I like how the second the parents come out, Ares immediately goes to the brothers he was fighting moments before. The "I don't want to be here." is real.
He wasn’t fighting them he was sparing outing on the show and he didn’t so much as go to them but get out of the line of fire sense in most of the myths Hera is one of the strongest of the olympian gods and Zuse has a bunch of magic weapons made to seriously harm them
I really feel bad for Ares. This spotlights how much Zeus and Hera use him as an argument tool rather than treating him like their own son. It makes him understandable too. I’d be a rage filled basket case if my parents used me to get dirt on each other.

In the Myths Ares was Zeus’s least favorite child. Which is pretty bad considering of the twelve Olympians he was Zeus and Hera’s only undisputed legitimate son. In one myth Zeus stated if it was found that he was a bastard son he would be casted out of Olympus. I believe Zeus hated Ares violent and bloody personality.
I like the part where Ares just cautiously moving away from his parents and went next to his siblings

I'll admit I'm conflicted about that - Blood of Zeus should have had had a longer first season to develop the characters more so I would be eager for more. But it failed so much I don't think future seasons could help.
@@Lionstar16 I actually understand how you feel and what you mean. But remember they are doing the same way what Castlevania did. Had a limited number of episodes for the first season too see how huge an audience response it will receive then gradually made more episodes for upcoming seasons. Think about it you spent all this time and money making multiple episodes for audience response to be low as hell. You'll be bankrupt so it's a wise decision they made. Ofc the show the was amazing and we know it's gonna have another season

Ares is a momma's boy, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't fear both of his parents. They are both unstable in the myths and he ends up in the middle of everything
He is a momma boy but Hera is still very harsh on him, I suppose that compared with Zeus who openly hates and mocks him it could be percived as love. Still explains why he fell so hard for Aphodite whne she show him a bit of love.
Ares is underappreciated. He's more troubled than the other Gods because it his parents that are fighting. Hephaestus couldn't care less but Ares feels so tangled between two. He loves his father yet he also wants justice for his mother. Maybe that's a reason why he's a "coward".

Secondly, Hera, at that time, didn't even want to have Ares, Zeus raped her. Thirdly, Hebe and Eileithyia (and Enyo, if you go with the myth which she is Hera's daughter) (Also, Hephaestus is Hera's child who she somehow gave birth to) were born later, that was when Hera had fully accept her place as Zeus's spouse and the Queen of Gods and Goddesses; Hebe and Eileithyia represent the good things in life, Youth and Childbirth, therefore, Hera likes them more. Don't count Zeus in. he loves his illegitimate children more and hates his own legitimate children.

They really nailed Hermès in this show...
Lots of people highlight Hermès speed...those winged sandals ARE amazing...but the show also pointed out his lesser-known duty as a god: the shepherding of souls to the Underworld.
His “soul satchel” was a good example of his domain, as well as when he escorts the queen to Elysium.
Not only that, but they even included his Cap of Invisibility!
Between that, and his speed, it really cemented Hermès role as scout, spy, and Zeus’s best agent in clandestine missions.
The cap is because you really only hear of it in the Perseus myth and it’s usually over shadowed (no pun was ment they are evil little things) by his uncle hades helm of darkness
I like the fact that Hera actually wield true power. The other gods seem to fear her as equal as Zeus.

Unlike the other gods of Olympus, Hephaestus did not give a damn about incurring Hera's wrath. As punishment for throwing him off a cliff because he was so ugly, he bound her to a magical chair and refused to undo her restraints until she issued him a formal apology!

For how badass Hermès was in this show, I really wished we got more of him especially fighting such a shame.

In the actual mythology Apollo beat Hermes in a race and ares in a boxing match, this show just made him weak asf for no reason
Reminder that Ares only loses to Athena in the mythos because Athens had all the scholars and writers and they were pissed that Sparta beat them in a war so they wrote their Goddess as being better than Sparta's God. Ares and Hades always get the short end of the stick in writings because they're easy targets to use as villains, despite Athen turning poor women into Gorgons and spiders, Zeus raping everything he sees, and the other Gods being just as bad if not worse than Hades and Ares
I agree with you, I don't like the modern concept that Hades (and often Ares) are portrayed as villains, although in fact this is not quite true. Hades is generally the most positive personage of the Greek Pantheon, he in fact will not offend a fly, has never challenged the power of his brother, has not been given to lust and cruelty like Zeus, Athena, Apollo and even Artemis, and Ares, he is just an obedient boy, does everything that his mother Hera tells him!

