I went into my pregnancy telling my husband no matter what I say or threaten him with do not let me get an epidural. 2 days of induced labor later I was begging and crying for one and he broke his promise to me. I'll love him forever for it because it was the best choice for me and my baby boy to have a rested mommy pushing him out.
Girl same. I was induced for 2 days. Then after 17 hours of painful contractions from pitocin, I asked for an epidural, baby was born 2 hours later. I was tired and starved. I'd rather go through 34 hours of labor with an epidural, than 17 hours of painful contractions again. Didn't even feel the gigantic needle. 17 hours of contractions was a lot more painful than any barrel-sized needle.
I was induced ftm on pitocin and my labor took 6 hours I was already 4 cm dilated going into the hospital and was stalled at 4 cm for 3 weeks I kinda knew that the pain would reach a peak and not go past it but I asked for an epidural and I was already in active labor so here I am with my 1 week old baby boy ☺️ I would definitely do it all over again natural
I had my first baby 2 weeks ago thanks to your tips on "how to prepare yourself for an all natural labor" I had 2 cups of cinnamon tea at 2:30 pm then the went to active labor at 8pm, left to the hospital at 11:30, I was already 6cm dilated at 12am and gave birth at 2:31am and only pushed for 10 minutes... thanks for your awesome tips that really worked!!!

I had an epidural with my first, and thankfully got to sleep before baby came, but there was a lot of pain and negatives that I didn't like, for example I felt like I got hit by a train after, such a hard recovery, I was shaking a lot during and after delivery, my baby's heart rate dropped due to it, and I had back pain for several months after. even though I wished I could have a natural birth for future babies, I was too afraid to really consider it. but when baby 2 came along, I had a surprise home birth on the bathroom floor (due to a irresponsible hospital midwife who gave me poor advice to stay home for a while longer). I was able to handle the contractions, they didn't get too intense until the 5 minutes leading up to when I had him while I was in the shower, I didn't realize how far along I was and thought I should use the bathroom before we went to the hospital, after I started to push the pain overcame me, I froze and yelled and felt like I was being torn in half, thankfully my husband heard me and lifted me off the toilet or baby boy would have been born there as I couldn't move. at that point he was crowning so he laid me on the floor and he came out in one more push. it was a dramatic birth but immediately after I felt better. I felt more alert and I could actually walk, just felt very sore, even though I tore with both deliveries. recovery was so much better and I think that surprise delivery gave me the encouragement to have baby 3 naturally
If you dont mind me asking what degree did you tear? That's my biggest fear I know everyone is different but ive been trying to get an idea of how likely 1st degree years versus much more severe ones
@@jasminevaliente96 I tore, maybe about 3 cm, i'm guessing here, cause I never saw the tear down there, but I got about 4 stitches. The tear goes from your vagina towards your rectum. The tear itself wasn't really painful. It's using the toilet after everything that can be really hard and you should probably avoid sex for a little while. Till things heal. But 3 years later and everything looks good as new down there.
Well I certainly imagine you'd feel sore for sure either way, I mean either way, if you had a vaginal birth, your cervix just stretched by 10 fold! Of course it's going to be sore! I'm certainly not looking forward to that part.
Ashley ASHLEYM actually I didn’t tear with either and it didn’t hurt after they were born. It’s the tear that causes the pain with going the bathroom. I never had at vaginal pain. Uterine pain from it shrinking/contractions and the place where the placenta was healing, yes
I've had two natural deliveries. 6 and 8 hours long. No complications. I am due in 3 months and I plan on going natural again. No needle is going into my spine! My recovery was super quick. I was walking and doing normal things right after giving birth. It's totally worth it!
With all three of my pregnancies, I have been in bedrest for a LONG time because of preterm labor. When it is finally delivering time, I get that epidural. My first two babies I tried so hard to go without an epidural but my mind was so focused on “contractions are bad” that I wouldn’t progress. I got an epidural and BOOM! Baby 1/2 hour later. No joke! I have been in labor for months and it is glorious to finally not feel contractions and sleep!! I’m pregnant with my fourth. I’ve been on bedrest again for 6 months. And you betcha, I’ll be signing up for the epidural the moment I get to the hospital! One month to go! My sister had 5 babies without pain medication and she LOVED it! So everyone just needs to do what works best for them!
I actually had one of each, and I LOVED my natural labor even more (second baby). I felt strong and I felt that I was bringing my daughter through me and it was very surreal. I had a home birth, as labor progressed so quickly without the epidural. I was in labor with my son 12 hours, and pushed for about 5-10 minutes, and feel like I would have had him more quickly if I wasn't pinned to the bed. In labor with my daughter, I had taken birthing classes which helped me know what positions to get into. My daughter came in 2 and a half hours and only 2 pushes! Tijera Slack it was amazing. I wanted to plan it that way, but my bf was scared that something would go wrong. we opted for a birthing center because we planned for my labor to be longer than two and a half hours. If it had continued progressing for a lot longer, we would have gone to the birthing center, but she ended up being born at home unexpectedly. But all in all it was beautiful to be able to be in my own home in my very own bed holding my daughter not having to move not having to drive anywhere. :)
I think the second one is always easier given that there is no complication. By the time you have the third one you can just go fix some dinner afterward.
@@jinnyjane1213 I agree mostly but I know I had complications with my third that caused me incredible issues after. Word of advice... don't push between contractions, haha (oops). The uterus needs that rest. Mine was too tired to contract after birth and I hemorrhaged terribly which made recovery difficult. Now I am really avoiding epidurals because there is an increased risk of hemorrhage if you are a higher risk already. But births did get easier otherwise!
I think it's amazing that now we have options for pain relief while in labor. I've seen patients with both natural and with epidural labors. While the patients are waiting to get epidurals, the patients are usually restless and unable to rest. Once they get epidurals, they're TOTALLY different people. They smile, laugh, and nap! I definitely don't think epidurals slow things down, they allow your body to relax during contractions to allow the baby to come down on the cervix to dilate. I will be getting an epidural, but I understand people going natural and it's all great as long as you prepare and have a healthy baby.
Exactly and well said. I dont trust people who says epidural is bad and u will get problems and it slows down and bla bla. I had epidural anf my body relaxed for 3 hrs and then bang i was 10cm dilated. Baby was born and i felt clearly when baby came out bec i said ouch and yukhhy bec something come outside. Midwives were laughing bec it was my baby, hahah. Love love epidural and so blessed to have a choice. I have seen women who screams and shouting in birth ward and i say no thanks. I didnt want the stress and i have a beautiful healthy baby
@@nurse956 you can get complications, I don’t see why you can’t trust them because they are sharing they experience. For some ppl it worked. I’ll be giving birth in February and I really want natural birth but I’m scared of natural birth with or without the epidural so I’m actually glad I heard about this other method which is nitrous oxide(laughing gas). I’ve had laughing gas before so Ik what it feel like and this is my first pregnancy so hopefully everything goes well
Completely spot on. I had to have a natural labor and I FELT EVERYTHING. Omg lol 😭 now I’m pregnant the 2nd time around and I’m low key considering an epidural. But if I have a fast and intense labor again then I will just not get it. Either way, you’re bringing a baby into this world regardless and it’s a big and special moment ! Congratulations mommies 🍼👶🏼
I understand that everyone’s experiences are different but I respectfully disagree with the natural lady on the right regarding the cons. My first and only delivery was planned to be natural and was completely natural. I too was/am afraid of the epidural because I had heard SO many horror stories about the epidural working too much and can’t move, too little and half numb or you push so hard that you rip due to not being able to have the crowning or contractions. Btw this also encourages me to consider doing my own video to share my experience. My water broke at 6am and my son was born at 9am. With that being said and knowing that the first delivery is the most “difficult” delivery further encourages me to never get the epidural bc I believe it complicates things more than simplifies things. I appreciate the fact that you two ladies did a side by side comparison of your experiences. I’m happy to know neither of you had complications but I am a strong believer in our natural ability to give birth (as long as it’s a safe situation supported by your doctor of course). Go with your gut and let no one shame you for YOUR choice.
I had a natural birth with no drugs 8 weeks ago. My baby came on his due date! I loved doing it natural. I loved being able to feel completely in control and I had lots of freedom to move around, bathe or eat if I wanted to throughout labor. The midwives even made me tea. It was intense but I would definitely do it again.
@@zua240 Although the pain is very intense, you at least know it's going somewhere and won't last forever. Also, there's something empowering about feeling all those contractions: you feel fully immersed in the experience, you can use it to your advantage whilst pushing.
I had my 1st baby girl naturally, honestly it depends on your tolerance with pain. I was in labour for 48 hours I had really bad back pain and cramps like a really bad period. I was dailateing really slow and i ended up getting induce which was painful but I stay strong and positive I mentally prepared for pain. My last push she came out screaming and my body felt normal again no pain at all after. So naturally you do heal faster.
Anthia Knowles my period cramps get hella bad and I can handle those. Many tell me that’s what labor contractions sort of feel like so I think I would be fine doing natural
Well, because you felt normal straight after doesn't mean that happens for everyone - some women can barely function for weeks, with or without epidural. This discussion would be so much easier if people didn't generalise their own ONE experience to "this is how it is, for everyone everywhere who chooses same birth method as me" .

