- "But you are Blanche, you are in that chair!"
Bette Davis is perfect as the decaying former child star, torturing her captive sister in increasingly villainous ways.
Makeup: Joan Crawford = normal person; Bette Davis = female version of The Joker.
Bette purposely did her own make up. How cool is that
Ya go that wrong loser.
Joan Crarword adopted kids for the wrong reason. And Christina called her out on it.
Normal?? Yeah loser. only in the movie.
Sadly, only one of them could act. The one that got the Oscar nomination.
Bette Davis is brilliant in this film!!!
Amen!!!!
😂😂🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
No, joan's understated , fine , non-kabuki performance outshines drag queens wannabes!
I used to yell that out at work..."But cha are...Blanche" people had no clue....till, I schooled them...
same
I thought Joan Crawford really gave a stellar performance, but it's Bette Davis who really steals the show as Baby Jane. One of the greatest movies I have ever seen!
They were both great! Real stars!
Crawford is okay. But Davis is attached to the character and shines.
Bette Davis overacted here as she did in SO MANY of her films, probably cost her the Oscar for this picture but she deluded herself into thinking that somehow, Crawford initiated some sort of campaign against her, Davis and her paranoia.
Davis didn't ''steal the show'', her role was ''flashier'' aka more expressive and therefore attracting attention to begin with
hahahahahahha "BUT YA ARE BLANCHE YA ARE IN THE CHAIR"
These two hated each others guts in real life. Crawford was so worried that Davis would actually hurt her that she requested a stunt double.
Yes.
you probably know this already but ther's a great tv series about the conflict between two of them, its called "Feud"
rick2112rkrk Joan got her pay back at the Oscars

Knowing how much they hated each other in real life and all the bullshit they pulled on each other during the making of this very movie just makes it an even better experience.
teespazz289@gmail.com
Not to mention that it probably wasn't real hard to act in this flick, cuz from what I've read....they both kinda had that mentality in Hollywood. So basically they were acting like themselves.
looks and sounds like you bought into all the "bullshit" put forward, without any real proof, from each star's respective gay male fan base, these two women were at the end of the day, pros, they may not have liked each other but were always professional to each other on set, where it really counted.
Why the hate?
@@micahwilliams1449 It started over a guy named Franchot Tone
Bette Davis is absolutely amazing as the paranoid and creepy Baby Jane Hudson .If you watch the movie , her performance will stay with you .Well , at least that's what happened to me .
You didn't eat your Din Din.
Joan doesn't get enough credit for this one. Her "that would be wonderful" is heart-breaking.
They were both great in this movie... but the villain's acting usually steals the show imo. Bette Davis was so crazy and creepy in this.
Insane, psychotic not ''crazy''.
So excited for "Feud" premiere in March.
Anastasia Romanov what's that?
Jessikah Ann-Mariè the TV show about Bette and Joan beef that they had with each other. First episode just aired tonight.
"It's not me that needs a doctor, Blanche!" LOL!!! Bette so deserved to win the Oscar for this. She gives a masterful, unforgettable performance that acting students can learn from. When she descends into madness in the end, few actresses today could pull it off the way she did!
Mark Whitman yes I will give it to you that Bette's performance in this film was unforgettable and undeniably stellar. but I personally feel that Ms Bancroft's performance as Annie Sullivan in the Miracle Worker was far more worthy of the Oscar because The Miracle Worker is a monument to how a disability can't hold someone back and that even a disabled person can go against the odds. If you haven't seen The Miracle Worker with Anne Bancroft I highly recommend it, the ending scene always brings tears to my eyes. Miracle Worker and Baby Jane are two completely different movie masterpieces, but I think Miracle Worker has more significance. But I do respect your opinion.
@@klassicalmuzik Except that disabilities and chronic illness DO hold you back or at least make you life SO much more difficult. I'm not saying that person with this can't achieve great things, of course they/we can - but be realistic and admit it can and does hold people back and complicates many things for you. I have chronic debilitating illness so I know.
It's not me that needs a doctor Blanche lol
the two actually HATED eachother off set
God! What an actress!!!!Bette Davis, the best ever! Crawford is fabulous too, but in this movie Bette simply got the chance to surpass herself, being a innocent girl and a hag simultaneously. What a brilliant movie!!!!!
Bette's mouth and Joan's eyebrows!!!
+Renee Bloggs lol , drags
In a scathing letter Bette supposedly wrote to Joan, she called her eyebrows caterpillars and said it was time for them to turn into butterflies
Davis , the best actress ever
NO DOUBT.
+Brooke Hanley you right !!!
+daniel torres Kathy Bates, Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, SIssy Spacek, Samanta Morthon, Glenda Jackson , Teresa Wright, Thievy are too, what do you think ????
