I do not have a 5d mark IV, but I have other Canon cameras (1dx mark II, 1d mark IV, 6d mark II, and other models). Personally I turn off also the "high iso noise reduction", even if I shoot in raw. Indeed, if you take a picture at high iso with the noise reduction on (which in my opinion is very aggressive, even at the low setting), the jpeg preview that the camera shows could become quite soft. In some cases this could be misleading, since it could make you think that the picture is out of focus...
Not surprised you've got 52k views been reading about setting up my canon 5d mk iv on various sites and videos and you've nailed it here... You cover so many other great points I'll be saving your video and changing my set up as there are lots of great golden tips here.... Thanks again for the time taken this is so good and helpful
Wow Sabine, thank you for getting me through all this clearly, my 5Ds is now set up as yours and the logic is clear - didn't ever get this far in, tended to get lost before the end. Now not only is the logic right but it's actually done! Thank you.
Thanks Sabine. It’s easily one of finest tutorials I have watched. I have an 5D Mark III and I could relate so much to it. I enjoyed thoroughly but I might have to watch it more number of times especially the * button aspect. I am diving into it right away. I have no doubt that many many others will benefit from T his video. Easily one the best. Thanks a lot. Keep them coming. JP, Chennai, India.
it's nice tutorial for 5D mark iv in these mirrorless camera days after going through repeatedly most queries are resolved thanks you & team Pangolin your all tutorials & suggestions are very useful to everyone 🌹🌹🌹
I'm a photographer of all sorts, landscapes, documentary, concerts... As the 5dMark is a 'Jack of all trades' I was surprised we have a very similar setup (bought one in August new for 2200€). I think the genres are not so far apart from each other just you use longer lenses. What I liked is your setup for the asterix button, will try it!
I'm so glad you're taking the 5D4 through this so recently because that's what I shoot with. There are some that are writing it off because of the mirrorless line-up. I still have so much to learn so you got a sub from me. Thanks for this!
Good morning , Sabine :) I am Nikon user, but I like yor videos very much. Not only because they are very informative and easy to understand, but also because your voice is very nice and your face is so bautyful !! :) I am looking forward your next videos. Have nice time !! Jan
Great video Sabine, super helpful as always. I shoot with 2 camera bodies. My main is the 5dmarkiii and the 2nd is my 77d. I know the menu on the 5dmarkiii doesn't have all the bells & whistles that the 5dmarkiv has, but the majority is the same. So I'm gonna set my 5dmarkiii up accordingly and try it out sometime during the week. Thanks!
Thank you for the vid which is very useful. I also watched your colleague Janine's video on exposure compensation which is also great. Can you explain how I adjust the exposure compensation without going to the menu on the back screen? Many thanks, Andy
Interesting and very informative video. I'm surprised that you, with one exception set up your 5D4 exactly like me. This video will help anyone with a 5D4 to set it up to be a very good wildlife camera. Thanks and keep these videos coming 🙂 Greetings from Norway
You did not discuss the use of C1, C2, and C3 on the mode selector wheel. I set C1 to shoot moving subjects, C2 for more or less stationery subjects, and C3 for landscapes. The settings aren’t always perfect, but they are a good starting point.
Hi there. Check out this earlier video where the C1-3 modes were discussed. hope you find it useful/entertaining. ua-cam.com/video/OVjmFp2NV_8/v-deo.html
Thanks for your input. I personally do not use the custom settings at all but good that you mention it because I am sure it will be helpful for others ;)
Thanks for this lovely tutorial. However a doubt.....AF area selection button, has been set to toggle between different AF areas. But AF-ON and star * button have been already assigned single point or point with 4 helpers.
I thought for sure we are going to see a video about the R5, while most Pangolin photographers use Canon...5d IV was great in 2016. I know, I know it is not the camera it is the photographer that counts, but it would be great to see a review of the R5 from the Wildlife Photographer point of view
Hello, thanks for watching. I used to own a Canon 7D2 too and I thought 3200 was alright and only in extreme cases I would push it up to 6400 ISO but only given that I am close enough to the subject so that I do not have to crop later.
Just watched this and the one on 5d IV setup and I am loving your work 😃- I am still deciding to move to either the R5 or R6 - We are struggling with weight and want to improve our hit rate with the shiny new AF on the mirrorless bodies. Any thoughts you have are welcome though I think the extra ruggedness and top lcd plate are steering my toward the R5.
Thanks a lot! I just got my canon 5d mark iv and I am still learning how to set the camera up. It is very different from my nikon d3400 (duh) and it might not be a logical switch but I felt the 5d mark iv fits my needs perfectly. Thanks again, you have got a new subscriber :p
Hi Sabine, I've been wanting to set up dual back button focus on my 5dmrkiii for a while now but simply cannot get it done. I've looked at other UA-cam videos and my menu is not as detailed as shown in the videos. If I press info for a detailed menu I only have and option to Manually select AF point or Register AF point. That's it, nothing else where I can select the drive mode or focus zones. So I only have one menu option after I pressed the info button and not 4 as shown in several other videos. Am I missing something?
Very goodmorning Sabene ..i used to watch your videos , they are really helping me to improve my photography skills ..thanks for that .... recently ibought a 5d mark4 ( used one ) ..i have 6d mark 1 too ..even though 6d is fantastic camera the focusing abilities are not that good ..thats y i bough 5d4, while comparing both 5d mark4 and 6d raw files (13,1/125,iso2500)..i noticed my 5d files are noisy compred to 6d ...am i missing some thing in 5d4 settings ?.... 6d image quality is better than 5d4 ..? or due to over usage of sensor my 5d4 lost its image quality ?..kindly help me ....
There's a couple of videos that may help you... Here are the titles. They are not the exact model that you have, but maybe they are worth checking out anyways: - CANON 5D CLASSIC VS CANON 6D MARK 1 REVIEW - 5DMarkIV vs 6DMarkII in 2021? | KaiCreative
Is it possible to switch easily between two sets of button configurations? The three custom shooting modes, C1 C2 and C3 don't seem to list button allocation amongst their saved settings. My wife and I each use Mark IV's but often swap cameras to avoid switching lenses.
Hi Sabine...bit confused. I followed your set up line by line. Could not wait to get out and try it. Went to coast chose some boring seagulls..... BUT when I focused the centre on the subject instead of stay with it the focus point "jumps" to an area in the 0015 click position it totally loses the subject matter.....any ideas?
Do you have a Canon 5D Mk iv? Are there other settings that you have set up differently?
Hey, Kleine!
Du siehst ein wenig traurig aus.
Nicht wie sonst - strahlend und total happy.
Soll ich mir Sorgen machen 🤨

Brilliant! I will need to watch this a couple of times and have the camera with me using the pause button so that I can check my camera settings.
