Thank you for this video! I have been watching hours of training videos and this is the first I’ve seen that explained this process. I have my Class B with passenger to drive a school bus. I plan to complete this year and over the summer go to a truck driving school for my class A. Videos like yours are so helpful so that I can get familiar with the process. Thank you again!
This video was able to help me help my boyfriend from nj on the phone while he hooked and unhooked his trailer for the first time thank you so much for this amazing video
Thank you. I'm testing for my permit this week and was concerned about drop and hook. But your video made it super easy to understand. Especially the tip of lining up the wheels. I've gotten so much good advice from truckers on here that I almost feel like I could go and drive one now lol.
Another thing I do is when I'm backing under the trailer I let the turntable hit the trailer or go just under it, get out and check the heights. Sometimes there's a gap, or sometimes you need to drop the airbags to get under it. Great video, even though it seems simple it can be done wrong and damage can be done, trailers can be dropped.
Best video of coupling and uncoupling so far ! The angle where you put the camera is just what every new driver wants to see . Great Video keep it up 💯
Thanks for the ❤! I've been driving for 10 years, and there are some days, (not every day) but I still manage to get myself in a binds with dropping or hooking loaded trailers from time to time. You can bust the crank shaft if you're not careful, you can jump the 5th wheell, which I haven't done, but have seen done on loaded trailer, you better hope you're granny gears in the trailer are in good working order, and get someone with knowledge to help you! Good idea to carry a pipe 3 feet long that fits over the crank handles just incase so two people can push on it. What to do if the trailer you need to pick up was dropped to low & you can't get under it. You can't ram into it and hope it picks up. I've had the bolt in the crank handle sheer off several times on me while cranking, so it's wise to keep a few machime bolts nuts and washers with you & a basic set of wrenches with you, because when the handle falls on the ground, you aint turning it anymore. The problem with CDL schools and instructional videos is that they are geared towards help you pass the cdl test, but do not help at all with real world situations that will happen to you. This shit always happens on a Friday afternoon when you're very tired & you just want to go home, but now it's cold, you're in a jam, there's no one around and your f**ked. The CDL school I went to gets a A from me for preparing me to pass the CDL test, but gets an absolute F for preparing students for the real world. Like backing. 100 yards straight line back for the test ✅️ and 45° angle back on drivers side with orange cone markers for the test ✅️. That's fine for starters, But nobody does that in the real world. Your just flying blind in the real world until you get into a difficult place. They should take students to different industrial places, where there are different Doc situations. Start easy, and increase difficulty as student progresses backing, so they don't panic the first time you have to block traffic with your truck from both directions (the 4 wheelers have no idea how much stress the truck driver is under) the road is narrow and there is a mailbox that your gonna take out if you start turning to early, so you miss the mailbox now your ass end is too far over, so you have to try again. That's just one scenario! I digress.😊
Man your video should be in every training class , this has got to be the first and only video I have saw with a camera pointed directly to the king pin locking in place great video
Hey guy you pretty fancy with them words. 'Stowaway' and what have you. I been calling it gladhand holders. Now watch me get fancy wit it. Not to mention that is some fancy camera work too. You give us truckers a good name.
Nice video I got an idea now I’m gonna apply for western express pretty soon. At trucking school they didn’t teach us a lot on the drop and hooking lol just showed us one time and it’s been past a year since I got my cdl
I’m a new truck driver And I got stuck I didn’t know how to unhook the trailer But this video was so helpful I really appreciate you you are so amazing Thanks so much even my teacher didn’t teach me like that Like i said you before bro You are amazing good luck my man 😉
Thanks! I saw a cab back up to a trailer today but didn't have time to watch the whole process of it getting loaded up. I still don't know how he did it with a post underneath the front of the trailer, in the middle.
Raising the landing gear is clockwise Lower the landing gear is counterclockwise You'll hardly ever be able to raise landing gear when the trailer is loaded. In most all cases, raising or lowering landing gear is easiest done in low gear. The handle will need to be cranked slower in lower gear.
Saw your video. At the 4:10 second mark the rubbers on the glad hand and the trailer looked liked they should be replaced. They are made of rubber and take a lot of abuse from the weather. Worn out and cracked rubbers are one of the reasons why trailers lose air pressure.
The very second I hear the hitch engage I do a quick tug test, not a big pull but enough that you know the bar is engaged. And our electrical lead is coiled just like a pigs tail. Good video👍
Yup.. good vid demonstration. I see some truckers drop the trailer landing gear 1 inch off the ground before uncoupling from the tractor, is that a good idea? Cuz that seem dumb to me n anybody who got an understanding of precision n ease of connecting stuff
That's a good idea and I do that often. The reason is because when re-coupling to the trailer, it will sometimes be jacked up too high and the skid plate on the tractor can miss the kingpin altogether when backing up to it. When trucks pull out from the trailer, their suspension lowers for the lack of weight. So when the truck hooks up again, the chassis has been lowered too far below the height of the kingpin for a successful connection. So truckers will sometimes lower the height of the trailer upon disconnection.
@@family1stdad that still eh mke sense. Cuz if theres no weight on the tractor it should b high enough to pick up the kingpin when backing up to it... but that's myopinion
When hook up the tractor with trailer do we need to dump the fifth wheel air so it can come down once we are under the trailer , fill up the air again and hook? Is that right?
As simple as this video was .. it was the camera angles that really made this video amazing .. thank you
I agree. This is the best I've seen. I needed that visual.
Camera angles was next level. Thank you!
This video is the best explanation i have ever seen of this, Starting a new job too get into the industry soon. Big thanks.
Best Video Ive Seen on drop & Hook! Amazing camera angles. Very useful for us new drivers! We appreciate your dedication to give us good content 🎥
The way you explain it is great. The new driver can easily understand by watching your video. I have never seen such a video before. Thanks
That is the best video yet!
I have watched several videos about this topic but I must say that you have nailed it bro. Thanks for the lesson. God bless you too
Just wanted to say thank you… I’ve been driving tandems for over a year and am planning on going OTR next year… I so appreciate the refresher course.

