    RECIPE:
    THREE INGREDIENT, ONE-RISE WHOLE WHEAT BREAD
    You’ll not believe how easy this recipe is. You’ll want to make this loaf over and over again.
    INGREDIENTS
    4 ½ cups whole wheat flour (450 grams, or 1 lb)
    1 3/4 to 2 cups very warm water (237 ml to 414 ml)
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 ½ teaspoons dry instant yeast (or quick rise)
    (Optional: 1 teaspoon sugar)
    HOW TO MAKE:
    In a large measuring cup, sprinkle the yeast over the warm water. If you are going to add sugar, add it at this time. Stir well to dissolve the yeast. Set aside for approximately 5-10 minutes to activate the yeast.
    In a large bowl, add the whole wheat flour and salt. Combine.
    Once the yeast is proved, add it to the flour. Stir all to make sure the flour has absorbed the water. If the mixture is a bit too wet, add a little flour. If it’s too dry, add a little bit of water. With your hand gently turn the mixture over to mix it all together.
    Place the dough on a floured surface. Briefly pull the dough into a ball and flatten it out into a rectangular shape and roll it together to create a loaf shape. Into a greased 8” x 5” loaf pan, add the dough. Lightly cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise to just above the rim of the loaf pan (approximately 35-40 minutes.)
    In the meantime, set your oven at 400 degrees. The oven rack should be in the middle position.
    Once the bread has risen, place it in the oven. Bake for 40 minutes, until golden brown and it sounds hollow on the bottom of the loaf if you tap it with your knuckles. If you have a kitchen thermometer, the temp should be around 190 degrees.
    Place bread on a cooling rack for 5 minutes. Remove it from the pan and allow to cool for about 30 minutes before attempting to slice it. DELICIOUS!!

    I love this recipe, no oil and egg. Sooo yummyyyyyy....I use this recipe to also make various breads. Raisin bread, cinnamon, cheese, etc.. i just modify according to my taste and cravings. Perfect recipe for me. From philippines. 🇵🇭

    I did this one rise and it was perfect. I was so excited. This was my best bread and the easiest. My husband was skeptical because I wasn't doing an overnight rise. Punching down dough and letting it rise again for hours. I almost gave up on bread making. Once again, I am so excited. I did however use 2 cups Organic Bread Flour, 1 cup Organic Wheat flour and oil. Thanks for the one rise!!!!

      Can you tell me how many fluid oz water you used as she wrote 13/4 - 2cups of water and here in the UK we do not say cups we measure in Litres of ml or pints or fluid oz ?

    I used your recipe and it came out fairly good, its a heavy loaf but i can cut quarter inch slices and it does not fall apart. taste good too, for a sandwich I use a slice of my white bread that is the same size as the whole wheat and one slice of the whole wheat. makes an excellent sandwich.

      Water I believe is not considered an ingredient. Then there's the absolutely optional teaspoon of sugar. Flour, Yeast. Salt. 3 ingredients. Amazing stuff to make into bread.

    Only one rise. No kneading. Wow! I wonder if this will work using white flour? Looks so easy. Love it!. 😍

      I know, I know! Right? You gotta try this. It would work with white flour. However, I would suggest a little longer kneading on the counter so the white dough will become a bit smoother which will make the final loaf a really good texture.

    Hi! You don't need to preheat your oven a whole 40 minutes, just until it comes up to temperature. The bread rising will take approximately 40 minutes. Hope that helps.

    I love home bread but the kneading was my problem so when I saw this recipe I decided to try it. It was simple to do and I liked the outcome.its a dense bread that reminds me of pumpernickel bread I even left it 20 minutes over the stipulated time in error and it was perfect Thanks

    I decided to make this bread and I'm eating it right now, sitting in front of my laptop. It turned out great, just the right consistency, crispy on the outside and medium density on the inside. Chemical-free and full of fiber. The only question is about salt. It tastes very unsalted. I wonder if just 1 teaspoon of salt isn't enough. If I use more salt next time, how many teaspoons/tablespoons should I add to improve the taste? Also, what else can I add to it to make it a bit more tasty? Maybe some condiments or spices?

      I'm glad you're enjoying the bread! Sure, you can add herbs, etc, to it. Regarding salt. I'd not add more than another 1/2 teaspoon and see how that tastes. 1 more teaspoon might be just fine if you enjoy salt. I'm sure that didn't help all that much, but I hope it gives you a point of reference.

    thank you SO MUCH for sharing this recipe! I've been using a 2 rise method and it takes all day and really hurts my wrist! This is going to be a game changer! ❤️

      The two rise all day method is to make sourdough bread or so I thought. I love sourdough but wants to try this just to show my hubby 2 rises are not necessary to make bread (plain that is).

    Well, you've got my attention, I didn't know you could make 100% whole wheat bread without kneading, always thought it would come out heavy and dense. Will give this a try EVEN though the kneading is my favourite part!

    I always put parchment in my pans when making bread. Even in my pampered chef pans cause its easier to get them out
