Puck I hate this world where there are so many things to buy , but you can't afford them, from expensive road bikes that cost similar to a car, to expensive computers bicycles that cost similar to a beginner road bike. Sorry for gramatical english. : ((
The IPX7 WaterProof Rating on the Garmin Edge 1000 should be a IPX6 at best. My 1000 died after an hour of rain and it wasn't a hard rain...just steady. When I chatted online with a Garmin rep, they asked me if I had been riding in the rain. I said yes and commented how a IPX7 rating should not allow water to enter the unit when it's raining. And yes, all flaps were securely closed. The Garmin rep did state however, that Garmin would replace the 1000 for a $100 so that's fair since it's out of warranty. I just wish that they had not advertise the 1000 with a IPX7 rating. IPX7 rating states it a unit can withstand TOTAL IMMERSION up to a meter's depth for 30 minutes.
Moral of the story. Get the 820.
No the battery on the 1000 is not long enough. Not enough to do a 100 mile bike ride. In reality it lasts about 7-8 hours
Thanks god there's a mute button...
i like the 820 is light and complete
Can you add trailforks routes to the 820?
Don't compare specs that don't affect visibility. Overall dimensions mean nothing if the screen on the 1030 isn't substantially larger. Here is what's important: Have the Garmin MAPS been update in the last ten years...? if not, any outdated bicycling maps are dangerous if the garmin puts a bicycle on the freeway. We have 10 year old bicycle specific paths in Portland (but the springwater trail is not recognized because of outdated garmin maps) . The biggest problem with Garmin Edge computers is the fact that the display is unreadable in direct sunlight and the maps don't reflect major route change in the last 10 years. Garmin Edge computers are the most expensive and the least accurate because Garmin won't update their maps. For $600 per GPS, you would think Garmin could update their maps. And stupid cyclist buy one thinking the Garmin Edge is going to provide bicycle safe routes.. What a mistake and Gamin doesn't really care that the maps are outdated. Because they sell.
Disagree with you there I'm afraid - the size of the GPS unit is important to lots of people - some people want large some want small.
@@VELOGPSTHEINNERTUBE my point was, if the screen can't be seen in sunlight, it's useless. Doesn't matter how big it is. PEACE.
Got an edge 1000 about a month ago for about $420 US with the speed, cadence, and heart rate monitor. The equivalent 1030 was $700. For the money 1000's are the best deal on the market right now.
Did exactly the same, got an edge 1000 from wiggle with a cadence and speed sensor with a heart rate monitor for £300. This is by far the most cost effective option. Also who rides for over 15 hours? If you are like me then you charge your Garmin after every ride. But great video none the less!
The 1000 is good enough, and looking at this video new model bigger every time how big do you really want your Garmin to be?
Harry Phillips I do, often ultra distance riders do.
Wait till all the bugs that the 1000 has start to send you barmy and you toss it in the bin. I have no idea if the 1030 is any better but the 1000 is junk.
@@wubble666 Agreed. The quality of the on board software is 5h!t. Garmin refuses to admit to this an keep steering users to work-arounds on their support forums.
Next time I need a cycling computer I will be seriously considering the Hammerhead Karoo. It is actively being improved and is based on a mobile phone operating system.
When are releasing the music edition with onboard Spotify or Deezer...
Battery duration???????
820 (meanwhile) also has Galileo!! The others as well?
Will be displayed a turn preview, when approaching junction and multiple data fields are displayed on Edge 1000 and will it come back to data field after I turn on juction? Same should does Edge 1030
According to frame 0:45, the display size is exactly the same on the 1030 and the 1000.. So why go for he 1030?
only the housing is 2mm longer on the 1030..?
Have been using the edge 820 for a while now (and a couple of 500's before that). My verdict is that I'll never buy another Garmin head unit again. Way to buggy and the screen on the 820 is horrible. Can't speak for the 1000 or 1030 but I'm not willing to find out. Wahoo, here I come...
The screen on the latest generations (1030, 830) is a massive improvement and much closer to that of a phone in terms of responsiveness. All comes down to how you use the unit - having got or used most of the current and past cycle GPS my default at the moment is the 820 because its my favourite size (that said I would use the 830 if i still had it). Wahoo Roam didn't get a great reception.

The shitty music killed me.
sorry, I don't find weather notifications in my garmin 1000. where are they? thx
I don’t know but leave them alone. I’ve started being notified every 20 minutes a flood is coming. I don’t know how to shut it off. Not a big deal to hit the check mark to shut it off but still annoying
Good facts, awful, awful music.

Dinner is in the dog?
Dog eat a dinner or is there a typo and Dog is the dinner :-D
"Dinner is ready in ten, crack on!" -----> "Dinner is on the table" -----> "Dinner is in the dog"
Your music is so over-mastered it cuts out on every beat. Can you not hear this?
My hearing is not the best but I can't say I've noticed any issue with the audio ?
this music just sucks big time
