Snapping my fingers too. Love the Four Tops. Back when songs were sweet and women were always respected. We weren’t Wh**es or B**ches.
That was back when woman were respectable. Woman didn't sleep around and burn their bras. You see, when you act respectable you get respect.
@@bigboy21123 It's not that cut and dry. This was back when they burned bras, actually. The late 60s. Even back then, women were discriminated against, but it wasn't because of the way they dressed or acted. The further back you go, the more discrimination. Even though the styles and clothes were more conservative as you go back into the past.
@@bigboy21123 Women were burning their bras during this period. We are still worthy of respect braless, Daniel.
@@brigittehuard4902 in a way. The song came out in 1964 and women burnt their bras in 1968. Just a year earlier the hippy movement started with the sexual revolution and expanding your mind that really started the culture shift that we have today. Having said all of that, I can respect you and other woman as human beings but I have 0 respect for the ideals of feminism. I guess it started out innocent enough with womans right to vote but as soon as a movement impeded on the freedoms of americans to do as they wish then I start to get a little pissed.
@@bigboy21123 Ok, boomer. 🙄
Levi Stubbs had the most amazing voice. I love the Four Tops, I could (and have) listened to him sing for hours.
Oh my goodness....I am a 74 year old white grandmother and THIS is the music I grew up on! Motown had absolutely the BEST music ever produced. Love seeing your reaction to all these good songs! I'm a faithful follower now.
It's fun for us older folks to watch young folks discover what we grew up with!
@@lokisan100 Isn't it!
Am 65 - same here!
His voice is smooth as silk. Trish age 66 xx
I agree. I listened to the Marvin Gaye Tammi Terrell duets the other day and they were amazing! Check out the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown. It truly is amazing!
You should do more Motown. Just pure soul. Great music.
Absolutely
Love Levi Stubbs voice!!!! RIP “Ain’t’ no woman like the one I got”
Also David Ruffin former lead singer of the Temptations and his brother Jimmy RIP all.
Next the wonderful writing of Gamble and Huff (The Sound of Philadelphia).
Definitely! 👌🏾
@@LivnNLearnin He should do a reaction to the O’Jays
@@surgedidit tell him it is Time to Get On Board the “Love Train” heading to the “Stairway to Heaven” where his “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby” “Brandy” awaits. Don’t let “Backstabbers”, or people hung up on that “Love of Money” prevent you from “Living for the Weekend”!!PLEASE! PLEASE! These are but a few! Rabbit hole alert: the sound of Philadelphia via the O’Jays!! We dare Ya!!!🙂😃
Levi Stubb's had one of the greatest voices in music history, period.
THE greatest
Motown Monday.....YES!!!! 🕺🏻
I agree!!! I would listen and relive those memories all day long!!
This was in 1964. Just loved it. In 1965 "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)" became their biggest hit.
The 60's was the coolest decade ever !!
Here's a Motown song to check out: Jimmy Ruffin - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted
Yes!
Yess!! Another all-time favorite!
Now that song "What becomes of the broken hearted." Oh no other like it..
I just posted about Baby, I Need Your Loving by The Four Tops and this tune is also a great recording. In fact, I will add one. He Ain't Heavy by the Hollies.
lbird the first record I ever bought
"Motown Monday" You sure got A LOT to choose from; no shortage their!!!
Definitely enough for all week...
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Monday
The Temptations Tuesday
Stevie Wonder Wednesday
Jackson 5 Thursday
Four Tops Friday
Diana Ross & The Supremes Saturday
Marvin Gaye Sunday
Lisa C Or there.
@@sammack1564 Gotta squeeze Martha Reeves in there somewhere.
This is the MOTOWN sound. The lead singer Levi Stubbs was a master at handling any song given whether it was a R&B or classical like "McArthur's Park" , NO ONE could top him. To date I haven't heard any one match his quality and tones. You must hear him do, "ASK THE LONELY"!! Awesome!!
His voice was so gorgeous!
