This is one of the most truly romantic scenes in any movie. It never fails to tear me up. The escalator, the rose, “The Book of Love” playing in the background, “you’ve been dancing with me for 19 years” - true romance, pure and real.
When Richard Gere came up the escalator, I'm sure every woman wished she was Susan Sarandon. I know I did. When I realized the date this film was released, this couple got married the same year as my husband and I, which made this scene really hit home. I watch this clip whenever I can for these reasons. Thank you to the cast, crew and their families for making this film possible. It is true love.
Watching Richard Gere come up from the escalator in a tux and a single rose with Peter Gabriel book of love in the background will never stop being mesmerizing🌹🎶🥲
When hubby and I with our teenage daughter went to see this movie, the house was packed with gentle old ladies! We were the youngest in the cinema and already in our fifties! Wonderful film of which the super tango danced by Gere and Lopez is still played at our dancesport competitions where hubby and I photograph dancers in action! Simply beautiful!
I watched this movie angry. I was angry because I just KNEW he was cheating on his wife in his heart, and I hated that because, as a married man, I wanted him to be better than that. This scene may have been romantic for women to watch because of the handsome Richard Gere in a tux but for me and other men I know, it was a redemption of what we thought was going to be a cheating heart. It was a man choosing his wife above all and remembering why he adored her. I loved that, and it immediately moved this movie to one of my top 10 favorites.
Gammy Faye on Papa Al’s iPad I watched this years back now. This beautiful snippet from the movie will entice me to watch it again. Papa Al and I will hopefully reach our number 63 wedding anniversary July 14, 2024, God‘s plan we accept.
Love this. As my husband was getting sicker from heart + lung disease during lockdown I occasionally slipped into my red dress & played lady in red & danced with him on the balcony. Sadly he died January 2022. Asleep in death awaiting a resurrection back here on earth soon. Looking forward to being reunited with him ❤
I'll tell you a secret: the body dies, the mind doesn't. You can assume, that there will be moments, when it seems to you, that your husband is close to you or even invades your world of thoughts with his thoughts. That's the truth! I know it. And: God is real!
Dance is not about the number of steps or the moves you know . Its always about the connection you make with your partner. Once that magic happens the dance will always be amazing ❤😂🎉🎉

There's no better way to describe the feeling of romance than with this song. My darling and I dance every day when words aren't enough to say I love you since we met each other 💞.
I still remember the wedding I went to when they played this music. A beautiful couple alone on the dance floor making the ultimate commitment to be there for each other for decades to come. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and for a brief, shining moment we all shared in the notion that this was love and it was an honour to be a part of it. They divorced eight years later.

Utterly captivating. He looks so perfect 🥰
So beautiful. So lovingly romantic. Only Richard Gere could pull this together
My mother audibly sighed when she saw this scene. I hope that heaven has such moments for her.
Can’t watch this without a tissue every time. It never gets old. I will have been dancing with my wife 40 years this June ❤
Aww that’s beautiful mate ❤
Congratulations, my late folks also had a June wedding. If they were still with us, they'd be celebrating over 50. They both died in year 38.
Aww.. I love dancing, but no one to dance with now.
I haven't seen this movie, but I love An officer and a Gentleman as well. How lovely that you and your mum watched this movie the day before she died.

Dude might as well have been riding a white horse! Total Prince.
But wayyyyyy sexier.
a Prince Richard Gere
This scene absolutely enchanted me as a teenager 🥰🥰🥰 It was one of the most romantic things I have ever seen at the time 😭😭😭
IT'S NOT THE ROSE , IT'S NOT THE TUX , IT IS HOW HE LOOKS AT HER AND HOLDS HER AND MAKES HER FEEL THAT SHE IS THE ONE AND ONLY !!!!!!
But the other is the icing on the cake...and we all like icing!
This scene was so so perfect ❤
Beautiful indeed
I about cry every time I see that scene with his wife. So beautiful. ❤
A few moments of a truly romantic gesture can live a life time in a woman's memory.
Take note Guys ..its not about the money it is about the thought x
“You’ve been dancing with me for 19 years”

All women need to find themselves a RICHARD GERE. He always has a wonderful ending to his films……THIS IS TRUE ROMANCE

Instead of dancing lessons, Gere should’ve taken chess lessons with J Lo. The movie would be called “What’s your next move?”
😂 😏 Never play chess with a woman because in love and war everything goes.
