Mercedes 560 SEC
What a beauty. Not only in looks but also in engineering. Nice Cruiser. But still fast
Mercedes 560 SEC is build from 1985-1991. The W126 SEC is Build from 1980 -1991. In 1985 there was a facelift model and also a change in the engine's that where availible. Berfore the facelift there where a 3.8 and a 5.0 V8 availible. After the facelift a 4.2 5.0 and the 5.6. This 5.6 is a stroked 5.0 engine so the crankshaft is different. In the W126 SEC models there was no 6 inline or diesel engine availible.
The V8 in the W126 has a long live . The life starts When the 3.5 M116 was change to 4.5 in 1969 and this was the first M117. At this point it was still a iron engine block. Up till 1978 this was the only M117 engine on the Market. This engine is used in the R107 and the W116. In 1979 the W126 came on the market with the new Alusil 3.8 and 5.0 engine.
All the W126 cars where delivered with 279mm brakes in the back and 300mm brakes in the front. Front and rear where 2 pot calipers. When looking to the 560 model. This model is almost always deliverd in full options. like leather and a full electrical interior. with aircondition and sliding roof.
For the engine is a M117 is a Alu sil engine blocke that is meaning that about 20% of the block is silicium. With a special honing process this honed to the right size with special paste. This is removing the aluminum from in between the silicum this is giving a mat looking finishing. This is much different then a steel liner. A alusil liner is very hard and can last very look but needs regular oil change to keep the engine healthy. The engine is a SOHC engine with 2 valves per cylinder engine code is M117.968. exact capacity is 5547cc
Fuel system that is use is KE-jectronic Bosche fuel system. The engine came in 3 version ECE, RUF and KAT . The ECE is a EUropean version with no emission regulations and was avalible from 1985-1987 this was a high output version with 299HP and 455NM . The RUF version is a version that can be build back to a KAT version if need from 1985-1987 this had 270HP and 430NM. The models after 1987 where high output version with 299HP and 455NM. The KAT version had from 1985-1987 242HP and 390NM.After 1987 the car had 279HP and 430NM
In the US,AUS and Japan, all version where low output KAT version with 242HP and 430NM. All lower output version Lower then 279hp had a compression ratio of 1:9. From of 279HP and up the engine had a 1:10 compression ratio. on KAT version also Knock sensor where on the engine
Mercedes 560 SEC has a 722.3 4 speed automatic transmission with code .323 and .350 the .350 was and updated version of the .323 . 0-100kph is possible between 7.6 and 6.9 sec . Depends on the model and weight. Weight of the car is in between 1750KG and 1820KG

For me in the U.S. it is the 86/87. I was a Benz mechanic for 17 years and those are my faves.

You can't get even that with today engines! 12-13 l / 100 km with gentle driving.

Strange placement of the I on the speedo at 56km/h as the 1st gear goes ~ 75km/h. II and III are right and I miss those markers in newer cars. Also we call any 126 THE ONLY SHAPE THAT EXISTS!
I have seen the same Thing but maybe that is the difference between full throttle E or S mode . In the S mode IT Will rev further . En mode is 500rpm less in most gears . But did nog try that
@@JMSpeedshop I don't think that's the case, other 560 SEC models have their 1st gear marker around 66-67kmh. Do a Google image search, and you'll see what I mean. It appears this gauge's markings are similar to lower-end models. I wonder if this car in your video had a guage swap, maybe to show lower KMs?

Ooit eens in een witte 560 SEL gereden. Met 200 per uur nog even de hoofdsteunen (elektrisch) verstellen !!! Dat was zo'n ECE uitvoering en ik geloof bouwjaar 1989 maar weet dat niet zeker.
Die SEC is mooi maar voor mij enkel in dat donkere grijs.
Mooi ece is wel de top versie vind ik lekker alles open en vol vermogen.

I took a look at the seller's website. They want 53K Euros for this. It is in very good condition, but you can get this car for much cheaper in the U.S. It might need some work, but if you found a good mechanic it would still probably be less expensive.
This car is like new and a European version is word a lot more the. A US version. US models are build more. A 560 sec is pretty rare because IT was much more expensive from new Then in the US. This price is high . But You Will get a lot of car for that money
Yes you are right, but this is for the European market, and here the 560 SECs are gaining value rapidly. Now it's very normal to see people asking 20k regardless of the kms. So 53k doesn't seem out of reason. Luckily my father bought one in 2001 for 6k😂. Blau Schwartz with palomino interior, my favorite combo.

i counted much less than 7.4 sec to 100km/h... more like 6.9 sec. in my clock!!!! watching that sec makes me forget about which sec im talking about anyway!!!

Volgens mij is het andersom. die waarde van 7 betreft het aantal kilometers per liter (1 op 7). Dus 13.5 liters...per 100 km. Bij vlot rijden kom je al snel bij 1 op 5 uit. Als je de hele tijd zo sportief onderweg bent (7.4 seconden naar 100 is echt goed, gezien de leeftijd) zul je eerder naar 1 op 3 neigen, schat ik persoonlijk!
ja 1ltr op 7 klm. 7.4 sec is niet slecht maar de auto heeft maar 52k gelopen dus dat is ook best weinig.

Air suspension?
No . C126 had standard rear hydraulic self lieveling suspension. In the front the se and wel had the option for the front . As far as i know the sec did not have front self leveling suspension as An option
The 560SEC came with self levelling suspensions, not available on the 420 and 500