Spot on. He can make a hatd heart cry.
From the Four Tops I recommend "Ask The Lonely" (live at the Roostertail)", "Bernadette", "Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got)" and "I Believe In You and Me."
Maybe that's why he was the voice of Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors.
Just Ask The Lonely really showcases his vocal greatness.♥️
Love me some Motown!!
I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) is another fun Four Tops classic
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟yes Motown Monday ! Yes a When She Was My Girl , The Temptations Marvin Gaye, Mary Wells, The Supremes ,The Marvelettes, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, Commodores, Gladys Knight, AND OF COURSE ISLEY BROTHERS
NICE!! I reckon he should watch the Blues Brothers and listen to the soundtrack for the Big Chill..then work backwards or forwards. Either or😉
No, it would be better to watch the Hitsville documentary. I think it was on Showtime. Also, there are other documentaries about the making of Motown. There are also movies like The Temptations that tell their story, and also chronicles some of their biggest hits. The Big Chill only had about 5 Motown hits. There are so many more.
As one of the Temptations once said about their rivalry with the Four tops "Levi Stubbs was a baaaad man"
The songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote this and many more of the Motown hits of the 60's. They had 25 #1 hit records and countless top 20 hits.
Motown rules.
fitth dimension, temptations, four tops, them great groups of the early RnB years.
Exactly. Some of my favorite Fifth Dimension songs are: Go Where You Wanna Go; Up, Up and Away; Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In. From the Temptations we have: My Girl; I Wish It Would Rain; Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me); (I Know) I’m Losing You; I Can’t Get Next To You; The Way You Do The Things You Do; Get Ready; Papa Was A Rolling Stone
Can't help myself with Four Tops. Great!
Never heard od the 4 Tops? Wow... you've missed a whole era. I was 18 years old. This was our music. Nothing on the radio today can compare to the sound of Motown. There's so little soul in todays music.
There's so little music in today's music.
I'm a white 39 year old English man living in New zealand and this is one of my all time favorite songs. I LOVE motown. Can't believe this man has never heard of them if myself, who was probably about as far away as anyone for who this music was aimed at, adores it.
I was 12 and tried to learn to dance by watching this on our black & white TV. Such good memories!
"Bernadette"!!!!
I love Bernadette!
Awesome song
Yes thank you for watching The Four Tops, my favorite group of all time!! Levi Stubbs is the best singer! Would love to hear you listen to Bernadette!
Yea baby boy, this is a 60s-70s thing. These Motown guys were slick, they were cool, they were groovy. No Levi Stubbs doesnt sound like Elvis.
😂😂😂 Elvis ???😆
@@jamarrhubbard7426 he said singer sounded almost like Elvis.
He is young and it was his first time hearing this song, give him a break ✌️
Elvis wished he sang like Levi. And I like Elvis.
Such a catchy song! Another vote for their song Bernadette, that is an amazing song!
Agree 100%
LEVI STUBBS.. ONE OF THE GREATEST VOICES OF OUR TIME..
" Get Ready" by the Temptations will get you up outta your chair.
Oh I'm so happy you're listening to this one... one of my absolute favourites - love those Tops!
This is your History ! Learn 👍✌️🇬🇧
Four tops and the temptations were fantastic. All their songs makes you feel great inside.
You may also like The Chi-Lites- “Have you Seen Her” and “ Oh, Girl”
I've done have you seen her
@@JayveeTV love that at kind of music ..stylistics,etc
Yes, react to Oh Girl, please
loved "Reach Out And I’ll Be There" from them, big hit in the UK.
Vocal talent always makes the difference.... ALWAYS! Great reaction!
God...what a voice!!! We still sing this in the car. Long drives...road trips.....shitty voices we have....but we belt it out!! Finger snapping & all! Now stop talking , I have to listen to it again❣️❤️
No one sings like Levi Stubbs. Sadly he left us a few years back. His music will stand the test of time. Please, more 4 Tops.
