June has an exceptional voice, excellent technique, but most importantly, she sings with great/correct style - that is what is so rare today! Grateful to have grown up with her as the soprano of my youth
I am a die-hard Sutherland fan...but I have to say that this woman is really very great! I can't believe how much she looks like Joan! She really is quite excellent - and if she isn't quite as stupendous as Joan Sutherland- she (Anderson) is better than everybody ELSE! (Coloratura wise!) 😀 Fascinating lady....and a great great singer!
The time of such serious artists is clearly gone. For instance, who is to replace June Anderson in the belcanto repertoire? Dessay? Netrebko? I love them, but, come on.
You're right. When Joan Sutherland first met her, she remarked, "You've got my chin! That's probably how we were both able to produce those big sounds." There is something to be said for how such opera singers can sing with larger voices because of unsually large chins, necks, cheekbones, jaws, ribcages, etc...
Let it be known that June Anderson's vocal type is very rare. It is not too often that we get a soprano who can sing these runs, trills, and ornamentations with such a big voice. That's why this role was so underappreciated for over a century because so few sopranos could pull it off well.
Whenever I hear people say anything about negative about JA, it reminds me of the story of the man who, when hearing Joan Sutherland, remarked that she was as "dull as Melba." June Anderson will go down in history as a great singer for any generation, and we were lucky that so much of her art has remained preserved on audio and video. Brava, June!
One of my favorite singers ever. Great singing as we don't hear anymore these days. True bel canto line, amazing phrasing and beautiful voice. Everything is there.
I think after Sutherland, Callas, and Sills, Anderson is the most complete coloratura. June Anderson is a HUGE fan of Joan Sutherland. She had a lot to say about Dame Joan in the DVD tribute "Joan Sutherland The Reluctant Prima Donna. You can watch it on UA-cam. June Anderson has a larger voice which I appreciate. Her trill is not ideal such as Sutherland or Sills. But who these day can trill like Sutherland and Sills? I think Anderson is great. She sings a fantastic "Bel Raggio" also.
She was a very fine successor to Sutherland in many respects, although the voice itself was in my opinion not as beautiful and the trill not as tight. Puritani and Semiramide (in concert) were great experiences. Her Lucia a little less so I thought. I cannot really think of anyone now to compare and I agree that maybe the era of serious artists has passed - sadly.
You are right, I have heard her live at the met.. in rigoletto with Pavorotti. and she has a large enough voice.. So btw does he.. a large lyric voice.
Why don't you listen to some live recordings with better quality than UA-cam, so that you can hear her side-by-side with other singers. Only in live recordings, and better actually live, you can get an idea for the size of her voice. Certainly, she could never sing Brunnhilde, but for a coloratura she has a big voice.
This also one of the best performance of June Anderson in my opinion. Beatrice di Tenda “Al tuo fallo ammenda festi” ua-cam.com/video/7rFoH8rrSQc/v-deo.html
In many ways I like her better than Beverly Sills in belcanto operas. A more pure and stylish voice with an affecting plangent timber. Her "I Puritani" in San Francisco has not been equalled since in my memory. Too bad she wasn't appreciated in NY - James Levine didn't care for belcanto and Beverly Sills hated her.
I heard her live at Covent Garden and it was like she was singing right next to me. Incredible projection in this voice.
Si la voce di Anderson é Grande !

dal vivo una voce bellissima .
brava !

Same thing here, I love Sutherland, but I would say Anderson is second on my list for this repertoire, she's really great :-)
Mme. Callas?
Lol I always thought she favored Joan as well or her daughter or something! But yes Anderson always does a great job!!
@@NLidarfor sure!
One of the greatest sopranos of all time
Wow, as a die hard Sutherland fan, this is up there. Gorgeous.
The time of such serious artists is clearly gone. For instance, who is to replace June Anderson in the belcanto repertoire? Dessay? Netrebko? I love them, but, come on.
You're right, unfortunately :-(
znamoperu I totally agree that. There’s no bel canto this day. That’s why retired age sopranos such as Gruberova, Devia have to work until now.

The rest go thin on the high notes. In Amadeus, her Queen of the Night was incredible.
I heard her live and though wonderful...she is a lyric coloratura. Her voice is a healthy medium size.

Sutherland said to June, on meeting her, " they say the Ebs are in that jaw".
The only one of my favourite 5 sopranos ever who is still alive to this day!
God bless June Anderson!
Amazing video, thank you so much! =)
Absolutely breathtaking. One of my favorite sopranos.
Una grandissima artista e musicista
Such a wonderful singing is not found any more these days. She knew exactly what bel canto is about. Bravissima.
One of the GREATEST coloraturas of all time ... just s magical technician
One of my favorite singers ever. Great singing as we don't hear anymore these days. True bel canto line, amazing phrasing and beautiful voice. Everything is there.
A singer from a time when they could actually sing!
I think after Sutherland, Callas, and Sills, Anderson is the most complete coloratura.

Absolutely agree with you. She often sang at La Fenice always with great success. She was amazing.
this is ridiculous!!!! amazing!
Excelente!!!!😊😊😊
You're fortunate to have heard her. I was only a kid when she was at her peak.
What a touching interpretation!
Brava!!!
Wonderful
Bravissima
Seriously, that’s some miraculous singing….
QUEEN
Bravissima 💕💕💕💕💕🔥
She's a goddess!!!! Brilliant!

Yes, her Daphne is absolutely beautiful. I recommend both the DVD and CD, and I think it's nice than even Renée Fleming's version.
wow her jawline is just like Sutherland's

Disagree strongly with this assessment. Check her out in the Daphne clip here on youtube from 2005. She's still got it - singing Strauss no less.