I think some women just want to feel everything and be present for all the feelings that arise. Some prefer not to feel pain. That's completely normal! I personally am afraid of an epidural but who's to say what I'll be feeling once I go into labor! Great video. Thank you.
I've never heard that the first child is the hardest! I had an epidural at 7 cm dialated with my first, even though I really wanted to go natural. At 7 I decided I didn't want to traumatize myself lol I'm hoping to go natural with our next child, mostly because I want an easier and faster recovery. Thanks for this video!
I had an inadvertent natural labor, and can’t imagine having an epidural now... my entire labor was under 10 hours, and I only pushed for about 20 minutes. Baby girl is now 3 weeks old!
No intensity, no pain you are calm and relax thank God for the epidural. My first baby withouit was so painful cant focus forgot to breath after delivery I was so tired almost pass out, second and third baby with epidural so happy now fourth one defetnely epidural for this one alsoo.
The point is no method is better than the other. A lot of it is what people perceive as pros and cons. Most people don’t want to feel pain and that’s a natural instinct and shouldn’t be shamed. A woman having an unmedicated birth is not better or worse than someone who was medicated. You don’t get an extra badge in motherhood just because you dealt with a crapload of pain.
I had an epidural with my first baby and I had an awesome experience. I pushed him out in 2 pushed & was up and walking around 10 minutes after giving birth. My recovery was speedy. I’m getting induced today and I plan to go natural ... wish me luck!
i definitely recommend doing a natural birth personally. mine went incredibly smoothly, and the pain wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be. it’s definitely different for everyone though
@@javariamalik7106 I mainly just recommend watching as many youtube videos as you can about it and try to learn a lot. There are lots of different things that could help. I did a bunch of different positions to try and help with contractions and at one point I was in a tub to help with the pain. I ended up delivering on my hands and knees on the hospital bed. I'd say the biggest thing is to just do what feels comfortable in the moment, and push when you feel the need to do so. Not when instructed to. I told my midwife team that I didn't want to be told when to push at all and so it all just happened naturally. A good OB or midwife makes a world of a difference too. I suggest using a midwife over an OB though, because then you'll have someone at your birth who knows your birth plan and will work with you. Do a lot of research and just learn about your options. Make up a plan that you want, along with backups for when things don't go according to plan (because they don't always do).
Most people who are induced end up with an epidural as it’s so painful compared to not having drugs pumped into your body. I’ve had both labours and the induction is by far the worse. There is no award for how the baby is born just do what is best for you
Agreed. I wish I had asked for an epidural for my first but they ended up giving me morphine. My last 3 were med free. The only thing I'd add is that women don't go med free for the medal. That's not a thing. They don't do it to feel superior or because they feel they're more of a woman. They do it because it works best for them. And often, it goes so well, they want to encourage others to try it too. But it's gotten to the point that women can't even share their med free birth stories without people thinking they're bragging.
Same here. First one induced plus epidural. It was hell. I pushed very unnatural and tore almost from front to back... second one was natural and soo much less painful, I delivered my daughter with just a little tear and was able to sit and do a lot the next day. Also I was released from the hospital 3 hours later and was able to relax at home.
Anna Davis yeah I don’t think inductions are horrible but they didn’t give me an epidural until 3 hours after breaking my water, I would have loved one straight away and would recommend it for anyone being induced! 😊
Yes I absolutely refuse to be induced 😔 I have heard numerous women say that it is painful , I pray that my baby comes on his/her own. (Don’t know the gender yet I find out in 10 days)
I have 4 sweet babies and I have had 2 deliveries of each. My first 3 were born in a hospital and my first 2 with an epidural. I had the same side effects from the epidural with both deliveries and I didn't like that and knew there had to be more or at least a better experience, so when baby #3 came I decided right away I was not having an epidural. Although it was nice not having the side effects, it was super intense and didn't feel like I had any support from the hospital staff. When baby #4 came I looked into having a midwife and for me that was the best decision I've ever made. Everyone is different and going no meds is definitely a mental game, meaning if there is any doubt then more than likely you will have an epidural because it is soooo intense. But all in all I have 4 healthy little ones and I am so loving this mommy life.
I gave birth before 10 weeks. I tried to go natural but couldn't tolerate the pain. I felt like i am going to die. I started begging for epidural. I was only 3cm dilated before epidural. I slept for around 1 hour 30 mins then felt the urge to push. I informed the nurse. I was fully dilated. Within 4 pushes I delivered my baby. In my case it didn't slow down the progress. And while pushing I can feel the contraction but not intense. By god's grace I didn't get any side effects.
I would definitely recommend natural. I had my two all natural. It is more intense & more painful, but recovery is much quicker. You get an overwhelming feeling of pride & joy too, knowing you went through it naturally. epi will slow labour done. I'm not going to lie, I did scream for an epi, but it was too late 'thankfully' .. It all depends on the woman too. I don't think I could have gone hours upon hours of agony. I luckily was in labour for 40 mins on both. I'm hoping to go natural on my next. Currently 15 weeks pregnant. :-)

People are going to starve and it goes from the bottom first to get wiped out to all the way to the rich. So if you are a million or billionaire then I advice u to watch are population.

You can call it "trying to control the population", but do you really think anyone will actually not have another child because you told them not to? You had a good epidural experience. Mine was terrible. They first epidural went in the wrong spot & they had to come back up to do it again. It took them an hour to come back. Then when I got to the ring of fire they turned off the epidural. Pointless & I had terrible pp depression for about 6 months after. 25 weeks with my second now & I'm going natural this time around.
Me too I also had a post lumbar puncture and it was hell like 10 hours of a headache. It's when your brain fluid leaks out thru your spine so your brain is sagging. Terrible feeling
This is interesting. I know it's about your personal experience but I would hope some women don't feel any less "bad ass" for getting the epidural. Personally, it was epidural or C section with my first (due to BP issues, anxiety, etc) I chose epidural and still felt so proud when my son was born and that we got through that whole ordeal (we almost lost him). The truth is side effects for an epidural are not long lasting. In fact most physicians will tell you if you have back pain more than 2-3 days later it isn't the epidural it's most likely due to something else. Still researching for options with my second due March 2018, but this was definitely helpful!
Christna Catena it depends on woman but the whole back pain isn't from epidural crap is a lie it's well researched that they are linked to long term back problems. Fortunately it isnt the case for everyone but something that should be considered if a woman already has back issues or doesnt want any. Its actually listed as a side effect
Jasmine Valiente NOT true. Anesthesiologist said some people have post delivery pain. You know the bruise, and lump you get sometimes after having an IV...same thing...the tubing that they insert into your spine is in the dura space for awhile. The time I had an epidural, it felt like some one had slapped me with a two by four. Much later, I had one for abdominal surgery and it was the pits afterwards. I much prefer labor pains...

Well there's side effects an the of course there's just the risk epidural can pose. It has the potential to leave you paralysed, it's incredibly rare but it is something that can happen. And it's a risk just because of where they're sticking the needle and one small slip can cause it which is why you have to remain so very still and their hand needs to be incredibly steady.
@Jasmine Barbosa I think it depends on the person. I have anxiety and the epidural will actually make my anxiety worse, I can handle pain especially if I know it's not due to a pathological reason. Very mild headaches send me into a panic because most of the time for me they're pathological (caused by infection typically). However, say if I ripped open my skin (so long as the bleeding was under control), not pathological at all, the pain is really bad, I actually don't panic at all, more so just annoyed at the pain, but feeling pain is good for me because it prevents me from doing more damage.
You could've went home. Even my Ob said at no point can they force you to stay and that would've helped labor progress better. I had natural and epi and this video makes you scared for natural. Natural you need to not have fear and trust your body. It is amazing and I would never want the epidural again after the perfect experience my natural was.

