I'm a Japanese 🇯🇵 who has been playing this game for almost 9 years.
Although this is a Dragon Quest title that has not been released overseas, I hope international players will also enjoy it. However, the system is old compared to modern game systems, the players, have been asking for more comfort.
This is a very long story.
The problem is the game's porch.
In this game, you can't equip equipment unless you meet a certain job level. As you keep upgrading, your pouch will fill up unless you discard your equipment or convert it into items.
If you've played traditional Dragon Quest games, you might think that you can just sell your equipment.
However, DQX has a system where once you equip an item, you cannot sell it in the player's market. This is because the game encourages players to convert used equipment into special items rather than sell them.
Next, the game's equipment ecosystem.
Each piece of equipment has a parameter called "usage level" which is automatically earned when you win a battle. If you raise this "usage level" to more than half, you can exchange it for conversion items.
Equipment is crafted by players called "artisans," who need the conversion items mentioned above to make a single piece of equipment. The conversion items are sold at a high price in the player's market. The artisan uses the converted item to make equipment and sells it to the market.
The player sells the conversion item→
The craftsman buys the converted item, makes equipment from it, and sells it to the market.→ The player buys more powerful equipment.
This is how the equipment ecosystem works.
New players will probably be surprised at the price of equipment when they try to buy it in the player's market.
This equipment ecosystem has led to a lot of equipment being reworked to higher levels, mid-level equipment is now dropping from some monsters in the past update. However, these dropped equipment could not be sold in stores and could not be turned into the conversion items mentioned earlier.
Nowadays, thanks to the ability to release the effects of advanced armor, advanced players can no longer convert or discard equipment that they have used.
This advanced armor also includes equipment from drops.
In the past update, which was made to solve the depletion of equipment for intermediate profession levels in the ecosystem, has been a major factor in putting pressure on players' equipment.
In addition, some equipment is traded in the market for new equipment at high prices, forcing us players to squeeze our pouches. The lack of pouch space is a perennial problem.
This is really the last thing I'm going to say, but it's for people who are going to be playing DQX or for people overseas who are already playing.
There are certain servers in this game where you can broadcast, and if you are not on those servers, you will be banned from the game.
If you are just starting out or returning to the game, you can broadcast on server 10.
Also, the storyline is up to version 2, and you can go through it for free.

As someone who is a casual Dragon Quest fan and who doesn’t play MMO‘s or online games at all I love DQX it’s so fun i’m so glad that I came across this video to convince me to go play because I love it so much
2:20 someone didnt do their homework. DQIX has a local multiplayer and is in my opinion one of the best RPG ever. Being able to create your own character and actually seeing the armor you’re wearing is so amazing for the limited capabilities of the nds. Yet they didn’t manage to implement even the armor in DQXI. I just don’t understand that they buried the mechanics of DQIX behind the big language barrier of DQX. They need to do a DQIX remastered or DQX offline US/Europe
I agree it's DQIX is the best one of the bunch and my favorite NdS game ever ! I always go back to it every 2 years and never get bored of it !
They recently added voice acting.
Which is really jarring if you're not up to 5.0 and you do the recent event where everyone is suddenly voiced.

@@thatguybis1997 I do a little dimmsdale dimma dab with my japanese knowledge to help me out. And luckily, like you mentioned, it isn't like ffxiv where it's WALLLLLLS OF TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXT. It's also smart enough and simple but layered enough that you can figure out the story beats with no real knowledge of japanese.
pso2 took over a decade. I still hoping this mmo get the same treatment as pso2.

You get your human body back right before the end of the base game. It's not locked behind an expansion pack.

Dragon Warrior on NES was my very first RPG. I had no idea it was Dragon Quest for years and forgot what the name of it even was, it was one of those really early childhood memories. I just remember loving a game where i could name characters and adventure. I don't think i ever got past level 1 or 2 lol, but at like age 4 i was having a blast!
I would love to get this working. Dragon Quest games have a certain charm to them.
I play the game but I’m unable to make friend to join me ;( not cause I have social anxiety it’s cause y don’t know how to type or invite friend to join me , is it possible to do it ? Or I have to pay subscription like wow ?
Although I doubt this would make it to my top 5 mmos of all time. It is still a game I really want to play. I have played through every Dragon Quest, except for this one. And I enjoyed 9 quite a bit, and this one is basically an expansion of its concepts and ideas.
For people wanting to play the game there is a tool out there that auto copy's the in game dialogue, and this can then be put into an auto translated program

@@thatguybis1997 one of the tools is called copy translate it's just available on github and auto translates whatever is on the clipboard and then on the woodus dragon quest forums theres a program called DQ10dialogue that copys the text from in game, i can't remember the exact links

FFXIV is a "fun slog" until you finish MSQ, then you realize "Oh shit I'm free" and the game opens up in a beautiful way.