They are all great and there some more of them, however, Bette is the real thing. she is a myth. There's Kathrin Hepburn too, but still, Bette is the real thing. She has it all in one glance, drama, compassion, innocence. whatever. She can be ugly and beautiful at once. She was also lucky to have had wonderful roles to play. Nowadays there are no miracles....................
The greatest actress ever
... but cha arr, ya arr, ya arrrrrrr Blanche .... ya arrrr in that wheel-chair !!!!!
It’s the psychological torment Jane puts Blanche through that is particularly horrifying and just makes you feel heartbreaking terror for the both of them. It’s such a disturbing movie
And the torment that Blanche put her through and drove her insane.
@@Jays6926 It’s a damning relationship
Joan crawford is my idol
I just got two sister lovebirds from the animal shelter. Couldn't think of names for them. They are so mean and spiteful to each other. Then it hit me: Jane & Blanche!
this brought me here from RuPaul Drag Race Alaska and Alyssa
doo wah doo wah

I see hints of Bette Davis in Streep's work
Who u think she was inspired by?
Joan Crawford brought class and glamour to the big screen, Bette Davis brought grit.
Both fantastic!
Who's watching this because of FX's feud?
Excellent show ! Watched it recently again it captured this movie brilliantly
@ 1:44 her eyes are scary as hell!
You can say that again. Ive watched this movie over and over since the 60's and never tire of it. A true classic!
Never seen acting comparable to what this movie produced, such amazing actresses!
All the later others are imposters.
@@brookehanley3659 What? There ARE many great actors in this day and age too!
Apparently they hated each other in real life so what you see on the screen is real animosity this created a fantastic atmosphere throughout which made which was captured on screen making this movie one of the great classics
Alaska and Alyssa brought me here. This is the second time Alaska brought me to Hollywood Classics. Thank you Alaska.
Alaska is a Goddess!

Francois Alistaire get it together queen! Start doing yer homework and stop stealing or takimg from other queens. Yer just a lazy homosexual. How can you watch drag race and not know if these things!?
" IT'S NOT ME THAT NEEDS A DOCTER BLANCHE! " B.D
Both are great actors but Bette Davis talent is gigantic!
Knowing their past beef and controversy this makes the scene that much more emotional and sincere
Bette Davis is honestly stunning
omg i love the accent ^_^ wish we still spoke like that :( and this film is very creepy...never seen it before
One of the best movies ever ❤ great acting. Bette Davis truly deserved an oscar :(
I think Crawford deserved it. Her performance is simply great, an immense demonstration of artistry with a magnificent economy of means, a minimalism forced by the role itself. And the masterful final monologue as well as the stairs-scene which implied a whole body acting. Davis was great here. But Crawford... was Crawford!
@@lorenzopone869 both of them were absolutely incredible
Joan is great in this film, the contrast between Blanche and Jane are perfect
This old movie freaked me the hell out!
I love the eye rolling at 1:37
Alaska
I still really love this film. It still frightens me to death
My favorite movie of all time. There has been no other since this was produced to come close or equal to it!
Yesssssss.
when camp is done with such conviction it can only work brilliantly......astounding how she performs and acts with every muscle of her face.....
This movie is a masterpice! i hope they never do a remake! Shure it would be wonderful if the younger generation experience this tragic story! But Joan and Bette are the only ones who can pull this script off and make it good and not a comedy.
+Robin Lindqvist They did a ramake :(
+oaetk It sucked
They're covering a portion of it in the forthcoming season of "American Horror Story". Susan Sarandon will play Bette Davis and Jessica Lange will play Joan Crawford.
..um no it's its own show called "FUED" not American Horror Story related.
Mad V I JUST SAW IT AND ITS BOMB!!
Amo esse filme.... Perfeito do começo ao fim
Hi. I see lots of comments and what I'm asking is posted in the thread of 600+, if so I'm sorry to repeat. But the music in this scene is so enhanced, did you add music from the OST? If so where did you get it? It's one of my all time fav 'unreleased scores. PM me if you can't respond here. Thanks.
I find this movie really horrible. not in a bad way, it's such an amazing film, but it's just so sad to watch. the performances are too real
I saw this movie when I was 9 years old. It was the scariest movie and so intriguing. it sparked my interest in movie making and movies as an art form. Betty
Davis was a brilliant actress. She could even show her emotion through her eyes better than any actor I know. The part in the parlor with Edwin Flag whom she undoubtedly had an instant crush on. Her eyes softened and her look became demure and vulnerable; borderline lustful. The best thriller/horror movie and without blood or gore !
Too scary for a ten year old to see.
Shit gets dark!!! I didn't see it until well in my 20s when it was an established camp classic. Can totally see me being scared at 10!
When I first saw this movie, I was less than 10 years old and I just wondered why Jane was so mad at her, kicking Blanche on the floor like that - the scriptwriters went a little too far; in the novel she was slapping her only. What scared me as a kid was the movie"King's Row", when Drake's legs were amputated for no reason.
would you believe Betty Davis and Joan Crawford hated each other when filming this movie,
+Sarah Gregory yes, their feud is well known
+windstorm1000 yeah.
