  • This video is all footage on the second day of flying my Mooney immediately following the previous videos. With my fiance we flew up the Hudson to Orange County Airport to get some lunch at Rick's Cafe. Then we went over to Blairstown to pick up my brother and do some glider flying. And finally we returned to Linden.

@MrGsheperd The Mooney is simply the best single engine four seat airplane there is. The real question isn't if a Mooney but which kind of Mooney! Mooneys are fast, economical, and well engineered. I can fly as fast as a Bonanza on 11 gallons an hour vs 15. On the other hand, throttled back I can burn less gph than a skyhawk going full blast and still be going faster (120ktas on 7gph vs 105ktas on 8 gph for skyhawk). Useful load is incredible, 987lbs! Mooney is wider than others too!

What kind of cruise speed to you average in the mooney. and what fuel burn, and what model is yours?

    Linden Airport.
They used to build F4F Wildcats across the street at the GM factory and taxi them across Rt 1&9 to the airport.
    Nice flying young man.

I am looking at a J model here soon myself after flying an older Arrow. We flew the corridor right after storm Sandy and did the coast lines, it was the best way to view the incredible damage. Safe flights. I enjoy your vids, no stupid music in the background.

I'm buying a Mooney Ovation 3. I took one trip in a Mooney and was hooked. Great video.

I tried flying the South Shore route at night (which I've done before the storm) to view the damage. But as I reached roackaway, I couldn't see a thing it was so dark that I inadvertently flew into actual instrument conditions. The place was so dark (and it was an overcast night) and being over the water, couldn't see a thing! At 500ft that was nuts so while I could still see Coney Island behind me, I did a 180 and got out. Couldn't believe how dark it was.

@ 1:22 watching two guys run off with your black ramp box..... Last seen in a unknown make white pickup truck. Sign on the side of truck reads, "We sell Boxes!"

@SoarBird134 Thanks for that. Very nice airplane!! I knew Mooney was very economical and well rounded but had always thought it was a bit tight inside. Kinda like a sports car really. I've flown up ,"Pin Ball Alley," (Hudson) quite a few times, and been to Blairstown too. Learned at SMQ. Thanks again for the advise and your video. Lets see some more.

Main I would hate to live in that beige house under the approach of Runway 9.

True, this is why you don't fly a Mooney on grass. That's where a cub is best :)

You can't compare a SR22 to a M20J. But when you compare to the Mooney Acclaim, Mooney still wins.

I have to beg to differ, the Cirrus SR22 is the best single engine four seat airplane all-round! I'd say Mooney is 2nd.

Yeah, I like Mooneys a lot but I would prefer a Bonanza or Piper Archer if I had the choice. :)

Cool video. Can you tell me what made you choose the Mooney? I'm in the market and am looking for an airplane. How much did you pay? (I know that if I have to ask it's too much). Right now, I'm trying to figure out what the best bang for the buck is. Fixed gear for insurance? Useful load? I you can help I'd appreciate that. I'll keep doing my homework as long as it takes tho...

2 Questions. 1 how high can you go without needing oyxegen. How loud is it with out a headset. 1-10 1 being nothing 10 being like someone yelling in your ear.

    • @Mooney201er
      @Mooney201er  9 років тому

parrot man Generally pilots are required to use oxygen above 12,500. However, depending on your physical health it could be lower. Smokers need it practically from the ground. It's pretty loud but it is possible to fly without a headset. Just can't have a conversation with someone.

The Cirrus isn't as reliable as a Mooney and the Cirrus costs a whole lot more and is slower. Hmm. Makes you wonder what you're investing in now, doesn't it? I can purchase a used Ovation 3 for a few hundred thousand. I'd spend almost six hundred thousand on a used cirrus and it's not as stable a plane.

You should make a conscious effort to taxi land on the center line. You are to left of center- always.
