Josh, I totally agree with you on the jack stands. Like you said, with all of the other hydraulics on it and for the price you paid for it which I’m sure wasn’t cheap, those jacks should be hooked to the hydraulics. Sometimes bigger is not always better my friend.
Before I got my own mill I used a custom cutter who had a Woodmizer®. His brother took over the operation and wasn't very good at it. He often set up the machine with the head flopping to the drive side. When the blade got into the log, the head would flop to the other side. No doubt his guide blocks were worn out but there is no excuse for sloppy machine operation. That was an LT40. I hope they have gone from plastic guide blocks to proper roller bearings. That's the trouble with cantilevered heads.
Love me some fresh milled lumber.. where I had my 10Ac in Macon NC. My neighbor at the end of the road, mills lumber. It was great taking trees on my property , get it milled and build stuff.. Have a great week ahead Josh, be safe.. Hapoy New Year🎉🎉🎉🇺🇸🇺🇸
Josh you are a pretty talented guy as most farmers are. The cost of fixing things makes many farmers a jack of all trades. Some your fault some, not on you. Plastics are good products when used for what they were made for. That type of tubing is failing because it is not meant to be used in direct sunlight as some here have stated and one overlooked issue. The products in manufacturing are not chosen for best product available, but lowest cost. You might try some metal brake line tubing with some synthetic rubber isolation tubing to allow for vibration at the connection points. That takes care of UV issues. Escalators and elevators deal with vibration on a large scale, not so much UV issues. When the design or installation does not allow for vibration, we have failures. So the time and cost saved is lost to a much more expensive repair to do it right and eliminate the problem. Plastic tubing will crack from vibration in time as will metal. The water lubrication system needs to be flushed and drained if it is not going to be used for several weeks or months and maybe some pump saver ran thru the pump. Especially when using just soap and water. Windshield washer fluid helps keeps bacteria from growing and sludging the line and nozzles up. Kind of expensive but necessary in freezing temps. Capital Log Yard has a high end Production Woodmizer, It has had a couple of problems too. Like all tools and equipment takes some time to figure out how to best use, maintain and protect the equipment. Does your TYM have hydraulic flow adjustment in the Cab in front of the seat?
I would say uv rays and just the weather are your culprits for the paint. I’ve owned two woodmizers overs 25 years and never had paint flake off like yours. I built a garage specifically for the sawmills and the one I own now LT35, for over 5 years still looks like new. I would build a saw shed for the mill and keep it out of the weather. Just my opinion. Love your videos 👍cheers
Agree 100% Your first project is to mill some 4x4's or 6x6 posts and build a shed to keep your sawmill under. Just because the sawmill is on wheels doesn't mean it's meant to be kept out in the rain, snow and sun. That is not a cheap machine. Treat it as such!!
To level the mill from side to side, I use a level and drive the low side up onto boards placed in front of a tire. I aim to have the side support side slightly lower than the loading side. I then use a level to set the mill slightly lower on the hitch end. I have done this hundreds of times over the last 12 years. I am on my third WoodMizer, yes the paint is an issue. The cover that they sell does help. Good video as usual!
I have a woodmizer lt15 I’ve had it for almost 5 years now and while it’s handy having a sawmill I can’t say it was worth it. I could easily go to a local guy and get all the lumber I need. But what I mean by being worth it, I always have to work on it. It’s not been used much at all and there something that constantly needs fixed or adjusted. I’ve had issues with it cutting straight and have also contacted woodmizer several times and they honestly have not been helpful at all. The only person from woodmizer who’s helped me was a guy at the farm show down in Raleigh at the state fairgrounds. If I knew what I know now I’d probably looked at another brand and never bought a woodmizer
I think woodmizer makes the best mill for sure, but you've got a point...it's much cheaper to just buy your lumber. I'm happy with mine, the more often ya use it the more proficient you'll get at repairs. These recent repairs have been the most troublesome, but still not bad
@ i absolutely love running it and I think it’s very nice to be able to mill my own lumber but I’m just not happy with the customer service. I’ve never had a product that was so bad with service after the sale
hmm....well I sure ain't lol...the mill wants to be ran....v/s sitting. Rest assured I'll give ya the real info my friend...I think most folks are good hearted and trying to share good info with ya
Lower your spreader a little bit, you may be having too much pressure on the pump lower your spreader should take it put more hydraulic fluid to the front
I would say that all that concluded plumbing with quick, connect to the nipples and the accessories; so that you would call a tech rep🎉 up on the phone and said I can't figure out why this thing is not working. For them to send somebody so you can be charged for a service call for a $3 item. Yes liquid soaps do jell due to long term evapotranspiration while sitting.
