Hi Justin, I built a Chic Shaw 4 months ago. It's been doing great 👍. One change I made was the axle assembly. I used 4. 3/4" pillow blocks and a solid 3/4" steel rod. Set screws lock the axle in place, thus no issues with the axle locking up and backing off the nuts. I also made a locking, hinged door for the laying boxes. We started with 21 hens and still have all 21. My neighbor warned me of a Bobcat in the area and I felt the need for the added security of a door over the laying boxes. They should be laying soon they're 16 weeks old and we're excited for the first eggs. The chick Shaw is working great and has been a great experience for our 2 grand daughters. Probably doing some Sea Monsters in late summer, but both of our freezers are full. My axel modifications were only $38 so not really much more than your original design with threaded rod, nuts and washers. I'm also making plywood covers for the front screened areas for Winter. Our NO TILL GARDEN is absolutely Beautiful and we're now harvesting onions, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, and more. It's hot and dry here in southern Indiana but our garden is looking and producing beyond our expectations. My squash and zucchini are almost 5 feet tall, the cucumbers are already over 8 ft tall on a arched cattle panel. The BACK TO EDEN GARDEN IS AMAZING! It was a great amount of work but it is paying off now that we're starting to harvest. I've gardened for 40 years and never had a garden like this one. Bless you and your family 🙏 and be safe and healthy. We love watching all your videos. I have learned many helpful things from your videos. PEACE BROTHERS AND SISTERS 🙏💙
I would suggest a one piece axle going all the way across with straps on every board for extra strength since you have added chickens and distances to pull. Nice having the pigs trained to the bucket
The force of the 4x4 is too much for the coop... It happens. Much love from a fan in Morocco, I have been following you since 2016, 3% of my English language comes from you & your family 💜💜💜💜
You need to change your axle design. 1. run the axle completely from one side of the tractor to the other, use rod a coupling nut to make a splice if necessary. 2. drill thru the 2x4's for the axle, do not use those metal clips. 3. use nylon locking nuts and washers to secure the wheels and set the rolling clearance tension.
I have days where everything seems to be falling off, falling over and I just get distracted by it all! At least it's worth it for all that delicious food on your table. Man I need to stop watching your videos at night they make me so hungry 🍔
Pretty sure this is the only audience participation homestead on the planet. The fact that "Stay with me guys." generally means I'll fall on my head or bursitis shoulder today, is of no consequence 🤣👍
Dear, oh dear.... an inventors glitch becomes an even better invention in time, we have faith in your resilience! Impressive piggy move, for me it is a testiment to your consistency in handling your animals. Our garden just isn't so productive this year due to such a cool Spring, hoping for improvement as weather heats up. When ya'll are already Fall prepping I got a bit depressed...happy for you, make no mistake, but Summer is flying by. Wishing you all every success!
Justin or Jonah take a piece of pipe thats just the next size bigger and sleeve the chick-shaw where the axles pass under the wood. This way it wont tear into the wood.
Frankly what's happening is you are using EMT straps to mount your axle, way under designed especially for bouncing over your terrain. I amazed it lasted as long as it did! Use a full width axle, bore holes through the wood frame all the way across for the axle then pin the wheels to the ends of the axles so they are free spinning and the axle isn't bound but supports the total width of the tractor. YMMV
So we used your plans for the chickshaw and didn’t buy the wheels you suggested. On the night of the 4th of July, I was moving the chickshaw and the dang wheel broke in HALF! And the other one broke too. So we’re on the hunt for new wheels. My husband said he’s going to make me some Flintstone wheels! 😂
I have a question about smoked meat. I had always thought the smoke contains carcinogenic substances. Is that wrong? You all seem to be really enjoying that flavor though🤗
If you used either a single threaded rod connected to both wheels or put both threaded rods inside of a piece of EMT conduit to connect them, there wouldn't be all the torque on the pipe straps trying to twist the wheels off. Now that you're pulling it behind Sally, it might be worth the tiny bit of extra weight to have a single connected axle connecting both wheels for strength and durability.
Wow, not a great day. Bet you were happy to see the end of it and there is a new one tomorrow. It's gonna be better. Thanks for the video, reminds me that we all have such days. Be safe.
The little clips you use on the chickshaw could be replaced with mild steel 1-1.5 inch angle iron, cut into 4 two inch lengths and on each of these drill two holes on one of the angles , one each end in order to screw to the chickshaw, on the other angle of each drill a hole in the middle big enough for the threaded rod. Line up two of these making sure the rod is running true then screw down, repeat for the other side , then put your threaded rod in and bolt the rod in place ( nuts and washers on both sides of the angle iron brackets) when tightened this will stop the rod from turning, then pop another washer on each rod fit the wheels then another washer each side and finish off with a lock nut each side making sure that the wheels rotate nicely . This will take a little bit more effort but will be much stronger and your wheels shouldn’t drop off again especially as you are now towing the chickshaw over rough terrain. Best of luck.
Should have your axle span the entire width of the shaw for better support and easier to attach more securily to the base. I remember seeing the two individual axle pieces when you had it flipped to add the hitch and wondered why you didn't have a single axle.
A Bengay moment if ever there was one. Had a wheel come of a tool storage trailer we were hauling over the grapevine once and the tire came zipping by us. We all laughed at the idiot who'd lost it before we realized it was from our trailer. Have to admit, I'm with the chickens on how that affects bowel control in a moment like that.
I wonder if you could put the axle all the way across (I know it is to save money, but time is money and if it keeps coming off it is costing you money.)
Piggies on the run.. nah they just be like WHERES OUR FOOD..lol Shh dont jinx yourself.. you jumping today may get tangled next week shh...😆😆 Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
My mom and I want to get meat goats we do have a “garden pen” basically an old dog pen a huge one but we don’t know how to care for them. I want diary goats we can do a lot for goat milk.

