Now that the quest 3s is out, im actually gonna pick one up today once I get my paycheck. Im pretty excited to use mixed reality and I personally think the "spider eye" cameras look really cool
I had the chance to grab a quest 3 cheaper (my sister flew abroad). Still very expensive, but no regrets. I upgraded from Quest 2 to quest 3. Many warned me it was not necessary, but after some time I feel it was the right decision. This video is great! I feel even more secure about my purchase.

Surprised that there is actually a difference between the Q2 and Q3S, the Quest 3 kind of looks like the Quest 2 with glasses. Happy with this lineup though--the Quest 3 is definitely still worth it, but the Quest 3S is worth it on its own merits as well if someone can't afford the extra couple hundred dollars.
I tried the 3s for a couple of hours the biggest issue I had is it never seemed to be in focus, even the clearest spot was hard to keep the headset in that perfect spot as it moves around. if you can grab the 3 or try out both if you can. This is a fantastic video for people who can't try them out but deciding between them.

Quest 3, with GGO, black level enhancement, and contrast turned up a little, is really amazing to see. It's honestly the best entertainment purchase I have ever made, and I have a psvr2. Couldn't recomend it enough.
@@cuffia5189 be sure to inspect the lenses, theyre somewhat easy to mess up, never wear it with glases without a spacer (the 2 pieces touching can easily scratch the lens) and never leave it in sunlight
Enjoyed the comparison, but would have been nice to see a couple of games where it had quest 3 upgrades through the 3s vs 2, thereby setting not only lens comparison but also graphic capabilities.
It's amazing what a difference a higher panel resolution and clearer optical stack can make. It almost looks like 3 different generations. Honestly this is what I was expecting the evolution of vr to look like back in quest 1 days.
I have the quest 3S, I bought it to replace my broken Q2. Because my Q2 stopped working, I dont have a direct side by side comparision like you do. But my impressions are: The image quality is slighty better but not in a very noticable way. The audio in Q2 was better than in 3S because 3S has just too much bass boost that makes me feel uncomfortable. But I guess that is solvable with software updates. Genereal comfort is also much higher even with the standard strapes. All in all: If you new to VR or want to replace a broken Q2, this could be a good choice. But if you have a working Q2, either update to the full Q3 or keep on playing with Q2. If you have lucky it survives long enough that you can jump directly to Q4 in one or two years.
I think the Quest 3 really proved its worth with that mixed reality comparison. 3S already looked marginally better than the 2 even disregarding colour, but the 3 looked like there wasn't a screen at all in comparison.
$299 or $499 the middle child just doesn’t make sense for an extra $100 you get pancake lenses and twice the storage with better LCD panels. Should have been $299-$349-$499. I’m also glad you explained rendering because a lot of people are under the impression that if the LCD panel say it’s 4K that means you’re watching it in 4K, which is not the case. I used the same comparison when trying to explain this to someone … it didn’t work 😂
Which one do you think is better when it comes to the graphics/resolution between the 3 and the 3S? I’m wanting to get the meta quest 3 but I’m thinking it is better to get the 3S. Is there any big differences besides the “better graphics”?

Im going with the Q3S as a SECONDARY Headset. PSVR2 is my Main but id like to have accsess to Meta Games, MR etc. If i like the Quest-Life, ill get the Q4 in a few Years. Id say the low Price but still good Quality of the 3S is the perfect fit for me. Thx for the Video!
In a few years i think we'll see guys like Asus for example make standalone headsets running Horizon OS! Because meta will make available that way, imagine, the android of standalone VR.. what a opportunity

The pancake lenses from the quest 3 would probably diminish the PSVR2 experience since its so much nore clear. I tried a PSvr2 and it was just too blurry to enjoy for me

Quest 2 = "1832 x 1920p" and "Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1" / more blur Quest 3s = "1832 x 1920p" and "Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2" / fewer blur Quest 3 = "2064 x 2208p" and "Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2" / no blur

The Quest 3S is a great successor to the Quest 2. A great entry to jump in, but after using the Quest 3 pancake lenses, it is really hard to go back. But when budget is a concern, Quest 3S does well

