I’m astonished by the ignorance of grown Americans buying habits. Don’t these people ever research the products they exchange their money before buying??? I haven’t driven an American made brand in over 30 years, because they aren’t up to Japanese standards. I’m still driving the 08 Tundra I bought new, and it still looks new inside and out, and runs like new even with 250,000 miles! And I own a 2001 Prism ( Corolla) I bought used for $400.00, and daily drive it and it looks and drives new too! I knew 30 years ago that our legacy brands are inferior. How come no one else has figured this out by now ???
There are standouts, currently looking at chevy equinox, supposedly only second to toyota in it's segment. Not only a lot less up front but parts are more available and cost a lot less.
Scotty, love what you do! FYI. Soichira Honda quote:”If you make a defective product, you are a defective person. If interested, there are some great biographies on his life. Roji He also had a great corporate philosophy.
I agree that the foreigners fail to pay workers fairly. However, I yearn to see an honest cost analysis for the production of a vehicle entirely in the US given that workers should receive a fair wage.
We are responsible for our corporate greed, US being birthplace of capitalism. Look at the ridiculous medical & pharma industry! We are 100% responsible for never-ending inflation and endless printing of dollars!
You go on about how great the Chinese are, but you are old enough to remember when all the corporations were pushing the idea of moving operations to China. The stipulation put forth by the Chinese government was that they have a Chinese team work right along with the US management team to learn the processes. We have them the edge the they so desperately wanted. I am no genius in business but I remember how i thought that was an insane thing to do....but here we are.
The problem with corporate American outsourcing all of those jobs overseas is they are outsourcing their customers to overseas by moving those jobs. Those workers get paid a lot less and can't buy the products they are making (remember Henry Ford raising wages so his workers could afford his cars?). Now they can't figure out why no Americans can afford their cars...
@@marcusjohnson5412Just a few ones, iphone factories are of the best ones, they actually love foxconn because pays decently, has A/C and doesnt hold your salary back.

LOL. They are good. We have BYD in Brazil (amonst others) and they have been put to the test. Much better than any Ford out there in the road around here....
Our manufacturing has built a truck getting incredibly high mileage. A friend of my uncle bought Ford pickup in the 70's. He thought gas gauge wasn't working. After having it ck'd 6 times by the dealer. They found that an experimental carburetor. Installed by mistake. Ford wanted truck back. He wouldn't give it back. He had to make a deal when he was ready to sell Ford was first in line to buy. To hide this technology.
Ah, the conspiracy btw the gas companies and car manufacturers trope. Always a 2 or more degree separation in people, no verifiable details and a salacious story. Eventually one of them has to be true eh?
I drove a friend's BYD Song in Shanghai and it's super high-quality and well-manufactured. Their EV cars, regardless of how one feels about this market, are pretty top notch. They're really trying to prove something in their manufacturing by breaking stereotypes and I respect that. They got that efficiency thing going with all their industries, not just EV cars. Given the air pollution issues that use to plague major cities, I see EV cars becoming mainstay vehicles in the country. Still prefer my Subaru though, lol. But if I were to relocate there for work, I'd go EV as they have the infrastructure for this.

Partially true. But it's the top execs who are moving production to China that are really destroying American jobs. All so they can buy their 20th Yacht that they will never step foot on.
I don't even think it's going to be a corporate lobbying problem to butter up politicians when QA doesn't allow chinese cars to be imported. It's actually not about price but for once legitimately about safety.
The car companies are not the problem. The Chinese don't have UNIONS! The benefits alone are enough to make the US manufacturers non-competitive. And American car workers make two to four times the wages of the Chinese workers. I don't blame GM, Ford, Chrysler for prices. It's the UAW. They passed fair wages a long time ago.
Tesla Model 2 target base price $25K for normal people. Testa allows you to take it home for an overnight test drive. Chinese $16K SUV Atto 3 in China, $40K in Europe.

Scotty's right about read your electric utility's policy for 'buying' your generated electricity BEFORE you planning adding solar and incurring all those costs. Here is SE MN, my utility will only square with your annual consumption at their wholesale cost and reset your electric account each year to 0. So, if you had surplus they restart the counter each year. So, you still pay the utility's base costs, which is a large part of my bill. The only way to possibly make solar work is to disconnect from the utility, so, you're on your own. Re-connection fees must be also considered. They can be quite high. A lot of homework needs to be done and be sure of the costs. Panels are usually rated for 10 years, etc.
That's an unbelievable deal for the dealerships. All that happened here is the manufacturers told the dealerships buy one get five free. None of us will ever see the savings passed down to us.
Adam Smith on Tariffs: The second case, in which it will generally be advantageous to lay some burden upon foreign for the encouragement of domestic industry is, when some tax is imposed at home upon the produce of the latter. In this case, it does seem reasonable that an equal tax should be imposed upon the like produce of the former.
An appealing concept, and it might have some bite if tariffs were applied at the point where a product is shipped. The reality is the added cost is at the end--where the customer pays for the product, so it is the customer, not the manufacturer nor the nation in which the product is manufactured that pays the added cost.
The Chinese are losing money on most of their endeavors to get a foot in the door. As soon as they have a hold in the market, they'll do the same exact thing. Expecting any less of our enemies is foolish.

Retired now but between 2005 to 2015 the prices businesses payed for health insurance premiums went up every year and the co-pay sky rocketing no wonder manufacturing went overseas. If the federal government would fix health care across the board business will be back.

As an American I realize that we think far too much of ourselves than we should. My wife is from the Philippines and she says it takes a college degree just to work at McDonalds. Tariffs are what actually enforce labour and environmental laws. Without tariffs, all laws are circumvented. Ideally, a federal government is supported solely via tariffs and not income taxes, especially as it is the money left after taxes that an individual is actually willing to work for.
That stuff happens here in Canada too, you didn't buy your car here and don't want to warranty anything for any brand. then when you actually bring it back to the original dealership and they say it isn't that bad yet.
I'm 46 and have never considered buying an American truck or car.
There are standouts, currently looking at chevy equinox, supposedly only second to toyota in it's segment. Not only a lot less up front but parts are more available and cost a lot less.
First gen Equinoxes were OK, then they put a turbo 4 in it and they're absolute garbage now. Comparing an Equinox to a Toyota is laughable.

He also had a great corporate philosophy.
We can’t pay our employees $3.0 a day, that’s why. We can’t build factories without miles of red tape, that’s why. We have tons of taxes, that’s why
They also have slavery.
@VKSgtSLaughter nope they don't. If you visit China, you'd be shocked how developed they are.
@yelwing Exactly right. A lot of American companies definitely suck, but China cheats. Chuck Fina.

Wow.

The car companies are not the problem. The Chinese don't have UNIONS! The benefits alone are enough to make the US manufacturers non-competitive. And American car workers make two to four times the wages of the Chinese workers.

Adam Smith on Tariffs:
The second case, in which it will generally be advantageous to lay some burden upon foreign for the encouragement of domestic industry is, when some tax is imposed at home upon the produce of the latter.
