
The fact that the McGenks now censored the names of WotC IP creators of spells like Evard's black tentacles to avoid trademark issues is just amazing and shows that the new OGL hurts everyone, even diabolical necromancers.