My hospital actually can force us to stay. Because we’re overseas military we’re literally not allowed to give birth anywhere but the hospital. If we show up with any signs of labor we don’t get the option to leave
megan overseas is another issue a lot of that has to do with proof of the childs citizenship. My nephew was born in Japan it had to be on base so he could easily get his fathers us citizenship
Love the end part. Great vid guys! Natural labor is the most pain I've ever felt in my life, but being excited to see her helped with the pain for me and as soon as I held my little rainbow baby, I forgot all about the pain.
I had my baby Monday and got the epidural. I’m still so sore with extreme back pain. The shot itself wasn’t bad. Not sure if it was the amount of time pushing (2.5 hours) or this is what women feel in the aftermath, but my beautiful baby girls here and it really is worth it. The pain doesn’t last forever

I had an epidural with my first and as I'm due any day now I definitely want one with my second. I was losing my mind panicking through the pain before the epidural. Totally chill after it. I had no back pain, no chills, no side effects from the epidural. My whole labor only lasted 9 hours. I had a teeny tiny tear from pushing. I only had to push for 5 minutes or so. They offered me oxycodone afterwards and I was really confused and talked them down to ibuprofen because I just....wasn't in pain.
I'm not pregnant and I'm not trying to be. I find it fascinating to learn about. My first time learning about how natural birth doesn't slow down labor and leaves you with more energy after the birth. I had learned about the baby being sluggish with the effectd of the epidural from a nutrition class in college. I think the pros of a fast labor and birth is cool.
There is only 1 pro to having an epidural: No pain. Everything else about it sucks, longer recovery time, longer pushing, more likely to tear, bad reactions/side effects, increases your risk of a c-section, slows labor down, it can make the baby sluggish and sleepy and cause difficulty latching and the list goes on. Only 1 thing good about it and sometimes it doesn't even fully work so you still feel pain.
Chelle that's my issue with it. Yea the no pain for contractions is great but all the rest doesnt even seem worth it especially when it doesnt work for everyone two of my cousins and my mother all had some weird reaction where it only worked for half their body and they ended up with the shakes. With my mom it lead to her needing an emergency c section because it made the babies heart rate go down. Then with my cousin she ended up needing a x section because her blood pressure went up from the shakes and anxiety. I rather just go through the pain personally and feel alert after eury less risksm

With my first bub (now pregnant with my second) I had an epidural and a catheter, i was at 4-5 cms and I had stopped progressing, I was induced and they recommended me having the epidural. I had such an easy labour after that I dilated to 10cms within 2 or so hours then had my son within another hour. I would definitely have another, I was that exhausted I didn’t know if I would’ve been able to without it as it gave me time to sleep and eat as I hadn’t eaten much within the 2 days I was in early labour.
I had an epidural with my 1st & I was in labor for 32 hours , I had my 2nd yesterday 💕I went all natural I went from 5cm to 9 1/2 cm in 15-20 mins my labor was only 11hrs !
but its said the first baby is always longest with or without epidural. I want to hear a story of someone to have their second baby with epidural and 3rd baby without and compare the two.
I had my baby two weeks early. I was in labor all day at work, but everyone kept insisting it was braxton hicks. By the time I got home contractions were 10 minutes apart. At midnight they were 5 minutes apart. My boyfriend got home at 2 am and we went straight to the hospital. When I got there I was 7 cm dilated. I did not get an epidural. I tore really bad..but I was up and walking around right after I got stitched up. The bad thing was, I was up for like 30 hours and everybody left me alone for my first night. The nurses didn't let me get any rest. I fell asleep breastfeeding. It was bad. But natural is definitely not as bad as it seems...
Marisa Hall omg that sounds like a nightmare (being in labor at work part). I am 32 weeks and haven’t given birth before but one thing I’m afraid of is knowing whether I’m having Braxton Hicks or when I’m having real contractions because I’ve had a few Braxton Hicks and they weren’t painless like the stuff I’ve read says they are!!
Another pro to natural is your body bounces back faster(not talking losing baby weight) but hours after having the baby you can be mobile and feel great where with an epidural you're still achy and all the pain you should've been feeling that was blocked by the epidural will come back.

I had 3 kids, 2 unmedicated, last with an epidural. All three were easy. An epidural made nothing harder about recovery at all. And no, all that pain you should be feeling is incredibly offensive. I guess you should feel a toothache, appendicitis, all natural feelings right?

I will stay #teamnatural. The hospital that I went to two years ago to give birth to my son said that if I had an epidural that I had to have a catheter. They also said that it might not always work (and honestly, I was in the most pain on my back, so I was like, "a needle there? Screw that.") The "pain" wasn't even so bad! I had a couple intense cramp sensations and an intense need to poop during the last two hours of my labor. My son ended up coming out with his hand first, then his head. So I am very convinced that if I was hooked up to an epidural, I would of had to have a C-section, because I needed to change positions before the active labor so that he could come out easier.
I am amazed by women who say the pain wasn't that bad. For me it was hands down the worst, most stratospheric pain I've ever felt. Just know how lucky and atypical you are to have had such minimal pain and be thankful, that's all I ask 🤣💖
I'm team women making their own decision. I've always wanted a natural birth, but I also have epilepsy. I'm now considering an epidural because I don't want to stress of natural birth to cause me to have a siezure. Having a siezure during pregnancy puts both me and my child at serious risk. This really isn't about being on some sort of team. Do what is healthy and what is going to work for you and your baby.
Love this video. It's so nice that y'all have a choice lol, where I'm from there's no epidural no pain killers nothing just straight natural & honestly I prefer it this way. It's not as bad as it sounds. I delivered naturally twice so far and I'm so glad we don't have an option down here because i got to experience every thing the way I was supposed to because it's what God intended!
My friend has 3 babies and she had epidural and had vest experience. I had epidural and love love it. I am currently 36 weeks pragnant and will make sure i do get epidural. We women in west are blessed with choices. Thanks to laws and medical teams.
Your epidural experience sounds great ! I would love that but my cousin got paralyzed from her epidural and had to do years of physiotherapy. So I'm just extremely torn and confused, I would love your epidural experience but I'm scared of complications
I've done both-- and I would never again do a natural birth--- one time natural was plenty for me! Sooo painful while the epidural ones (3 births) were so peaceful and lovely!
after 3 births! can i ask a few questions? do you have back pain or a sensitive area in your back every time you bend or you touch it? What side effects did you have with epidural?
I actually had no post partum side affects from the epidural! My body always shakes during birth--- I thought initially it was because of the epidural but noticed even on the natural birth, my body was still shaking. All 4 births had their own special things and struggles but the epidural ones were easy recovery just like the natural one so I wouldn't go through that pain again. Not worth it for me!
I had my son without an epidural but it wasn’t originally planned that way. They gave me pitocin to “push things along” because my water had already broken when I got to the hospital. Once the pitocin started I went from 2 to 8cm in two hours and ended up not having time for an epidural. I think it worked out for the better because while painful, it was fast and I only had to push for 15 minutes.
Before I had kids I was team epidural all day. With my first I had an epidural, it was a good experience but the recovery was hard. I think my epidural worked too well and I had a hard time pushing correctly and had significant tearing. Back pain/bruising from where it was placed. With my second, I went all natural and yes it was intense in the moment but the recovery was 100000% better. I could move around immediately and had no tearing even though my baby was over 1lb bigger than my first. If I have a third I will absolutely opt for all natural.
So nice to finally hear some pros of an epidural. I'm only 14 weeks and ever since I found out I was pregnant I pretty much thought that I would want an epidural, but the last couple weeks I've been watching videos/researching and have gotten so scared of the epidural with all of the "horror stories" I've seen. It made me so scared of giving birth because I felt like I was going to be so afraid of getting an epidural that I would endure natural labor even if I couldn't really handle it and then be scared out of having another child. I do want to try to go natural but this video definitely makes me feel like I at least have the option of an epidural if I think I need it. Thanks :)
I have had 4 unmedicated births and was curious what a epidural birth was like because I am up late with my newborn and I watched a birth video. The mama in it had an epidural and at one point they calmly state "oh she is 10 centimeters dilated and it is time to push". Me, having only had unmedicated births, I was thinking, "wait they have to tell her it's time to push?". I think that would freak me out. But, It also sparked a curiosity in me about what the differences are. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your video and the comments were very helpful.
Oh man, I gave birth 4 months ago, naturally, and I thought I was going to die. You can not prepare yourself for that amount of pain. Luckily I was in active labour for 2 hours.