Ares was routinely defeated in Greek mythology. Herakles beat him, Diomedes injured him, the giants locked him in a jar for a while. It wasn’t just because Athenians hated Sparta, it was a recurring trope throughout the mythos.

It's funny as Mars was one of the 3 most worshiped gods in Rome and was beloved.

Good depiction of Ares...they indulge the whole "black-armored, intimidating warrior" thing we've seen in other media...but they also show that he has a mind for tactics (he IS a god of warfare, after all).
He waits, observes, and defends...and then strikes.
Later on, he cuts loose with a berserker rage.
I also enjoy the whole "family-drama" angle...Ares was a natural-born son of Zeus and Hera, right?
If anyone would ally themselves with Hera, it would be Ares...a son who is bitter that his father is consistently unfaithful.
It also explains the rivalry between Ares and both Apollo & Hermes...and Artemis, I suppose (she doesn't get much screen time).
Yet, these bastard siblings inherit their father's sense of justice (even if he lacks good sense)...and they are not malicious, and actually accept Heron when he visits Olympus, when all the other gods scoff at him.
Ares has only inherited his mother's anger & bitterness...so their are a lot of emotional strings to this tangled mess.

This is actually not a good depiction of Ares for one of the reasons you mentioned.
Yes, Ares is a god of warfare, but he is the god of violent and chaotic warfare. Athena is the goddess of strategic warfare. As such, Ares should not have a mind for tactics but should be charging into battle without so much as a second thought because that's what his dominion is all about.

But Ares has to be strategic in terms of fighting eye in eye with his opponent. He knows how to fight with every weapon. And just beacause Homer wrote Ares like a dump weakling it doesnt mean that whole Greek thought this. For example in Thrace and Sparta Ares was the most skilled fighter and the thrachiens even made him one of their patreons beside Artemis and Dionysos. Don't say that Ares fights with no strategy. He is bloodthirsty and brutal yes but he is also one of the best fighter. In an non athenian Story when Zeus first saw Ares he feared him and believed He would kill him one day. But Ares stayed always loyal.
The one thing you're forgetting about the relationship between Zeus and Hera is that THEY'RE BROTHER AND SISTER TOO! Kind of not surprising that Zeus doesn't want to remain faithful in a marriage of incest that he had to accept after defeating the titans.

Considering that Apollo and Hermes are described as having a close brotherly relationship in the myths, it makes sense, Apollo is the cool older brother who looks out for his younger siblings while Hermes is misfit middle child who tries to follow Apollo’s example in his own way.

I love how clearly you can see that the boys were fighting for sport and the parents are about to throw down for real. Even the audience gets nervous when Hera shows up.

I’m of the opinion that a god of war should one of the most powerful Olympians. The actual mythology disagrees with me, but this show doesn’t, so I like it.

For those who got interested in Greek Mythology after watching the show:
Ares is the god of war and violence, son of Zeus and Hera. He is in love with Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty and love. I believe that she’s the woman in the audience with purple hair.
Hermes is (obviously) known for being very fast, mishevious and clever. He’s the messenger of the gods, and the god of travel, theives, trade and much more. Son of Zeus and Maia.
Apollo is the god of the sun, healing, music, archery, poetry and much, much more. He has had both male and female lovers, but most of his lovers have been turned into plants or jumped off cliffs :/
He is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis, the moon goddess. She’s shown next to Aphrodite in the audience :)
If you have any questions I’ll gladly try and answer them, since I’m a big mythology nerd. Also, the myths vary alot so it’s hard to say exactly what’s right and wrong :))

Actually Ares was weak, the Greek did not consider him as the best, his Roman counterpart Mars kn the other hand was really strong. In Accient Greece Ares was perceives as the God of the violent war and Athena was the goddess of the strategically war. She kick Ares ass one time and also Apollo won against Ares as well.

Everyone's talking about how good-looking Apollo and Hermes are. But are completely ignoring Ares.
Ares was often described as being the most beautiful of all the male gods something he took a lot of pride in.
In some stores he was more of a pretty boy then even Apollo

That they used these three specific gods(Apollo, Hermes and Ares) for this arena scene made it confusing for a second. Because at first, it seemed like a reference to the myth of the Olympic games where Apollo defeated both Ares and Hermes. It's also strange that they'd have Apollo, the god of archery, who's signature attribute and weapon is the bow, fight using a sword with no arrows in sight.
In a matter of seconds those fierce warriors turned into cute little kids who put their head down and watch their toxic parents have at it.

Its nice to see them actually make Ares good at fighting. The actual stories usually depict him as not weak per say but as being outplayed or outfought a lot.