Good afternoon from sunny Aberdeen Scotland... cant help but thing a curtain side lorry body would be an excellent storage or usage solution for your sawmill.. to be stored in or even used in with a chassis fitted... stay safe 🏴 keed up the cracking work on the vids..
I think you need to build a saw mill house it would help it a lot. Soap when it dries it gets sticky and dust will get in that nozzle and clog it up. Put a piece of hose on the nozzle that might help.
At what diameter log does it start making it worth while cutting to make your own wood just asking question cause I’ve been thinking about a sawmill but if it ain’t worth it to make my own lumber, why buy it
it's cheaper to buy lumber than it is to mill it yourself.....however, there could be tax benifits and it's so rewarding to not depend on anyone for your lumber. More coming on the sawmill my brotha!
sweden here .. tune in hydraulic pump, it seems to be slow ,, pump is behind rear back wheel, u need to remove the wheel, its 10 min job, you need a hydraulic messur pressure thing to messure.
That sawmill needs to be inside or at the LEAST under a cover/roof. You would not leave a lathe, drill press or other equipment outside, why would you expect diff from other equipment? Just a casual observation. You may be able to browbeat the manufacturer and get them to warranty some of the wear and tear items. Lines are like belts etc. They wear/ degrade. Good luck.
Do you have a filter / sediment bowl for your water line? If not, it would likely help. Hate to see the TYM not doing all you need. Equipment ain't cheap. Does the grapple work better on the skid steer? Hope the winter fares well for you and the farm.
Josh it’s not paint. I don’t believe it is probably powder coat. I’ve owned many new pieces of equipment that has been powder coat. This is what it does. Especially if they do not prepare the surface properly when they go to put the powder coat on. It’s sitting out in the weather for three years did not help anything either.
I have a guess. The soap in the Lubrication is accelerating the rusting from that leaking connect when you used it and didn't notice because it was inside. You see it on washing machines around detergent dispensers. I need a new washing machine... Peeowe!!! lol
i personally think of figure out a regular tube steel hitch would be handier so everything with ball hitch could be moved and in some cases mounted like a winch
would be Kool if the portable mills were self leveling like some RV s wondering how difficult that would actually be especially if mill is mobile often
I love watching the channel and have a sawmill question because whilst I don't use them i'm still curious. The little round blade that goes before the main blade cutting through that cuts a notch out through the bark. What purpose does that actually have ? Is it to stop it having a raggedy cut behind or something ? I'm probably being a bit thick but it intrigues me enough to ask.
yep...I could have one....but the tractor is gonna stay over here for a bit so I had to leave it and grab the truck...didn't wanna remove the seed spreader for this...would take me 30 mins to remove and put back on
Josh, I'm realizing that most manufacturers make things very difficult to fix, for the average person on purpose. They're making it difficult, so we have to pay them to fix it, and for their parts. We almost have to become an engineer to fix things, and often times, some of the parts are very redundant. Very sad, but very true.
heck, when I bought the mill I was talked out of ordering the cover...the salesman told me to just wrap it in a tarp....I told him I wanted a cover...he insisted it was a waste! Now look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It appears based on your description of your 3rd function that you have a diverter 3rd function verses a true 3rd function valve. Since it is diverting it has to take the flow from somewhere. If you have a 3rd function valve, then you should be able to do multifunction at the same time.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer if you search on youtube, you will find videos showing the difference between a 3rd function valve and 3rd function diverter. The diverters are usually cheaper than a valve. The function basically the same, except, whatever you are diverting the flow away from will no longer function. I thought on one of the channels I watch, the individual mentioned that TYM was preparing to release or had released a true 3rd function valve. It might be worth asking some questions to your TYM in dealer. Yet, you the only one that could decide if the cost would be justified to switch it out. Good luck and have a great New Year.
