  • Surf Fishing Florida, Catching a Blacktip Shark plus Whiting and Spots on every cast! We caught a 54 inch Blacktip Shark and my wife caught around 45 Whiting and Spots! We use a 2 hook rig with her little 8' Star Rod and she had 8 double hookups on the Whiting and spots! The Blacktip Shark was a smaller one but it counts! We lost a BIG SHARK that bit through the leader about 35 inches from the hook, which was definitely unexpected! But the best part of the trip was her 8 double Whiting and Spots!! Thanks for Watching!!

Do the black tip reach a certain length? What would be the largest that you can get from the beach? Hope you can try again soon.

I have caught 2 Trophy 78 inch Blacktips along with a 76 inch plus 2 74 inch that were all over 125lb and one of the 78 inch Blacktips was at least 150lbs. We have hooked and lost a few that might have been close to 7 foot! The Big Shark that we lost in this video might not have been a Blacktip? It’s possible it could have been a Lemon or bull shark?

Hi. The way I see it is a shark is a shark and that one was not a bad size. Is that size edible legally there where you fish. Fun watching the videos. Is it possible you can get more closeups of the fish that are being caught? Have a great night.

The Blacktips in Florida have no size limit and people do keep them, they are supposed to be very good to eat. However we would never kill any Shark or Stingray, many people use the Stingrays and also the baby Sharks for bait which we also never do! You are right I should have got some close ups of all her doubles she caught on this trip. I probably only filmed 2 or 3 of her first 15 or 20 fish she was catching and she was getting mad at me LOL, I definitely need to do a better job filming her fishing! Keeping the shark rod in the water when there is current and rough surf, along with the pull downs and and the "Cut off" we had is a lot of work. You have a great night as well and thanks again for Watching!!

I wish you would say the date and time at the start of your videos.
Also are you down at the Apollo beach area south of NSB?
I'll be there the first week of August.

We fish the Canaveral National Seashore park which is at the southern end of NSB. The conditions in August are usually pretty good, But so tar this year the conditions have been far from normal. Thanks for Watching!!

Awesome videos! I come down to New smyrna every year, sometimes twice, do you have any tips on how to read the surf and how far out to cast? I've been striking out everytime I come down

The best advice I can give for fishing NSB is to fish the 6 hour window around high tide. So the 3 hours before high tide and the 3 hours after high tide allows you to fish the first cut, which is normally 25-40 yards wide and 4-6 feet deep. My wife catches most of her fish between 15-30 feet from the edge of the surf, she rarely casts more than 30 yards out. Thanks for Watching!!

Hey man, looking at getting a BG 5000 for surf fishing. Have yours held up good? Have any compliants?

They are very good reels and we have caught a lot of Sharks, Stingrays and even a couple of Trophy Beach Tarpon with them. You absolutely cannot get them splashed let alone dunked because they have no seals and are very susceptible to water intrusion! They do have a very good exterior finish and have excellent line lay and are relatively light for their size. The BG 5000 is a good choice for general surf fishing with 9'-10' medium to medium heavy surf rods. We have 2 BG 8000 and 1BG 5000 and we also have a BG 4000 and BG 3000 we use for bass fishing. So we have a lot of experience with the BG reels, Thanks for Watching!!

@@koreanfishingwife8766 yeah that’s what I’ve heard about the water sealing. I was planning to use mine for targeting large tarpon from beach and from kayack. The kayack part concerns me because of the obvious risk of dunking the reels. Do you have a good recommendation for a reasonably priced reel with a little more sealing?

I would look at the older 2014 version of the Shimano Spheros SW10000 or the new 2020 Shimano Saragossa SW10000. Both reels are more expensive at $220-$280 but are fully sealed and are very good reels. I would definitely not get the BG 5000 for kayak fishing!
