Those are really the reasons why the Ace Combat games were AND still are great in general. Seeing Chopper crash again almost brought me to tears. When i first saw this, i literally shed tears. When PJ got killed it was the same and i thought Shamrock was dead aswell until i saw the endgame cutscenes. I surely hope AC7 lives up to the Ace Combat level of storytelling, epicness and emotions.
my absolute ace combat is zero. the game truly made you feel unstoppable. it felt so awesome being called the demon lord of the round table and I loved how the game recognises and builds on your reputation mid battle with enemies saying "It's him! the demon lord!" ect. my absolute favourite moment how ever is from ac5: mission ACES, the intro. I love how all your comrades start singing the song and then the Yuko's come in with their AWACS, " LA LA LA LA. LISTEN TO OUR BEAUTIFUL VOICE." I could not stop laughing. like you said earlier, a lot of modern games lack the soul ace combat had. I only hope ac7 brings that quality back into the franchise. I have been craving a good military flight simulator since hawx and am yet to find one I loved as ace combat zero: the belkan war.
I absolutely agree, zero is my favourite for a lot of the reasons you described. as for favourite moment, theres a lot (10+) that i could be happy awarding the title, but if i absolutely had to pick, it would be the final showdown between mobius (squadron for the 18th mission) and yellow squadron, AWACS building it up, to arguably the best track in the franchise, megalith starting to play, to the absolute fear in the yellow squadrons comms when they see youre not just a solo ribbon anymore but an entire squadron. it really is just pure soul in these games. Project aces just announced that theyre delaying AC7 till 2018 but that doesnt bother me, they can take as long as they want if they can deliver something of the calibre of the old numbered games.
eldestsucubus AWACS was one of the best things about ace combat 5 and zero (ones I've managed to play). it really added to the mood of the battle. My favourite line would be from Zero. "We've completed analysis of the plane codename Morgan. Cipher take down Morgan! You're the only one who can stop him. Demon Lord of the Round Table, I pray for your success." Hearing that made me feel absolutely over the fucking moon. I truly felt like I had to be successful and that there was something on the line. The music during the fight was absolutely superb and felt like me and Pixy, the lords of the sky, true aces, were in a dance of death with each other, and having it so you had to kill him from the front was genius. after that fight I felt like I truly won.
Only after watching this 7 times and looking at other fan vids do I realise how much I love ace combat and how badly I want 7. Another thing I loved was how they blended things like massive ships and railguns so seamlessly into the story, it is believable. As a child I thought it was based on history.
Ace Combat Zero was the first Ace Combat game I fully committed and finished. But it resonated with me so much that everytime I play another title of the series I always play like I’m still the Demonlord of the Round table back to reclaim my throne in the skies.
Wow.... the memories are flooding back. What triggered the most out of all was when I witnessed ADFX 1 morgan staring at me while Larry saying his best, memorable quote. "Have you found a reason to fight yet?..... buddy" though the most memorable quote is "yo buddy, still alive?" What makes this my favourite franchise is the diverse story each game has. Like, each game has a connection to the other for example the ulysses asteroids or the Günther company that made the adfx 1 I believe and the fact that they took the data and parts of it in the crash site after the duel between Cipher and Pixy. I played that game when I was just 10 years old. Ace combat zero and 5 was my very very first game I played from the the time I can remember and I never knew the lore or even the story behind them two until I turned 15 years old. I went back and played them and oh my god I was touched. It is this franchise that has the most memorable story ever and that is why I love Ace combat. My whole life was tied into this franchise from the very beginning as I grew up with it and I am soo happy that ace combat zero was my first game I played ever. From there now I have a ps3, ps4 and still have my ps2 with the discs of AC zero and 5. Before I play AC 7, Im gonna go play ace combat 2,3,4,5,X,infinity, assault horizon and watch the gameplay of ac 6 all over again for nostalgic purposes. God, I am 16 and I feel old haha

