Kia EV9 - Ultra Luxury 6 seat EV Range Rover killer?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 бер 2024
- Until the ia EV9 arrived there weren't many 7 seat EV's out there, and your choices have been either something like a van or something only kids can sit in the back seats of. The KIA EV9 is the new flagship of the Kia range, a full size 6 or 7 seater electric SUV with size and style to match a Range Rover

An enormous electric car is not the answer.
Yes, it is about Range Rover size. Is it really needed, these days?
where I live there are some shallow rooted drains and with the soil makeup people have found huge cars like this just wreck the driveway and damage their drains so they park on the street. Doing so means the car is not in a secured garage overnight which pushes insurance premiums up - a couple of neighbours regretting their choices and the 3 year lease they have the car on. So I agree - not ideal.
Its the answer to getting sales. Unless thats what you were getting at, the customers are to blame.
@@GoldenCrocthey are not selling though. Less and less customers actually want them. So it’s more the governments fault for forcing an unwanted product on us all.
@@fugawiaus You are mistaken, they sell better than ever. Those are the statistics manufacturers care about. As they should, or they would go out of business. Also, "the government"? Are you talking about the U.K.? The UK market is an afterthought for this type of car (or any car, really). U.S. is its "home".
It Bings and bongs a lot 😅. It'll be even better if it was fitted with an Ice-cream van Jingle 🤣🤣!
Clearly designed for the US market, but I can see them being popular with the current SUV set here that like their cars this size to compensate for their personalities. I wouldn't be too surprised to see them in battenberg livery either. Would actually suit the design well, I think.
I agree. This would be a mid-size SUV in North America, and one of the most popular segments.
For reference, the Expedition Max would be a large one: 132" (3352mm) wheelbase, 222" (5640mm long), 80" (2032mm) wide, 76" (1930mm) tall , 5800lb (2631kg) curb weight.
The problem is yanks aren’t buying them. Their lots are filled with unsold EVs they can’t give away.
If a child gets hit by the thing, they've got no chance. They'll either go underneath it or get cracked open by the bonnet edge. Sorry Matt, that's just a design too far.
Yes, too large.
But I gather it has auto brakes. You do sit high too and that means you can see further. Many people these days are walking with mobile phones, ear pods and hoodies.
@@localreviewking134 I dont see how you can see further because you sit higher? Think about it, the geometry of that doesnt make any sense to me, unless its really hilly or we are talking about curvature of earth distances. I can only assume its more of a "feeling" of seeing further or its kind of worded improperly.
@@GoldenCroc Benefits of a Higher Seat:
Seeing over traffic: Being higher can help you see over stopped cars or slow-moving traffic ahead, which might improve your awareness of potential hazards.
Larger field of view: SUVs and trucks often have a larger windshield and higher seating position, offering a wider view of the road.
Drawbacks of a Higher Seat:
False sense of security: The increased view shouldn't lead to overconfidence. You still need to stay alert and focused on the road.
Blind spots: Larger vehicles can have bigger blind spots, especially on the sides and rear. It's crucial to adjust mirrors properly and check them regularly.
Rollover risk: SUVs and trucks have a higher center of gravity, making them more prone to rollovers in certain situations like sharp turns or evasive maneuvers.
However, these days larger cars can have certain safety features like auto braking or blind spot mirrors, lane indicator alerts and so on.
@@localreviewking134 Yep, as you can see, it falls in the "worded improperly" and "feeling" I talk about in my post above. The higher seat height doesnt allow one to see further per se for any reasonable distances, its more about looking over lower cars when those are in front of you and "feeling" more elevated.
Which is fine, but it only works when not everyone has similar sized vehicles... At which point you have to get a taller vehicle again. its an arms race, effectively, and one can easily be seen at least in US traffic.
@@GoldenCroc Generally you can see far if tall. I think you are not considering that traffic is a mix of tall trucks, low sport cars SUV etc. Having driven low and tall cars, do you suggest a perfect height? Not sure what exactly your point is, but being low is less safe in most cases.
i am not the biggest fan, but this is what consumers, certainly US ones, want. As a manufacturer, you would be a fool not to build it. Hate the game, not the player.
On another note, this uses a siimilar-ish styling language to mid 2000s Cadillac to my eyes.
