I got radicalized at my internship at a tech start-up. As a project management intern, I became friends and really looked up to the lady who ran HR. She designed and came up with all the HR processes and was brilliant without ever having a degree. It happened to be at the time the start-up was getting acquired by a company. The first thing they did was demote and gave her title to a new college grad that didn't know anything. She was supposed to train her new boss. When she found this all out she left crying and never came back. Sucks to have your entire self-worth based on an expensive piece of paper.
I worked as a server all through college, and though if I get a degree things will get better. That internship was my awaking that maybe the whole system is just screwed up.

What really radicalized me recently was losing my job during the pandemic as a mentally ill person with no insurance outside of that job. I personally deal with hallucinations visual and auditory, so there are times when, unmedicated, I am so disconnected from reality that it feels like I'm fading in and out with no way to tell the difference. I rationed my pills. When things would get bad I'd take just one. Realizing how difficult it is living as a young adult with a disability, seeing my friends struggle, seeing people I love worry about ever marrying because they'll lose their benefits, in an age where we're underpaid anyhow, it's truly dystopian. None of us seem to be at a point where we can survive without a roommate, but being in love currently only complicates it more. Do I apply for disability or do I continue the cycle of being in and out of the mental hospital twice a year. I'm not really focused on this as much as BLM and stop Asian hate but I'd really love to see the world change into a place where mentally ill people can exist safely. I don't like feeling crazy... And I don't like that capitalism is what's potentially going to kill me should I lose insurance again. Also reproductive rights are being Hella challenged rn and we really need to talk about it

If you go fishing and catch a red snapper, did you just catch $20/lb or did you just catch a tasty meal which is far more valuable(and how is it that we determine "value" in terms of "dollars"?) It's hard to not start questioning a system that can work you to the bone while you slowly starve to death.
Around this time I was watching lots of youtube on my phone since I couldn't afford T.V. or internet but had unlimited data and discovered some channels that just started making sense.
I went back to school and am living off of work and financial aid and it's way better, I can afford normal stuff now but I never stopped distrusting and even hating the system and seeing how it wrecks everyone around me. Guys, there is an important thing, I want to share.
I wrote this message today as an answer to a person who said ''Communist countries never worked'', but I think too few people will see it in the sub-comment, so I decided to write this as a separate comment here so more viewers can see it.
    I'm answering. Seriously. Very seriously.
I am from an ex-socialist country and let me tell you: nothing was more devastating in the history of my country (Russia) than the transition to Capitalism. Not Stalin's Purges. Not the hunger of the 1930s. Not the Second World War. The restoration of Capitalism in the 1990s killed and generally speaking destroyed more lives than anything in the last hundred years.
Just a simple example, my grandfather. Both of his parents were killed by fascists in 1941 and his house was destroyed by bombs. In a capitalist society, he would've stayed poor and uneducated, with no hope of ever escaping the misery. And yet, thanks to the fact that our country was Socialist, he was able to obtain high education completely for free (in fact, the university actually PAID HIM to study because he had good grades).
His dream was to become a pilot but he had problems with his health, so he decided to pursue a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, making calculations, as well as spending some time in the communal farms as a consultant. He also worked as a planner at some point in his life. You have no idea how primitive the planning methods were in the 1960s and 1970s, and yet the USSR economy was growing faster than the economy of the USA (yes, it's a fact, the Soviet economy was indeed growing faster than the American economy, which even pro-capitalist sources like medium.com acknowledge, even though they are trying to cover up this fact with some logical ''reasoning'' why the Soviet economy was ''bad''). Now imagine how planners would actually be able to plan with modern technology usage. Instead of that, we are still hectically creating new iPhones every year for some abstract $$$GDP, while the planet suffers.
Also, on the topic of food, by the 1970s, food security in Russia was actually higher than food security in the US, which was even acknowledged by the CIA and I even read their report on this topic, although they suddenly decided to ''unpublish'' it the last year from their site for some reason).
At some point in life he had a brain tumor, and thanks to the Socialist healthcare system, he got it removed for free. He did lose the ability to move for a few months, and even years later he could barely walk, but his thinking was mostly unaffected and after his recovery, he continued to teach at a university and was professionally active until his eighties (basically, he was a researcher and a professor from 1960s to 2010s), so he saw the changes in the economy first-hand and could see the devastating effects Capitalism had on both the availability and the quality of agricultural products (basically, the food we eat).
The transition to Capitalism also caused the shutting down of thousands of factories and there was unprecedented growth in unemployment, the growth in crime rates, the diminution in the quality of healthcare (in fact, it took us THREE DECADES to re-reach life expectancy which Russia had in 1989), not to mention the rise of depression, drug abuse.
Capitalism is unhealthy. It's a fact. Promoting Capitalism is like promoting the usage of coal steam engines when one can use more modern and more scientifically advanced, more humane alternatives.

