  • Thanks for tuning into Becoming Something! It’s our goal for you to intentionally become the person God has called you to be. We’ll release an episode each week with answers to real questions that college students and young adults are asking us. Listen in as Jonathan Pokluda, Nate Hilgenkamp, and Kathy Davidson help you navigate life in your 20’s and 30’s!
We’re all becoming something. Who are you becoming?
The phrase "spiritual boundaries" is common in the dating process, but what does that mean? When you are dating are you allowed to pray together or not? In this episode we talk about how to make sure you honor God in the way that you date and pray!

I ate a potluck as a child and the spaghetti tasted like cigarettes. I’m with Nate on this one. Church members are out here smoking while cooking-ashes falling in the spaghetti and all.

Something I would love to hear you guys talk about: Should Christians dream big dreams? Should we desire to follow the big dreams such as jobs & pursuits?
I feel that I have these dreams for my future that excite me, but I don’t want to be so self consumed with what I want for my future that I am discontent where I am. The thief of joy is unmet expectation, and I don’t want to waste my days, months, and years chasing selfishness.

I was in the same boat. I've had the same dreams and desires since I was a kid. But I always worked on those while in school and later while I worked a job. Still prayed for those dreams and gave them to God while working towards those goals and dreams as well. Three and a half years ago I started pleading with God since I hardly saw any progress towards the things God has put in my heart. After almost four years of prayer and seeking guidance I felt a calling to leave my job and trust God. It was scary for me, but I realized at some point there will be a time where all who follow God must follow him in full dependence, relying on Him for provision and a lamp for your feet. One day at a time. So my advice is continually seek God in prayer, in His word, in community. It may take years it may not but you will know when He calls you out of a season and into another one. Where you are right now is "prep-season".

I totally agree. I would love JP's thoughts on pursuing your own dreams and desires in life. Is it selfish? Or is it what God wants?

I don’t know about this one, I’m married and my husband and I prayed throughout our dating relationship. If you’re connecting with the living God, how can it be bad?

This is so good. I completely agree - keep intimate things where they belong - in marriage and out of dating.

Would it be possible to go into further detail on how to pursue long completative prayer? How does it differ from meditation?

Predestination and free will can both be true. Is God confined to what we say is true? We do not need to understand how, just praise the God who can allow for both. :)

What about praying over a waiter or waitress if they’re the opposite sex?