It's the harmonies and the tone of the vocals that make this beautiful to me
The woman’s voice during the chorus is so powerful and a really important ingredient to the greatness of this song in my opinion…
I get a kick out of seeing things like this, music from my generation being discovered by younger folks. Especially because when I played my music, my parents were like: “Turn that noise down and close your door!” “Just wait until you have your own kids, and they think your music is weird!” Well, nope. It didn’t happen! My daughter grew up liking all sorts of music: old, new, classical, rock, folk, name it. Your reactions are really fun to watch.
Four Tops "DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO" Amazing!
Love seeing the Four Tops again. How we loved their music! It's fun seeing the teen's outfits. Yes, we really dressed like that in 1966. I was a junior in high school. Motown was blessed with not only incredibly talented artists, but the writing talents of Holland/Dozier, and the music of the funk brothers.
Other Songs from the Four Tops are: I Can’t Help Myself; It’s The Same Old Song; Reach Out And I’ll Be There; Standing In The Shadows Of Love; and Bernadette.
You should also check out the Four Seasons: Working My Way Back To You; C’mon Marianne; Opus 17 (Don’t You Worry ‘Bout Me); Big Man In Town; Save It For Me; The Night; Walk Like A Man; Let’s Hang On!; Beggin’; Ronnie; Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You; Rhapsody; Who Loves You; and December 1963
Great stuff!!! I loved the spinners version of working my way back to you. fV and the four seasons hit so many out of the park!
Bernadette is my favorite!
Reach Out is my favorite
You left out 'When She Was My Girl' by the Four Tops from 1981. Great melodica!
*“Ain't no woman like the one I've got”* is another Four Tops hit song.
I love your reactions to the older songs. Its great to see a person hearing old songs for the first time.
"Ain't no woman like the one I got" is a good one also....
Don't think as "limiting", but of "celebrating" Motown to Mondays.
Mondays need Motown
Yes...please...
Everyday should be Motown day
I love the Four Tops! Thank you! I'd recommend I Can't Help Myself, The Same Old Song, and Ain't No Woman Like The One I got.
I love the Four Tops and this song is my favorite!! Reminds me of nights at the skating rink!! Kids these days have no idea!
Keep going Motown. Try Sam and Dave's "Hold On"
Excelllent track!!
Sam & Dave is NOT Motown. They were on Stax!
@@paulienebz My mistake. Listen to them anyway!
I saw The Four Tops and Frankie Valle at a dinner show in Vegas. Each did a set of their own hits and a final set together of Motown and pop hits. Dinner shows are very intimate shows and perfect for these guys. It was like they were singing just for me. All of their songs are sing along style. You can’t help yourself! Great reaction, you caught that immediately. ,
More Tops, please.
Lucky you!
Jealous!! I wasn’t born until the 80s, but man I wish I was around during those times!!
The 4 Tops did this in dinner theaters in Detroit before they signed with Motown. That was their element.
The Four Tops makes you fall in love all over again, they were one of the greats💜💜💜💜💜
One of the greatest groups to come out of Motown. Lead singer Levi Stubbs is awesome. They had a string of hits back in the 60’s. Bernadette, Reach Out and I’ll Be There, Standing In The Shadows Of Love. I love the songs you play. Don’t you wish you grew up in the 60’s lol thx
The Motown Sound was the best back in the 60’s! Great writers, musicians and singers.
Still waters run deep!
My parents are big Motown fans so I grew up listening to all this great music since birth. It’s crazy to me that there are people who have never heard a lot of these songs but it’s kinda cool to see people experience them for the first time 😃
I'd love for you to do Motown Monday's! They have enough songs to keep you going for a long, long time! 💖
This song brings back so many memories for me! I was 10 years old when this came out, and I remember listening to it, and singing along with it. They were a FABULOUS group. I don't know why they didn't get any bigger than they did, 'cause they were SO talented. Theirs was a LOT of the music I grew up on. Thanks for this reaction.