I have watched several comparisons on other channels. I concluded the same thing but yours was technically and completely clear, those side-by-side comparisons were awesome and I'm glad you did it with the videos as well as the stills. The only downside I see is that maybe the Quest 3 will sunset sooner (and my old eyes probably can't tell much difference) but I'm still going to save for the Quest 3. Thanks so much!
I love these reviews of yours. Before when I didn't have a viewfinder to speculate whether to go ahead or wait because I still didn't like to see defects or poor sharpness. It's worth noting that the Quest 3S uses the same render resolution as the Quest 3, so even though the display resolution is lower, it still looks a tiny bit nicer compared to the 2.
I follow VR evolution since the rift prototype, the only VR headset i ever had is a gear VR i've use it like few hours only.. Now VR seems to be relatively mature for à resonable price that's amazing. I thing i'll wait 2025 for a quest 4 and buy one

It's nice to have options. I didn't seem to realize how drastically clearer the pancake lenses and extra resolution of the Q3 was than the Q2. The Q3S seems to shine over the Q2 mostly in mixed reality especially. The colors look a little more faded compared to Q3 but still such a huge improvement over the unusable Q2 passthrough. Considering Q3S can play all the same games Q3 can, though, for a smaller price I'd consider gifting it to someone to play multiplayer with. If you can afford Q3, absolutely worth it. It's widely acclaimed as a headset even among PCVR users for a reason. Pick your budget and you honestly still can't go too wrong though.
I was so close to get 3s, but I think I will get quest 3 instead. I need a bit more sharpness for video editing, typing or read documents with it and watch movies at night. It's more expensive, just have to bite the bullet.
I really want to get a Q3 mostly for its lenses, but I don't like how you lose the IR passthrough. On PC I run my Q2 at the max resolution of 5408 x 2736 and you really need to look for the screen door effect, on standalone Q2 is mostly the blurryness that comes from some games and the less graphical power of the Q2. The IR passthrough of the Q2 is really useful, and fun if you have an IR flashlight to make yourself some nice night vision goggles lol.
When moving while in passthrough seem to stutter alot for the Quest 3S in your video compared to Quest 3, is that just a video taking limitation or does it really stutter that much while moving in passthrough?
Yes. I came here to ask the same. The Quest 3s really seemed to stutter in pass-through, like low framerate. That surprised me since it has the same processor as the Quest 3. Was that evident when using it?
I've had trouble with the controllers on the quest 3s I've had to take back the first one and the second one is doing the same thing . The problem is the rear triggers spring or something along those lines . One side will be fine while the other feels off and makes noise
I guess it depends on you if u must have the latest greatest like a lot of us do then go for the 3 but if like me you spent 400 on the 2 the small increase in capability is not worth the price of starting all over. I'm going to wait for the 4 or a competitor that blows the 3 away 🤔
The quest software on the quest 2 apps downrezes everything without the PC GPU. Points taken though. The quest 3 pass through looks really good and would buy it just for that alone.

For visuals, the Quest 3 wins. Clarity is much better on Text and overall graphics. The Quest 3 S is better than the Quest 2. I already have the Quest 3, so I don't need to go out and also buy any of the other 2 headsets. They are all good headsets, it depends on what you use them for. Nice that the 3S is a lower market cost for people first entering the VR world.
Why the performance of Quest 3S looks worse than Quest 2 in this video? Beat Saber and mixed reality looks like running at half the fps compared to Quest 2, it's very choppy, while the gameplay and passthrough in Quest 2 looks much smoother. Shouldn't it be the opposite, since Quest 3S has a better chipset? For me higher fps (preferably 120 Hz) has higher priority than resolution, so based on this video I would choose Quest 2 over Quest 3S. Something is wrong here. 🤔

@@mastorasmars2326 I tried so many times, but I couldn't any good resolult unfortunately, as the AVP is very aggressive with the eye tracking rendering and the fall back is to lower down the entire res of the screen including the center... Maybe they will change something in the future, but so far, it's impossible

The Quest 3 optics are so good that I think anyone buying a 3S will have buyer's remorse a couple of months in, they'll be wondering "What if I had saved the extra money and gotten the REAL Q3". Personally I think the Quest 3S should have been called the Quest 2 Plus so people new to VR don't get confused and buy the 3S when they really want the 3.
Binocular overlap is much better on the 3s, 3s has a clear image, pancake lenses are a bit dull. I myself go for the 3s, don't care that much for pancake lenses, on my psvr2, just edge to edge clarity with larger vof than quest3. 3s modding you get a bit more vof.
@triopical6884 no, they are less bright, but they do have a bit more color. Quest3 is a bit sharper, in games you don't see that much difference, but if you want to read text you notice it.

The most dramatic advantage of the Quest 3 over its predesesors are the pancake lenses! Fresnel lenses of the other two are terrible in my opinion!

