I can hand on heart say that is one of the best UA-cam videos I have ever seen. From the way it was put together, to the whitty banter and also your display of grit and determination it's was just fantastic. I absolutely loved the overarching message Mike and I can 100% agree.....the trail running community is incredible. Just wanted to say how much i loved the video...I have only ever done half a dozen london2brighton ultra challenges but watching this has made me want to step up another level and give next years NDW100 a go (especially now i know the route passes along my happy place between Otford & Wrotham !)

Mike, what a fantastic and inspiring story of your race. I’d seen the forecast that day and it was just miserable. 80 miles with feet completely messed up with being saturated for so long! I’ve never experienced anything like that. I really hope they’ve healed up for you now? Loved the story at the end about getting a lift safely back. Such a wonderful community that (ultra) running is ❤️

Mike what can I say … as you know I had almost exactly the same race experience as you at the last two NDW 100’s and so feel a great affinity and empathy but also like you have fallen into a love of the community! You were so strong Mike as I was at least an hour behind you - it was pitch black and driving rain when I got to the top of Otford Mount ! My feet blisters were the worst ever had despite changing socks and shoes at half way. Until the next time Mike - it really is more about the journey!! Thanks for a fabulous video, beautifully recorded despite immense challenges and meeting you again at the start ! Take care and hope to see you again next time 🏃🏻♂️👊

Great video Mike and superb effort. The weather conditions also made both my feet have awful blisters and essentially trench foot. After a few recent DNF’s I was very happy to finish the NDW 100. Hope to see you next year on the starting line!

It was lovely to meet you (I was on the Bluebell aid station) - just a shame not under better circumstances. I think you did so, so well at sticking with it for as long as you did (I ran in 2021 so know all about blisters) - especially going on from Bluebell on to Detling. A really tough break in the race but the way you process it and manage to exude positivity is a humble example of everything that is great about these challenges and the ultra community in general. Super effort Mike and what a video, loved it. And you're spot on, the community around ultra running is amazing. Yes finishes and PB's are nice but ultimately it's about looking out for each other and enjoying the trails. Even when they're more like a river 😅 Hope you're feet have recovered well

Great effort & awesome video 👍 I did my first & so far only ultra last year. Very fortunate we had a dry summer for training & only short shower on event day, otherwise doubt I would have finished. One small tip, I would consider some waterproof socks for next time. Keeping feet as dry as possible was no.1 priority for me
Thanks for watching! Yes I think that’s a must. I wasn’t expecting the rain to be quite so intense, but I will definitely look into waterproof socks and/or trench foot cream! All the best
Fair play. I have zero idea how anyone complete that in weather like that. I mean, how do you stop blisters as a result of wet feet over hours and hours??? Rally well done, and 80 miles is super impressive 👍
Completely agree with @BenNotley and others. Superb, quality video as always. I love the mix of dialogue, drone footage, Google Earth and real time to tell the story. As previously mentioned on Insta, it was great to see you on the trail and so gutted for you that you didn't complete it and beat the time from the previous year. There is always another race and another year 🙂. Hopefully I'll join you on the start line next year 😉

Fantastic film Mike and very well done for the very wet conditions. You've inspired me to enter longer races and contemplating Wendover Woods 50 next year. RE Very wet conditions, Have you tried trench foot cream founded by runner James Forbes - It's meant to be outstanding in protecting your feet.

Selfishly, i really want your honest review of your inov8 rain jacket you wore for the event because I have exactly the same one and Im wondering if it will manage a 3 day ultra as its so light!? Did the water pool up in your sleeves like it seems to do with mine?
Thanks Phil! Well it’s funny you should say that, yes the water did pool up in both sleeves behind the elastic wrists. I thought it might be sweat but it was hard to tell. Otherwise, it’s a brilliant jacket. It dries quickly (I dried it out in 10 minutes at knocholt). I couldn’t say whether it would last 3 days but for this event it was ideal. Thanks for watching!