Well, if it wasn't for capitalism you wouldn't be able to write this comment nor watch this video, because:
      A. Almost all (if not all) of the population's personal belongings were supplied by the government, and trust me, the communist government gives two shits about you having your basic needs met (that's why most of the groceries stores or shops were almost always empty), but to expect the government to provide you with devices that will lower your productivity???? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Nice try. Remember during communist times, people worked for the government and not for their personal interests/ needs. And you'd get paid, but where would you spend your money if every shelf on every shop was empty?
      B. The Communism was a social dictatorship and the media consumed by the citizens was highly controlled by the government.
My country was part of the Soviet Satellite States and my grandfather was FORCED to fight for that ideology and he had to serve the military, because otherwise his family wouldn't survive. I also know a friend whose family's property was expropriated by the State for "military purposes" and if they refused to cease the property, they would have been sent to the gulags as enemies of the government for not collaborating with them, otherwise known as soviet's concentration camps. Yup. Because that's how communism works.
I know that you're not defending the oppression of the Communism in your comment, but please bear in mind there are always two sides of the coin and perpetuating socialist ideas from the past century is -maybe- not the answer to our 21st century problems? Maybe we should think of a new system that acknowledges the progress we've made so far in the past century and start from there?
And of course, during the transition times every country suffered. I don't know you or how interested you are in history, but usually that's the dynamic of every systemic change, especially when it's in such a large scale as the Soviet Union fall.
      So, summing up:
      Communism = crap
Soviet's Satellite States= colonization, but make it Russian
      Capitalism= also crap
Dictatorship= dictatorship no matter if communist, nazi or fascist.
      Stay safe! 🖖🏼

Not to mention the higher rate of poverty compared to the rest of Europe in the USSR as well (ironic considering that the USSR was a superpower occupying the territory of other nations.) Just look at the former satellite states, they were under socialism for half the time and were more industrialized and less impoverished than the USSR. Compared to Russia today, the former Eastern Bloc is flourishing.

I think it started in 2012, post collapse, I watched a job I invested hard work and energy for five years lie and weasel into a termination based on the fact I rocked the boat and reported highly unethical behavior of my immediate managers. It's then I learned that these companies don't care about you, what you've done, or the ethics of what others do so long as they can save face or not get caught. That was my first trip, when I watched everything I worked for vanish and I had no savings, no retirement after a year of searching for a job. Next was student loans, finally realizing my parents' deaths were just another statistic, and how their struggles fed into their addictions and ultimately them losing their lives to their problems.
Now I can't unsee any of it. I can't unsee the exploitation, people using other people, concepts of selling my labor for mere dollars an hour just to afford food...struggling to live while I worked and went to school. Every step informed by how DIFFICULT it was just to live... just to have a bed to sleep in. Bad relationships, toxic people. It's as if the whole country is sick, suffering, an illness of the mind that they refuse to acknowledge, all the while things get worse for people less fortunate than me, people who don't have friends or family that can step in.
I feel so alienated, I can't seem to get people to listen, reflect. It's like talking to a wall. They just don't understand, and refuse to see how things have changed. I'm not sure I can ever convince them, but I won't stop talking or trying to usher in change and aim to build something better than what we have now, to try to provide real justice, real equality, real fairness to our world and every. single. human who lives in it. We can do better for each other, I know we can. Thanks for this. I know it's going to be hard, discouraging, rage-inducing. But you're not alone. We're not alone.

