Hi Lisa, nothing you do needs to change. You're right that comparison is the thief of joy. I would also say that some people find joy in the product, when I watch you I see the joy in the journey. I see your love of the craft and the art and when you celebrate a finished object it's so much more special because I know the joy of the journey really spurred you on.
Our society puts almost too much value on the product that sometimes we gloss over the process of Making, the thoughtfulness and intention we have with our crafting. The work that goes into it just to make an item. We need more people like you who talk about the process, who show the steps, and share the knowledge. It's one thing to have a pile of products to be inspired by, but I truly enjoy to come here and experience the joy of making. You and your channel are an inspiration because you are never rushing after a finished product, you do what brings you joy in the moment and you share that. That's the magic here.

Hi Lisa, I love your podcast. As for comparisons, that’s a great quote and message. Don’t forget, too, most knitters are not knitting their own handspun! That’s a whole second hobby! and even among hand spinners, working with raw wool is another layer! Furthermore, to add to what you already say about comparisons, some people have more time on their hands than others, and some of the most productive knitters are stress knitters using it to cope, so all that productivity may have a story of a stressful life involved. we cannot judge ourselves up against other people, because no one person goes through what another goes through. thank you for sharing exactly what you bring! I’m only 5 minutes in, heres to the rest of the podcast!

Yours is one of my favorite wool/spinning/fiber arts channels, and I love to put it on while I'm settling in with my wheel, or sorting locks in a fleece. I've even gone back and watched previous videos over again, just to have the inspiration of the wonderful colors and fibers you show, and the feeling of comraderie!
Regarding the discrepancy in the number of stitches you picked up from your provisional cast on, I think I can explain! When you cast on 65 stitches, then later undo the provisional cast on and pick up those stitches, you're actually picking up the bars *between* those original cast on stitches (since you're now knitting in the opposite direction, so you're half a stitch offset). So you end up with an off-by-one error: since you had 65 stitches, there are only 64 bars between them for you to pick up now. So you didn't make any mistakes in the process!
(As a fellow math teacher, I always have a little moment of mixed annoyance and delight when I encounter a fence-versus-post problem like this in real life.)

I love your little sidenote about raglan being named after a person. It actually was. it was invented around the time of the battle of waterloo for Lord Raglan, who lost his arm in battle. it was apparently to make it easier for him to dress himself due to the better ease of movement in raglan sleeves over other contemporary to the time sleeves.

Another Lovely video and I appreciate you explaining the time it takes for artists to create the rolags (and other things). It’s kinda sad to hear someone saying “why does it cost so much??” As if the maker’s time is not worth much. I often have relatives telling me I should sell my work but I know that many folks expect prices to reflect sweatshop labor and cheap materials and so I don’t even entertain the idea. I gift my items only.

I was thinking about your point „how much, many knitting projects in 2023” as I found these episodes… well, while it’s good to have an orientation for tracking knitting projects, it doesn’t really matter. It’s not a competition. Unless a person is knitting for a living, the amount of knitting is personal. No one should be overwhelmed by other people knitting but should be inspired.

HI Lisa. Thanks for the time you spent with us/me. I love to work alongside you. I feel your opening comments about being not equal to others. Just let me say that, just because someone appears to be accomplished in one thing doesn’t mean they are better at all things. It’s about enjoying what you are doing, learning or making. It’s about accomplishing something that makes you happy. You had a career that was amazing and now you are reaching out to others and sharing your skills. You have helped me so much and I appreciate everything you share. I don’t do all the things you do, beautifully I might add, but I do what pleases me. I am limited by income and time and sometimes I find it hard to keep up because of what I am able to spend on my hobbies. We all struggle to find our place in the crafting world. I learned to drop spin because of your ability to show and preview tools to purchase. I don’t intend to go too much farther down this rabbit hole but watching you encourages me to continue to learn and practice my spinning. I am actually adding some of my hand spun into a sweater soon. (Fingering 😳). I don’t have the time or inclination to spin enough for the whole sweater, but keep doing what you are doing, you fill a hole in my days and I love to see what you are doing. Maybe a miracle will happen one day and we will meet😊in person but for now just know you are appreciated. 🧶🇨🇦

