The pliers I was using were small and not the heavy duty lineman’s pliers I normally use. I thought I could getaway with using the smaller pliers on the Blacknose sharks but I will be using the heavy duty pliers from now on! Thanks for Watching!!

We are looking to get some Big Blacktips over 6’ this year but first we need to get to the beach. The conditions have been really bad the last several weeks! Thanks for Watching!!

What are you thoughts on crushing the barb and using a de hooker for faster safer release

I have gotten better with the dehooker on the big Blacktips but I was actually using a small set of pliers and not my heavy duty lineman’s pliers on this Blacknose. I thought about filing down the Owner Super Mutu barbs but they are very effective for keeping the baits on the hook so I left them alone. I also think the Barb on the Mutu hooks are helping the big Blacktips getaway when they jump and spin 10-15 times like most of them have recently been doing!

How many trips would you like to have this year? Do you keep track of the number of sharks you hook in a year?

Depending on the conditions we will make between 50-75 trips per year. With our main shark setups we normally average about a 90% catch rate on a solid pulldown/hookup with the big Blacktips, But in 2021 it was probably closer to 30% We also missed more Blacktips in 2020 than we normally do, We are looking forward to doing better in 2022. Thanks again for Watching!!
