Royal family at fhe opening. You can see George I, King of Greece in the middle (sitting in lodge). On his left, the future British King (then prince) Edward VII with his wife Alexandra of Denmark (sister of George of Greece). On her left, her son, also the future King of Britain - George V.
Are these really of 1896? As someone else noted below, might these not be of the Intercalated Games of 1906? They look more organized than the first go-around of 1896?
Definitely recorded in 1906. In 1896 about 140 athletes were registered of which not even half of the competitors really participated. 1906 was a much larger event with over 850 athletes and an event that probably saved the modern Olympic Games after the St. Louis disaster.
I know, isn't that crazy though. The footage you can see is that King George I of Greece opening the 1896 Athens games. His last living grandchild, Prince Philip of England just died last year in 2021, 125 years later, amazing. George I was shot to death in Greece in 1913 following the Greek Turkish War. Philip's father was Prince Andrew of Greece who was either George I's youngest or second youngest son, can't remember exactly. George I of Greece was also the most famous son of King Christian IX of Denmark who was also called the father in law of Europe.
I think the first part was definitely 1896. The rest of it I am not sure. But still incredibly interesting to see a glimpse of a world destined to end in 1914
I cannot say if REALLY is fake or real because on 1896 was posible (but a nightmare to do correctly) record video BUT unless this video was restored, the quality will be terrible. And also, why you say is on 1906?
Come si chiama il film da cui sono state prese le scene delle varie gare di atletica? A quale anno risale? Ne esiste una versione doppiata in italiano?

It is probable that this movie is from Games in 1906, celebrating the ten years of modern games. So Edward maybe was already king
Some footage from intergames of 1906 in Athens.

This must also be the first case of 'hair in the gate'! (7.10 onwards)
Note that the reason for all the spots and cracks in the film is because of wear. It's not supposed to look like that.
Los primeros juegos olímpicos modernos celebrados en su natal Atenas Grecia en 1896

Every living thing we see here is way past dead.
Well that's really creepy to think about but ita true
thats life, we 100 years from now will be dead too
Except possibly trees, if there are any in shot.

Why you got to creep me out
You know the world is fucked up when 1896 Olympics was more cooler than 2020 Olympics..
I know, right! The crazy world we live in.
More cooler? These -- and I think these are the 1906 Intercalated Games -- took place in early April.
damn right
Better than Paris 2024

It’s not 1896; it’s 1906 and the interim “Olympics” (aka Intercalated Games) held in Athens