Mawchy i always remembered it looking fantastic but every time i replay it im still blown away at how an early 07 360 game could look so gorgeous. not only that, the sound design matches the graphics, a good 7.1 surround system (or even comparable headphones) is absolutely awesome. the chandelier firing in particular is just something else. this video does neither the sound or visual quality true justice.
Do remember that AC6 released in October of '07, same year as and one month before Crysis. The late 2000's were pretty much where the gaming industry's graphical prowess took off from its old, blurry and muddy PS2 and blockier PS1 and equivalents, and started matching movies in just how beautiful they are. No less amazing because of it though - a game approaching its 10 year anniversary looking - and sounding! - just as glorious as it did when it launched is no easy feat, particularly when other games from its time have started to look rather dated. Show someone THIS ocremix.org/files/images/games/xb360/6/ace-combat-6-fires-of-liberation-xb360-ingame-58264.jpg and they'd probably think it came out in 2012 as opposed to literally being 10 years old. Also has my favourite gameplay of the series, if just because of how incredibly massive the maps and sense of speed were. AC6 was truly unique in mission design, instead of hammering one or two particular spots on the map or shooting one ace, you were desperately zipping across the map in an attempt to manage the entire battle at once, even the Allied Attack order could only help alleviate a tiny bit of pressure from something as tense and massive as Liberation of Gracemeria or Heavy Command Cruiser. Enough was going on that even a skilled player could quickly find themselves failing operations, even some they'd been helping out throughout the mission, just for getting caught up in some other ops.. then being forced to continue on, even after losing valuable EW support or fighter squadrons due to poor decision making. Truly beautiful how a game this old, made only a couple years into the 360's life cycle, could be so amazing that games made today fail to come close in sheer scale. Here's hoping AC7 remembers to have a giant battle between entire armies, at least once.
hit the nail on the head, 07 was a really good year for games, graphically speaking in particular. people really wanted to push boundaries, and many game did. unfortunately people realised they could get away with far less effort not long after and things stagnated a bit, but i have good faith in project aces to deliver something special. on top of that, sony and the 1st/3rd party devs have been absolutely *killing* it this year, and sony is supporting those AA mid budget games (which are usually the best games by far) something hard. im having ps2 era levels of fun on the ps4 as of recent. regarding AC6's gameplay, i pretty much agree, gameplay wise i also found it the best in the series, unfortunately the story was the drawback, which is why i rate 0 as my personal favorite, since it also had really good gameplay and a fantastic story. I get the feeling PA really want to knock it out of the park with AC7 and i honestly think they will.
To be honest, AC6 is one of only a handful of games from the 7th generation of consoles that actually ever looked great and still hold up today. Most games from that time look pretty awful. But the PS1 and PS2 games still look good too. AC has always had great visuals and sound design.
Man this video hit me right in the nostalgia, Ace combat series is one of the best franchise I ever play I replay the series almost every year specially the PS2 area and I'm gonna do it this year before Ace 7. For me : 1.ACE Z hands down for The best in the series so far (There something special about Zero story ,graphic ,OST and gameplay) 2.ACE 4 (The art and story are unique, But some mission need to wait the time to finish happen a lot) 3.ACE 5 (I like a lot in this game ,But there are some mission are just annoy to play with ) Ace 1,2 and 3 are good and psp & 3ds games too. pretty similar to my rankings. honestly if you ever come across a cheapo 360 id just about say its worth buying just to play 6, 6 has serious story/dialogue issues but the gameplay side (and ingame story, retaking gracemeria) was quite good. the gameplay even rivals zeroes for how good it played. and it looks absolutely beautiful, even now. on the other hand, the cutscene story and dialogue is even more ham fisted than 5, which is pretty crazy.

