- This is an amazing Chinese style meatball dish (焦溜丸子/중국식 고기완자 튀김) that will enjoy by everyone in your family including your toddlers. They go perfectly with rice and there's a mouthful of flavour in every bite!
Sautéed Meatballs in Brown Sauce
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs
300g pork mince 猪肉馅
Chinese Soybean paste 20g 黄酱/大酱
Potato starch 30g 淀粉
1 egg 鸡蛋
Spring onion 葱
Ginger 1 small piece 姜
Cooking wine 1 tbsp 料酒
Sesame oil 1 tbsp 芝麻油
White pepper 1 tsp 白胡椒粉
Sugar 1 tsp 糖
Water 2 tbsp 水
For the Sauce
Soy Sauce 2 tbsp 生抽
Vinegar 1 tbsp 醋
Sugar 1 tbsp 糖
Cooking wine 1 tbsp 料酒
Potato starch 1 tbsp 淀粉
Salt ½ tsp 盐
Water ½ cup 水
Cucumber 黄瓜
Carrot 胡萝卜
Black fungus (optional) 黑木耳
Spring onion 葱
Garlic 大蒜
Steps:
1. Soak the black fungus in water (optional) and cut the vegetables
2. Add the soybean paste, egg, potato starch, spring onion, ginger, cooking wine, sesame oil, sugar and salt to the pork mince and stir all in one direction
3. Add 2 tbsp water and continue stirring in the same direction until all ingredients are well mixed and all loosen up
4. Smash it a few times to remove air
5. Heat up the oil to around 180 c (350 f) and reduce the fire to low-medium
6. Make meatballs one by one and dip each meatball in potato starch before putting it into the oil
7. Once all meatballs are floating turn up the fire to high to make the skin crispy
8. Take all meatballs out once they are golden brown
9. To make the sauce, put all sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well
10. Heat up the pan with some oil, add garlic and spring onion, then add cucumber, carrot and black fungus
11. Add the liquid in the bowl to the pan, when the sauce is thickened add in the meatballs.
12. Quickly stir and cover all meatballs with the sauce and it’s done!