The dealers can’t give them away in the US. The dealers wrote to Biden demanding him to stop with the forcing of EVs.
The manufacturers (ford,gm) are closing ev plants and have lost billions.
Most of the ev sales in the US were to rental companies who have pulled out of EVs. This led to Tesla dropping the new price lower than 2nd hand which devalued the 2nd hand market even more. Polestar lost almost all their sales due to rental cancellations which led to the company being valued at a dollar.
EVs don’t work in large nations like the US and Australia due to the vast distances and crappy range.
An estate car with a bench seat in the front would carry 6 with loads of luggage space.
Buick Roadmaster wagon
Exactly this
Not in armchair comfort though.
Cars with 3 seats in the front haven't been that popular in this country, I don't know why, I can only think of the Fiat Multipla and Honda FRV both being 6 seaters
@@tonys1636This. I've got a Peugeot Expert with 3 seats across the front, and on more than one occasion I've had to do a fairly long drive while pressed up against the window, almost unable to reach the gearlever, due to "generously sized" passengers.
3190kg... So if you fill it up with enough full sized adults, obese children and their adventurous sports utility lifestyle gear you can put yourself over the 3.5 tonne weight limit... What a feature
3.5 but not a V8!
It's everything you need to hate about being dragged into an EV world; grotesquely heavy and grotesque over-use of materials, including 21" tyres and 500kg of batteries, all in the name of being "ecologically-sound".
Do occupants count towards the weight limit?
@@lolroflpmsl yes. If the gross weight of the vehicle exceeds 3500kg it may not be driven on the road unless the driver has a C1 or C category license
@@Paradox0182 that seems like a massive design fuck up seeing how many porkers we have in this country
My VW Sharan has similar space and one more seat, and weighs little more than half of this elephant's weight.
Yes!! Our 1997 Ford Galaxy had nearly all the features this has nearly 30 years ago!
Sometimes it's worth seeing some monstrosity, to give more value to the beauty of elegance and simplicity. 😉
Cars of the 60's 70's 80's and 90's.
Makes a Suzuki Jimny look like a handy gem!
Nah it looks ugly enough on screen, I’ll pass on seeing it in person.
It's surely not that clever to have lots of space in a car when it's over 5m long.....and 3.1 tons!! I'm really not sure that this is right direction for sustainable transport! It does demonstrate how Kia have really moved on as a manufacturer though.
Apparently it is quite tricky as many fail at it!
Probably sell like hot cakes in the US especially in California. Can't see them shifting many units in the UK though.
at 3190kgs Kia have lost the plot.
too big, too expensive, too heavy
Disagree, as compared to others it isnt anything special, weight wise. 3190kg is a spec flub seemingly, thats the max weight.
Just what our battered, crumbling, British roads need. Sigh.
Lane departure is dangerous. My BMW very nearly put me in a ditch because the Lane departure couldn't be turned off and it read wear in the tarmac, on a wet day, as white lines. Fortunately BMW now allows you to turn it off permanently
I wonder if they made that change after someone was pitched into a ditch?
What BMW didnt allow it to be turned off? Surely you mean it was possible to turn it off, but you had to do it every time you start the car?
@AWMJoeyjoejoe even when the when it was 'off' it was still functioning. Eventually the cluster and control box was replaced
That constant beeping would drive me straight to the nearest pub where the car would remain and a cab back. Non passive lane assist should be easy to turn off in UK as 90% of roads are rural and narrow. They missed a trick, instead of sunroofs should have installed solar panels, it can then be charging whilst parked and moving, on a sunny day at least. One day bonnets, boots and roofs will be.
Dont know if you are joking with the solar panels, but in case not: Its not worth the effort to install roof solar panels, they give very little energy compared to whats used.
There seems to be a misconception about the weight. The maximum gross weight, which means the car plus occupants and luggage is 3240 kg, but the emtpy weight is 2564 kg. Still a monstrously heavy car, but in no way a threat to your driving license or insurance as it's still below the threshold of 3500 kg.
That makes a lot more sense. The idea that this thing weighs 3190kg seemed plausible given the upward trend in vehicle weights but would be reckless if true.
Does the empty weight include the weight of the battery?