Ace Combat Zero is the best game in my opinion , right after Final Fantasy XII , Zero felt really good while playing it ; the music , sound effects , voices , hard game mechanics when facing 10+ enemies that are in the same squad. Everything in it was absolutely amazing , my favourite planes were Typhoon and Wyvern(sorry forgot the rest of the name)

I can give you a verbal reason why I think people love the franchise. Simply put, "storytelling with new world history". Our world while the same from a biological stand point, introduces a whole other concept of reality, new and interesting countries, with a nearly infinite amount of lore to sink our teeth into, and war stories being always told from the perspective of some of the most elite and somewhat secretive groups of people on the planet. The fighter pilot. However unlike your standard FPS's where you fight wave after wave of generic enemies generally eliminating a battalion sized force on your own with little to no recognition from allies. However in ace combat you get praised by both allies AND enemies and really FEEL like a badass superhuman pilot. Where Friendly NPC's will be shocked and actually respond to your actions and ability and shower you with accolades. Enemies will somewhat do the same things which is weird that you can hear the enemies' radio chatter where they'll often give you battlefield nicknames Galm 1: the demon lord of the round table Gryphus 1: the southern cross or "nemesis" Wardog squadron: the demons of Razgriz/ the ghosts of Razgriz/ the 4 wings of sand island etc Mobius 1: the ribbon Bone arrow 4/1: the Reaper Etc Plus the new and super weapons that these countries make that only you can destroy AC0: Excalibur, Morgan, the heavy command cruiser AC5: the SOLG AC4: Megalith and Stonehenge AC6: the Chandiler and Aigaion "Moby Dick" AC7: The Arsenal Bird And that's not even counting the numerous elite fighter squadrons you face down in all of them. Amazing stories, Amazing characters, Amazing world building, and Amazing character development. So much more to explain that I can't possibly type it all out without missing something important. Strangereal is just a fantastic universe to get involved in.

Unhorsedbog6 The nuclear holocaust in Zero was the first time I really ever felt truly scared while playing a videogame. That's extremely crazy because I played the games in order of their release so I knew exactly what was going to happen on top of that I really started tp see how the developers loosely weaved history into the franchise (those submarine aircraft carriers in AC5 come to mind can't spell their names)... They twisted a lot of things up so they could rightfully call it their own fiction. It's kinda crazy how the virtual fighter jets I was flying on the PS back in '96 (back when it was called "Air Combat") are real today F-22 and F-35 are operational today while the X-02 is still a distant concept and a few others seem to be straight up fantasy aircraft... But that's exactly what my parents thought about those jets at the time.
Stage of apocalypse in zero was legit unsettling. how the music just stops and cuts to an eerie low white noise/ambient sort of thing, comms going haywire, the air before the explosion is clear with good visibility. then you see a huge glowing light to the east, the air becomes incredibly murky, the hud is spazzing out, people are freaking out over comms. one of my favourite moments in videogames. it was incredibly well done.
As far as I can remember I just split the audio track from the video of ac4s ending and overlaid the ac6 footage. Maybe the elgato gets decent recordings from a BC ps3

Alright, so everyone hates AH. I am not sure why cause I dont remember whether I played it or not. If it was the one that started off in a helicopter then I remember returning it the day after I bought it, but I only have a PC now and it is my only option for the series. Infinity itself looked alright, but the gameplay model was cancer. 6 looked the best though, even 10 years later it looks A+ come to think of it, ace combat zero still looks fantastic for a PS2 game

it removed strangereal as a setting, added an on rails, scripted to hell and back DFM which was absolute rubbish, took away pretty much everything people liked about the game and for the better part of 7 years had people thinking the franchise died for it.

Nicolas HU3 BR Only played Air Combat on PlayStation... Missed Air Combat 2 on that system then started back in with Ace Combat 04 on PS2. The franchise was never really big here in the West. When I was in college I brought a copy of the game people were impressed with the visuals, but put off by the gameplay. They called it "slow."

Ace combat series is one of the best franchise I ever play
I replay the series almost every year specially the PS2 area and I'm gonna do it this year before Ace 7.
For me :
1.ACE Z
hands down for The best in the series so far
(There something special about Zero story ,graphic ,OST and gameplay)
2.ACE 4
(The art and story are unique, But some mission need to wait the time to finish happen a lot)
3.ACE 5
(I like a lot in this game ,But there are some mission are just annoy to play with )
Ace 1,2 and 3 are good and psp & 3ds games too.
(I play every ace combat game except 6 because I didn't own xbox360)
pretty similar to my rankings. honestly if you ever come across a cheapo 360 id just about say its worth buying just to play 6, 6 has serious story/dialogue issues but the gameplay side (and ingame story, retaking gracemeria) was quite good. the gameplay even rivals zeroes for how good it played. and it looks absolutely beautiful, even now.
on the other hand, the cutscene story and dialogue is even more ham fisted than 5, which is pretty crazy.