The mill is made in USA. All of the parts are not. All of the failing plastic parts and hose are made in China. Will be hard but if you can reach out to an industrial hose and fitting supply company you may be able to get US made hose and fittings. There is a difference.
Leaving an all metal machine in the elements, even with the best paint applications, the paint will break down over time. Especially with those high heat summer days of NC. Great video, though. Very informative. I hope the repairs begin to slow down. it seems like everything is breaking lately. Good luck, brother.
I guess anything mechanical will fail eventually....but, if this were a 4 year old car would we expect the paint to let go? I'm a little bit disappointed that even surfaces that are never rained upon are starting to peel...I'm gonna ask woodmizer about it, or at least some touch up paint
In situations like this, I wish companies would adopt the same process as the paint applications to the sheet mental on your barndo, as the outdoor equipment and tools used on the farm. I believe sheet mental uses an electromagnetic bond when dipped in paint. The touch up would be a great idea to a least slow and prevent further peeling.
Build yourself a pole barn big enough to keep your equipment under. Keeping things outdoors plays a significant roll in the deterioration of said equipment. Don't ask me how I know this fact
Was thinking if you didn't need the grapple build a steel pallet to mound the ATV on and use pallet forks to haul it out so you wouldn't have to walk all that way
oh a little walk ain't gonna hurt anyone my friend....funny story, I have a good buddy that used to run a body shop...it was about 200 feet from his house, he would drive his car 200 feet back and forth for work, lunch and at the end of the day lol. He smokes about 1 pack per day and now at 46 he's in early stages of COPD!! I kept telling him....walk bro!!! Walk!!
Cold temperatures and expanding liquid can destroy many things, also leaving equipment in the weather is not good! I really thought when you bought this you would mill lumber to build pole barns to get your equipment and implements out of the weather!
I will, but time is the major factor in all this, takes a lot of lumber to build things and having time to mill, store and dry that wood is tough sometimes. Sawmill shed coming soon...as soon as I can figure out where to put it lol
Replace all that UV sensitive clear plastic tubing with” fuel “ /UV RESISTANT TUBING . That clear plastic tank is subject to the same UV DEGRADATION IF left exposed to the sun light . A manufacturer over sight (defect). On the hydraulic issue look into a higher or variable flow pump .
I am very frustrated with tool and equipment companies (and there are many of them) who sell their product claiming superior engineering and material quality. And then it turns out they have very similar quality issues as the companies (ie harbor freight...) that they mock.
Got my LX50 Super this week. Lots of trees down from Helene here on our property in WNC. Got lots of projects to rebuild seeing that the river took everything with it.
You did some great reverse engineering on the spray system. Good job. Reality for a farmer. Not sure on the flaking problem? Woodmizer question for sure. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
sounds like need an additional 3rd function hydraulic sawing with Sandy had to install additional 3rd function i also know some hydraulic system require high flow vs regular flow hydraulic for certain attachments to function correctly or quickly
yep...this is just standard tractor hydraulics....most high flow implements are mowers, cutters and mulchers. It's just the internals of this machine...I been running a skid steer too long and got spoiled lol
glad you like it....I'm happy with mine too. Now...you can service this tractor yourself, no sense in hauling and paying someone unless you're just uncomfortable. Super easy to service
@StoneyRidgeFarmer don't know if you are familiar with the Outdoors with the Morgan's channel. He does a mix with dawn and I think it's a little antifreeze. He's running in PA right now. Mike Morgan.
I know Mike for sure, I guess at some concentration all soaps will have a bit of corrosion effect....but something else is at work here...it's not just the moisture....something is going on with the paint/powder coat
I just came up with a wild idea. You should build a huge building to keep most of your stuff in to keep it out of the elements. You should even call it the mega shop.
Josh are you moving or just getting ready for climate change getting boots thats rated for that low of temp. Old fashine pedal bike for moves that close to home base. On that TYM tractor can you adjust the hydraulics up a bit check with there service dept. or there manual threr should be a pressure rateing high and low you would have to take it so a hydraulic mechanic can test the flow rates.
