2006 Nomad Riding Review

  • Recently upped my riding status with a Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad 1600.
I've wanted a bigger bike for a while, and I've taken my time looking into it. I have a Suzuki Vstrom 650 and its a great bike, but I wanted something for longer hauls with my wife coming along. The Nomad is a fine choice.
It's not everything I wanted, but it's an inexpensive way to enter the big bike world. My first bike was a 350 Honda, and after were 2 more Honda 400's. My favorite bike was a 1985 Yamaha Virago 750, and it had lots of chrome and straight pipes. An accident sent me back, but I got back into it with a late 70's Honda 750. That's all behind me now as I chug in the big club of cruiser class bikes.

I am close to passing 90k on my 2007 Nomad. Absolutely love the bike. Comfortable all day long. Plenty of power. Great rumble.
I put on a luggage rack, the hard bag covers like you have, and a decorative grill over the radiator. Beyond that, it is stock.
Although that luggage box on the back looks very nice.
You can put a little extra air in the rear shocks and get even more performance in the corners when the suspension doesn't sink in too much.
I love doing rides out to West Virginia, Western Virginia, and the South Eastern Ohio.
Rolls beautifully out on the highway too.
    Stay safe!

This is an awesome bike, but I have 4 now, and the Goldwing has made this obsolete. Great cruiser, and the rumble is like a Harley. It's hard to sell for some reason. Maybe folks keep them when they get them. Good to know 90 K is easy for this bike. Thanks for the comment.

@@advorlando9855 I get having to make decisions on the stable of bikes. And the Goldwing being a better road bike. If I ever replace my Nomad, it would probably be with a Voyager.

I had never considered the voyager until i got the nomad. Only Electra glide, road glide, or goldwing. The 1700 voyager videos had me open to it if i found one. I think it would be a great choice.

Had mine about 5 years. Best mods is backrest and cobra true duels exhaust. They're becoming kinda rare as people find out west good bikes the really are.. Make sure wife likes next bike as much as this one. Happy riding man

It's not American it's Japanese and it costs half of what American bikes cost specially used and it is owner friendly to where you can do your own maintenance and there is no chain to worry about it is shaft drive and you can save a lot of $$$$$$.

I've never tendered the battery. I would only start it monthly while in hibernation. It started every time I hit the start button. I can't say the same for my Vstrom, and its a super reliable bike as well.

True. The lines are great to look at. The exhaust note is deep and loud, but not too loud. Very reliable bike.

Beautiful bike. I’m testing a 2000 model tomorrow. Anything I need to look out for?

Not really. I think you'll be looking at a 1500 cc model. Its recommended to put high octane gas in them, and mine back fires when i let off the gas when i use 87 octane. I now put only 93 octane simply because it's better for the bike. They are very reliable, cool bikes to ride. You won't regret it. There is a difference of a dollar to a tank at the most.

Does that passenger back rest / box have a brand or is it actually a Kaw accessory?

It was on there when i bought it, but it has a kawasaki emblem on the back. Everything is original on it.