@@2ia26_rakhaamanta4 while 6 is actually a very good game, gameplay wise (story wise..not as much) id highly reccomend AC4. Even to this day it holds up remarkably. I have a video linked in the pinned comments talking about it. If you can find a used ps2 for cheap or can emulate on pc its well worth it

Ace Combat Zero is the best game in my opinion , right after Final Fantasy XII , Zero felt really good while playing it ; the music , sound effects , voices , hard game mechanics when facing 10+ enemies that are in the same squad.
Everything in it was absolutely amazing , my favourite planes were Typhoon and Wyvern(sorry forgot the rest of the name)
Zero is probably the only game that i can genuinely say it did everything right

I can give you a verbal reason why I think people love the franchise. Simply put, "storytelling with new world history". Our world while the same from a biological stand point, introduces a whole other concept of reality, new and interesting countries, with a nearly infinite amount of lore to sink our teeth into, and war stories being always told from the perspective of some of the most elite and somewhat secretive groups of people on the planet. The fighter pilot. However unlike your standard FPS's where you fight wave after wave of generic enemies generally eliminating a battalion sized force on your own with little to no recognition from allies. However in ace combat you get praised by both allies AND enemies and really FEEL like a badass superhuman pilot. Where Friendly NPC's will be shocked and actually respond to your actions and ability and shower you with accolades. Enemies will somewhat do the same things which is weird that you can hear the enemies' radio chatter where they'll often give you battlefield nicknames
Galm 1: the demon lord of the round table
Gryphus 1: the southern cross or "nemesis"
Wardog squadron: the demons of Razgriz/ the ghosts of Razgriz/ the 4 wings of sand island etc
Mobius 1: the ribbon
Bone arrow 4/1: the Reaper
Etc
Plus the new and super weapons that these countries make that only you can destroy
AC0: Excalibur, Morgan, the heavy command cruiser
AC5: the SOLG
AC4: Megalith and Stonehenge
AC6: the Chandiler and Aigaion "Moby Dick"
AC7: The Arsenal Bird
And that's not even counting the numerous elite fighter squadrons you face down in all of them. Amazing stories, Amazing characters, Amazing world building, and Amazing character development. So much more to explain that I can't possibly type it all out without missing something important. Strangereal is just a fantastic universe to get involved in.

The nuclear holocaust in Zero was the first time I really ever felt truly scared while playing a videogame.
That's extremely crazy because I played the games in order of their release so I knew exactly what was going to happen on top of that I really started tp see how the developers loosely weaved history into the franchise (those submarine aircraft carriers in AC5 come to mind can't spell their names)... They twisted a lot of things up so they could rightfully call it their own fiction.
It's kinda crazy how the virtual fighter jets I was flying on the PS back in '96 (back when it was called "Air Combat") are real today F-22 and F-35 are operational today while the X-02 is still a distant concept and a few others seem to be straight up fantasy aircraft... But that's exactly what my parents thought about those jets at the time.
Stage of apocalypse in zero was legit unsettling. how the music just stops and cuts to an eerie low white noise/ambient sort of thing, comms going haywire, the air before the explosion is clear with good visibility. then you see a huge glowing light to the east, the air becomes incredibly murky, the hud is spazzing out, people are freaking out over comms.
one of my favourite moments in videogames. it was incredibly well done.

it removed strangereal as a setting, added an on rails, scripted to hell and back DFM which was absolute rubbish, took away pretty much everything people liked about the game and for the better part of 7 years had people thinking the franchise died for it.

Only played Air Combat on PlayStation... Missed Air Combat 2 on that system then started back in with Ace Combat 04 on PS2.
The franchise was never really big here in the West. When I was in college I brought a copy of the game people were impressed with the visuals, but put off by the gameplay. They called it "slow."
Isnt that slow anyway but the game improved so much until today . Probably AC7 is going to be the best Ace Combat of the franchise