I had both..epidural with my first and all natural with my second! With me I had an epidural last minute..had side effects afterwards..such as I couldn’t move for a period of time but went away after a few months..Second had natural birth..went in when I was dilated to a 8cm and they didn’t even have time to put an IV..it was soo horrible..I was screaming like someone was killing me and also traumatized my husband! I now Have a boy and a girl..so that’s it for me!!
Had my third baby 2 weeks ago. It was a very quick labor. Went in to the hospital 4 cm. Finally get into the labor room 6cm. Im in sooo much pain. Nurse recommends I get an epidural if i wanted one cause she had a feeling my labor was gonna be quick. 15 mins after I had my epidural. I was 10 cm. Pushed for 20 mins and out she came no tearing. The epi only took the edge off of my contractions. I still felt the ring of fire and boy that hurt. But all in all I was happy with my birth experience.
I got the epidural and I couldn't sleep at all! I didn't sleep or eat for over 48 hours and still managed to push my baby out! It's crazy how different everyone's experiences are. I had intense back labor and uncontrollably shaking and I was in a lot of pain! The shaking was a symptom of the epidural..that they didn't tell me about.
epidural progressed my labor..for both my labors...was induced both times.. like I got it when I was a 4.. and in less that 20 mins I was fully dilated.. and.. it was time to push and 4 pushes for each of my boys n they were out...
induction tends tomakes the labour progess qucker. I had all 3 in under 40 mins. Start to finish. I did scream for an epi, but the nurse told me in would slow everything down. I went natural. would definitely recommend natural. recovery is easier & quicker. xx

I was so scared thinking about getting an epidural but for anyone curious what it was like (atleast for me) youre already in so much pain from contracting that you dont feel it. They give you a numbing sjot first which feels like someone scratched your back and then you can feel the medicine going through your nerves in a cold/tickling type of feeling.. but it never hurt especially comparing to the pain of contractions and or back labor.
Freya Sol I had a shot a month ago called the garticle shot and it had a similar feeling. I could feel the medicine going through my body so I already know somewhat it feels like.
That’s what I said going in. No one was going to give me a cookie or an award for not getting an epidural. As long as it was safe for my daughter, I’ll take whatever you’re offering for the pain. They even gave me an IV dose of Demerol before my first epidural. Now that was lovely. Lol

I had my baby at home. My body did all the wonderful work, and I simply went with the flow. It was intense and intensely beautiful. Birth, as it is intended, is so much more than just pushing out a baby, ladies. It makes you into a stronger woman. If you can give birth naturally, do it. And it's so empowering to do it without any hospital interventions. I loved my birth and want to do it again 💛
I will never forget the feeling of the epidural being put in my back. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s definitely weird. I was able to labor down, which means that if I hadn’t had an epidural I would of been push for waaay longer than I actually did. I might try natural labor but the epidural really helped me. I could also move my legs and toes but my legs felt like they were full of metal and it took some effort to move them. The recovery was intense but it was worth it!
American woman are very usedto get the epidural. I'm from 3rd world country, and when l delivered my baby in a public hospital, I suffered and screamed for hours !!!! My water broke at 7:30 AM I suffered very very very intense pain starting from 11AM till I gave birth at 10 PM !!!!! No medication ..... You have no choice and when the doctor say you can do it naturally, you just do it.
With my first born now 4y-old... I started having contractions every 5, then every 3 then every 1minute being in a taxi and my water broke, my contractions started at 11:30 or so, been in an active labor instantly because his head is coming out, I wasn’t able to get epidural (even I wanted to have to) I walked from emergency room to delivery room because they can’t put me on a wheelchair (cause the head is coming out, my son was born at 12:49... Pros: you can feel your body and know when to push, cons: you’ll feel the pain of the stitches 😖😖😖

With my first I was induced at 40 weeks, (I also had gestational diabetes) and I labored with out the epidural for a bit, the contractions were ridiculous, and I had planned to get an epidural and I was finally ready. After that I was able to enjoy my delivery, I progressed pretty fast still, and it really didn’t hurt bad at all. I only pushed for 15 minutes as well or so. It was a very relaxed delivery.
So many recommendations...all I can say is you have to know yourself. You gotta be able to know you mental state, if you're able to endure such pain. And if you're choosing to endure it, to be prepared mentally also. Therefore... IDK what the heck I'm gonna do... I'd like to have the control over my delivery, not having the baby stuck in there so long. But also, scared as hell of the pain since I know how sensitive I've become to physical pain.. Dang it
Once the baby comes from the vagina I consider it natural. In essence it's like saying if I'm having a headache and I take painkillers I am not having a headache because it didn't go through the pain? But still a great post knowing the advantages and disadvantages :)

I agree. Any mama giving birth vaginally is going through it naturally. Any mother giving birth in any fashion is a badass. I like saying medicated or unmedicated 😂
Joshie lol no one is saying you arent having a delivery you're just definitely not having a natural delivery. Having a headache and letting it go away on its own without meds is natural having a headache and taking meds for it is not natural by definition you're being medicated which is not natural. Lol nothing is natural about not feeling contractions
Thank you for sharing. I did epidural with my first two and yes labor took forever. And I had bad side effect with my second one cause still to this day my lower back will hurt even whith cold weather or rain storms. I believe with my third and last one I'll go natural
As someone who self cathed (had to use a catheter every time I went to the bathroom) for over 2 years it actually doesn’t cause infections if you keep everything sterile it can actually be used to prevent them 😊 love the video I’ve given birth 3 times naturally and wanna try epidural but know nothing about it 😊

I had my first baby 4 weeks ago. I got my epidural at 9cm-10cm, quite late, it didn't kick in on time for baby delivery but it did for placenta delivery. I went from 2cm to 4cm in 30 mins and from 4cm to 9 cm in another cms, when the epidural arrived they thought i was at 4cm but i was in extreme pain, i couldn't talk, i was hugging the nurse and holding very much, they checked and realised i was already at 9cm and needed to get it fast and start things going. My recovery was super fast
My first baby with epidural. I arrived with 5-6cm dilated. I was admitted and elected epidural. I would do it again. I was able to rest, talk, and my labor did not slow down. I dilated along nicely until birth. When the pushing came I was able to have energy saved. I did have a foley but I was able to walk, urinate and my sensation returned fairly quick. Epidurals are performed with a medication that is weight based as well as affected by gravity (laying on one side for too long will shift medication in your spinal canal to that area). I also had IV fluids and that may have assisted to flush out the medicine.
I had a terrible experience with an epidural. Had 2 get it done twice. Everyone's situation is so different. I also was numb in my leg for weeks. Could barely walk around. Be aware, anything can happen.

I had my first with an epidural, it was a horrible birth so grateful i had pain management. I hemorrhaged and had a third degree, then passed out from blood loss lol I didn’t heal for a year after from international infections and the damage. My second I had natural pain free, I was so scared I think my pain was worse just because I didn’t expect it to be so bad and the fear of having another near death experience. I’m now having my third in 5 months and I hope I can have it natural and with a lot less fear.
The limited mobility, being trapped in bed, is what decided it for me. I know if I’m in pain, I’m gonna feel restless and want to be able to move around on my own.
Just had my baby 2 weeks ago, and I was in so much pain but it went so fast that I didn’t even have enough time to get it. But if the labor would be long and I was in so much pain I would of get the epidural. My water broke at 10am and I had my baby by noon. It went so fast that I didn’t even realize that I’m having the baby.
Thanx for sharing..My little sister had an epidural, gave birth two months ago. I’m 6 months gone and definitely don’t want to do epidural due to what I heard, that later you’ll end up having a type of pain in your body which can be back pain or leg pain..so I’m not sure. Pray for me and tell God to make up my mind for me..🙏🏾

I had an epidural with my 8yr old, at the time i was 16 and it was somewhat easy, i also have a 2 year old and i did it all natural and it was horrible, went through so much pain i was asking begging for epidural but it was too late. I am 8 months pregnant with my 3rd baby and i am getting the epidural for sure again.
Do not be so scared of natural birth! It’s totally up to you but I did it and you can too! It was SO EMPOWERING and I felt in control and I felt like I was doing it the way nature intended. I would do it again FOR SURE! just consider!
I went into my pregnancy telling my husband no matter what I say or threaten him with do not let me get an epidural. 2 days of induced labor later I was begging and crying for one and he broke his promise to me. I'll love him forever for it because it was the best choice for me and my baby boy to have a rested mommy pushing him out.

