I just saw Nile at the Byron Bay Blues Fest and he blew me, my wife and daughter off the charts. Such a humble, honest vibe from the man, but with energy flowing to the audience with waves of his passion and joy of playing these songs. We were so lucky to be on the rails and were mere metres away from him and his funky Chic crew. He mentioned the press called them a "covers band" and then reminded the crowd about a few artists and tunes he'd penned and/ or arranged, and we're talking a only few. Thank you Nile and your influence on our world of sound, in the past, present and future. and as a musician/ educator I will pass on your legacy. Much love.
Thank you for running this...I have been a serous Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards fan since I was a 13 year old in '77 who saved up my paper route money to buy the 1st Chic album...I was teased back then on how much of a fan I was of all of their music...I followed them to the other artists that they both produced into my early 20's...I have never met Nile & pray that I get a chance to since I can't meet Tony Thompson & Bernard Edwards (I'd love to meet Alfa Anderson & Luci Martin also)...great venue & thanks again.
carl benson same here, a little before my time but my dad played their albums and at a young age I knew they were special. They were tapping into something, that thing that special musicians tap into
Wow, very similar to myself. I was 14 in the 9th grade towards the end of 1977. At that time, I liked Chic's first single "Dance, Dance, Dance", but I had no idea how special they were until a couple of months into 1978 when I heard "Everybody Dance". Then in the summer I heard their production on Norma Jean Wright's " Can't wait till Saturday".... I've been a life long fan since...
The more he talks the more i'm blown away. I recognized Nile from different pictures/videos but this is the first time I've actually looked into who he is. To think i'm only watching this because I got a turntable, found a copy of The Chic Organization going cheap on ebay, recognized the name "Chic" and decided to look up "who this Nile guy is". His repertoire is on another level! This man is responsible for the funkiest and most uplifting funk/disco music I've heard in my life that I didn't even know he was a part of creating.
You can tell he's such a music fan that he can't believe his success and that he has all these cool stories. I could talk to this dude for hours and hours.
The interviewer is a typical tech guy, not a music person. He would run any conversation with anyone similarly…. On the flip side Nile is again very entertaining, brilliant and clear in his passion for music
I love 'Talks At Google' !!! I had no idea who Niles Rodgers was and am flabbergasted. Best question came from the girl who asked about the guitar, kudos! It's the musician, not the instrument that makes one great. Love that he plays a '59 "not to factory specs" guitar! Cheers
I think I heard him say "If your Music makes you feel really good, hopefully it will make other people feel really good too" and "Now that's fun to play!"... definitely some other parts in there too
carl Benson you and I must be around the same age, I am now 55 and I used to do the same thing. I would buy sweatshirts and have the word chic ironed on them. I even learned how to play the bass like my hero bernard, got a group together and dressed like chic. Even though i never met them or got the chance to see them in concert, They were very instrumental in My teenage years and kept me out of trouble to the point my friends would call me weird because I did not want to hang out with them, just play chic music. they would walk past me and say hey sharon....chic chic and start laughing. yeah I know I was on a mission but if I had it to do all over again, i wouldnt change a thing. Thanks for your comments my brother in chic.🎶🎶🎶
I agree. And age has nothing to do with it. The interviewer works for a company that gathers and aggregates information. Somebody could have conducted research on Rodgers for him. Disrespectful.
Meh, the interviewer being young and not as knowledgable about Nile makes it much more accessible to a young generation, who is not as knowledgable about Nile. Also, google gave him a nice sized check as they do with their google talks guests.
Wow! Nile worked with Sesame Street! He must have met Wally, one of the original Sesame Street Band members. His best friend was the Snuffleupagus. I met Wally in South Andros, Bahamas, where he was bonefishing. We spent several evenings talking about music. I would love to do the same with Nile. Wonder if he likes fishing?
A great performer, song writer, adapter, guitarist, resurrector of people's careers, etc, but Google the sound on this interview is terrible. It's tinny, Niles braids seem to rub on the mic, and they could do a lot better than this with the audio. But what a legend is Nile Rodgers.
My thought were the same. Obviously time management was a real big issue for him. If you know Nile, you know he answers all questions with a story. i would think they would factor that in before hand.
@@sufyanghani9022 I didn't mean it like that. I meant the interviewer which is what the original post was saying. it helps when you can relate to the times when interviewing someone like Niles. . I didn't mean the music.
Nile Rodgers said in the We are the world video that they turn around to look at him that is not true at all he wasn't even in the picture and i don't think he was even in the studio and no one turn around i dont know why he made that up.