Man what a rough start to your day and lots of little things that could have got you down. Love how you stay positive and not let it bother you.
So happy you show your trials as well as your triumphs...show the real side of homesteading..js
The force of the 4x4 is too much for the coop... It happens.

lol, Justin your explanation of what was happening....under there.....lol, priceless. Only someone who has been "there" would understand.
Oh mr. brown’s hamburger at 9:20 made me laugh I even had to replay it he played it off so cool after just put it right back on his plate
That hamburger FLEW! - Mr Brown's reaction was priceless!
Your next baby cow should be named sheep because when you go to wean them they'll come to their name lol. 🤣
I like when the chickens come out of the coop

You have officialy reached the "we smoke everything"- stage
Am I the only one that loves seeing the goose come out of the chicksaw?
That'll teach you to move the chick shaw without tha main man, Jonah! He would have had that fixed in no time!!! lol

Hello from Pennsylvania! Just put my chicks out to their new coop today! Love the homesteading life and the videos you share.
Just a tip. when working under chickens, always keep your mouth closed and ware safety classes.. lol
love daily uploads. its always something to look forward to
hey all, another day on the farm...have a good day...

the place is sure looking GOOOOOD Uncle Justin.
Nothing like taking the pigs for a nice stroll
That is so cute, they following you with the bucket🤗.
Hands up who knew that wheel was gonna break
Hello big support from albania italy and germany 🇦🇱🇩🇪🇮🇹

Lol lovely piggies came to get their breakfast, you were too slow 😀
I know!!
You had your hands full! Darn pigs were bucket broke thank heavens! Hang in there. Love the vlog!
Thank you for all your great videos!
I have a question about smoked meat. I had always thought the smoke contains carcinogenic substances. Is that wrong? You all seem to be really enjoying that flavor though🤗
So glad you got your wheel fixed! The pigs made me laugh out loud so much!!! Great job!!😃💜🤣🤣
Thank you 🤗
The ending of another great day. Stay safe and healthy.
You have inspired me to keep all kinds of animals and to one day start my own homestead
Those 🐔 are NOT happy with their journey. Glad you got it figured out. Seems like a Monday kind of day.

Keep making things better Justin! 👍👍💯💯
Love the clogs but sure wish they were longer like the use to be . Keep up the good work n thank you for raising ur kiddos up right
Get a bigger and newer one! Keep things going!! Beautiful family!🇺🇸➕👍🤗🌺
Nice chickens!
I'm still trying to figure out how and what to do for winter gardening... will you be growing in the greenhouse or do you just do the tunnels?
Oh my goodness! Your pigs were singing for their dinner 🐖🐖

OH JOY! THE FUN OF FARMING.
Justin. Isn't caller I.D. one of the best things ever invented? Lol.

Justin, you might need some ball bearings to fix your wheel problem.
Been busy , but miss watching your videos ..from mexico
Often wondered, but I'll ask it now: What do you do with the abundance of food you're growing? Are you selling locally?
Love u guys y’all are so awsome

Justin? Have you heard from Meg and fam after their truck wreck the other day? Can't find posts on their wellness.
What material would you recommend to put on the ground in a chicken run?
Sometimes it is not about one thing being better than the other just being pleasantly different
look for " vertical bearing bracket "
When do you replace the with chips in your chicken area by your garden?
Or do you just keep compiling them
Once a year in the spring we harvest the compost from the chickens and add more wood chips.
What is your bed time?
Bumpy ride for the chickens
How many animals do you have on the farm now? Gotta be a record,
Right?
Thats a bummer. Why not have a solid bar from wheel to wheel. That would stop the wheel from falling off. Hi from South Devon UK.
I wonder if you could put the axle all the way across (I know it is to save money, but time is money and if it keeps coming off it is costing you money.)
I love your channel
Hey Justin, can you do a breakdown on ur water system. Very interested
Soon.
Nothing to see here, just walking my pigs.
Is is not a solid axle ?? Why only one wheel falling off ?? Just asking
Never liked that set up with the wheels. Youve had many incidents with those axles. Maybe a better axle fore 2020 (-:
Love your videos
Are you or are you having someone trim your sheep's feet....or do they even require trimming?
Piggies on the run.. nah they just be like WHERES OUR FOOD..lol
Shh dont jinx yourself.. you jumping today may get tangled next week shh...😆😆
Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
To bad someone should build a chicken coop plans that can withstand hard .life on the farm !
Maybe that's you ;)
My mom and I want to get meat goats we do have a “garden pen” basically an old dog pen a huge one but we don’t know how to care for them. I want diary goats we can do a lot for goat milk.
Why 100 days? Can't you get crops in August?
We grow ALL year round. 100 days is just the heigth of the "growing season" and it's fun to mix it up with a series theme.
Cool
Justin you should have called AAA.!
You and fam ok?
Mmmm, yummy all animal based breakfast 🍳 🥓 🥩
You need a whole new design foe the axles. I know you will come up with something. Good luck.
the pig piper :-)
Some days...
What a day huh?
Dang get a loader tractor to lift stuff ???
hmm where are the comments
Do a solid axle
wewe all the way home lol
The Pig Piper
What's it like talking to us UA-cam people? Does it feel like your talking to yourself? Those are some really tame pigs.
Maybe drill through the 2x and put a double nut on the inside
Ur axel doesn't go all the way across.....
Yikes that's how mobile toters loose a wheel on the road.
💜💜💜
Could be worse 25.
Chckens.
Too much weight on bracket
You're a good mechanic.
EDIT: Don't your pigs have tusks?
Thanks for the content.
Keep up the good work.