Yeah, what @@GoldenRose116 and @cat :3 said. That's just what happened. But his other main things are archery and healing. Then he is also the god of music, light, prophecy, healing, and plague. It'd be cool if they work in the plague aspect since we don't see it in media that often. Ironic how he's the god of medicine/healing but also the god of plauge/disease.

Probably one of my favorite depictions of Ares. He may not be the most powerful Olympian but he is still a ferocious and brutal fighter, and it does make sense for him to be stronger than Hermes and Apollo as they're only half Olympian while Ares is son of Zeus and Hera
If you look closely in the background when Apollo is waving you can see some of the gods there. You can see Posidon, Hephestus, Demeter, Dionysus, Aphodite, Athena, Artemis and even Hyacinthus if you pause in the right time.

Those 3 Goddesses are Hestia, Artemis and Aphrodite. The lavender haired, drop dead gorgeous one is Aphrodite. The youngest looking one with her moon theme tiara is Artemis. The middle age, golden blonde, mother figure with bronze jewelry is Demeter.
I don't get why Zeus would ever cheat on Hera she's godamnnn beautiful especially this version of her 😍.

They are. Only a god can harm or kill a god.the giants can kill gods because they are spawns from Kronos. Seraphim’s staff was only able to harm Hera because I actually belonged to Hades.

I’m glad Ares isn’t made to look weak here like so many other forms of media make him out to be but let’s be honest, Apollo would stand much more of a chance against him. Hermes not so much. But Apollo is just as fierce and as much a warrior in the mythology as Ares is, just like Artemis was just as virtuous and great a hunter as Athena was. And not to mention he is also the god of the Sun (sometimes just light) and healing. In the myths Apollo is actually involved in more battles than Ares, too. And WHERE is Apollo’s bow and arrow?!!
Accuracy would be him going berserk. Ares represents and feeds off the savagery of war. Athena represents wise tactics.
To be fair, Ares gets his ass kicked a LOT in Greek mythology. It’s a recurring theme that other gods, monsters, and even humans can defeat Ares.
I'm glad in this show they show who Ares truly is, a warrior and a powerful god.

I always found it interesting where their children align. Ares was loyal to his mother, being the first to grab his maul to challenge his dad.
While Hermes and Apollo were loyal to Zeus. Makes me wonder if we will see a battle for the throne in season 2

The reason why Zeus & Hera both equally despise Ares / Mars is because from each of their personal POV, they are irrefutably & Immaculately perfect and worthy of exaltation yet the one child that they had WITHIN wedlock, is all kinds of fucked up in the head. The reason for this is simple, he (Ares/Mars) is the living embodiment of their failures both as parents and as individuals because lets be honest : Ares is direct reflection of them at their worst and they don't like what they see, so they would rather shun it altogether then face that truth.
Zeus favors Athena so much because she is everything he wishes he was (minus the female part though). She's honorable, She's wise, She actually gives a fuck about the mortals and her own demigod siblings / relatives, and while she posesses her own negative vice (pride & envy) they don't crop up even half as much as her good side, hence why the common folk worshipped her with extensive EASE.
I can imagine how lonely it must have been for old Ares on Olympus, just being essentially ousted by literally everyone because you are not lying to yourself like everyone else is. You know you're fucked up, all types of fucked up, but at least you're honest about it. All he had was the Spartans (who called themselves “The Son's of Ares”) but thankfully hope was not lost as that eventually evolved and he found the Romans loved him too. But I digress.
Anyways, Ares may be the god of bloodlust, carnage, & savagery. But he's a doting father who cares for his children, a loyal lover who loves his women passionately, and an honest friend who truly cares.
Examples :
He straight up murked one of his demigod relatives (a cousin of his, this man was a Son of Poseidon) for raping one of his daughters.
He wed a human woman (Emphasis on WED. He actually married her for a time.) - Her name was Otrera - because of her ferocity and tenacity in the face of a severely female limiting patriarchal society. She bore him the first group of women that would eventually become the original legendary warrior women -> Amazons. And with his Human wife (Otrera) becoming the first Queen of the new All-Female Nation.
He fought alongside one of his sons and tried his best to protect the boy from Hercules's Wrath.(yes THAT Hercules) He ultimately failed at this because Athena swooped in and cucked him hard.
He transformed one of his daughters and her husband into snakes so they could avoid Zeus's wrath and had them carried to the Isles of the Blessed.
He saved Thanatos, the God of Death, from being enslaved by some asshat named Sisyphus (who - shocker - wasn't a sisy at all!).
And the best thing is that when the Trojan War broke out, he sided AGAINST all of greece to protect the humble city of Troy.
Ares / Mars is without a doubt the best Greco-Roman God ever.
