What an awesome woman. Quoting 2Pac and wearing pearls while blacksmithing. And Anthony ending the video with talking about how she is a woman to look up to for his young daughter. Heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. May he be resting in peace now.
THIS is the show I recommend when introducing folks to Anthony Bourdain. Elizabeth Brim's soulful conversation, sensitive work, bond with students, is all wonderful - and Bourdain knows to just let it run with a minimum of interruption and an inspired narrative. She's a gracious pro, sharing her talents and skills, inspiring others.
he has left us knowledge of wonderful people doing wonderful things - what a great gift, delivered in such a cool and humble way with an incredibly beautiful voice.
Elizabeth is an amazing woman and artist. We first met her in 2015 at both Fire on the Mountain blacksmith festival in Spruce Pine (down the road from Penland) and then afterwards at Penland School of Arts. I have always loved her ability to create interpretations of items that are delicate. She is just as wonderful in person as seen in this.
This series nearly brings me to tears every episode, with the passion and Raw dedication that these creators bring to their craft, it fills me with Joy! Keep up the Great work.
The inflated metal is something I've never seen before and was pretty interesting since I've been around metal work most of my life. Definitely an amazing woman
its so cool to see such a removed perspective of him and those times as well like she holds no bias towards either situation she just saw him for who he was
Blacksmithing in a string of pearls. Amazing. "I wish I could be a thug." - raises bandana over face. That inflation technique of red hot metal is uber cool but looks dangerous as feck mixing compressed air with super heated metal, especially with no barrier between yourself & the work.
I have heard and read a lot about Tupac and Biggie. I believe this was the first time I have heard someone refer to their beef as "quarreling". How sweet!
Thank you Tony! You gave these fine craftspeople a fantastic platform. I have watched all the episodes a few times and keep discovering something new every time!
I am such a fan of Bourdain's. To have him do this new series is extraordinary. Now adding Elizabeth Brim's story, and Penland, is such a huge boost to the fine craft movement. Hooray Anthony ... makes sense to me! What a great educator you are!
What an absolutely beautiful woman; inside and out. Her passion is addictive and flows right though her work and to her students. Stunning!!! Love this series, thank you Mr. Bourdain
+Oscar Martinez listen to his speech on being called a thug by the media. he says "I'm not saying that I'm a Thug coz I'mma Rob you and rape you! I'm saying I'm a Thug coz I came from the gutter, and I'm still here'"
So she’s a good for nothing parasitic, thieving, violent criminal. et-Al gangster?? Interesting choice. I would dive into the depth of your vocabulary. While there conjure a/an better or even better more accurate descriptor/adverb.
This woman is amazing! Her strength, to cast off the pressures keeping her in a traditional homemaker role, and to go on and fully support herself and then start offering inspiration to others, is just amazing! and the inflating metal was metal!
Wow this series is so underrated. Absolutely awesome biopic type episodes that are such great showcases of each individual and their craft. If I could afford Balvenie on a college budget I would get a case just to show appreciation! Thanks guys!
Just stumbled across this and I know Elizabeth Brim through my high school best friend's brother. He and my as my husband are blacksmiths. This was awesome to watch!!
She's a badass. What an awesome lady! a creative that refuse to leave the place that inspires her. i absolutely identify with that. I want one of those Penland shirts!
I really do miss him, just a genuine person who was really well liked. The impact he had across many different fields. Mental Health needs more investment. The world needs more like him
Beautiful artwork. Beer drinking, Pac listening, late 80's Toyota truck driving woman. I loved every second of this video and I have to find out how I can buy, (afford) one of her pieces.
The method they use to inflate the metal is the same as used in Italy to quarry large blocks of marble, except in Italy the metal is not heated and water is used to expand it, thus separating partially cut blocks.

Great effing story! Elizabeth is awesome... Thank you for bringing her to light!
"The princesses can party forever." That's a pretty damn good line.

Elizabeth is why I love the "art" of blacksmithing. Just the right balance between brute force and delicate artistry.
Rewatching this series because there’s no one that could tell a story like Tony!
The inflated metal is something I've never seen before and was pretty interesting since I've been around metal work most of my life. Definitely an amazing woman

I love the contrast of this lady, pearls and all, with the artistry of her blacksmithing. I think she's amazing!
Fantastic Blacksmith Artist! Thank you for introducing this extremely talented woman to us!
What an absolutely beautiful woman; inside and out. Her passion is addictive and flows right though her work and to her students. Stunning!!!

Fuck what the media said. His actions spoke louder than anything else.
She is tough. She has so much passion. I love this!!
Tupac, blacksmithing flowers. Life.
Word. This is the best series of promotional content, ever.
Dude. This lady is gangster.
So she’s a good for nothing parasitic, thieving, violent criminal. et-Al gangster?? Interesting choice. I would dive into the depth of your vocabulary. While there conjure a/an better or even better more accurate descriptor/adverb.
I love this woman. A beyond middle-aged, female metalsmith and hip-hop fan?! Hell yeah!
This woman is amazing! Her strength, to cast off the pressures keeping her in a traditional homemaker role, and to go on and fully support herself and then start offering inspiration to others, is just amazing! and the inflating metal was metal!
finally, after so much teasing.
What an AMAZING artist, and person...both of them
best episode of this series by far!

I love this woman!! A true inspiration!
This series is so well done.
Tougher and more brilliant than just about anyone I know. A true achiever.
I'm so glad I got to watch this.......
Wow this series is so underrated. Absolutely awesome biopic type episodes that are such great showcases of each individual and their craft. If I could afford Balvenie on a college budget I would get a case just to show appreciation! Thanks guys!

Inspiring! Thank you for sharing!!!
What an 'irony', to make a delicate flower or create a wave from something hard and immovable. Bravo...
this is probably the coolest thing i've ever seen.

Mad respect for this craftsman, er, craftswoman.

Her spirit reminds so much of my mother.

I wish i could be a thug **proceeds to putting on bandana around mouth and face*** hahah

Another great episode... Thx!
I really do miss him, just a genuine person who was really well liked. The impact he had across many different fields. Mental Health needs more investment. The world needs more like him
Certainly something to be said for strong independent self reliant women. I was raised by one along with 3 other siblings. Hat off to you ladies.
Proud of this self sufficient woman
30 seconds into netflix and chill and she gives you that look 9:30
Omgosh I love this lady. She is seriously fascinating
In absolute awe!
Well rounded. Not afraid to explore other cultures positive aspects.
Its too bad there arent more people like her in the world, instead we have an abundance of mouth breathers.
im a woodworker but seeing those works of art and that metal inflawas pretty damn awesome and inspiring! 🍻
Power glass blowing with metal. Pure genius!
Would love a piece of her art!

"I hear you love two-pack"
Those last few words by Anthony hit hard
It's so weird to see Anthony Bourdain walking around my hometown.
Anthony's ear looks like he's up for auction at the cattle market.
Yeah, what is that?
xB-DeathKnell the thing in his ear is a bandage. He must have had cauliflower drained before this was shot.
redbeard19833 ..... he explained it on his Instagram, sewed up from a jiujitsu injury.
This lady is everything right in the world
Great video. Unbelievable seeing the metal inflate
So beautiful.
What an amazing women this Elizabeth Brim is.