Girl same. I was induced for 2 days. Then after 17 hours of painful contractions from pitocin, I asked for an epidural, baby was born 2 hours later. I was tired and starved.
I'd rather go through 34 hours of labor with an epidural, than 17 hours of painful contractions again.
Didn't even feel the gigantic needle. 17 hours of contractions was a lot more painful than any barrel-sized needle.
I was induced ftm on pitocin and my labor took 6 hours I was already 4 cm dilated going into the hospital and was stalled at 4 cm for 3 weeks I kinda knew that the pain would reach a peak and not go past it but I asked for an epidural and I was already in active labor so here I am with my 1 week old baby boy ☺️ I would definitely do it all over again natural

I had my first baby 2 weeks ago thanks to your tips on "how to prepare yourself for an all natural labor" I had 2 cups of cinnamon tea at 2:30 pm then the went to active labor at 8pm, left to the hospital at 11:30, I was already 6cm dilated at 12am and gave birth at 2:31am and only pushed for 10 minutes... thanks for your awesome tips that really worked!!!

I had an epidural with my first, and thankfully got to sleep before baby came, but there was a lot of pain and negatives that I didn't like, for example I felt like I got hit by a train after, such a hard recovery, I was shaking a lot during and after delivery, my baby's heart rate dropped due to it, and I had back pain for several months after. even though I wished I could have a natural birth for future babies, I was too afraid to really consider it. but when baby 2 came along, I had a surprise home birth on the bathroom floor (due to a irresponsible hospital midwife who gave me poor advice to stay home for a while longer). I was able to handle the contractions, they didn't get too intense until the 5 minutes leading up to when I had him while I was in the shower, I didn't realize how far along I was and thought I should use the bathroom before we went to the hospital, after I started to push the pain overcame me, I froze and yelled and felt like I was being torn in half, thankfully my husband heard me and lifted me off the toilet or baby boy would have been born there as I couldn't move. at that point he was crowning so he laid me on the floor and he came out in one more push. it was a dramatic birth but immediately after I felt better. I felt more alert and I could actually walk, just felt very sore, even though I tore with both deliveries. recovery was so much better and I think that surprise delivery gave me the encouragement to have baby 3 naturally

If you dont mind me asking what degree did you tear? That's my biggest fear I know everyone is different but ive been trying to get an idea of how likely 1st degree years versus much more severe ones
@@jasminevaliente96 I tore, maybe about 3 cm, i'm guessing here, cause I never saw the tear down there, but I got about 4 stitches. The tear goes from your vagina towards your rectum. The tear itself wasn't really painful. It's using the toilet after everything that can be really hard and you should probably avoid sex for a little while. Till things heal. But 3 years later and everything looks good as new down there.
Well I certainly imagine you'd feel sore for sure either way, I mean either way, if you had a vaginal birth, your cervix just stretched by 10 fold! Of course it's going to be sore! I'm certainly not looking forward to that part.
Ashley ASHLEYM actually I didn’t tear with either and it didn’t hurt after they were born. It’s the tear that causes the pain with going the bathroom. I never had at vaginal pain. Uterine pain from it shrinking/contractions and the place where the placenta was healing, yes
I've had two natural deliveries. 6 and 8 hours long. No complications. I am due in 3 months and I plan on going natural again. No needle is going into my spine! My recovery was super quick. I was walking and doing normal things right after giving birth. It's totally worth it!

With all three of my pregnancies, I have been in bedrest for a LONG time because of preterm labor. When it is finally delivering time, I get that epidural. My first two babies I tried so hard to go without an epidural but my mind was so focused on “contractions are bad” that I wouldn’t progress. I got an epidural and BOOM! Baby 1/2 hour later. No joke! I have been in labor for months and it is glorious to finally not feel contractions and sleep!! I’m pregnant with my fourth. I’ve been on bedrest again for 6 months. And you betcha, I’ll be signing up for the epidural the moment I get to the hospital! One month to go!
My sister had 5 babies without pain medication and she LOVED it!

I actually had one of each, and I LOVED my natural labor even more (second baby). I felt strong and I felt that I was bringing my daughter through me and it was very surreal. I had a home birth, as labor progressed so quickly without the epidural. I was in labor with my son 12 hours, and pushed for about 5-10 minutes, and feel like I would have had him more quickly if I wasn't pinned to the bed. In labor with my daughter, I had taken birthing classes which helped me know what positions to get into. My daughter came in 2 and a half hours and only 2 pushes! Tijera Slack it was amazing. I wanted to plan it that way, but my bf was scared that something would go wrong. we opted for a birthing center because we planned for my labor to be longer than two and a half hours. If it had continued progressing for a lot longer, we would have gone to the birthing center, but she ended up being born at home unexpectedly. But all in all it was beautiful to be able to be in my own home in my very own bed holding my daughter not having to move not having to drive anywhere. :)
I think the second one is always easier given that there is no complication. By the time you have the third one you can just go fix some dinner afterward.
@@jinnyjane1213 I agree mostly but I know I had complications with my third that caused me incredible issues after. Word of advice... don't push between contractions, haha (oops). The uterus needs that rest. Mine was too tired to contract after birth and I hemorrhaged terribly which made recovery difficult. Now I am really avoiding epidurals because there is an increased risk of hemorrhage if you are a higher risk already. But births did get easier otherwise!

I think it's amazing that now we have options for pain relief while in labor. I've seen patients with both natural and with epidural labors. While the patients are waiting to get epidurals, the patients are usually restless and unable to rest. Once they get epidurals, they're TOTALLY different people. They smile, laugh, and nap! I definitely don't think epidurals slow things down, they allow your body to relax during contractions to allow the baby to come down on the cervix to dilate. I will be getting an epidural, but I understand people going natural and it's all great as long as you prepare and have a healthy baby.

Exactly and well said. I dont trust people who says epidural is bad and u will get problems and it slows down and bla bla. I had epidural anf my body relaxed for 3 hrs and then bang i was 10cm dilated. Baby was born and i felt clearly when baby came out bec i said ouch and yukhhy bec something come outside. Midwives were laughing bec it was my baby, hahah.
Love love epidural and so blessed to have a choice. I have seen women who screams and shouting in birth ward and i say no thanks. I didnt want the stress and i have a beautiful healthy baby
@@nurse956 you can get complications, I don’t see why you can’t trust them because they are sharing they experience. For some ppl it worked. I’ll be giving birth in February and I really want natural birth but I’m scared of natural birth with or without the epidural so I’m actually glad I heard about this other method which is nitrous oxide(laughing gas). I’ve had laughing gas before so Ik what it feel like and this is my first pregnancy so hopefully everything goes well
Completely spot on. I had to have a natural labor and I FELT EVERYTHING. Omg lol 😭 now I’m pregnant the 2nd time around and I’m low key considering an epidural. But if I have a fast and intense labor again then I will just not get it. Either way, you’re bringing a baby into this world regardless and it’s a big and special moment ! Congratulations mommies 🍼👶🏼
I understand that everyone’s experiences are different but I respectfully disagree with the natural lady on the right regarding the cons. My first and only delivery was planned to be natural and was completely natural. I too was/am afraid of the epidural because I had heard SO many horror stories about the epidural working too much and can’t move, too little and half numb or you push so hard that you rip due to not being able to have the crowning or contractions. Btw this also encourages me to consider doing my own video to share my experience. My water broke at 6am and my son was born at 9am. With that being said and knowing that the first delivery is the most “difficult” delivery further encourages me to never get the epidural bc I believe it complicates things more than simplifies things. I appreciate the fact that you two ladies did a side by side comparison of your experiences. I’m happy to know neither of you had complications but I am a strong believer in our natural ability to give birth (as long as it’s a safe situation supported by your doctor of course). Go with your gut and let no one shame you for YOUR choice.
I had a natural birth with no drugs 8 weeks ago. My baby came on his due date! I loved doing it natural. I loved being able to feel completely in control and I had lots of freedom to move around, bathe or eat if I wanted to throughout labor. The midwives even made me tea. It was intense but I would definitely do it again.