Man I really hope we get this game in English. I'm so close to just learning some Japanese to play this. I've had it on my Switch for months, but I haven't played it since I can't understand it. SE really needs to bring this over instead of all the DQ mobile games we've been getting.

@@aleckbo there's no need, there are tools now that translate the entire game for you. I've played around 60 hours so far in English with no problem other than the odd wonky translation that's more funny than it is frustrating.

@@aleckbo Yep. You run them in the background after launching and they replace all of the in-game menus and dialogue with English.

The combat really reminds me of FFXI which is still my favorite MMO to date.

it would be fun if they had a system like in dragon quest 8 with the monster arena, you collect your own team and then just click battle and they fight another team from a different player.
this could be added in the casino area and other could bet on it or something like that.
I am a big fan of Dragon Quest series, and I played almost every single game in the main series and finished some of them like 5, 7, 8 and 11, also I played many MMO games starting from Line Age 2, World Of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14, from day 0 of Dragon Quest 10 release date until this day... I am dreaming of this game and I really need to play and enjoy it... but the Language barrier is the problem for me, I am happy while watching this video of your experience... I hope one day they bring the game to the west... thanks alot for the video
The translations are at a point where versions 1-5 story cutscenes are fully hand translated. I forget it was never localised sometimes because of how good the translations have got

Been having a really great time with this game, love the story, the combat, the characters, and i even got lucky to find a large group of english players! Playing with them makes it so much more fun

Was watching a let's play of this a while back. Seems a shame an English version of this never saw the light of day. Kind of looks like a mix of FFXI & XIV mechanically, which could be awesome.
I'll be kind of disappointed if a gutted single-player version is released in the west.
The mount makes a huge difference. Its much faster then walking
My first experience with mmo was final fantasy 11 on the ps2 and I enjoyed it but never completed it.i spent 3 years on that game.
ESO was my second mmo ,never completed it eather ,spent 4 years on it with my ps4

I feel you I been playing FFXIV since Realm reborn and.. I pretty much skipped most cutscenes lol. I know many love the story but I don’t really play mmo for story, I play for end game content, loots and mounts! End game raids including ultimate is challenging and fun with your raid team :)

I actually played this thing for 6 months on the wii u when I was a transfer student there in University. Almost failed my courses there because of this game.
I highly recommend getting the mount, it's super easy to get too. It increases your walk speed by 2x or more

I don't know if anyone in the comments have told you but a couple weeks ago someone made a translation tool for PC called ahkmon that translates the dialog in English so you can understand the story now! It's way better than Google translate
I know you own it on switch but if you buy it on pc your account and sub is shared so you only need to buy the game again on pc. And if you wait til the 26th of May it'll be 35% off!

@@thatguybis1997 All things aside I'm glad you at least enjoy some, if not all MMO in general. I recommend finding people to play with (Maybe there's western player community somewhere for this game?) that's the core idea of MMO after all.
@@blazeburner4039 there are raid bosses im p sure. EDIT: most bosses are 4 players but Im aware that 2 bosses require 8 players for them

Dragon Quest IX isn't just single player it's the very first game to have multiplayer up to four players on the DS as well in the series though it's not a MMO which Dragon Quest X takes that place, 2:17.

Im a seasoned MMO player myself. I believe finding other folks you want to play with is a crucial element of why people will play MMOs longterm. I don't think I would have stayed playing FF14 beyond its main story if I didn't run into my guild. Its not as fun doing content by yourself.

My only gripe with it is that you can't have a full party to control. It's other offline players that you can hire, and you can't individually control or edit them. I don't wanna go solo on missions, but I want other characters I can use in my party like in any other Dragon Quest game.

I started playing this game because of this video, I understand a bit of Japanese thankfully so its not too bad getting into it. I am having a lot of fun I totally recommend people try it out.

Yes, it’s entirely playable using google translate. It can get a bit tiresome though, I won’t lie.