Edit: I did a bit of looking, the Internet says the F-150 lightning EV has a curb weight of about 2950kg and I'm pretty sure it's a fair bit bigger than this so I'm now not sure what the 3190kg figure refers to exactly for the Kia
@@Paradox0182 I've been looking at Dutch registrations of Kia EV9 for both RWD and AWD versions, they have a kerb weight of 2401 and 2564 kg respectively, max weight 3070 and 3240 kg respectively. About the same as a campervan.
@@volvo480 I wonder where the 3190kg figure comes from. Maybe someone's added the battery weight twice
@@Paradox0182 Its surely with passangers and cargo. i.e max allowed weight from manufacturer. All cars have this number. The 50kg differnce is most likely just regional/equipment difference.
@@GoldenCroc it's the gross vehicle weight in Dutch (EU) registration. The point I'm trying to make is that, though the car is still monstrously heavy, you don't need a truck driving license to move it around. It has the same weight as a campervan (and almost the size of it, too!)
Peugeot started wrapping the door bottoms around the sills on its crossovers when they introduced the second generation 3008.
I must say it does keep your trousers clean in inclement weather.
Kia certainly in recent years have dared to be different with their styling, particularly in their EV range.
I don't think I've seen a car so universally panned on your channel. I don't mind the styling personally but it's kia's expectation that people buy vehicles like this to support their lifestyle when we all know these 3-tonne SUVs are just going to clog up B-roads, dazzling oncoming cars because the lights are too high, nobody can pass them because you can't see past the massive monolith to do an overtake safely & given how many people I see in smaller SUVs driving over into the other side of the road because they have no idea how wide the car is, that's only going to be more dangerous. This car is precisely why I think Ulez & VED should be based on kerb weight because I can see thousands of these being leased or given out on Motability & just causing utter bedlam for everybody around them.
I'm all for EVs but I feel that there has to be a bigger push for smaller, more efficient, better packaged cars. I know I'm going to have people replying to this saying that you need a big car if you have a family (incidentally my brother & I grew up in the back of a Mitsubishi Carisma followed by a Rover 75 & Citroen BX) & I think that's nonsense on several grounds, chiefly that you aren't carting kids around every time you're in the car & a standard five-door hatch will do the job just as well as it has done for my dad & countless others 15+ years ago.
Kia EV9, big, unnecessary, selfish, heavy, bloated & monolithic. Clogging up roads near you
What's happening with your XJ40
@@paulie-Gualtieri. I'm wanting to get the bodywork sorted so that's all on the cards at the moment
You are correct, but this is what customers want. Especially US ones.
Cars aren't "given out" on Motability.
@@glynjones2540 I know they aren't literally given out but they tend to offer more SUVs than anything else
That thing would “do my head in” . I don’t see how any car that weighs over 3 tons! can possibly be “green” . I was going to say it would make a good airport taxi, but you’ll make people late for the plane, because you’d be charging the damn thing . Thanks Matt you do bring us a variety of cars 🙂
Autocar road tested this car, their example they weighed at 2660kgs, I noticed in their road test the twin motor model does do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, but the rear drive single motor model the 0-60 is 9.3 seconds, quite a big difference
Who needs to get to 60 in 5 seconds, lucky to even reach 30 in many places.
@tonys1636 a lot of these supposed family cars are getting too quick, it will lead to accidents because of owners inexperience with driving cars this powerful
@@tonys1636 Americans, thats who. They love their power.
Totally pointless, a massive , brick shaped suv, that’s electric, so it’s heavy and not very aerodynamic, the exact opposite of what an EV should be, , but no….they keep building them bigger, and then putting even bigger batteries in them, to,keep the range. It’s not the future, never will be, totally ridiculous 😕
An excellent review as always, too many driver aids like lane departure warning that would put me off and try to remember to turn off every time, like the idea of the average speed check on the HUD.
Hello from down under, am not a big fan of SUV,s myself Matt, mainly as I don't require one, but got to say the Koreans have nailed the styling on this one, from the comments might be only you and me who agree on this lol.
Funny thing is it doesn't look so good in pictures as it does in real life, I dont like SUVs but this has spume good styling
This thing will be popular in Oz no doubt about it. Kia is storming sales at the moment.
in normal mode the regenerative braking uses the 2 motors, in eco only one motor is used.
that makes sense then
Nice honest balanced review. Ive only ever owned 90's cars so being told the heater control are on buttons is somewhat of a novelty. Smashing work Sir
Did u use the tea shelf?
