I've seen thousands of these cranes in my life but, this is the first time I've seen how they're erected. How large is the concrete base and how long must it cure before they assemble the crane? Thanks for posting.
I don't know the exact dimensions, but it is a pretty massive slab several feet thick. There is a photo in this blog post that shows the four mounting points for the north tower protruding from the middle of the slab. On another site they were pouring the foundation today (Wednesday) for a tower crane that will be erected Saturday. So they only needed a few days for the concrete to cure, even though it might take a bit longer to reach full strength.
So how did they assemble the other crane which lifted the components for this crane?
They use a "small" crane to assemble the big crane, which assembles the tower crane. The rigging crew starts very early in the morning.
@@JohnZWetmoreand how do they assemble the small crane
The smallest crane does not need to be assembled on site. It drives up ready to go.