It's not paint. It is powder coated. A cheap way to put color on parts but it is not durable. Anywhere it cracks water gets inside and lifts the powder coating off. There is no primer. It is not flexible like automotive paint. Outdoor equipment needs to be painted. Powder coat sucks.
heck...the parts that are rusting have never been wet! That's my concern...these parts are under the motor...just humidity from being outside..it's odd
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer the way they make things these days and especially using recycled materials and cheap paint, really doesnt help. keep those vids coming. 👍👍👍
Josh you need a cover for working parts something that is waterproof for sun tough somewhat abrasion resistant a car cover like hood and to dry ant light oil treat: motor, blade, that fits to pretty good coverage tall or short with a few drawstring so you can run it down the road without loosing it.
I was looking for a strong ripstop nylon tent cover rainfly to get the intense moisture & sound off my good canvas wall tent I found it in a Montana canvas , their company sold an above the rest rainfly of ripstop nylon , so I was thinking of covering my great quality land cruiser from out of Japan with a great quality rainfly weather tarp to keep the rain out too as was very impressed by quality I'd not seen before in ripstop nylon; Josh with a bit of measuring and drawing I'd bet a smart guy like you could figure a generous safe amount of nylon to configure a cover for your , forgive my nomenclature license, sawmill powerhead assembly weather cover take your design to a sail or upholstery shop and I bet you could get a skookum cover made up that last you a decade plus or more that would travel on down the road of your sawmill quite nicely. This ripstop nylon rainfly is very nice indeed
Maybe you should think about getting some sort of shelter for all of your outdoor equipment. Take care of your equipment and it'll take care of you. Just saying.
it's coming....but the sawmill has been in the building for months now....only after I started storing it inside did it start having troubles...odd huh

Sawmill shed coming soon...as soon as I can figure out where to put it lol
try changing your hydraulic filter to see if that helps your hydraulic speed
As far as the tractor goes. You may need to bleed the air out of the hydraulics.
Gives the appearance that the lube froze.
Equipment is not painted like automobiles. Not meant to sit outside all year.
I think it was sprayon paint when they should have powdercoated it.
honestly...I believe it's powder coated....but something must be up
Replace all that UV sensitive clear plastic tubing with” fuel “ /UV RESISTANT TUBING .
And then it turns out they have very similar quality issues as the companies (ie harbor freight...) that they mock.
for sure the woodmizer is a great mill...but I am having some odd rust issues for some reason
Happy New Year 🎆
Woooooo
Got my LX50 Super this week. Lots of trees down from Helene here on our property in WNC. Got lots of projects to rebuild seeing that the river took everything with it.
Interesting. At least you're handy enough to work on it yourself.. 🤔
heck, if I had to rely on someone else to fix everything around here I'd be broke lol....I break everything eventually!
You did some great reverse engineering on the spray system. Good job. Reality for a farmer.
Not sure on the flaking problem? Woodmizer question for sure. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Merry Christmas to you too!
sounds like need an additional 3rd function hydraulic
sawing with Sandy had to install additional 3rd function
i also know some hydraulic system require high flow vs regular flow hydraulic for certain attachments to function correctly or quickly
yep...this is just standard tractor hydraulics....most high flow implements are mowers, cutters and mulchers. It's just the internals of this machine...I been running a skid steer too long and got spoiled lol
It would be cool if the saw mill had an auto leveling system simulator to the one on a motor home or RV trailer!
Love our TYM 474HC. We bought ours from Smiths Enterprise in Salemburg NC and have Reedy Creek Equipment service it
glad you like it....I'm happy with mine too. Now...you can service this tractor yourself, no sense in hauling and paying someone unless you're just uncomfortable. Super easy to service
what type of bed is on the chevy truck that you pulled the woodmizer with?
not sure the brand...but it's an old home depot rental truck..that's an aluminum dump bed
Dude, where’s your hearing protection? Good video!!
in my ears brother
Instead of walking back do you have a small trailer to put a 4x4 on?
oh a little 5 min walk won't hurt any of us right?
Could you buy that field?
maybe at some point
Hey Josh thank you for the video and happy New Year to you and your whole family woo
Same to you!
The weather will destroy equipment in time for years I put all my equipment in the barn. Some of the tractor implements outside.but that was it.
That’s unusual for a salesman!