I remember this on the radio, in Melbourne, Australia.
Listen to The Four Tops sing "I'll Be There" still sends shivers down my back.
This one gets me. Those strings, that little piano riff, the bass, the voice, it's musical perfection.
They wanted him to do solow performance, but he never left the group.he was a part of the four tops and never put himself above the group.
It’s real singing Jay, no Auto tune and great Holland dozier Holland production for Motown!
*Reach Out & Ain't No Woman Like The One I've Got* Dude they were even before my time but they were awesome. And you gots to hear The O'Jays. 💃🕺
Fantastic music ....one of the greatest songs of all time.
Thats Levi Stubbs on lead vocals..
The incredible voice of Levi Stubbs. If I remember correctly, this group never changed their line-up. Same four guys to the end (when Levi died). Glad you found them!
I think Levi was the latest to die. Pretty sure Lawrence Payton died first, then Obie Benson. Only Abdul Duke Fakir is left.
Fantastic, The Four Tops, Levi Stubbs lead singer, outstanding, if i remeber Reach Out was number 1 both sides of the pond. Great Motown band, check out also The Originals singing Baby I'm For Real. A realy great Motown band. Great music Motown monday will almost certainly grab some more subscrbers. Keep up the reactions to this great music.
Also The Originals - Down To Love Town
OMG Jay really does need to do a reaction to The Originals. Now that was the song back in the day. I remember those parties in the basement with the red light bulb! Wow ! Now that's a throwback ! 🥰👍
Motown - Motown - Motown. Dont forget, Edwin Starr, "25 Miles" "War" "Contact" to name just a few and his version of Ooo Baby Baby with Blinky Williams. Starr was so popular on the Northern Soul scene that he quit the USA and came to the UK to live.
Every time I hear this song I'm reminded of that scene from The Jacksons: An American Dream where Tito starts playing this song on Joseph's guitar in the living room. "And you better not mess up, boy!" 😂
lead singer is Levi Stubbs listen to video live " when she was my girl " .
Levi Stubbs was the lead singer, and this was my favorite group from the 60s/70s. To me, he was the best. There was a kind of dual at times between the Four Tops and the Temptations. To me, no contest.
My favorite group from the sixties! Levi Stubbs voice captured a lot of us.
Aren't they fantastic!
RIP, Levi Stubbs.
Wow!!! I love the Four Tops so damn much, especially this one. This one was released when I was in fifth grade. Everything they ever did was GREAT.
"Motown Mondays" is a great idea. Do it!!! You're going to make Mondays less "blah" for so many people.
Yes!! Dedicate Mondays to Motown! You could still do Motown other days, but Monday’s are for Motown only.... Love the idea! 🌻
I love Motown Mondays! I LOVE The Four Tops!! Levi Stubbs is my favorite ol' school singer for sure! This is one of the sexiest songs of all time! RIP Levi. You are sorely missed!
So glad you picked The Four Tops!! Love their music!!! Play Still Water (Love). I have to listen to that song every couple days....my favorite Four Tops song.
Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - magical duo for Motown Monday
You have to listen to Bernadette and Standing in the shadows of love!!!!! Please !!!!!!! Soooo good !!!!!!
This song gives me goosebumps every time. One of my all time favorites.
Great tune, interesting to see a group from the 60s all wearing different outfits, love this, great reaction once again
Other must-hear songs by the Four Tops are ""I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" and "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" and "Bernadette." They were part of the famous Motown Records label from the 1960s-70s.
Diana Ross and The Supremes, 'Stop in the Name of Love' !
Listen to the background sounds: piano, bass, guitar, drums and strings! Fabulous! (Huge props to Levi Stubbs w/ the lead vocals!)
One of the all time best heart breaker love songs in the 60’s. So much emotion in those lyrics and in his voice. Love love the 4 Tops. ❤❤❤❤
Well Jay... I started snapping my fingers and my arthritis wouldn't let me. It was tough. lol Thanks for reacting to the Four Tops. I found this info on Levi Stubbs, the lead singer. Thanks again. Take care and be well. Peace.