And all 6 cup holders
On cars this wide how can lane keeping assist be safe on A and B roads, I'd like to see you test drive it in Lake District where there's stone walls on either side of the road, would the car effectively crash you?
its not, it tried to fling me off a single track road down a steep drop several times when it was confused by the broken edge
@@furiousdriving Ncap mandatory safety feature lol
@furiousdriving I really liked your test of the car, but when you were reviewing the interior I struggled to see it doing anything a Volvo XC90 can't do, I think the Volvo is about 6 inches shorter, also all that space under the bonnet, I don't think an electric motor takes up that much room, too have such a tiny storage space, and that safety button if someone gets trapped inside is hilarious, imagine this as a diesel, say about 2.5 litres 4 cylinder, it would probably be nearly a tonne lighter, and be a lot more usable
Hope that the bods responsible for C&U regs discover this the hard way.
@@tug1345 It's the control units, rectifiers, transformers and cooling units that take up the space.
This is why our roads are being wrecked, the unnecessary size and weight of that fugly thing.
Not a big EV fan but this was interesting. The EV I am looking forward to is the Dacia Spring!
Mile and a half boot space with seats down. I can believe that. 😳😊
It's wheelbase is longer than the original Mini
Hur går det med dig, Matt? 😁👍
Looks like a Fiat multipla Not for me I don't like SUV's or EV's
Don't insult the bold and innovative Multipla with a comparison to this typical modern behemoth.
I like EVs, they make great kids toys, golf carts, and indoor forklifts.
Value for money this thing is hard to beat. Those annoying pings would really great after a very short time though unless you spend a some time switching them off before each drive. My sister has a Cupra that pings a lot and that bugs her too but she can't be bothered to go through the menu settings for every single drive. Lot's of great design touches inside and out make this a very attractive purchase if you have can justify the price. I'll keep an eye out on the used/ex demo market and see how the residuals work. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting review. Looks nice apart from the bonging, should be very reliable.
Not this car but I wanted to buy a Kia Sportage as its looks the bollocks and the interior especially the dash is great. 6 month plus waiting list in Australia so bought a Tucson instead which is the same platform.
I like the styling! Lower front grill is kinda new MINI like. And in total, the exterior reminds me of the F60 Countryman, including the Island blue colour.
Frunk emergency button is for kids. You have to admit it beats hearing: "are we there yet" every 10 miles ;P
Also 285 tyres? That's nearly the same as my fronts!
Can't watch this
I know what you mean Walnuts, it's sickening.
Great review, Matt. A nice, balanced look at all the EV9's features and quirks. I have to say that Kia has some really strong design talent, especially when it comes to blocky-looking cars. The original Soul is the sort of car that I wanted to dislike, just because of what it was, but I had to admit that it looked quite good. I feel the same about this. Yes, it's a bit odd, but it does seem quite well-proportioned, it's interesting and I love that colour. The interior looks amazing, I'd almost want to do something naughty in order to see the dashboard back-lighting go into "red alert" mode. However, it suffers from some of my new car bugbears; the incessant bongs and the lane departure warning. I can't help wondering if it might be better if the EV9 were a little smaller and lighter; particularly with a bit less frontal area to push through the air at speed? As you sort of hinted, I think the EV9 is best suited to being a luxury, private hire minicab.
Is it just me or is society relying more and more on electrical components in our vehicles? Yes, gadgets provide convenience, but it’s also something else that can go wrong. Take the door handles for example. Could that be easily maintained? All for something that is there to make it aesthetically pleasing? Give me an older car anyway of the week. At least I have the opportunity to fix it myself if something goes wrong
I’ve seen one of these in the metal and it’s ridiculously big. Way too big for Europe. Imagine one of these barrelling towards you on a B road. If this were a genuinely well packaged and innovative vehicle it wouldn’t be such a monster, it’s such a shame that though they no longer have to accommodate an engine and drivetrain and can position the motors in the axles and the batteries anywhere car designers are only coming up with ever larger versions of existing car templates.