It is the valving of the third function.
I'm not sure what the blue stuff is in the lube tank, but it might have a corrosive agent in it?
My buddy has the same mill and works on it constantly
Windshield wiper fluid has corrosives in it, salt. Mix your own. Dawn .
can't do the Dawn thing in the winter my brotha....otherwise I would totally mix my own..much less expensive
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Gotcha
where's the hotrod truck??? the lightning??
never had a lightning...you mean the junk pile ford raptor? It's been sold for a while now....JUNK!!!! Never again!
I just came up with a wild idea. You should build a huge building to keep most of your stuff in to keep it out of the elements. You should even call it the mega shop.
mill has been in the shop for months my brother.....soon we'll build a dedicated sawmill shed for sure
Just joking with you. I built a shop 5 years ago filled that sucker in months. Never thought I would ever fill it
Sitting out in the weather has not been kind to the milll.
it's odd...because It's been in the shop now for months...but you are right!
@ I’m betting it’s more because of the summer sun, 🌞 it eats plastic for lunch, WoodMizer may have even bought a bad batch. 🤷♂️
oh for sure the plastic hose isn't UV resistant...it's basically the same kinda water line that goes to your fridge
Josh are you moving or just getting ready for climate change getting boots thats rated for that low of temp. Old fashine pedal bike for moves that close to home base. On that TYM tractor can you adjust the hydraulics up a bit check with there service dept. or there manual threr should be a pressure rateing high and low you would have to take it so a hydraulic mechanic can test the flow rates.
man...I was very impressed with the boots that's for sure....they're gonna be my go too for wet weather!
It's not paint. It is powder coated. A cheap way to put color on parts but it is not durable. Anywhere it cracks water gets inside and lifts the powder coating off. There is no primer. It is not flexible like automotive paint. Outdoor equipment needs to be painted. Powder coat sucks.
Got to blame someone!
I blame me! lol
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer If it makes you feel better I blame you too!🤣lol
heat and cold, rain and sun, shrinking and expanding, destroys everythng. needs a roof and shade.
heck...the parts that are rusting have never been wet! That's my concern...these parts are under the motor...just humidity from being outside..it's odd
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer the way they make things these days and especially using recycled materials and cheap paint, really doesnt help. keep those vids coming. 👍👍👍
All Viewers, SOS: Please send GOOD dog food to the Stoney Farm. Thank you.
been feeding buddy pro plan focus since he was off puppy food, what do you recommend?
I never lube and my saw runs beautifully just slowdown on cut speed
you don't use any lube when cutting lumber? Interesting
Was hear. Woooo
All TYM tractors are the same way. I have the T654 and I don't like it either. Your big Tym is likely the same.
Keep it in mega shop till using it
heck...it was in there! That's when it started rusting...odd huh?
Josh, I haven't seen the Toyota Fj in any of your videos lately. Did you sell it ? I'm just curious, I really like those vehicles.
oh it's in the garage right now...I drive it a few times a month...my "going to town rig"
Did you give up with your beekeeping? No sign of the hives when you are driving around the farm.
bee hives are right beside the garden...ya must have missed the garden video from last week....I show the bees in that one
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thank you for replying,, for some reason, although I subscribe to your interesting channel, the gardening video did not appear when released, I have found and watched it now.
awesome! Glad ya found it......not sure why notifications aren't going out like they should...just the way it goes I guess lol
none or poor primer
thats job for 3 men
Wow! UA-camrs have all the mechanical gadgets known to man, and now foot wear......professional video salespeople!! I'm just dumb enough to watch.......
interesting outlook brother.....let's give ya some "back end details" .....this vid took about 20 hours to film and about 8 hours to edit and post. Sponsored content like this helps pay for fuel, time, taxes, tools, tires, trucks, equipment, livestock feed and more...so much on the back end here that folks don't see. Every penny does count and I'm just like anyone else...eeking out a living in an over inflated economy. I love what I do, but buddy....it comes at a high cost...time is the most costly part of content creation. Kudos to anyone who does this for a living....it's the toughest job I've ever had! Glad you enjoy watching my brotha!
Don't leave your equipment outside, I am sorry but enough said.
sawmill should hold up outside, but you are right!