I was watching the 35 years dragon quest video and man, i never have seen this mmo but just by the videos of the presentation, and with the live comments, i was really hoping this game comes to the west, i really want to play it now, i know they are doing an offline version that i think is coming to the west, but well, i think the mmo one could still be the better one maybe, its the way it was originally designed
It's always a shame when I see people who don't enjoy xiv. It's such an incredible game. DQX looks pretty cool too though.
I tried playing it, but i don't know, it really looks a lot better in the later levels but i just dont get the disposal to play it for a lot of hours in boring parts just to get to the good parts after a lot of time investment needed in the beginning
I couldn't agree more with being bored to death in XIV. I hear people talk about how awesome it is constantly, but then the towns themselves are zoned, and I got to like level 9 or 10 without leaving the town, and I was just...just so freaking bored. That game moves at a GLACIAL pace.
Yeah it’s a such a shame. Personally I liked the entire game as a whole, especially when you feel like a low level pleb. Lvl 80 literally feels so powerful.
Same here the game clicked for me instantly upon playing. Although admittedly had it had none been for my friends who gave me pointers to unlock a lot of the basic stuff that will help you go a long way I might have dropped it out of being lost in what to do at one point. Understanding what I should be doing in the game or what I can do made the game so much better for me.
I just finished DQ11 and loved it, wanted to know if there are other games from the series on current plataforms but 10 is the only one and it's region locked, damn :'(

I remember beating DQ11 3DS version in japanese just because the formula is exactly like dq1 to dq9, and also by the help of muscle memory, memorizing the placements of abilities in the menu. 🤣 Show no mercy and fight wisely helps too, feels like achievement

I really enjoyed FFXIV then again it was my first MMO I played, so my experience was much different from yours and really enjoyed it even more first few hours.
I'm sorry but if I cannot understand the language, and have the look up a video or website, it's just not worth it for me, it's the same issue, I have with Phantasy Star 2. Sorry but I'd rather just stick to FFXIV, I enjoy it's combat and it's stories.
I just can't help think your really hyping this game (though I do believe you like it), just to put down FFXIV just because it's popular, as if it didn't deserve the level or praise it gets. I get the first hours of the game are slow, but hell a lot of MMOs are like that and people still enjoy. I guess it's more of a patience thing.

i can see a contrast between ffxi and dqx, ffxi also has an insane amount of gear progression/stat allocation system, but dqx does look interesting, i'd give it a shot if it came to the west.
You should play dragon quest 9 on the ds. I heard rumors that there will be an offline version of dragon quest 10 releasing in the West, but the visuals look a little bit "different".

yeah I also cant stand mmos, The clutter of them is more annoying than fun for me like you need 30 different key binds for your abilities and need to remember ability 5+8+20 does this effect while I need abilty 6+19+27 in case this happens like no. Also FF 14 Is a subscription based game lmao no thanks. Dragon Quest is such a big hype in Japan that Japanese ppl would Q overnight for the latest releases (like how ppl Q for iPhones).

@@forcepalmproductions9158 in my 30s. I started teaching myself japanese when I was 11 or 12. In university, I kinda stopped being so serious with the study after an academic exchange in Kyoto, but its like riding a bike. You never really forget.

@@forcepalmproductions9158 Katakana/Hiragana aren't a problem. Kanji is the true end game. It's said you need to be able to read some 2000 or so to read a newspaper(just to be considered literate). I can read only 1/4 of that number now. My number was higher in the past.

If you play the game on PC there is an auto translator someone in the Dragon's Den made, it works wonders on understanding what's going on in this incredible game. Plus you can play your Switch character on PC if you link your account, definitely worth a try!

I'm genuinely curious, how does turn-based combat work in an MMO? Is it an ATB-based thing or is each person assigned an initiative at the start of combat?
It’s an ATB-based thing from what I can tell. Works fairly well actually. Obviously though I doubt PVP would work very well in DQX.
@@thatguybis1997 Theres a pvp arena in the game, where 2 teams of 4 players fight each other, whenever someone gets ko'd the player respawns after a few seconds, and the team with most eliminations after the time runs out wins, although pvp doesn't really fit the game at least it exists, and ive heard it is pretty fun too

This game sure seems a lot of fun.
I'm not an MMO fan either, however, I recently got into The Legends of IdleOn. I am super addicted to this game, oh my lord☠️
I legit think it's the perfect MMO. It allows multiple characters all linked to the same account that share the same storage chest, you unlock more as your collective level gets higher. Also, it allows AFK farming, so you do need to grind a lot, however, you can just set your character(s) to do it, then go to work, and reap the benefits when you get home (AFK farming is slower, but not unreasonable, plus, you can level AFK speed up). It's literally an MMO you can get somewhere on without wasting your life away just to get somewhere! It seems simple at first, but there's more to it than meets the eye.
It's essentially a 2D RuneScape that's not as boring and far more engaging. The only con is that the better items and features are behind a paywall, however, you don't need to pay to enjoy it/get good gear, but there are certain really great things you cannot get without paying, such as auto-loot. On the bright side, you can wait for offers, and they're very, very reasonably priced. Auto-loot cost me £4.79, and it came with 8+ chest spaces, and +6 bag spaces, as well as 900 gems. Any other game, that would cost £20-£30.
