    I think the statistics are a bit misleading. It made sense to invest into internet infrastructure when there was practically none, and the speeds available were not enough to sustain a growing modern country, but nowadays, pretty much every internet provider offers speeds ranging from 100 mbps all the way to 2 gbps. The slower and cheaper internet speeds are more than sufficient for an average person simply browsing the net, and there is little point to increase the already sufficient internet speeds for this segment of the population just for the sake of climbing statistics. Anyone wanting access to higher speeds whether its 1gbps or 2 gbps can choose to do so without an issue.

      I can second that. Lithuania got ahead 15 years ago because we skipped the phone lines and went straight to ethernet cables years prior. In some countries, e.g. in Spain, just a few years ago some of the households were still using a phone line for internet connection which is extremely slow when more than one person connects to it. Nowadays, in LT, for a relatively low price compared to the rest of Europe you can get an unlimited fiber optic in most major cities with speeds between 100 MB/s and 2,000 MB/p. The slowest fibre optic is more than enough for most tasks. In most network providers the 100 MB/s unlimited fibre optic plane costs around 10 €/month.

      That is true. I personaly have an opportunity to have 2Gbps at home, but still using 300Mbps, because that is totally fine for my family. So why pay for something I don't need?

    In my experience, the internet in Lithuania is still great! All the major cities have 5G now, and even the most middle-of-nowhere rural areas have decent enough internet for navigating with google maps.

    What matters is availability and price not the average speed. In Lithuania you can get 2gbps for 30eu/ month while in some countries fastest you will find is still 0.5-1gbps even with higher average. Im good with my old 300mbs contract, but I could get 1gbps for the same price or even less. Maybe people just dont feel the need to upgrade, Im pretty sure 100-300mbps is enough for your average internet user.

    Ah if you spent any time in Germany or UK you'd know having faster internet than them is a low bar to hit.. 😂 Their internet is absolute rubbish.
    On a separate note, Lithuania recently claimed first spot in the happiest young people (under 30's) world list. Given that in the recent decades our people were anything but happy, that seems to be changing, at last... Considering that you with your young family live in Vilnius, I was wondering if it might be a relevant topic for you to look into for a future video potentially? 😅

    Nowadays Telia doesn’t even suggest internet plan that is slower than 250Mbps (speaking about internet provided through fiber cable). I don’t know why Ookla has so low statistics

    For personal (who wach UA-cam or stream 1 to 2 4k streams) use there are no differences between 100 mb/s to 2gb/s. And 100 mb/s was standard and you could buy this plan for 7 euros but now companies removing this plan and minimum is 200 to 300 mb/s

    For personal use, there's really no improvement going from 100mb/s (the standard minimum speed of Lithuanian isp) to 1gb/s +. So there isn't really a market for higher speeds yet.

    Lithuanian telia offers up to 2 Gbps. Meanwhile Estonia max you can get is 1 Gbps. Remember the news about Estonia being fastest? I even remember how one ISP promised to bring 10 Gbit to customers in 2017 (Starman) and then promptly got sold/merged with Elisa. So the upgrade never happened.

    I do not know or it same in all my City Vilnius. I can't remember exactly a date year it was around 4 years for sure I have received all call from Telia as to speak nowadays that we do not have anymore 100mpps fiber option starting from 300Mbps. Now I have 2Gbps 40 euro a month. I watching Bravia Core n etc. I felt difference.

    In Vilnius I use the TEO network, FTTH. At night you can go to 1000Mb/s. Hungary where I come from, 1000 is already standard on Telekom's network. Mobile internet is faster here, Telia.

    not enough investment into internet infrastructure lately, the 5G rollout was also relatively slow

      "Telia" always was considered best,but most expensive. The other 2 big ones" Bite" and "Tele2", are less expensive and same quality. ( It wont set you back more than 10 eu a month, and you can get in most shops around a country)

    • @QuadrumLTU
      @QuadrumLTU 2 місяці тому +3

      Telia: 4G/4G+/5G (has 99% of all Lithuania territory 5G coverage average speed of 25mbps atleast for me)
      Bitė: 4G/4G+/5G (Mostly 4G so speeds ain't super fast but has decent amount of 5G antennas with average speed of 450mbps)
      Tele2: 4G/4G+/5G (Mostly 4G+) (Not a lot 5G average speed of 300-400mbps)
      So:
      1 Telia
      2 Bitė
      3 Tele2

    • @QuadrumLTU
      @QuadrumLTU 2 місяці тому +3

      Telia pushed to cover all of lithuania with 5G by updating 4G+ towers to be a bit better and faster and changed the symbol to 5G but it's still 4G+

    I think Lithuania does not strive to be in top spot because people just don't have complaints about what they have. it's fast and cheap (btw pricing comparison was unfortunately skipped) and the next jump in speed won't be necessary for a few more years.

    It lost any sense to be in the first place because internet speeds in Lithiania already reached optimal speed for most people and doesn't need massive upgrade. I am having 500 Mb internet and don't know what to do with all that speed! And this is the lowest speed you can currently get from Telia or other major providers. If someone wants 2 Gb internet - he cab get it easily, with every peovider and it is not even that costly! But for what sakes? 15 years ago when Internet in the World was generally slower, being in the first place sounded cool. Not anymore. No point. Everyone already has great internet.

    Germany not long time ago just implemented 1Gbps while we have 2Gbps. Germany has one of the worst Internet quality network n mobile network with low quality n efficient n effort... Mainly just bigger cities towns than has better quality Internet mainly they stuck with 16-300Mbps dsl that is going to Building... All people sharing it so you ain't gonna get fast speed....

    hes has no idea what hes tralking about, Lithuania has fastest speeds, basically any citezen can have 500 Mbps stright to fiber optics in your home its cheapest internt you can get. and its super cheap , they can buy better internet like 2Gbits and even more for corporations, but point is even after you get 100 Mbits and games ping is 1 it means no more needed there is no point for even faster internet, games, 4k videos, movies and so on every technology doesnt need 500 i myself have that one and 4k videos actually loading faster in times than video rolling, problem also lies in servers of world which are slow, basically you watch movie and its giving you slow speeds than your internet speed is whaiting for server, so there is no point to buy even faster option which every person here has doah.counter is false as it counts by who downloads mopst and so on , also people tend to change toward 5G which does same which is slower, but you can use it anywhere 95% of country is covered by one of internet providers. Basically all country. People tend to have internet in pocket. Young people especially even if 5G is far from fiber, also people who has fiber at home are not using full speed of it, as it ussually comes near your apartment door and people simply place router next with wifi which means slowering internet and using wifi depends what router they buy or what type is provided not pluging directly even they can do this, basically there is no point in using more than 5g network. 4G++ is ok also. Now lets look at price also you will be shocked how cheap it is. Problem lies in that what movies are not watched in 4k online. you buy for 4k and get 720p lol bascially people buy super fast internet and never even use it and like me i had 100Mbits 5g cant reach this speed for dummes. and than i go to sighn another contract and they give me 500Mbits, problem is i never even used full force of 100. Also where is no such great servers to suck in such speeds. so to watch in 4k you also need 4k tv or monitor, movie must be in 4k. we dont even talk about 8k.

      This is only true for some apartment buildings. But many don't have fiber and live on 4G, that maxes out around 50mbps, sometimes up to 100 at night.

    I hate it so much when someone starts talking about fast Lithuanian internet. Internet in Lithuania is terrible, and only l0$ers likes to brag about.