@@zua240 Although the pain is very intense, you at least know it's going somewhere and won't last forever. Also, there's something empowering about feeling all those contractions: you feel fully immersed in the experience, you can use it to your advantage whilst pushing.
I had my 1st baby girl naturally, honestly it depends on your tolerance with pain. I was in labour for 48 hours I had really bad back pain and cramps like a really bad period. I was dailateing really slow and i ended up getting induce which was painful but I stay strong and positive I mentally prepared for pain. My last push she came out screaming and my body felt normal again no pain at all after. So naturally you do heal faster.
Anthia Knowles my period cramps get hella bad and I can handle those. Many tell me that’s what labor contractions sort of feel like so I think I would be fine doing natural
Well, because you felt normal straight after doesn't mean that happens for everyone - some women can barely function for weeks, with or without epidural. This discussion would be so much easier if people didn't generalise their own ONE experience to "this is how it is, for everyone everywhere who chooses same birth method as me" .

I've never heard that the first child is the hardest! I had an epidural at 7 cm dialated with my first, even though I really wanted to go natural. At 7 I decided I didn't want to traumatize myself lol I'm hoping to go natural with our next child, mostly because I want an easier and faster recovery. Thanks for this video!
I had an inadvertent natural labor, and can’t imagine having an epidural now... my entire labor was under 10 hours, and I only pushed for about 20 minutes. Baby girl is now 3 weeks old!
No intensity, no pain you are calm and relax thank God for the epidural. My first baby withouit was so painful cant focus forgot to breath after delivery I was so tired almost pass out, second and third baby with epidural so happy now fourth one defetnely epidural for this one alsoo.

The point is no method is better than the other. A lot of it is what people perceive as pros and cons. Most people don’t want to feel pain and that’s a natural instinct and shouldn’t be shamed. A woman having an unmedicated birth is not better or worse than someone who was medicated. You don’t get an extra badge in motherhood just because you dealt with a crapload of pain.

I had an epidural with my first baby and I had an awesome experience. I pushed him out in 2 pushed & was up and walking around 10 minutes after giving birth. My recovery was speedy.

i definitely recommend doing a natural birth personally. mine went incredibly smoothly, and the pain wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be. it’s definitely different for everyone though

@@javariamalik7106 I mainly just recommend watching as many youtube videos as you can about it and try to learn a lot. There are lots of different things that could help. I did a bunch of different positions to try and help with contractions and at one point I was in a tub to help with the pain. I ended up delivering on my hands and knees on the hospital bed. I'd say the biggest thing is to just do what feels comfortable in the moment, and push when you feel the need to do so. Not when instructed to. I told my midwife team that I didn't want to be told when to push at all and so it all just happened naturally. A good OB or midwife makes a world of a difference too. I suggest using a midwife over an OB though, because then you'll have someone at your birth who knows your birth plan and will work with you.
Do a lot of research and just learn about your options. Make up a plan that you want, along with backups for when things don't go according to plan (because they don't always do).

Most people who are induced end up with an epidural as it’s so painful compared to not having drugs pumped into your body. I’ve had both labours and the induction is by far the worse.
There is no award for how the baby is born just do what is best for you
Agreed. I wish I had asked for an epidural for my first but they ended up giving me morphine. My last 3 were med free. The only thing I'd add is that women don't go med free for the medal. That's not a thing. They don't do it to feel superior or because they feel they're more of a woman. They do it because it works best for them. And often, it goes so well, they want to encourage others to try it too. But it's gotten to the point that women can't even share their med free birth stories without people thinking they're bragging.
Same here. First one induced plus epidural. It was hell. I pushed very unnatural and tore almost from front to back... second one was natural and soo much less painful, I delivered my daughter with just a little tear and was able to sit and do a lot the next day. Also I was released from the hospital 3 hours later and was able to relax at home.
My induction was awesome. They broke my water and I got the epidural really quick. Start to finish was 7 hours, and it was pretty easy.
Anna Davis yeah I don’t think inductions are horrible but they didn’t give me an epidural until 3 hours after breaking my water, I would have loved one straight away and would recommend it for anyone being induced! 😊
Yes I absolutely refuse to be induced 😔 I have heard numerous women say that it is painful , I pray that my baby comes on his/her own. (Don’t know the gender yet I find out in 10 days)
I have 4 sweet babies and I have had 2 deliveries of each. My first 3 were born in a hospital and my first 2 with an epidural. I had the same side effects from the epidural with both deliveries and I didn't like that and knew there had to be more or at least a better experience, so when baby #3 came I decided right away I was not having an epidural. Although it was nice not having the side effects, it was super intense and didn't feel like I had any support from the hospital staff. When baby #4 came I looked into having a midwife and for me that was the best decision I've ever made. Everyone is different and going no meds is definitely a mental game, meaning if there is any doubt then more than likely you will have an epidural because it is soooo intense. But all in all I have 4 healthy little ones and I am so loving this mommy life.
I gave birth before 10 weeks. I tried to go natural but couldn't tolerate the pain. I felt like i am going to die. I started begging for epidural. I was only 3cm dilated before epidural. I slept for around 1 hour 30 mins then felt the urge to push. I informed the nurse. I was fully dilated. Within 4 pushes I delivered my baby.
In my case it didn't slow down the progress. And while pushing I can feel the contraction but not intense. By god's grace I didn't get any side effects.
I would definitely recommend natural. I had my two all natural. It is more intense & more painful, but recovery is much quicker. You get an overwhelming feeling of pride & joy too, knowing you went through it naturally. epi will slow labour done. I'm not going to lie, I did scream for an epi, but it was too late 'thankfully' .. It all depends on the woman too. I don't think I could have gone hours upon hours of agony. I luckily was in labour for 40 mins on both. I'm hoping to go natural on my next. Currently 15 weeks pregnant. :-)

People are going to starve and it goes from the bottom first to get wiped out to all the way to the rich. So if you are a million or billionaire then I advice u to watch are population.

You can call it "trying to control the population", but do you really think anyone will actually not have another child because you told them not to? You had a good epidural experience. Mine was terrible. They first epidural went in the wrong spot & they had to come back up to do it again. It took them an hour to come back. Then when I got to the ring of fire they turned off the epidural. Pointless & I had terrible pp depression for about 6 months after.
25 weeks with my second now & I'm going natural this time around.
Why did they stop the epidural once you got the ring of fire and it wore off that quickly??
Me too I also had a post lumbar puncture and it was hell like 10 hours of a headache. It's when your brain fluid leaks out thru your spine so your brain is sagging. Terrible feeling
This is interesting. I know it's about your personal experience but I would hope some women don't feel any less "bad ass" for getting the epidural. Personally, it was epidural or C section with my first (due to BP issues, anxiety, etc) I chose epidural and still felt so proud when my son was born and that we got through that whole ordeal (we almost lost him). The truth is side effects for an epidural are not long lasting. In fact most physicians will tell you if you have back pain more than 2-3 days later it isn't the epidural it's most likely due to something else. Still researching for options with my second due March 2018, but this was definitely helpful!
Christna Catena it depends on woman but the whole back pain isn't from epidural crap is a lie it's well researched that they are linked to long term back problems. Fortunately it isnt the case for everyone but something that should be considered if a woman already has back issues or doesnt want any. Its actually listed as a side effect

Anesthesiologist said some people have post delivery pain. You know the bruise, and lump you get sometimes after having an IV...same thing...the tubing that they insert into your spine is in the dura space for awhile.
The time I had an epidural, it felt like some one had slapped me with a two by four.
Much later, I had one for abdominal surgery and it was the pits afterwards.
I much prefer labor pains...

Well there's side effects an the of course there's just the risk epidural can pose. It has the potential to leave you paralysed, it's incredibly rare but it is something that can happen. And it's a risk just because of where they're sticking the needle and one small slip can cause it which is why you have to remain so very still and their hand needs to be incredibly steady.
@Jasmine Barbosa I think it depends on the person. I have anxiety and the epidural will actually make my anxiety worse, I can handle pain especially if I know it's not due to a pathological reason. Very mild headaches send me into a panic because most of the time for me they're pathological (caused by infection typically). However, say if I ripped open my skin (so long as the bleeding was under control), not pathological at all, the pain is really bad, I actually don't panic at all, more so just annoyed at the pain, but feeling pain is good for me because it prevents me from doing more damage.
You could've went home. Even my Ob said at no point can they force you to stay and that would've helped labor progress better. I had natural and epi and this video makes you scared for natural. Natural you need to not have fear and trust your body. It is amazing and I would never want the epidural again after the perfect experience my natural was.

