    Slosher specialist here.
    For anyone questioning how to use this for non-shooter weapons, it’s important to remember what Gem is noting at the beginning. There are some weapons, like shooters, that are able to get their specials faster & will use this strategy. For weapons that don’t get specials faster, you’re not always going to use this strategy & that’s ok.
    For example, Sloshing Machine does not paint well & has a 220p special; my job is not to farm booyah in the first 10 second. That’s not my responsibility given my weapons strengths & weaknesses. I just need to be mindful of when I need my special to contest the objective.
    On the other hand, something like dread wringer paints really well. So, flicking your 2 sloshes so they spread will help you paint for your special.
    Prioritizing paint & specials depends on what weapon you play.

      There’s also blob which can paint really well.

    The moment my first coach told me this it completely changed the game for me (I was on nzap and my first cooler was on average dropped a minute in- now I average 4-5 a game, sometimes as high as 7) - glad you're finally making a vid on it to make the info common knowledge
    Edit - after watching the video, I realized I still have something to improve on, cause I've been making it a habit to paint for special by paiting spawn until I get 75% abd then move up when you posit that you should be balancing between routing forward and painting efficently, this is why I love your channel!!!

    To anyone who is an inkbrush player, I like to use the 'spin' strat if you want to build up for special faster. Basically hold a direction to spin, and spam until ground's all painted around you. It's kind of dangerous to do when there are enemies closeby, since you turn your back to them, but it's quick and the fastest way to paint that isn't jump-forward-and-spam technique. While Inkb's are not support weapons by any means, it feels like you can get your specials deceptively fast if you start painting for it.
    Using what Gem said about avoiding other players, you can get your special by the time you reach mid and use your special (I use vanilla so wail) immediately. I find it catches people off guard and I can force an encounter and with luck, get a few early picks for the first push.

    This video is great, but I think providing examples for other weapon types would help a lot of people out. The concepts definitely apply to all weapons, but I feel more visual examples of, say, a roller painting for special while rolling out would be very useful.

    couple of things:
    despite what gem said in the video the same strategy DOES apply in turf war. you do not want to be spending too much time inking your base, you want to focus on taking the middle of the map, and you can ink your base when you get splatted (and in a game like splatoon you *will* get splatted).
    as someone who plays support weapons in ranked modes, i consider it part of my job to ink routes that the enemy team might want to take towards our clam basket/rainmaker podium, which both slows them down and makes it obvious when someone might be coming into our territory.

    A fun game I like to play when there's a disconnect right at the beginning of a match, and thus know it'll be ending soon, is to try and get my special and use it once before the game kicks everyone out. It adds that little bit of extra pressure to paint efficiently in order to succeed before the time's up, and it gives a bit of practice trying the route for that map.

  • @Keymerani

    This was the first strategy I made when I started playing Splatoon 2 post-final fest. I considered it as practice to help me beat Inner Agent 3, then moved on to Splatoon 3, lmao.
    As an inkbrush main, during ranks, victories for me vary from 700p, 7>3 (splats>splatted), 900p, 14>7, or 1200-1400p, 21/26>8.
    If I'm to go by Gem's logic, then yes, as an inkbrush, painting a lot helps you win a lot. Especially, ESPECIALLY if the enemy team is good or your team is lacking in some way that you can't counter for.
    But what about splattershot pro? Or slow chargers? The sloshing machine is a bit of a dilemma because it takes a while to build its special, but is overall a great weapon. It seems not every weapon should or needs to rely on building their special, as some shouls have kits that allow them to maneuver against many situations. If I don't have killer wail, I can throw a bomb, maybe roll away, swing my brush if possible, or super jump to spawn.

    Any tips for blasters mains?

    • @Smug-Sonic
      @Smug-Sonic 4 місяці тому +24

      One of any Blaster's weaknesses is that they aren't very good at painting, both supportively or aggressively
      Try to position yourself so that your shot takes as much turf as possible in as few shots as possible, but don't play a Blaster like a painting weapon 👍

    • @SquidSchool
      @SquidSchool  4 місяці тому +11

      Well said; there's not a blaster in the game that would paint for special fast enough to compete with something like a short range shooter, so counting on it to lead the first special push of the game typically means you're surrendering tempo to the enemy team, which will get their first special out faster. Learning to paint efficiently is great, and much simpler for you than for a shooter player, but this really isn't your job in orthodox competitive play.

    I use splash more as a slayer than support, with only really farming crab when we are at a disadvantage in numbers or need to prep some aggro specials for a push or for defence
    Is playing this way fine with splash, or should i opt for a more support focused playstyle/build.
    (If it helps, my team tends to run a more backless comp, with usually hedit for cooler (if crab edit is used, i switch to vshot and play purely as a slayer), crb/gal as a midline, and tri slosh/zaptri or tri stringer depending on the map and mode, and who on the team is playing. My question also applies to soloq, when i play solo splash, should i be trying to be a slayer more or should i play support for crab instead)

    • @MELcoholic
      @MELcoholic 4 місяці тому +1

      imo farming crab at the beginning of the game and adapting depending on how ur team is doing could be the best strat in solo q as it’ll give you a heavy initial advantage

    • @durdleduc8520
      @durdleduc8520 4 місяці тому +3

      one of the biggest strengths of Splash is its flexibility. it can be the slayer, support, or anchor at any notice and it can do those jobs very effectively. so in my non-pro opinion, there aren't very many wrong ways to play the weapon; but it's important for you to keep in mind that if there's a hole in the comp, you're probably the weapon best suited to fill it.
      you don't have to be just slayer or just support. for instance, if you find your team is struggling on rollout, you can start with a supportive/anchor playstyle and farm crab up quickly for the start of the game, and then switch to slayer once you've got the advantage. focus on what stages of the game your team struggles with (opening, retake, push, defense, etc) and consider how you could behave differently during them. it could also be possible to do this thinking on the fly in soloq, just based on the weapons your team rolls.
      that being said, i'm not a coach and not great at this game.

    • @Rosellei
      @Rosellei 4 місяці тому
