- Today we dive into legendary English Alt-Rock Band The Cure. "A Forest" is a single from the band's second album SEVENTEEN SECONDS released in March 1980. It was their debut entry on the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 31.
What Do Ya'll Think ?!
The grooving bass line is what keeps the whole song together. This is one of the Cure's best songs
That is my favorite song from The Cure. Bauhaus... The Cure... good selection.
We can recognize 80's children as they're moving on the Cure's music and rythm, it's juste impossible stay still on this song. That's fantastic !!! Amazing band, mesmerizing Roberts voice and atmosphere !! I'm a great fan since 1981. I ♥️♥️♥️ tour reaction.👍👍👍👍💯💯💯
I agree Bettie ... the cure are pure fun and amazing ❤️❤️😎😎
The longer version of this especially the live ones take this to another level.
Yes, that live album is better than the studio records.
a little bit weed, something nice to drink, a dark room and you think, you can fly...^^
Yeah, seeing this song live takes it to a whole new level.
“It’s such a long song”, lol…
In the 80s I was one of the biggest fan of The Cure, specially songs as "All cats are grey" and "In your house", and I still love them.
THE quintessential Cure song, and my favourite song of all time. Never get tired of it, and it sounds sooooo good live.
Remember where i was when i first heard this...15 at the time. Actually my favorite Cure song. This was what the 80s was really about!
You can't beat that bass.
I just love songs that build up, a great track
He said there’s nothing it’s nothing mind blowing and there’s no sounds you’ve never heard before
But he’s saying that as a young person living in the 2020’s
But in 1980 listening to this for the first time as a 17yr old it was absolutely mind blowing and the riff was crazy and it was 100% a NEW SOUND
Especially when compared with the mainstream rock which still held sway on rock stations across America
I’m taking about The Who, Rolling Stones, LED Zeppelin, Foreigner, AC/DC etc etc
The Cure, Joy Division, The Clash, Siouxsie the Banshee
Gave me a real sense that not only was my life changing
(Graduating from high school and starting my life as an adult)
But music was changing in a big way and the New music really denoted to me and I’m sure many other people my age at the time that it was our generations time and the Punk, Post-Punk and New Wave Bands were our unique soundtrack
Just as the Stones, Beatles and Who had been for the generation before us
Love this song. Never gets old.
I could listen to it for a thousand years continuously without getting tired.
Top class new wave song like no other.
There is nothing more to add.
This was mind blowing hearing it for the first time in 1980
It's totally a badass tune 😎🤘🏼
Great band. Great late late 70's, or early 80's sound. All long gone.
I love your comment on slowing it down and you get Nirvana! I love them! R.I.P. Kurt.
You gotta do the live Wish tour version. It is the definitive live version.
love the cure this song is one of the best, it goes really deep
Stellar song , quintessential post punk track , music actually written in 1979 , I don't think there was anything similar to that earlier, baseline is so influential, u can hear it everywhere after A Forest , great example would be "A hard and a rock place" by Sisters of mercy , modern post punk bands still using same structure, this track is timeless and agreed that live versions taking it to another level, i heard tons of live versions by year..
One of my favorite Cure songs. Takes me back! The version on Mixed Up is my favorite version. You should check out Mixed Up, remixes of their songs.
In the 1980's this was one of the songs we would listen to after we all got stoned. You really get lost in it when you were high. Seventeen seconds I would smoke a joint, then fall asleep while listening to this album. Of course It wasn't until 1985 that this album was sold in the USA.
Love your Vibe 😎 In the US we had to find these imports at local record stores and then pay big time cash to get some of these classics, totally different world today, ha 😎
The version on ' all mixed up" is amazing
yes it is!!!!
That’s a fact ,if you want to go to next level listen to the plati / static mix
Best song of this amazing band. Stellar orchestration, pure harmonics, hypnotic voices with mysterious simple words, spleen ambiance like watching the rain on a cloudy day
Its the upbeat with that dark underbelly.... classic Cure.
Hey guys I love your channel. It’s very interesting to see your son react to older stuff and dad react to more contemporary stuff. 👍🏻
This is one of my Top 5 Cure tracks. Perhaps Top 3. That's a cool shirt Pops.
My visits to Ireland in the late 80's got me into The Cure, they had a huge following their, enough to have segments for The Cure in the towns club.