It's nice to have options. I didn't seem to realize how drastically clearer the pancake lenses and extra resolution of the Q3 was than the Q2. The Q3S seems to shine over the Q2 mostly in mixed reality especially. The colors look a little more faded compared to Q3 but still such a huge improvement over the unusable Q2 passthrough. Considering Q3S can play all the same games Q3 can, though, for a smaller price I'd consider gifting it to someone to play multiplayer with. If you can afford Q3, absolutely worth it. It's widely acclaimed as a headset even among PCVR users for a reason. Pick your budget and you honestly still can't go too wrong though.

I was so close to get 3s, but I think I will get quest 3 instead. I need a bit more sharpness for video editing, typing or read documents with it and watch movies at night. It's more expensive, just have to bite the bullet.

I really want to get a Q3 mostly for its lenses, but I don't like how you lose the IR passthrough.
On PC I run my Q2 at the max resolution of 5408 x 2736 and you really need to look for the screen door effect, on standalone Q2 is mostly the blurryness that comes from some games and the less graphical power of the Q2.
The IR passthrough of the Q2 is really useful, and fun if you have an IR flashlight to make yourself some nice night vision goggles lol.
The 3S is pretty damn clean for what it’s working with! I’ll still tell anyone to save up some more and upgrade to the 3 if you’re coming from the 2 😝
When moving while in passthrough seem to stutter alot for the Quest 3S in your video compared to Quest 3, is that just a video taking limitation or does it really stutter that much while moving in passthrough?
Yes. I came here to ask the same. The Quest 3s really seemed to stutter in pass-through, like low framerate. That surprised me since it has the same processor as the Quest 3. Was that evident when using it?

I've had trouble with the controllers on the quest 3s I've had to take back the first one and the second one is doing the same thing . The problem is the rear triggers spring or something along those lines . One side will be fine while the other feels off and makes noise
3:50 was the whitebalance on your camera consistent or does the Q3s have a blue/green color shift?

I guess it depends on you if u must have the latest greatest like a lot of us do then go for the 3 but if like me you spent 400 on the 2 the small increase in capability is not worth the price of starting all over. I'm going to wait for the 4 or a competitor that blows the 3 away 🤔
Interesting comparations. It's looks quest 3s is much sharper compare to quest 2. But how ? Both using same lenses and display.
Better processor and internal resolution
The quest software on the quest 2 apps downrezes everything without the PC GPU. Points taken though. The quest 3 pass through looks really good and would buy it just for that alone.
3s is the best value, look at the difference from 2 to 3s and 3s to 3

Why on earth is the 3S’s passthrough juddery? It’s like the reprojection is turned off, like the passthrough on the Quest 1 when it launched.

For visuals, the Quest 3 wins. Clarity is much better on Text and overall graphics.

They are all good headsets, it depends on what you use them for. Nice that the 3S is a lower market cost for people first entering the VR world.

Why the performance of Quest 3S looks worse than Quest 2 in this video? Beat Saber and mixed reality looks like running at half the fps compared to Quest 2, it's very choppy, while the gameplay and passthrough in Quest 2 looks much smoother. Shouldn't it be the opposite, since Quest 3S has a better chipset? For me higher fps (preferably 120 Hz) has higher priority than resolution, so based on this video I would choose Quest 2 over Quest 3S. Something is wrong here. 🤔

@@mastorasmars2326 I tried so many times, but I couldn't any good resolult unfortunately, as the AVP is very aggressive with the eye tracking rendering and the fall back is to lower down the entire res of the screen including the center... Maybe they will change something in the future, but so far, it's impossible
If its for games the AVP is a waste, for its 'intended use' the FOV is too low, id wait for the AVP2

The Quest 3 optics are so good that I think anyone buying a 3S will have buyer's remorse a couple of months in, they'll be wondering "What if I had saved the extra money and gotten the REAL Q3". Personally I think the Quest 3S should have been called the Quest 2 Plus so people new to VR don't get confused and buy the 3S when they really want the 3.

Could you compare Binocular overlap of Quest 3s vs Quest 3 ?
Binocular overlap is much better on the 3s, 3s has a clear image, pancake lenses are a bit dull. I myself go for the 3s, don't care that much for pancake lenses, on my psvr2, just edge to edge clarity with larger vof than quest3. 3s modding you get a bit more vof.

@triopical6884 no, they are less bright, but they do have a bit more color. Quest3 is a bit sharper, in games you don't see that much difference, but if you want to read text you notice it.