It’s not too big it’s as big as a Range Rover and it gives all 6 people inside some space to breathe and not be packed in like sardines
@@bmwman1981Range Rovers are too big too, this isn’t a new phenomenon. With a little bit of skill and creativity such as that employed when designing the original Mini we could have vehicles that can transport 6 people in comfort with a much smaller footprint. This is just lazy.
I have to drive down narrow rural roads quite a lot, and I'm often faced with oncoming vans, minibuses and small lorries, so I don't see how this would be any different. Ignoring any argument about whether a Kia EV9 driver really needs a vehicle that big, because that's not relevant when I'm pulling into a field entrance or passing place to let something past.
This might be big, but it's hardly going to be the biggest thing on the road.
Give me gear a gear knob and just the basics,no stress at all.that Kia would stress me out no end😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😱😱😱😱😱😱
Great review, probably great for the North American market but I can't see them selling many in the UK, it's longer than a standard Transit van, it's priced as a premium car but I don't think the average person that buys that sort of car will pay that much, they will want a Audi, BMW, Merc or JLR badge even though this might be a better car.....we'll see I suppose.
Unfortunately a lot of the bings and bongs are just standard on all cars, not even because of regulations necessarily but because companies want a full 5-star NCAP score, albeit the speed limit one is a regulation. Some cars luckily make this stuff easier to turn off than others, others don't let you turn anything off.
So the advertised range is not exactly the range you get, false advertising then. How much would it cost to change the special tyres it would need, if there's a problem with the batteries, how much would it cost to repair/replace them?
You don’t have to fit the tyres that it came with you can fit whatever tyres you want to
@@bmwman1981 But they are still more expensive than ICE cars.
@@DavidPeacock1972 you can still get mid range and budgets in 19-20-21 inch tyres
@@bmwman1981Can you please provide prices for these EV tyres?
Whatever reservation you have, surely people must realise range possibly being lower isnt one of them, its exactly the same for every car, EV or ICE? I.e. it depends on driving pattern.
What a ridiculous oaf of a vehicle
Well, I watched the whole review and it seems many of the comments are by people who weren't listening!
Maybe it does look better in the metal, not a big fan of SUVs, but if I had to have one I would choose the Alfa Stelvio as it doesn’t look like a house brick on wheels.
This behemoth is the complete opposite of environmental friendliness and eco awareness. I know many young families and not one of them could afford this thing and they are the ones who need this space! I think Amis and Honda Es are fab for cities and that makes sense but we don’t need these lumbering huge SUVs. I dread to think of the tyre wear and cost of those and after the cases of batteries costing over $60k on Ioniq5s in Canada can you imagine how much a battery would be on this? That screen is ridiculous and those chimes would stop me driving it and a simple bump in it would result in £1000s in repairs thanks to all the ADAS cameras, radars etc which will need costly calibration - working in crash damage repair engineering opens your eyes to the sheer cost of it all and vehicles like this are pushing our premiums up at an alarming rate unfortunately.
A great review as always Matt but a very unappealing car. It makes your fabulous P6 look like a Metro.
Foul thing
SUV - Supplement Ur Vanity
You often talk about driving something completely different - I think this fits the bill, but I am wondering just how many of these Kia expects to sell per year?
See John Cadogan for a scathing review of the environmental cost of the gigantic bus. The depreciation on the thing would be catastrophic for any normal person. A good review from a different perspective.
£70k, or there abouts, though 😲!
Great review still not convinced though, I still think this is hideous, far too big and the amount of resources needed to make the battery alone seems to go against the idea that EV's are going to save the planet. Still the ludicrous price means we won't see many. These modern cars with all the bleeps and bongs, I'm dreading when I have to change my car because even modest forms of transport have the evil lane (un)assist.
What’s the drag coefficient of the front lol. As others have eluded to, mass size is not the answer to the “future” of EV’s!
I hate SUVs but because it's you...
Personally find this hideous in so many ways, weight is outrageously high. Safety measures included in our infrastructure are not designed for the impact this will impart, parking structures ditto, size is unsuitable for much of the UK road network, and my final point ( but not the end of the list by far) this is saving the planet how? A complete waste of raw materials and exploitation of the planet. Have you seen the lithium mining industry? Yeah, a hard pass from me.
Grotesque , characterless, ridiculously expensive and totally not the way personal transport should be going . I have seen them in the flesh and did not think it looked any better. I will stick with my 25 year old Merc Estate thanks.
