I've gotta say I didn't realize there were so many parts in a machine like that. I was considering building a loom something like your but I might reconsider just buying one. When I don't know. Meanwhile I'll keep an eye out for one.
There are some with fewer moving parts. When I started weaving, my spouse did consider building a loom… he is very experienced with wood, metal, engines and most things that have mechanical moving parts. He told me he’d probably need to make at least three looms before he got one to his satisfaction and would take a few years. Then he said, If you want to weave now buy a loom.
The two metal bars and 2 clips that hold the heddles - what do you recommend for cleaning/maintenance? I have encounter issues with difficulty in opening the clips.
When the shafts are in the loom it can be more challenging to move the center clips. You could take the shaft out. Either way on loom or off I move the heddles away from the center, pushing them as far as I can to each side. This allows the bar to bow a little to open the clip. If you have the clips with the spring and “knurl” you could put a very small drop of oil inside, sparingly. To clean you could use a small brush.
Very good information for maintenance! This helped me revive my loom! Thank you both for sharing your knowledge!
You are welcome.
Excellent! I will save this video to rewatch before the next time I warp my loom!
Please do!
Thanks!
No problem!

Thank you for the reply and recommendation. The video was very helpful. I have a 4 shaft Kessenich floor loom.
How about Bees 🐝 wax.
I would think that would work. Never tried it.
