That’s the whole point, right? You play relatively rare moves, but they are commonly answered by mistakes. The computer is not impressed with these openings, which is why the moves are kind of rare on higher level, but humans struggle with them because there are only one or two hard to find good moves and many obvious moves that turn out to be blunders. Finding these line is like digging for gold and it’s really cool that we can use computer databases to analyse human play.
Whenever i can find the "can you find these tricky winning moves" in less than 30s i feel like im finally making progress in seeing the whole board. Love the fun tricky stuff.
Could you please do a series of videos on how to use the database tools on lichess and also how to use the analysis tools. Would love to get the most of lichess
Please do a series on the Moscow variation of the Semi Slav like you had said you had wanted to do when you did that series on the semi slav at the Saint Louis.
I mostly play the London as white so I never play against the French, but there are a lot of good ideas to look out for in this video! Thanks for the thought fodder.
After Queen captures b2 and knight b6 Queen b4 is a possibly good move, having a fork on the night and king, if bishop d2 or even queen b2, horse c3, black wins over the horse.
8:34 Actually Nb4 is not playable for black because after Nc7+ kd7 Nxa8 Nxc2+ qxc2! qxc2? White has beautiful checkmate bb5#! I didn't check it with computer so maybe black can play qxa1+ instead of qxc2 but it still amazing mate net that I thought u would really like.
At 12:24 it is not necessary to capture with pawn Black can play QxRd5 and exchange queen later if rook checks black king then Bishop can be developed to block check for black and black us winning . Pl analysis if i m missing anything
I learned about these trappy lines from GJ_Chess, shoutout to him! They got me so many free wins in the past, though I play a more solid repertoire vs the French now with an e4, e5, Nc3 setup now. I have to say the 2 knights Variation is GREAT to learn though.
@@kaishah2822 It amazed me how many free wins I got from opponents just making losing moves right out of the opening in those lines. If they play accurately it is tough to win with though.
I have a suggestion though, let's just delay moving the kingside knight and always have a white bishop attached to our king. I think that prevents a lot of problem with the spaces at my queenside and prevent that queen mating. Sometimes knight to h6 is the move to trade off white's dark square bishop to prevent such traps, while giving an opportunity to place the rook in front of the castled king.
I assume these traps were exposed with computer analysis, I don't remember seeing them in books. Funny how computers have exposed weaknesses where none were thought to exist before. These are important lines French players should know, and those looking for ways to fight the French.... But like any other trap, if the trap isn't sprung there's no assurance the trapper can play the resulting position even to a draw.
This illustrates why the real mistake is 1...e6. It doesn't auto-lose, but there are so many lines you can go wrong and just lose. And if you don't go wrong, you might get a strong line and be almost equal.
@15:47 after ....Qxg5+, Nxg5 Nc6,..... I am basically forcing you to exchange your last bishop for my Knight...which could lead to a pretty good game for black....
15:30 Lc0 finds black plays Qf1. If bishop captures queen then knight captures queen. if not in another line black is better with 2 rooks vs 1 queen. For months i beleived this trick after i watched GJ chess video but what if my opponent finds Qf1+.
Loved the video! Quick question - at 12:36 , why wouldn’t Qxd5 at the very least save black? White’s queen is forced to either trade or lose all sight on the king, and Re1 is no longer mate
Soooooo... More content against the French. Now I'm really totally confused on what I should play: Papa-Ticulat gambit (2.b3), Orthoschnaps, 2 knights... Somebody help me.
7 dc5 Bc5 8 Qd2 Nc6 9 0-0-0 Qa5! (Stockfish: -0.6) looks mysterious to us humans, but one threat is 10 h4 d4 and ...Qa2 =/+ and another is 10. Be3 Bb4 =/+
This guy is literally a gambit prodigy.
Almost as much as Eric Rosen
isn't he a bit old to be a prodigy?
Right you are!
an idot savant?
A prodigious gambiteer.
Jon: 13k people have fallen for this
Also Jon: it is a rare line
I was kinda hoping nobody would call me out on that one. :) Thanks for watching!
@@JonathanSchrantz you're welcome!

I play the tarrasch, rest in peace all of this information.
Enough said.
Nooo don’t reveal my secret opening prep I’ve been playing this for a while now
Oof i know that feeling when Levy covered Schleimman Gambit 😖
@@LeventK yeah same
Me too
Levent K******** .... I mean the Schliemann was topical at one point until people realised it was awful
im 2000 in blitz and i just realized i always fall for this trap
over and over again..