My hospital actually can force us to stay. Because we’re overseas military we’re literally not allowed to give birth anywhere but the hospital. If we show up with any signs of labor we don’t get the option to leave

megan overseas is another issue a lot of that has to do with proof of the childs citizenship. My nephew was born in Japan it had to be on base so he could easily get his fathers us citizenship
Love the end part. Great vid guys! Natural labor is the most pain I've ever felt in my life, but being excited to see her helped with the pain for me and as soon as I held my little rainbow baby, I forgot all about the pain.
I had my baby Monday and got the epidural. I’m still so sore with extreme back pain. The shot itself wasn’t bad. Not sure if it was the amount of time pushing (2.5 hours) or this is what women feel in the aftermath, but my beautiful baby girls here and it really is worth it. The pain doesn’t last forever

I had an epidural with my first and as I'm due any day now I definitely want one with my second. I was losing my mind panicking through the pain before the epidural. Totally chill after it. I had no back pain, no chills, no side effects from the epidural. My whole labor only lasted 9 hours. I had a teeny tiny tear from pushing. I only had to push for 5 minutes or so. They offered me oxycodone afterwards and I was really confused and talked them down to ibuprofen because I just....wasn't in pain.
I'm not pregnant and I'm not trying to be. I find it fascinating to learn about. My first time learning about how natural birth doesn't slow down labor and leaves you with more energy after the birth. I had learned about the baby being sluggish with the effectd of the epidural from a nutrition class in college. I think the pros of a fast labor and birth is cool.
There is only 1 pro to having an epidural: No pain.
Everything else about it sucks, longer recovery time, longer pushing, more likely to tear, bad reactions/side effects, increases your risk of a c-section, slows labor down, it can make the baby sluggish and sleepy and cause difficulty latching and the list goes on. Only 1 thing good about it and sometimes it doesn't even fully work so you still feel pain.
Chelle that's my issue with it. Yea the no pain for contractions is great but all the rest doesnt even seem worth it especially when it doesnt work for everyone two of my cousins and my mother all had some weird reaction where it only worked for half their body and they ended up with the shakes. With my mom it lead to her needing an emergency c section because it made the babies heart rate go down. Then with my cousin she ended up needing a x section because her blood pressure went up from the shakes and anxiety. I rather just go through the pain personally and feel alert after eury less risksm

With my first bub (now pregnant with my second) I had an epidural and a catheter, i was at 4-5 cms and I had stopped progressing, I was induced and they recommended me having the epidural. I had such an easy labour after that I dilated to 10cms within 2 or so hours then had my son within another hour. I would definitely have another, I was that exhausted I didn’t know if I would’ve been able to without it as it gave me time to sleep and eat as I hadn’t eaten much within the 2 days I was in early labour.
I had an epidural with my 1st & I was in labor for 32 hours , I had my 2nd yesterday 💕I went all natural I went from 5cm to 9 1/2 cm in 15-20 mins my labor was only 11hrs !

I had my baby two weeks early. I was in labor all day at work, but everyone kept insisting it was braxton hicks. By the time I got home contractions were 10 minutes apart. At midnight they were 5 minutes apart. My boyfriend got home at 2 am and we went straight to the hospital. When I got there I was 7 cm dilated. I did not get an epidural. I tore really bad..but I was up and walking around right after I got stitched up. The bad thing was, I was up for like 30 hours and everybody left me alone for my first night. The nurses didn't let me get any rest. I fell asleep breastfeeding. It was bad. But natural is definitely not as bad as it seems...
Marisa Hall omg that sounds like a nightmare (being in labor at work part). I am 32 weeks and haven’t given birth before but one thing I’m afraid of is knowing whether I’m having Braxton Hicks or when I’m having real contractions because I’ve had a few Braxton Hicks and they weren’t painless like the stuff I’ve read says they are!!
Another pro to natural is your body bounces back faster(not talking losing baby weight) but hours after having the baby you can be mobile and feel great where with an epidural you're still achy and all the pain you should've been feeling that was blocked by the epidural will come back.

I had no aches after EPIDURAL wore off. My stitches started aching literally 24 hours after getting them.

I had 3 kids, 2 unmedicated, last with an epidural. All three were easy. An epidural made nothing harder about recovery at all. And no, all that pain you should be feeling is incredibly offensive. I guess you should feel a toothache, appendicitis, all natural feelings right?
I need to watch that video on natural! I had an epidural with my first. I went 17 our of 22 hours without an epidural but I didn’t breathe through contractions, I know I could have done it if I knew how! Going to watch! So inspirational!
I will stay #teamnatural. The hospital that I went to two years ago to give birth to my son said that if I had an epidural that I had to have a catheter. They also said that it might not always work (and honestly, I was in the most pain on my back, so I was like, "a needle there? Screw that.") The "pain" wasn't even so bad! I had a couple intense cramp sensations and an intense need to poop during the last two hours of my labor. My son ended up coming out with his hand first, then his head. So I am very convinced that if I was hooked up to an epidural, I would of had to have a C-section, because I needed to change positions before the active labor so that he could come out easier.
Remember though the pain intensity varies greatly for everyone.

I am amazed by women who say the pain wasn't that bad. For me it was hands down the worst, most stratospheric pain I've ever felt. Just know how lucky and atypical you are to have had such minimal pain and be thankful, that's all I ask 🤣💖
I'm team women making their own decision. I've always wanted a natural birth, but I also have epilepsy. I'm now considering an epidural because I don't want to stress of natural birth to cause me to have a siezure. Having a siezure during pregnancy puts both me and my child at serious risk. This really isn't about being on some sort of team. Do what is healthy and what is going to work for you and your baby.

I delivered naturally twice so far and I'm so glad we don't have an option down here because i got to experience every thing the way I was supposed to because it's what God intended!
My friend has 3 babies and she had epidural and had vest experience.
I had epidural and love love it. I am currently 36 weeks pragnant and will make sure i do get epidural. We women in west are blessed with choices. Thanks to laws and medical teams.

I've done both-- and I would never again do a natural birth--- one time natural was plenty for me! Sooo painful while the epidural ones (3 births) were so peaceful and lovely!
after 3 births! can i ask a few questions? do you have back pain or a sensitive area in your back every time you bend or you touch it? What side effects did you have with epidural?
I actually had no post partum side affects from the epidural! My body always shakes during birth--- I thought initially it was because of the epidural but noticed even on the natural birth, my body was still shaking. All 4 births had their own special things and struggles but the epidural ones were easy recovery just like the natural one so I wouldn't go through that pain again. Not worth it for me!
I had my son without an epidural but it wasn’t originally planned that way. They gave me pitocin to “push things along” because my water had already broken when I got to the hospital. Once the pitocin started I went from 2 to 8cm in two hours and ended up not having time for an epidural. I think it worked out for the better because while painful, it was fast and I only had to push for 15 minutes.
Before I had kids I was team epidural all day. With my first I had an epidural, it was a good experience but the recovery was hard. I think my epidural worked too well and I had a hard time pushing correctly and had significant tearing. Back pain/bruising from where it was placed.
With my second, I went all natural and yes it was intense in the moment but the recovery was 100000% better. I could move around immediately and had no tearing even though my baby was over 1lb bigger than my first.
If I have a third I will absolutely opt for all natural.

So nice to finally hear some pros of an epidural. I'm only 14 weeks and ever since I found out I was pregnant I pretty much thought that I would want an epidural, but the last couple weeks I've been watching videos/researching and have gotten so scared of the epidural with all of the "horror stories" I've seen. It made me so scared of giving birth because I felt like I was going to be so afraid of getting an epidural that I would endure natural labor even if I couldn't really handle it and then be scared out of having another child. I do want to try to go natural but this video definitely makes me feel like I at least have the option of an epidural if I think I need it. Thanks :)

I have had 4 unmedicated births and was curious what a epidural birth was like because I am up late with my newborn and I watched a birth video. The mama in it had an epidural and at one point they calmly state "oh she is 10 centimeters dilated and it is time to push". Me, having only had unmedicated births, I was thinking, "wait they have to tell her it's time to push?". I think that would freak me out. But, It also sparked a curiosity in me about what the differences are. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your video and the comments were very helpful.
Oh man, I gave birth 4 months ago, naturally, and I thought I was going to die. You can not prepare yourself for that amount of pain. Luckily I was in active labour for 2 hours.