Jane a sarky cow and Blanche a unsure lady!😣
Sinistro!
E Glenn Close e Cate Blanchett, não podemos esquecer essas duas atrizes espetaculares.
"feud" brought me here
Dooh-ah doo-ah
I just love her when she says "Blanch":)))
Classic!!! Bette Davis PLAYED this role...!! She was my favorite actress of that time. I know her character in this is supposed to be sinister and twisted, but I absolutely crack up laughing every single time I watch this... She just snapped!
Bette é melhor atriz de todos tempos.Provou. Com baby Jane merecia o oscar
ya aren't ever sellin this house Blanche, and ya aren't ever leaving it either................
The finger point that goes along with that line! You have to think Bette improv-ed that.
Like the captain telling Mister Roberts he'll never get off that ship either...
Watched this for the first time about a year ago and I've gotta say it is fantastic.
this is sooo spooky... with out blood, knives or guns.. I feel like I could be locked in a room having to deal with her 'spooky" conversations. I HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS WHOLE MOVIE.. THIS IS ACTING!!!
That scene is what made me want to see the movie too. It's an excellent movie!
god bless this movie
I did not know BD made a cameo in this. It is very sad how she broke her mother's heart decades later.
i love all these olsd movies dont make movies like this no more
I love that line: " Butcha are Blanche, ya are still in that chair!" LMAO
My Dad and I just watched this film for the first time ever on Turner Classics. What an amazing film it kept us entranced until the last frame.
it is fucked up how in feud joan did not let bette win best actress. i think she should have won she played a crazy and creepy ass character.
Its not me who needs a doctor blanche
You could actually feel the hatred between these two.
Its the 2nd time its on in a week! what a great old film!
Man the hatred and bitterness between these two is so thick...
As the cliche say's they just make them like this anymore, great.
Still very powerful performances⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
These are two brilliant women in acting of all times. I enjoy watching them bring characters to life. It is timeless and breath taking. Standing ovation!
just seen it, Bette Davis was a phenomenal actress, i'm speechless
Anyone else watch this and laugh?
Agree -- while she's listening to Jane, you can see her breathing heavily as if she's struggling with anger and frustration, in other words, Joan Crawford is able to convey a lot without even saying anything. Both actresses were great in this classic movie.
These two women were amazing.
"But ya are, Blanche, ya are in that chair!!!" I LOL everytime!!!!
Love Joan and Bette no others in Hollywood came close to these QUEENS! THEY ARE LEGENDS!
this was the movie my mother was watching on TV in 1967 when she started to go into labor with me. IS it any wonder I wanted to get out of there--
Shiieet you expect Breakfast at Tifanny?
Stunning performance from Bette Davis.
The film score is perfectly timed with each line of dialogue.
Of A Human Bondage , Now Voyager, All About Eve, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte and The Nanny are the best films what Bette Davis Made
What about "The Letter", "The Little Foxes" and "Jezebel"?
Ya and them
My Dad RIP used to call me n my sis Jane N Blanche..Karma just bit her ass
Me and my sis and she's called Jane.....
I always shout out randomly "Is she wild?" fave line (apart from "you weren't ugly then"
Im here from House of Wax
"It's not me that needs a doctor, Blanche!"
Brilliant Black ND white movie of all time Both Women legends Better Davis and Joan Crawford brilliant Acting.
BOTH women are fabulous in this movie. Joan is 4 years older than Bette and Bette looks old enuf to be her mother. LOL
Bette Davis chose the outrageous makeup herself to further emphasize the outrageousness of her character.
I love how the expressions on her face change when she's looking out the window, as she prepares to turn and deliver that line.
Perfect movie!!
Awesome movie! I remember watching it when I was young. It reminds me of "Psycho" now!
you don't like it now Joan Crawford how you abused that child you adopted in (mommy dearest ) if normal people did that we would go prison , ullammanti always ignore superstars who abuse kids even there own kids
It's been so long since I've seen it, but I feel like: maybe it's true Jane earned the money? I find Crawford seems oddly manipulative here.
Madison Cawthorn brought me here.
Just kidding; he can't do much of anything.
Poor baby Jane’ she just cracked up !!!
I think it's also because it's such a scary line that shows how sinister and twisted she is - That she doesn't care how Blanche got in the chair, she just cares that it makes her a powerless hostage. It shows that she plans to continue torturing Blanche because she IS "in that chair!" and so helpless.
The Clinton-Trump campaigns are starting to remind me of this movie.
One of the most revealing & evocative scenes in the movie, most definitely
What an incredible film, classic, never fails to entertain, and amaze me as to how superb these 2 great actresses were. And thanks to film, STILL are. M
