What gets to me about this piece is the fact that it's the title piece. When you download the game and open it up this is the first piece you hear. When you finish the game, it loops back to the title screen, so it's also the last piece you hear. When you first hear it, it's a little jarring, it's mystical, and gives you a sense of ominous foreboding, like you're a lost child about to set off on a journey into a twisted wonderland. And when you last hear it, everything has changed. It sounds more like an empty, hollow 'farewell' tune. The sense of adventure and childish innocence from the start is all gone. The truth that you've seen is yours to keep forever, and you the player are left alone to reflect upon the weight of the sins that you've unwittingly helped to commit.
it hurts to listen to this. bc agreeing with CypherDVoid here, this song is the music I always heard as i eagerly came to play the game. i never suspected such an ending would come here, and this music, whith the tone of mischief inclined in it, almost is mocking us for not seeing through this game and agreeingly killing viola. in the beginning, it carries an enchanting tone that leads for a fun game, and the end it just sort of dawns on you that what you did is unfixable.
On an interesting note, Viola’s name originates from flowers in the violet family, which are purple in coloration. While Ellen’s name comes from the word “sunshine” or “light”, which are known to have a yellowish hue. So Viola’s name has nothing to do with a certain string instrument. Their names actually serve as vague foreshadowing to the body swapping later on. Pretty sad, now that I think about it. Almost as if Viola’s whole existence and being was destined to switch places with Ellen...
@Millie Fisher Viola’s originally a blonde and Ellen’s hair used to be purple. As you probably know, they end up switching bodies. So now it’s Ellen with blonde hair and Viola with purple hair. Their names are foreshadowing since it describes the colour of the other character’s hair before the switch.
There's got to be some type of symbolism with a title like that. Perhaps "chair" is used metaphorically. Remember how a chair laughs at that story when the dog is shot by it's owner? Similarly, Ellen laughs when Viola is shot by her own dad. I think the chair is connected with the witch. The name "Lost Chair" might signify Ellen. Ellen used to be alone and had nobody to help her, until Viola came along.
Actually... it's not that deep. This music is from a royalty free music website. The song itself is just called "lost chair". That website hosts music that also appears in Mad Father and Ib.

Good ol' days. 👍 I wouldn't mind these games making a comeback in popularity someday. I'd even make one myself, if I only knew how.
I just can't stop crying. The true ending was really depressing ... I mean, after all your efforts on trying to get out of the Witch's House it ends with Viola being in the Witch's body (Ellen's) and vice versa. When the father shoot Viola I was like, oh why!? But I guess that is what makes it a amazing horror RPG game. Such a twist plot can't be seen on many other RPGs, and that's something I like about The Witch's House.
Yeah I feel you, if I was there when it happened I would be rushing up to Viola, then I'd bend down hold her in my arms and a moment later I'd start sobbing for her, poor Viola.😔
Neutralized Kumiho well you see Mad Father had an interesting gaming style and story line that I found to be better than The Witch’s house, I mean for one which hits your heart more a girl whose body got switched with a witch or a girl who ventures into the unknown areas of a twisted version of the home where she grew up in to go save her father only to find out that it was the mother in whom she loved is the one who took away her father
Regardless of whether you're familiar with The Witch's House or not, this song just has the kind of melody that makes you want to sob. It's sort of like the game itself; at first it's not too bad and makes you think, "oh, it's pretty and kinda creepy too", but then it eventually gets more agonizing with each second. And near the end, the tune gets more powerful, similar to the reaction a player gets when witnessing the true ending. It truly is a tearjerker, in my opinion. I love this game a lot, and the music just makes it so much better.
This song represents the house. Initially, when you start the game for the first time, the song sounds calm. Serene. Inviting. It's so soothing that even if you know bad things will happen, you can't help but start playing. It's the same with the house. On the exterior, the house is calm and silent. Even as desolate and far away from civilization as it is, you feel compelled to enter. But after you finish the game, you'll realize entering, both the house and the game itself, was a mistake. The song turns bittersweet and melancholy. It's the same song, of course, but now you view it in a different light. But there's no going back. You already took the plunge and you have to live with what you've experienced and accept the truth. You have to keep moving forward.

Pack up your stuff, kids!! We're going on a Feels Trip!!
*_yAy_*
This is so pretty! ^w^
I think this song is inspired by Ennio Morricone "Love Theme (Cinema Paradiso)", just listen to it. Anyway, both songs are so fuckin' great.
YES! I heard that Cinema Paradiso love theme on the radio and immediately thought of Witch's House
Nice! xD
The best song for all time
I've heard the first five seconds of this quite a few times!
I need a 10 hour version of this song.
Remember when i’m preparing for license exam and put this on repeat while reading.
It was like 4000 loops in total.
Nice.
This song describes my life; empty, somber, and devoid of any attempt at retribution. A lost cause.....a cursed soul forever in limbo between despair and agony....
I ♥ this theme, but, unfortunately, not everyone feels that way. My 12 year old sister just called it s***. Kids have no appreciation for this music, and I'm only 15 (almost 16), and fell in love with this theme when I was 14.
+Elisabeth Heiman I always loved this too, I love the Ib´s and The Witch's House's OST since I have 12 years old (Especially Ib's OST)
Mario Burgos Yeah, my twelve year old sister is now fourteen years old, and she likes it now. She calls it beautiful, but sad. I'm currently 17 years old now, and I still love it.
You should teach your little sister proper manners.
MOTHREFUKCING WEISS GUERTENA BITCHES WHAT UP Well, this happened almost two years ago, and as I already said, she likes it now. Maybe it's something that happens only when you get older, though if I heard this song at the age of 12, I think that I would still like it.
Elisabeth Heiman Just because she changed her opinion of one thing doesn't mean she will for everything.
this song reminds me so much of the soundtrack of the old(er) Japanese TV dramas that usually aired in the afternoon. It also reminds me of a part of the A Bridge Too Far Theme (accidentally mistyped Bridge Too Fat.. lol). Anyone else?
この曲、ニューシネマパラダイス感あって好きなんだよな
ふみーて割と才能あるよな
Appears in Mikoto Nikki too!
Would anyone happen to know the song that plays where the "talkative plants" are? It's a very lovely piano piece.
The frog riddle was the massive spoiler of the entire story and ending
When the frog became infatuated and had to be pushed into a steel door as a sacrifice
2020 people o/
we're friends...
Richt... Viola...?
Wendy Dee
Yes of course dear Ellen!
I will be always by your side, even in your dying breath
I wish there just was way to take your place...
this post.... you both-- I can't even..;u;
NO VIOLA! DON'T TRUST HER! PLEASE!
Mary No! Not Winnie the Pooh bear! NOOOOOOOO- oh wait, nah u good. As long as its not a psychotic girl in bandages with long purple hair.
+Tomatoa shin Tamatoa? That giant narcissist crab in Moana? I loved that guy!
This music is realy nice
This is the song of rage. The song after and before game over, the one you hear when you know you have failed. But in truth, every time you fail, the good Viola wins. So listen to this song a lot, and be happy for yet another victory for Viola.
Errrr.......you read the book right?
If this ever gets an anime , this song would fit the opening
Helps me to get sleep