3:34 you are honestly the first white person I have ever really heard acknowledge the moment that they realized that what happened there was genocide. As a black woman I can appreciate that so much. I know this is really irrelevant to the topic and your video was not meant to be racially related at all. But a friend and I were talking about how our education system really screwed over White people. I feel like too many times we focus on White privilege and how privileged whites are, but I went to a predominantly white school with many of those same White kids, and the reality is our education system simply just failed them and shielded them them from the true reality. I mean is that really their fault?
I mean if a white person has been taught untrue and inconsistent facts their whole lives, how can they truly be self-aware? I mean they literally taught us that we just rolled up on the mayflower, and the pilgrims were happy to teach us how to make turkey and stuffing and cool new dances. Even taught us a few songs. I mean absolute complete b*******.
How can a white person ever learn about the ways in which they might have privilege while being simultaneously shielded from true instances in history that could help them understand. I mean wouldn't cognitive dissonance play a huge role here? I mean you have taught to believe one thing your whole life, and you are now realizing that is not the real reality.
The radicalization comes after you get over and cope with the cognitive dissonance. So I just wanted to say that even though I know your topic is not racial at all I really love that you included that in your journey to radicalization.

Oddly enough, i began to challenge the traditional political ideology I was brought up in through AP US history. One of the textbooks was “The Peoples History of the United States” by Howard Zinn and it teaches about what actually was happening throughout American history that we weren’t taught in elementary school. As a freshmen in college, I was lucky enough to take a course taught by Noam Chomsky, which really introduced me to the idea of present day imperialism. As someone who has organized for democratic campaigns, the vast majority of the staff are actually very leftist but often reign it in to toe the line of the candidate trying to win a majority of votes. I want our country to change and progress but in our current 2 party system it’s impossible to hold radical beliefs and actually go on to make real policy change.

I grew up poor and suffered too much trauma but I got a good education. I never once thought about blaming capitalism. You're taught if you just work hard enough the system will reward you. It wasn't until I was on medical leave from my tech job back in 2019 that I really started questioning what I knew. I think you're forced to question things when your entire identity is shaken to the core from something like that. It was a really lonely journey and your videos inspire me and show me I'm not alone. Once during my "awakening" I was out with friends at this downtown bar and had to use the restroom. There was a homeless woman in the stall and her 5 year old daughter waiting. It was the middle of winter so she was wearing a dirty pink snow coat and looked sad. I asked her her name and she seemed shy, so I decided to try to make her laugh by blowing bubbles with the soap in the sink. She giggled and started playing too. She starting talking up a storm and just completely brightened up. After a bit, I told her I had to return to my friends and she seemed sad but just looked at me and said, "You're so beautiful" so I bent down and told her that "no, you're was the beautiful one". When I went back to the table I was disoriented. It was surreal and I couldn't sit there at this fancy table in nice clothes, drinking $30 cocktails and eating cheese plates after meeting this wonderful little girl who was probably going to sleep out in the cold that night. I felt sick to my stomach and just went outside to cry. It was so f*cked up. 2020 and the hell it brought me life only reinforced how messed up the system is.

Hell yes. These kinds of vids give me life. I was radicalized by watching the events at Standing Rock unfold in 2016. I've basically been a rage tornado ever since, but god it feels good to see so many others joining the fight for a better world.

Honestly I used to watch you more frequently, then kind of drifted away, but since you’ve been infusing more of your beliefs and political opinions I have been jumping on each video! So 100% hell yeah!

I love this. I sometimes feel out of sync with people in general. Thanks for sharing this, and being brave. I'm very happy to find your UA-cam channel today and feel less alone.

I resonate with this so much and it is such an overwhelming thing to realize you’ve been lied to by the people you were taught to trust

for future usc students, i highly recommend joining the thematic option program for some real ass discussions and readings on class and leftist theory. i am in it and could not be more excited and grateful that i get to replace my generic GEs with classes that prioritize critical thinking nonconventional frameworks

My radicalization started with a simple question. "How TF are we still poor when we work so damn hard every day?"
And boom. I found Lenin and Marx and it all made sense.
    Workers of the world UNITE!
