In fact no, not at all, they just changed the whole language, and went with their language instead of stick to Latin. Changing Maximus in Masimo is not fitting the setting best.. Italian and Spanish did a shit job at that, the only latin language that fit there is French.
I never said I don't like it, only that it's not because the movie's set in Roma that magically Italian fit better, or spanish just because it has Latin roots. It is just facts, the character would never have said "me chiamo Maximo Decimo Meridio" when Italian language didn't even exist back then. That's just nonsense. Even the French got that right, it says a lot ahah

The famous phrase unleash hell was actually the italian dubber that added that line, or changed because i think the original line was unleash the dogs or something. But ridley scott saw that scene in the italian version and decided to change the original and put the line there too
I don’t know where you got that from, but that’s straight up impossible. Gladiator was shot chronologically and the line about unleashing hell appears near the beginning of the movie. Films are dubbed WAY after the film has already wrapped shooting. Specifically, Gladiator started shooting in January of 1999 and films are dubbed into foreign languages just a few months before release, so probably in the spring of 2000. In short, them changing a line in the actual movie because the Italian dub did something better is a ridiculous claim.

Well in poland many movies (like this) are not dubbed instead we got one pearson reading translated dialogues. It's not bad acting this guys job is to read not act. (and in this particular case he is not even an actor)

The dubbing actors did such a good job (except the polish one) that , if I didn't know that Russel Crow spoke in english, I would have believed that the original language of the moovie was that of the dubber.

The dubbing actors did such a good job (except the polish one) that , if I didn't know that Russel Crow spoke in english, I would have believed that the original language of the moovie was that of the dubber.
