    I love your channel. It gives me hope for all the kids. I’m 25, and when I was in foster care from 11-14 I had a really really traumatic first placement, then my second one was amazing. I’m still friends with them!

      Wow, thanks for sharing! And those preteen/early teen years are already so hard, I can't imagine all you went through. So happy you had a great second placement!

    Happy Mother's Day. When I was a teacher I appreciated every gift. I'm sure the kids teachers loved that you thought of them.

    I love your channel-I'm going through the home study process right now and this is all super helpful information! Do you have any tips (organizational ideas, finances, time management) for single foster moms? I know you aren't in that situation, but maybe you have some ideas :) Thanks!

      Thanks for your comment and congrats on taking the steps to become a foster parent - how exciting! I have a couple close friends who are single foster parents.
      My biggest tip for you is make sure to ask for help from your community!
      I'm going to post a couple of videos that I think may help you.
      First is my top 8 tips for new foster parents: ua-cam.com/video/IoLLK9EO5Gs/v-deo.html

      Also good friends of ours made this helpful video for new foster parents: ua-cam.com/video/neeN-k5USiU/v-deo.html
      We didn't have a bunch of clothes ahead of time because our age range was so large, but our church rallied around us right away and we had what we needed in just a couple days

    Hi Lisa,
    What were you going to share when the kids arrived early? It was about being called Mom.
    My foster daughter also started calling me Mom more and more. I discouraged it at first but it persisted.

    • @HappyHoppe
      @HappyHoppe  2 роки тому

      Basically to leave it up to the kid and what they feel comfortable with. If the child is younger, it'll make sense for them to call you mom and dad sooner.
      Other people should follow the lead of the foster family and what they hear the kids referring to their foster parents (i.e. first name or mom, dad, whatever the child uses).

    I love that you two get to get in a date night! Here in CA we as Resource (foster) parents are responsible for transportation to and from as well as monitoring during visits. It sounds like you have a great team for these kiddos which is awesome. This has not been our experience thus far, having to fight for every step needed for care. During the pandemic it was so hard when everything was only virtual and I suddenly had to be taught to be a speech therapist, occupational therapist and physical therapist. Still feel like this work is important, because you're right it absolutely makes a difference❤

    • @HappyHoppe
      @HappyHoppe  2 роки тому +1

      Oh wow! That's a lot extra for you 😢 I know some foster parents in Indiana do transportation, but I don't think monitoring. I guess it all depends on the level of visits court ordered.
      And yeah virtual for therapists and visits even are so tough!
      Do you ask for help? Like respite or even help with household tasks, driving? I know I'd need lots of extra help if I was in your shoes.
      I've found people want to help if I ask.
      What you are doing is so valuable!

      I've briefly discussed what I can on that subject in the beginning of this 15 month update video: ua-cam.com/video/eKCpJSF7Tng/v-deo.html
      Hope that can answer your question 🙂