He is great in what he do and did but Nile exaggerated a lot of his stories to make his self sound good but has nothing to back up the stories he tells.
Nile never speaks of Bernard Edwards, the Bassist who crafted one of the greatest Bass lines ever, GOOD TIMES, why is that so? If you guys had your differences, let by-gones be, R.I.P. Mr. Edwards!!!
He worshipped Bernard, he never said anything bad about him. It probably makes him sad to think of his passing. The few times the topic was brought up in interviews he got noticeably sad.
great producer but. habitual liar he never lived in L.A. when he was a kid never cut school for 75 days , notice he couldn't. name one movie he saw and having the lapd. cop. give a 7 year old black kid. a ride to the theatre in the sixties yea right in another interview when he was 14. him and timothy leary drove from ny to san francisco hey kid you wanna go on a trip were already on a trip to sf. no take this pill . total bs
How do you know? I am sure we all embellish stories, and he may have in his older age now, especially coming from a drug addiction background of acid and cocaine, and his parents heroin. Why would he lie? Sesame street apollo grandparents jimi hedriks catholic school movies notes police? He does not have to impress anyone? He has a remarkable story no matter?
I have met Nile and I know musicians in his band. Nile is super down to earth and loves to tell a good story. He had been telling his band a story about how no one showed up to the chic concert in Oakland in the 70s because EWF was in town. My father actually worked as a rodee for that show and told me the same story. When I met his band and told them, they were in total shock that it was true. Nile has no reason to lie, he’s a genuine person.
Willie Magana well, like it or not he has done a lot of great producing and performing. I have seen your name on a marquee, but I have seen it on the back of a toilet seat. Adios!
for how ever long Nile Rodgers can talk, i could listen. The stories and points of veiws are as GREAT as the music!!!
It's knowledge.
I hope he stays off drugs, because we do not need to lose him like so many other celebrities.
@@Tigerex966 I'd hope so too, but that's his life and issue, not ours...
be loving, not intrusive.
yes! he is an amazing guy. plus he has his pick rdy the entire time, truly my man!
What an awesome guy Nile Rodgers is.. I watch everything I can find with him
What a legend. Great songwriter, arranger, producer and above all a wonderful person. God bless Nile!
Nile -one of the nicest, most genuine guys, with a heart of gold…endlessly inspiring to me.

Just bloody awesome! What a guy! I recently bought the new Hitmaker, if I can get anything like these sounds from it I'll be in heaven!
You could listen to Nile Rodgers talking for hours and every second will be interesting.
Not many people who are that deep, insightful, eloquent.
I never knew what Nile's musical background was. Glad he talked about it 🎵🎶🎼
That's fun! ☺
Love our Nile XXX

Nile is, without a doubt, currently one of the FINEST, FUNKIEST guitarists in the music business today. Every musician should listen to him!

The fact that he likes bebop makes me respect him even more :-)
Love Niles!!
What a great guy
class act
I wonder if the kids at Google in the audience picked up on the references to Hendrix, Live Aid, Lionel Richie, Eric Clapton, etc?
How do you interview him and not know that his parents were heroin addicts before asking a question about them omg that hurt to watch
They didn’t Google him.Shocking.
Glad you said this. I got a weird vibe from this interviewer, like not really interested.
They blurred out the Fender Stratocaster logo on the headstock. Weird.
The interviewer is so pitiful. Damn he had no clue who he was interviewing. Damnit its Nile Rodgers! Put some respect on it Google!
Yeah. He's too young also. . Need to have lived the 70's and 80's to really dig what Nile has done and ask good questions from it.
I agree. And age has nothing to do with it. The interviewer works for a company that gathers and aggregates information. Somebody could have conducted research on Rodgers for him. Disrespectful.

Another pretentious ivy league dork executive.
Hillarious that Nile's hair is scratching the mic the entire time. Google audio guys suck.
Poor guy... he wasn't able to really listen to Nile anymore after that "Did your parents push you" mishap :(

Bob Clearmountain on production and delay!
One cool dude, as cool as Keith Richards, who is also a dude. Love listening to his sexy deep talk.

yes it is

there are many camera angles, please link us to the video you are referring to.
I fail to see why you felt the need to mention that - as if anyone but you would care about something as trivial as that
Soooo you were there???
Just checked the live aid video... at least three people turn around just like Nile described.
Good ball
As cool as Nile is, I always thought he has a face like a Labia
im screaming

you can tell hes lying
how?
what does it profit him?
why?

can you be more specific on which ones and back up the story you just told?

Edwards' death was very hard on Nile, they didn't "have their differences", he probably still misses his old friend, that's all
Not so. He does speak of 'Nard in plenty of interviews. He played on the songs, but Nile IS the face of Chic today.
Cyber Spage... if you ask him about his boy trust me, a 1 hour Q&A is not nearly long enough!!!