Hi Lisa, I found you on UA-cam a few years ago and have enjoyed watching your videos and the multitude of content. I have learned so much from you. People who do not spin or work in any of the fiber arts must think we are crazy to enjoy watching someone spin. I spin and wind my wool while I watch and listen and learn. I love that you research and share your findings. Thank you so much. and to answer your Q about adding the new and different shades of color to your scarf, I say yes, go for it. Love your show Lisa. I love your socks, I also am a fan of Stone Knits, having knit some of her patterns (the mushroom ones are cute too). I applaud you for doing all that work in the black yarn - it's tough to knit with black. The Welsh fibre sounds lovely. Thanks also for the blending board segment. I love my blending board too. You're right about the quote from Theodore Roosevelt about comparison. I think that's true in every aspect of comparison - do I complete enough projects, did I pick the right colours, is my hair too curly, or am I too fat or thin? I think this is why reason why I don't take part in makealongs. I don't like the pressure of having to complete something in a given period. I think I'm as much of a process maker as a project maker and I enjoy the doing as well as the finished product. Anyway, thanks for a relaxing, interesting, and thought-provoking show. Don't change a thing - you are one of the first podcasts I pick to watch when I see that there is a new one among my subscriptions. Love it. Keep doing what you do.

So good to hear from you, Ivana. I’ve been thinking a lot about color with all the seasonal analysis talk these days. I feel some colors evoke strong feelings and joy. I hope you are well and hope to see you soon in your channel. 😘

Hello again, I think you should go ahead and add the other Noro color now. Like you said if you don't like it you can rip back. I think it will look great. Rolags so beautiful!!! I also just learned about color dominance after I had to rip out 55 rows of completed colorwork because I didn't swatch (lesson learned). Makes a big difference!

Good to see you again! For the Traveler's shawl I think using the pink yarn only in the 2nd triangle would look lovely. That way you could style the shawl in different ways to emphasis the greens or the pinks ... two shawls in one : )

After watching you spin, I'm going to try the supported spindle.
I also have the blending board and now I've learned from your video that I can pull (pre-draft like) the fabric as I remove it from the board. Lovely work.

I really enjoy your videos. They are so informative and I like the mix of wooly goodness. I would wait until you have one side of the Traveller shawl finished before changing colour so you can see a contrast. The Niro wool is beautiful colours. 🧶😊❤️

At Waterloo a man, Fitzroy Somerset, was wounded and lost his right arm. He kept soldiering for England, became a full General and made a lord, the first Baron Raglan of Raglan. Not having his right arm together with his tailor he devised an alternative technique to sew sleeves in his shirt and jackets. Having this slanted sleeve straight from the collar made movement easier and he could dress himself with more ease and also it was easier to swing his sword. So that's where the Raglan sleeve comes from.

Hi Lisa, don't be concerned about having 1 less stitch from your provisional cast on when you work in the opposite direction. This always happens, a result of working in the other direction. One end of your work will have a bump, I pick this up as another stitch.

I have to agree with everyone else, do not compare yourself with anyone else. You're unique and wonderful. While the quote is not from the Bible, the wisdom behind it is. In Galatians 6:4 it says "But let each one examine his own actions, and then he will have cause for rejoicing in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person." Just keep striving to improve, because that's what you love, and don't worry about anything else. ❤

Thank you for sharing that quote! It’s really the only way to live but it is so hard to do sometimes. We are all works in progress succeeding at times and sometimes stumbling. Take good care. 🥰

Lovely projects, Lisa! Your color choices are so pretty, and your blending board punis look like a joy to spin with! Just finishing up my first Felix sweater, I’m always late to the game with what is “trending”, this sweater pattern has been popular for so long, I started it 2 years ago! Feels good to get it out again and finish it up. Enjoy your spinning and knitting!

It's always such a treat to get to sit with you and see your works and all❤. For the shawl I think striping it in would be cool. The plum on the end seems like a good lead in to the bolder colors❤. Tha k you for being you❤❤❤

Hi Lisa thankyou for keeping me company this morning. I’m knitting socks from handspun Romney atm. I made a 6 m skein and dyed half denim blue leaving half out of the pot and have self stripping yarn. Some of my spinning friends make 3 ply sock yarn with 1ply mohair and say they wear really well
I look forward to see your mohair blend.
You’ve inspired me to get out my blending board it’s good for fine fibres because my drumcarder can makes neps on my batts.xx

You can store your handspun yarn by inserting the tip of the spindle into a drinking straw and push the yarn over