Stone me Kia what the hell where you smoking when you built that. Those beeps would make me take a sledge hammer to it, as for driver assist stuff NO, the drivers supposed to be in charge not the car, All this stuff is why despite having the means I wouldn`t want a new car going forward
Is this what "saving the planet" has come to? Absolute lunacy.
Lo Matt, I think that beastie you are driving is really for a niche market. Don't think i will ever have a need for one.Repairs ,service has to be expensive. Thanks for the video but i'll stick to my 21 years old Daily. Later 🤫
I think freedom of choice is the most important aspect. Its pig ugly, but thats the route modern car design has gone down. The days of the Sierra or Mondeo are just gone. What I do hope though, is that any road tax that is applied to, this fits the extra wear that is caused to the road, and owners take heed of weight limits in car parks or out the way roads. I also hope car park (multi-story, in particular) design has enough safety margin to accommodate vehicles of this mass.
If only road tax went to fixing the roads.
junk
Bang on. Plastic crap
The concept is great but with 1 Big Caveat...its an EV and the range is short for a vehicle that could theoretically cover long distances in supreme comfort for driver and passengers!!
99% of them will do city schoolruns and little else... Such is the reality. So it suits its intended purpose well.
Jesus the weight !
It really looks hideous
I think this is exactly what EVs should not be. Too wide and too heavy. The chances of killing others on the road with this ridiculous machine is plainly too high. The amount of charge that thing wants is so high that its use will only deprive others at the charging station. How wrong cars are going these days, just more CO2 and more rare materials that could be used in a far more useful way.. Sorry...good review.
I forgot to say it will also smash the roads up as well...
Forget about driving that vehicle in the Philippines Manila, road markings ridiculous,it would bing like mad😡😡😡😡😡😡
Clearly aimed at the wealthier end of the family market so not a car I would ever consider. No offspring Guv. I know I would hate it even if I was in that "target market". Big car that doesn't fit our roads or parking spaces.
Akin to 30 stone Dave taking up pot holing. Not your natural environment mate.
I suspect the "SUV" thing stems from our adoration of North American TV shows, where everything is 5XL. We have a little island with narrow roads people. Narrow cars are beautiful. Own it. You know it makes sense.😉
Like for the review. Not for the car 😀
This is a car review. There's a lot of 'I'm too poor/stubborn to consider this car'.

Electric Vehicles doesn't work for North America due to our huge vast distance
only for urban use, not for inter-city in the US really
Being 196cm and streamlined forward this is a car for me and my fully grown family!
Basically the same size as Q7, Range Rover etc and they have 2 fewer seats. People will buy oversized SUVs so they might as well be ZEVs.
Put a V8 in it and I might buy it.
Purely on styling alone. This is the way it's going. The new Picanto is looking similar. Personally it's delving into transhumanism and I don't like it. Don't get me on electric. ;-/
Sorry, too big, too heavy and far too expensive. Why do we need a bloody great truck that does 0 - 60 as fast as a Porsche? Manufacturers also need to give much more accurate range figures. It looks very Judge Dredd which is cool. Otherwise, no thnak you.
Thanks Matt for an honest review of this huge people carrier! I don't plan to buy one as my family have grown up but it is interesting to see what car manufacturers are doing these days.
I do think its good to be open minded and see whats going on with all aspects of the car world
@@furiousdriving There is being open minded, and being open minded enought to see the technology is not there yet. Broken down chargers, having to wait over an hour for a charge, if it is a fast charge station that is actually working. expwnsive to service, expensive tyres that are made specially for EV's batteries that can easliy malfunction. I'll stick to 5 minutes and you'rew on your way with an ICE car.

£77k for something that keeps beeping, For that price I'd want a Cabin Crew and a Pilot thrown in.
I do like Kia and like EV's (I own one) but this is ridiculous.
Too big, too many gimmicks and far too expensive.
You could just imagine telling people that you spent £77k on a Kia when you can buy a Tesla long range cheaper which is also far more efficient with battery range.
I can't see Kia selling many of these but I am open to being proven wrong.
3190 kgs, it's useless for anyone with a normal driving licence, only 310 kgs of payload is rubbish, so many of these are going to be driven around and their owners probably won't know they've voided their driving licence so in effect voided their insurance
I think that weight is max allowable spec, somebody flubbed it.
