Just come across your video. I'm so glad there's still honest people out there. So many older people get taken advantage of. If I lived in your area I would tell everyone to hire you. Keep up the good and honest work.
Andy, thank you for being a person of integrity. My heart goes out to the lady's house in the video. Hope your business grows from word of.mouth for your honest character. Kudos brother.
Man, I wish you were in my area to do repairs on my T1-11 siding!! I need some areas fixed because we are going to sell also and I don’t want the rotted siding to be an issue and I don’t have to money to vinyl side the house!!
00:03:55 GOOd MAN👍🏻, & would have done the same. Hate when other contractors/handymen/etc....take money for a job, but really don’t "Do" the job....but barely do the minimum amount of work. Awesome that you fixed another person's work on your own dime & time!😊 It’s hard to find great ppl to work on crews & ppl/businesses that do a great job, & is what gives a bad rep to the trades/construction/repair industry etc....& I would have been mad too after seeing that, & sad that the owner wasn’t able to check work afterwards(however, depending on knowledge, might not have made a difference & that’s just taking advantage of ppl.....uncool). Cheers👊🏻
At least half of our new clients in metro Atlanta have either been completely ripped off by another contractor with many getting a deposit and disappearing. We tell everyone - if your contractor can't process a credit card, find someone else! At least then you have some recourse if there is a problem.
I just did some OSB vertical siding repair (similar to t1-11). Other than sealing and painting the bottom edge, what do you recommend I do to make the edge more rot resistant? I understand that it is water splashback and moisture wicking that caused the rot. I'm thinking of attaching a piece of primed and painted 1x6 along the bottom edge. Is that a good solution?
this siding should imo never had paint to start with. this stuff should get a oil base solid color stain, on the back, front and all cut edges. i am pre staining a load of it now.
03:23 looks like they nailed up a piece of 1x material using finish nail gun. But yeah, no back priming and using headless nails on the exterior is bad news.
Yes you can still buy T-111 siding just depends where in the country you are located. Check with a building supply company that sells to the trades. Home Depot and Lowes will carry it in some markets depending on usage.
There’s rough hewn t111 and there’s pre primed LP t111 here in the Nw. Deal is - in the 80s it was 5/8 thick. Now Llp 1/2 thick is $48 a sheet. Primed rough hewn t111 8” on center 5/8 is $72 sheet.
The owner here was a super nice person with a difficult repair. Once it was completed, the house sold immediately. It is so important to take care of rotted wood, siding or trim on the exterior of your home prior to listing it for sale.

I wish all builders had your craftsmanship and integrity. Thank you for all this important information!

What kind of caulk do you recommend for sealing the T1 11?