Decided to try this instead of the Orthoschnapp, first game in the guy blundered the Nc7# Your content is amazing
Love the content man! Keep up the great work, you deserve more than a million subscribers.
Dude this line is nuts that double rook sac and then sacking the knight. Im gonna terrorize those french players with this :D
how about if you start with me here?
Thanks for all you do. Helped me to find my passion again thank you.
This is the most outrageous line I’ve ever seen
That's awesome. I play 2 knights Caro and French and have sprung this trap a few times. You always show great lines
When I saw the thumbnail I knew you would reveal this - RIP my two knights...
The only GM in internet who offers complete chess courses for free. Thank you man.
Yeah he is super GM 😂
1:30 Rest In Peace to the three thousand players who played Nc6
thank you for this excellent coverage.
Thank you for these videos I have fallen into these different queen traps hundred times in blitz games over and over lol
I thought the most natural move of any French is to give up
Boom roasted
That’s why I win with the french, they expect it and then it’s revealed that french people are more courageous than others. So they loose.

The mainline 2 knights has even more french players falling for tricks
Jonathan thank u very much
Creamy layer n most vital variations... can't ask for better benefit at amateur level.. thanks a lot Master
Great stuff you doing really good Man
After Queen captures b2 and knight b6 Queen b4 is a possibly good move, having a fork on the night and king, if bishop d2 or even queen b2, horse c3, black wins over the horse.
this gambit is so incredible that after bishop takes f pawn and queen takes b pawn, the engine says white is winning (depth =29)!
great video master! more of this! God bless!
thank you! well done! way to go!

Same but I find after Nc3, if the play Nf6, I play E5, they play Nd7, I play Nf3 and it transposes - probably 50% of the time they play Nf6 on move 3.

18:30 According to Stockfish 15, Nxe6 > Nxd5, at least at 29 depth.
Thanks 👍

13:24 Just be careful not to take the rook right away. You need to save your own rook first.
Lol this is already my preferred line against the French 😫😂 but I didnt know some of these traps thank u
Underrated channel
This is my favorite opening against the French
Thanks for the inspiration to make this video!
Jonathan Schrantz i’m happy that you liked the opening and I love your videos
He sacrificed the two rooks for a very nice attack, COOL!
@2:18 I would play pawn to F6 to drag white pawn away from centre. Not sure if that is an error.
This illustrates why the real mistake is 1...e6. It doesn't auto-lose, but there are so many lines you can go wrong and just lose. And if you don't go wrong, you might get a strong line and be almost equal.

Very good teaching 🙏🏼 thank you 👍
basically dont take the b2 pawn
Funny enough, I play French, and the position at 4:16 is one that I exactly encountered. I moved Qb6 fortunately, avoiding the trap. :)
Wait sorry why can’t black just push pawn to D4 on move 4?
I am no good at chess but in the opening scenario why not Black Pawn to F6 after White Bishop to G5?
Very helpful
I actually played 6..Be7?? when I was a 1600 player against a 1000 player. That game ended in a draw.
13,914 ppl have now fallen for that trap

Mate in 13 according to Stockfish 11 after Nd1. Nd1 has been played in a game in New Delhi in 2009 and did win.
I fell into this trap too. What a coincidence! (Lichess rating 2300)
6 Qa5 is best!

Qe7 mate, knight is pinned
00:00 the best opening
sorry I dont get: 6:07 why not queen b4 check and then queen x pawn c5 ?
Will you analyse the Bg5 Qa5 line? I feel like thats a very difficult line to play against for white?
The Jackal.
My main motivation for watching this video is the fact i hate the french so much. Great content by the way.

if you play the French there are so many ways to go wrong. you really gotta know your theory
Nice!
Do you only have 1 shirt? Or do you have a whole wardrobe of the same blue shirts..?
yes
it’s a nice shirt
Nice to see u
5:42 I think the best way for black to defend the c7 square is not with Ka6 but with Qb4+ and then Qxc5
nice one
what Qb3 d4 take c5,Qb7-Kb4, next Qb4 and take next Qc5
But what if black plays d4 after Nc3 on move 3
why so many adverts ?
I have been playing this line for several years. You neglected to show some of the Bf6 piece sacrifice lines.
me, a French player, having never seen this line and watching this video
cxd4?? also played in lichess database
This man is probably the only master that didn't live 300 years ago that understands how I (and many others) think.
Everybody plays 6. ...Qa5 against me pinning the knight on c3 and I am on my own. Too bad video does not cover that move.