My baby came out thirty minutes after getting the epidural. So I think this and even back pains just depend on individuals.
I had both..epidural with my first and all natural with my second! With me I had an epidural last minute..had side effects afterwards..such as I couldn’t move for a period of time but went away after a few months..Second had natural birth..went in when I was dilated to a 8cm and they didn’t even have time to put an IV..it was soo horrible..I was screaming like someone was killing me and also traumatized my husband! I now Have a boy and a girl..so that’s it for me!!
Had my third baby 2 weeks ago. It was a very quick labor. Went in to the hospital 4 cm. Finally get into the labor room 6cm. Im in sooo much pain. Nurse recommends I get an epidural if i wanted one cause she had a feeling my labor was gonna be quick. 15 mins after I had my epidural. I was 10 cm. Pushed for 20 mins and out she came no tearing. The epi only took the edge off of my contractions. I still felt the ring of fire and boy that hurt. But all in all I was happy with my birth experience.

I got the epidural and I couldn't sleep at all! I didn't sleep or eat for over 48 hours and still managed to push my baby out! It's crazy how different everyone's experiences are. I had intense back labor and uncontrollably shaking and I was in a lot of pain! The shaking was a symptom of the epidural..that they didn't tell me about.
epidural progressed my labor..for both my labors...was induced both times.. like I got it when I was a 4.. and in less that 20 mins I was fully dilated.. and.. it was time to push and 4 pushes for each of my boys n they were out...

induction tends tomakes the labour progess qucker. I had all 3 in under 40 mins. Start to finish. I did scream for an epi, but the nurse told me in would slow everything down. I went natural. would definitely recommend natural. recovery is easier & quicker. xx

I was so scared thinking about getting an epidural but for anyone curious what it was like (atleast for me) youre already in so much pain from contracting that you dont feel it. They give you a numbing sjot first which feels like someone scratched your back and then you can feel the medicine going through your nerves in a cold/tickling type of feeling.. but it never hurt especially comparing to the pain of contractions and or back labor.
Freya Sol I had a shot a month ago called the garticle shot and it had a similar feeling. I could feel the medicine going through my body so I already know somewhat it feels like.

For when you are healing you get a lot of Thylenol ( i took that 2 weeks) and only staying in bed. That helps
That’s what I said going in. No one was going to give me a cookie or an award for not getting an epidural. As long as it was safe for my daughter, I’ll take whatever you’re offering for the pain. They even gave me an IV dose of Demerol before my first epidural. Now that was lovely. Lol

My birth plan consisted of two things: healthy baby and an epidural. I can't take pain at all so I'm always worried I won't get it in time.

I had my baby at home. My body did all the wonderful work, and I simply went with the flow. It was intense and intensely beautiful. Birth, as it is intended, is so much more than just pushing out a baby, ladies. It makes you into a stronger woman. If you can give birth naturally, do it. And it's so empowering to do it without any hospital interventions. I loved my birth and want to do it again 💛
I will never forget the feeling of the epidural being put in my back. It doesn’t hurt, but it’s definitely weird. I was able to labor down, which means that if I hadn’t had an epidural I would of been push for waaay longer than I actually did. I might try natural labor but the epidural really helped me. I could also move my legs and toes but my legs felt like they were full of metal and it took some effort to move them.
The recovery was intense but it was worth it!
American woman are very usedto get the epidural. I'm from 3rd world country, and when l delivered my baby in a public hospital, I suffered and screamed for hours !!!! My water broke at 7:30 AM I suffered very very very intense pain starting from 11AM till I gave birth at 10 PM !!!!! No medication ..... You have no choice and when the doctor say you can do it naturally, you just do it.

With my first born now 4y-old... I started having contractions every 5, then every 3 then every 1minute being in a taxi and my water broke, my contractions started at 11:30 or so, been in an active labor instantly because his head is coming out, I wasn’t able to get epidural (even I wanted to have to) I walked from emergency room to delivery room because they can’t put me on a wheelchair (cause the head is coming out, my son was born at 12:49... Pros: you can feel your body and know when to push, cons: you’ll feel the pain of the stitches 😖😖😖

Same! I'm due on the 24th with a baby girl! This time around I will be going natural! I had the epidural with my son and it was hard recovery time for me. Congrats on your baby!! 😘

I had epidural and I have no issues. It was amazing I was in so much pain. I slept and I was in no pain after the epidural.
With my first I was induced at 40 weeks, (I also had gestational diabetes) and I labored with out the epidural for a bit, the contractions were ridiculous, and I had planned to get an epidural and I was finally ready. After that I was able to enjoy my delivery, I progressed pretty fast still, and it really didn’t hurt bad at all. I only pushed for 15 minutes as well or so. It was a very relaxed delivery.
So many recommendations...all I can say is you have to know yourself. You gotta be able to know you mental state, if you're able to endure such pain. And if you're choosing to endure it, to be prepared mentally also. Therefore... IDK what the heck I'm gonna do... I'd like to have the control over my delivery, not having the baby stuck in there so long. But also, scared as hell of the pain since I know how sensitive I've become to physical pain.. Dang it

Once the baby comes from the vagina I consider it natural. In essence it's like saying if I'm having a headache and I take painkillers I am not having a headache because it didn't go through the pain?
But still a great post knowing the advantages and disadvantages :)

I agree. Any mama giving birth vaginally is going through it naturally. Any mother giving birth in any fashion is a badass. I like saying medicated or unmedicated 😂
Joshie lol no one is saying you arent having a delivery you're just definitely not having a natural delivery. Having a headache and letting it go away on its own without meds is natural having a headache and taking meds for it is not natural by definition you're being medicated which is not natural. Lol nothing is natural about not feeling contractions
Thank you for sharing. I did epidural with my first two and yes labor took forever. And I had bad side effect with my second one cause still to this day my lower back will hurt even whith cold weather or rain storms. I believe with my third and last one I'll go natural
As someone who self cathed (had to use a catheter every time I went to the bathroom) for over 2 years it actually doesn’t cause infections if you keep everything sterile it can actually be used to prevent them 😊 love the video I’ve given birth 3 times naturally and wanna try epidural but know nothing about it 😊

I had my first baby 4 weeks ago. I got my epidural at 9cm-10cm, quite late, it didn't kick in on time for baby delivery but it did for placenta delivery. I went from 2cm to 4cm in 30 mins and from 4cm to 9 cm in another cms, when the epidural arrived they thought i was at 4cm but i was in extreme pain, i couldn't talk, i was hugging the nurse and holding very much, they checked and realised i was already at 9cm and needed to get it fast and start things going. My recovery was super fast

My first baby with epidural. I arrived with 5-6cm dilated. I was admitted and elected epidural.
I would do it again. I was able to rest, talk, and my labor did not slow down. I dilated along nicely until birth. When the pushing came I was able to have energy saved.
I did have a foley but I was able to walk, urinate and my sensation returned fairly quick.
Epidurals are performed with a medication that is weight based as well as affected by gravity (laying on one side for too long will shift medication in your spinal canal to that area). I also had IV fluids and that may have assisted to flush out the medicine.
I had a terrible experience with an epidural. Had 2 get it done twice. Everyone's situation is so different. I also was numb in my leg for weeks. Could barely walk around. Be aware, anything can happen.

I had my first with an epidural, it was a horrible birth so grateful i had pain management. I hemorrhaged and had a third degree, then passed out from blood loss lol I didn’t heal for a year after from international infections and the damage. My second I had natural pain free, I was so scared I think my pain was worse just because I didn’t expect it to be so bad and the fear of having another near death experience. I’m now having my third in 5 months and I hope I can have it natural and with a lot less fear.
The limited mobility, being trapped in bed, is what decided it for me. I know if I’m in pain, I’m gonna feel restless and want to be able to move around on my own.
Just had my baby 2 weeks ago, and I was in so much pain but it went so fast that I didn’t even have enough time to get it. But if the labor would be long and I was in so much pain I would of get the epidural. My water broke at 10am and I had my baby by noon. It went so fast that I didn’t even realize that I’m having the baby.

Thanx for sharing..My little sister had an epidural, gave birth two months ago. I’m 6 months gone and definitely don’t want to do epidural due to what I heard, that later you’ll end up having a type of pain in your body which can be back pain or leg pain..so I’m not sure. Pray for me and tell God to make up my mind for me..🙏🏾

I had an epidural with my 8yr old, at the time i was 16 and it was somewhat easy, i also have a 2 year old and i did it all natural and it was horrible, went through so much pain i was asking begging for epidural but it was too late.
I am 8 months pregnant with my 3rd baby and i am getting the epidural for sure again.
Do not be so scared of natural birth! It’s totally up to you but I did it and you can too! It was SO EMPOWERING and I felt in control and I felt like I was doing it the way nature intended. I would do it again FOR SURE! just consider!