Fantastic song it’s been covered many times, Clan of Xymox do a great version
Another detail is that the drum in this song is played backwards.
One of their best!
When did the live version it 1979 and he a heavy metal 🎸 guitar 🎸 player and sound great live band that way there in the hall of fame
Oh gawd, I loved them so much in their early days. I still do but always prefer the darker stuff. I saw them in 86' at a small outdoor venue in Canada, in a natural amphitheatre and the guitars just blew me away. They were VERY guitar driven. Just realised as I was listening that I still knew exactly how many times Robert sang 'again', after all these years, lol. I love you two and always look forward to your reactions!
Im going to see their live show in next month...can't wait :)
Way Fab 😎
An all time classic. Seeing them play this on a massive stage in 1990 was something else.
Great song, great reaction
Thx Cheddarhead7 😎🤘🏼
A great track, especially live. In concert the bass line that propels the song along sounds epic!
I love this band . I have all their studio albums.
Brilliant, love it
It takes me back when i was 14.. try to listen the 1984 live version.. pure energy
I`m a huge fan of their music : timeless and brilliant 🙌TOP !
TOP ! 👏
Saw them live in Sydney in '84. So good live and this is one of my all time favs.
Fab show to see 😎
I occasionally chat to Simon Gallup (bassist) and I am getting my vinyl sleeve of A Forest signed by one member very soon!
easily one of their best songs!
Frankfurt, 17 Nov. Cant wait.
That's gonna be one Badass show 😎!!
The Nirvana comment and the response to it were awesome!
Yes! Classic Cure! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
The greatest song they ever did moody and atmospheric never ages a portal to another dimension.
THE CURE FOR THE WIN!
🖤🖤🖤fave cure song 🎵
Great Cure song!
Yesssss. More dark side of the 80s please 😎
I have the seven inch vinyl sleeve of A Forest signed by original keyboardist Matthieu Hartley and you don't! 😂🎉
C
I like more this song in concert, is another level.
I feel like Ty might enjoy some of the songs off of Pornography and Faith a lot. To me those are The Cure at their most gothic rock. Seventeen Seconds already started that and A Forest was a big one for sure. I still listen to this song a lot on gloomy days in particular.
The trilogy was the move from New Wave to Cold Wave
Hi,,, greeding from Germany... Try the version.. :,, Smoke Blow - a forest, live 2006 Pumpe,,.... 🎸🎸🌪️Loud.... (or their cover:RebellYell - Billy Idol... This Band normal is a hard Core Punk.... Lot of fun at their Gigs... 🤘Enjoy with a german 🍺... Or 2
Now that you are Cured you might like to try The Cocteau Twins, The The, The Banshees and New Model Army.
a little bit weed, something nice to drink, a dark room and you think, you can fly...^^
Primary and Hanging Garden are 2 other great older hits
If you want to react to more songs which established the template for what became "Goth", I suggest "Bela Lugosi's dead" by Bauhaus.
Yeah. This song is iconic « New Wave ».
"extra texture" - make a great band name
You would love Joy Division 🤔
Goth music is the best
Simple and pure - from three visionary boys.
4. Matthieu Hartley is the keyboardist here.
The Cure were post-punk. They were never a Goth band. That came later on in the 80s. The term Goth was used to describe any rock music with dark lyrics prior to the genre existing. The Doors were even called Gothic Rock for their music in the 60s by a journalist along with Bauhaus, The Velvet Underground, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division who have nothing to do with the goth subculture whatsoever except arguably being an influence.
Interestingly they (well Smith really) didn't look goth during their goth rock era (1980-82). It's only when they went more pop in 1984, that he began looking more goth (those MTV video times).
Good Point 😎
LOL YOUR LUCKY TO HAVE A SON WITH SUCH A GREAT EAR. HE OBVIOUSLY HASN'T BEEN BRAIN WASHED BY NIKI MINAJ. LOL
True Dat
The sound was so avant-garde…..the hippies n all the doors fans cant accept it… 80s new wave been disgrading by old grumpy critics grandpa from those day ….. i feel sorry for them .. hey look at the weeknd today sound…..in your face the oldgranny who said 80s just only computer music…
We totally agree 😎 Fab point 👍🏼
I don't want to be friends with anyone who doesn't like The Cure lol!
Just have to love the highly out of tune melodica in the background
Not goth, its new wave
no
Its not goth music, it's never been classed as goth
