    Bette Davis did her own makeup for 'Baby Jane.' The super stars of her era learned from the best studio makeup guys, so she was able to elaborate just how scary she would come across on the screen. The fact it was filmed in black & white served to intensify the madness. Thank director Robert Aldrich for giving Ms. Davis the freedom to exploit insanity. Just brilliant.

    This is the saddest moment of the film. I feel compassion for Jane. She is a grown up woman acting as a little girl. We realised that Jane is completely insane in a horrible way. And the music helps a lot. The tune is supposed to be charming and sweet, and performing by Bette Davis becomes grotesque and poignant.

Well now Jane is an "old woman" and she is singing a song about Daddy being in heaven (which her Daddy is obviously passed away at this point in the movie) and it is like she is reaching her hand up towards heaven dancing with her Daddy (if that makes sense)

    I honestly felt sick watching this scene. I felt such compassion and such revulsion towards Jane as I watched and listened to her singing, I even shed a few tears for her. Insanity and the fear of being forgotten is horrible, but Bette Davis acted it so masterfully.

    I love her siging in this it's not that it's the best siging because trust me it's not it's just her voice matches what the character is putting out as a innocent young child.

      Jane is not supposed to have a good voice at this stage, she’s supposed to sound bad, it’s only she thinks she’s still a star, so Bette singing it like that fits the scene.

    • @shaaronie
      @shaaronie Рік тому

      Yeah, that's it! She sings it in a child-like way! It's the way that she says "dad-dee. She really hits that 2nd syllable.