I love this video! So far is the best one I have watched. showing every details and steps on the camera was very helpful. Thank you! 🙏🏽
Thanks brother. I've been thinkin about driving mules at work. And now I think I will. God Bless you.
thank u so much, the up close camera angles really helped to understand how exactly the locking jaws work.
I didn’t see a tug test but everything else was awesome 👌🏽
And don’t forget to do a tug test, just in case the locking jaws don’t actually “lock” and the trailer falls off.
That I never forget. Thank you
I was thinking the same thing
He wouldn't have passed his test at the DMV 🤣🤣
@@Miguel-xq5ibDMV test doesn't apply here because you are always connected to the trailer.
Great video and you showed the locking jaw and explained everything thoroughly. Very clear instructions.
Very descriptive video you show what my driving school doesn’t show will look at more videos you post
This video was able to help me help my boyfriend from nj on the phone while he hooked and unhooked his trailer for the first time thank you so much for this amazing video
I usually pull forward to make sure it’s really locked in but I don’t have a cdl but I do drive sometimes I just like watching videos like this
Thank you. I'm testing for my permit this week and was concerned about drop and hook. But your video made it super easy to understand. Especially the tip of lining up the wheels. I've gotten so much good advice from truckers on here that I almost feel like I could go and drive one now lol.
I just earned my CDL 2 days ago & I was thinking the exact same thing.
You made it look simple ,your camera was on a good angle thank you very much.
You did wonders with this video bro; I’m a new trucker and I believe my 7 year old could hook and unhook from a trailer with this video
Another thing I do is when I'm backing under the trailer I let the turntable hit the trailer or go just under it, get out and check the heights. Wow you're my favorite guy now. I wanna do a drop and hook job no touch freight and you explained it easier than the CDL book
Looking to get my cdl and I’m trying to learn everything they don’t teach you at school.

This video is incredible, awesome representation of a drop and hook and great camera angles
That was a great close-up view of the locking jaw setting into position. It may be a 1st for UA-cam. Thanks!
Good refresher for me getting back into it. Thank you!

Very good video and informative as well
Hey you're the best Big Rig!
Thanks for the resfresh!
I’m a new truck driver
And I got stuck
I didn’t know how to unhook the trailer
But this video was so helpful
I really appreciate you you are so amazing
Thanks so much even my teacher didn’t teach me like that
Like i said you before bro
You are amazing good luck my man 😉
Good info thanks 👍 rookie owner operator driver here 😂 that locking pin video was awesome. I can do this 💪
I love your teaching
I don't drive truck, but I came here b/c I was curious how connecting the trailer works and now I have a better idea :)
Thanks! I saw a cab back up to a trailer today but didn't have time to watch the whole process of it getting loaded up. I still don't know how he did it with a post underneath the front of the trailer, in the middle.
Me personally this is the best video yet on how to do this properly very well detailed 👏 👌🏻
On landing gear if loaded which way you turn to lift them and if low/high gear? I get confused whether loaded or empty
Raising the landing gear is clockwise
Lower the landing gear is counterclockwise
You'll hardly ever be able to raise landing gear when the trailer is loaded. In most all cases, raising or lowering landing gear is easiest done in low gear. The handle will need to be cranked slower in lower gear.
Thanks much. You are right very hard to do.
Very thorough and detailed. Thank you!!
Thank you for your support and it’s means so much
Forgot to give it a slight pull forward after you’re king pin latched..to double check..if it latched on properly!

Thanks brother ❤
Damn good video…. Editing was top tier.. 💯💯💯
Great job on this video my friend, well done.
This is so awesome. I’ve always wondered how this was done!!!
Correct me if I’m wrong
Tug test, and wait for the airbags to stabilize when getting the trailer ?
The very second I hear the hitch engage I do a quick tug test, not a big pull but enough that you know the bar is engaged. And our electrical lead is coiled just like a pigs tail.
Good video👍
Thank you much more helpful then my trainer jut saying do a drop nd hook while half asleep…
Great way to explain and very good content on your recording you broke everything down to we’re it was understood
Great video !!!!
Great video. Thank you for sharing.😊
Love this simple easy to remember...thank you !!!
Good easy steps
GREAT VID MY FRIEND 👍🏾💯
Clear and easy tutorial. 👌
I drove the school bus for 3 years and I turned my CDL B into an A Permit last year, I’m about to Ace this third party test. In 2 weeks flat.
Wow Awesome video. Super Helpful

Beautiful... good job broh.. thanks a lot.
Hi bro. Need help. I need to unload my trailer on a slope. Am i able to adjust the Jet Stand and try to make the container Horizontal?
Great video! But maybe include tug test.
When hook up the tractor with trailer do we need to dump the fifth wheel air so it can come down once we are under the trailer , fill up the air again and hook? Is that right?
Dumping the airbags is not necessary as long as your truck's skid plate can slide under the trailer before connecting to the kingpin
How do you let down your trailer if it to high for the kingpin to hook to the 5th wheel
Thank you for video brother...God bless you
Rule of thumb: Always check your gromins/gland hand seals to ensure they are not worn or even missing. God Bless you also Brother. Truck on Safely.