Four Tops lead singer Levi Stubbs,Jr., died today (Oct. 17, 2008) at his home in Detroit after a long series of
illnesses -- including cancer and a stroke -- that forced him to stop
performing in 2000. He was 72. ... Laurence Payton passed away in 1997,
and Renaldo "Obie" Benson died in 2005.
Pat your foot friend get your groove on!!!! I feel your pain...oops that's actually my pain I'm feeling!!!😂😂😂
This absolutely bleeds the heart and soul of the 60's. Whoever recommended this to you, thank you. And thank you Jayvee!
Must be my favorite Four Tops performance -- and I've heard dozens of their hits, all great.
The Four Tops were a Motown group. The Motown label along with Philadelphia are probably two of the greatest labels to have produced such iconic artists and music. True timeless classics
Check out I'll Be There and Bernadette plus Ain't No Woman!😍
The first time I heard Levi’s voice I became a Four Tops fan! His voice caresses my soul.... My favorite Four Tops songs are “When She Was My Girl” and “Bernadette.”
I think it’s especially cool that they were friends in high school who started singing together and kept singing together.
“This loneliness inside me, darlin’, makes me feel half alive.” Yea, I know that feeling too well.
Your reaction to hearing Levi Stubbs' amazing voice for the first time is so familiar, and the beauty of it all is that you could hear him sing a million times and you will always have the same reaction.
They were so good loved your reaction thank you, The lead singer Levi Stubbs he was what made their group strong.
"Standing In The Shadows Of Love" is a great song of theirs. Definitely do Motown Monday and take a dive into Sly and the Family Stone.
Back when men were men. Gentleman who could SING! Miss those days.
And when women were ladies, classy,
real women.
It's a great thing that you young kids can still enjoy the music of the past, the best.
This is one of my favorite songs of all time! It's hard to have favorites because it's a lot of good music across all genres, but this song right here I just love it!!!
These are fantastic & please check out there other stuff cos this music is timeless & this is what you call proper music & proper artists 👍
The Motown classic Levi Stubbs on lead vocal and the Four Tops. Used to have “battle of the bands” vs The Temptations. Check out “Bernadette” by the Tops and yea early 1960s Berry Gordy and the Detroit Motown Sound
My favorite Four Tops song. I love them. This came out when I was in high school. Real heart breaker. I love the emotion the lead singer, Levi Stubbs pours into it. The song keeps building, “when you see me smiling you know things have gotten worse… any smile you might see has all been rehearsed …Darling I can’t go on without you….” Come on! these lyrics and their masterful performance is why so many of us loved them, so many great songs. So glad you liked them!
One of the best, and most romantic songs of all time!!!
React to The Four Tops: "It's Same Old Song"; "Reach Out I'll Be There"; "Ain't No Woman Like the One I Got"; "I Believe in You and Me".
The great Levi Stubbs often said to have the greatest voice on Motown. You should put on your list from Motown
If I were a carpenter - Four Tops
Pride and Joy - Marvin Gaye
It shouldda been me - Yvonne fair
Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder
The hunter gets captured by the game - The Marvelettes
Love it love it love. Such beautiful lyrics for someone in love. The best
Go down this rabbit hole. Keep dancing!!
Levi Stubbs was later the voice of Audrey II in The Little Shop of Horrors, but that's before your time too.
Such a great Motown group. Check out these other songs by the 4 Tops:
"Ain't No Woman Like the One I Got
"It's the Same Old Song"
"Sugar Pie"
Motown Monday sounds great, and I wouldn't mind if you "sprinkle it around" to other days of the week as well. My mom loved this music, as a result, so do I.
The Four Tops song that I recommend above all others is "Reach Out I'll be There". After that, I'd go with "I Can't Help Myself", "It's the Same Old Song", and "Ask the Lonely".
Always loved this song and the lead man's voice is incredible!