Its bad enough we are constantly bombarded by range lying EV car ads in all formats. I come to this channel for an escape from that.
If only Kia bought the Ray to our market
Ngl, I'd say that'd be much more appropriate for our roads than this, which quite honestly, should just be left for the American w**kpanzer set to love and go nuts about
Its enormous and how much will cost to replace the battery and those beeps and bongs would absolutely drive me bonkers and its electric also it will deprecate faster than it can go also its a pointless vehicle rathe have a Toyota Vellfire or Alphard much nicer inside and the top spec model does have the leg rest for the front passenger and tge second row two seats are much nicer and real keather after all they are the best people movers ever only beaten by the Lexus LMs

Absolutely fantastic vehicle. It's a bit big for me, but maybe the EV5 will be as good
Get this EV propaganda off this channel. Nuff said.
Get yourself out of the comments section granddad time for a replacement tin foil hat.
Testing a car = propaganda? I think you may just have let your bias/dislike cloud your judgement a bit, surely you realise this isnt any different than others cars shown here.
I like the size and the outside styling but it's a bit cheap looking inside. I'd buy one if it came with a diesel engine.
7:22 Constantly binging...... welcome to EU directives that mean every car user is a moron and needs their bum wiping because they can't do it themselves!!! Have it at work with automatics, bings to tell you it's not in P (Park)..... I know I'm putting it on the ramp so need to able to move the car backwards or forwards to get the arms under!!! 🤦🤦🤦🤦
Cars have been binging for decades, the US and Japan were at it before Europe.
I thought Britain has left the EU, why are you still blaming them?
@volvo480 I have suspicions that Boris didn't take us out the EU in the best way for the UK, Europe still seem to have way too many powers over us , we may aswell have stayed in
@@tug1345 Lol, the thought that a global car manufacturer would make cars that don’t bong for one little island if only Boris Johnson had asked them to 😂
@@windymiller5058 Electrical items like that can be turned off by the manufacturer fairly easily, and equipment like that can easily be made market specific, so yeah lots of laughs, it will just take a major crash for changes to happen as usual

Yipee I'm 3rd today 😊
The thing is for it's price you could buy B.M.W or Merc .
The closest Mercs are the EQE and EQS starting at £77k and 107k, so it does undercut them
It's horrid, hideous and unnecessary. Sorry.
Bloated and ugly: yet, it'll probably sell because manufacturers continue to build these monstrosities, due to a stupid, utterly selfish popular demand for big SUVs.
Did he just say this car has rizz ???
I see the Luddites are out in force. EV’s are here to stay and very good indeed if bought for specific tasks. They have limitations though particularly with kerb weight and range. The two previous points are related. Charging is a real issue with the costs extortionate if you can find a working one. I charge at home off peak in my garage which works for me.
Luddites? So one is a Luddite when the technology is not ready? I thought Luddite meant that one is not ready for the technology? Please use words carefully before trying to be an evangelist.
@@DavidPeacock1972 The technology works very well with limitations and I have driven EV’s now for ten years, they are fantastic vehicles. I am with James May who is capable of balanced reviews on the pros and cons and like myself is not an evangelist but takes a practical view on how they perform in the real world. My electricity bill for 240 miles of driving around £5. Free if charged at work.
Luddites??
It doesn’t do it advertised range .
I don’t want to hang about for an hour while I wait on it charging , assuming I can find a working charger .
It weighs 3 tons .
It’s utterly hideous.
Little children have mined the lithium for the batteries .
When the wind doesn’t blow the electricity is produced using fossil fuels .
It’s ridiculously expensive .
Insurance is too expensive .
It will be worth 30% of its value in 3 years .
Sorry I have to stop typing now my finger is sore , I may come back on later with more reasons why this car is only for virtue signalling wokists .
This comment won’t age well.
I don't think you understand what the complaint is. It's too heavy, too big & too expensive. I believe electric vehicles have a place & as soon as the charging infrastructure gets to the point where it challenges ICE cars & the gulf between claimed & actual range narrows across the board, then that solidifies what I believe but as it stands, not everybody has the ability to charge at home & I can't think of many people who need a three-tonne SUV to do a commute or nip to the shops. It just takes up too much space on the road & in carparks
