For a person like me who is barely starting to focus pulling this setup is really expensive no doubt but shows perfectly how you seek for the perfect pieces to make the focus pulling more efficient and "easy". You should make more videos of the 1AC role but like step by step on a day of prep or shooting. I'm searching for that type of content cause I'd finish college but in general no one really teach you how to be a good camera assistant with all the do's and dont's and had to learn by looking someone else working. And I know there's many people and awesome AC's who learned that way but on this era everything runs faster and for me, that I'm kinda still young in the industry. I need to learn everything faster to make me more efficient and comfortable on every set. Cheers from Chile! And I'm really a fan of your content and the way you explain everything.
just left my 9-5 at the studio to commit to freelance. Putting money together to purchase my first real AC kit. This gave me more confidence in my decisions and I really appreciate it.
Hi Jesse! I really appreicate your input on these systems. I'd love to know what your opion is on this system and setup a year and a half later, and if you have any recomendations for an asiring 1st AC looking to by a pro FIZ in 2024!
I’m using a slightly different set up these days but the Teradek RT system remains the go to FIZ. I love it, it’s the perfect system for me. If you’re looking to buy something soon then I really can’t recommend the RT enough. The other big systems are at least twice the price for essentially the same features.
Okay thats great to know! curios if you've heard any rumors about any next gen FIZ on the horizion I feel like then nucleaus M needs an update and at tiltas rate should give us one soon but also I wondering if DJI will come out with a fully fledged system soon or teredeck with an update or if its worth just buying into somthing like this or saving up for an ARRI Preston or Cmotion@@JesseNelsonDP
You could definitely wait and see what comes out. I know there will be a new RT system soon but no idea how much it’ll be. I don’t see tilta releasing any new pro level fiz. They seem to be focused on the smaller camera builds/one person operator side of things. You could definitely save up and get one of the Arri/preston/c motion systems but in my opinion they’re to expensive for the feature set when Teradek is offering the same thing and half the price.
Lovely stuff once again! Good luck with new system, looks so good. Btw if you’re powering the monitor and teradek from the v lock, does your d tap cables have regulators in them? The v lock I own is the SWIT S-8082s and I cant find out whether the d tap output is regulated or it will fry my monitor/teradek. Have emailed but waiting on a response. Wondering what your two cents is? Thanks!
Thanks! I’m not powering anything from the Dtap anymore because the v mount plate on the Teradek module powers everything. Most, if not all, dtap on batteries these days are regulated by the internal chips inside the battery. I don’t see why the Swit batteries would be any different.
Hey Jesse, firstly thank you for the video, i found myself coming back to it while i was contemplating investing in the RT system or not, and even more so now that I've committed to it. I'm just wondering what has been your experience now that you've owned it for quite a while? How are you finding it? Any quirks or things to look out for? The tof.1 specifically is something I'm still thinking about and can't really find any good reviews for. I know it's no cineRT but is it useful on set? Is it only useful in specific scenarios? Is it good enough to get you a dolly shot first try? Sorry if it's a lot of questions!
I love the system. For the price, it’s punching WAY above its weight. I haven’t found anything I think is a serious minus. There are some operations that are a little clunky when changing lenses but nothing I would consider a major minus. Overall I think the RT is the best all around system, arri and Preston are great for what they are intended for while the RT is more compatible with todays smaller camera builds. 10/10 would recommend The TOF.1 is a tough one. I have one and don’t really use it all that much. It works great and can be a very helpful aid but with the cameras I’m using getting smaller and smaller it become a issue of where to put it. The beam angle is fairly small in comparison to other range finders so getting a accurate reading during a take can be difficult. I use it more of a reference in between takes or to get marks. The auto focus feature can be useful for getting slate if I don’t want to it move my focus knob but honestly it’s more work than necessary in my opinion. I would say get the TOF.1 if you know you’ll use it a lot otherwise rent one if a specific job calls for it.
Sorry for the delay! I love it, it’s not a tool I completely rely on so the beam angle doesn’t bother me. I use it as a reference to get an idea of where I should be with focus but understand it’s not going to be 100% accurate 100% of the time. It’s a nice tool to have but not a necessary one.
FW version 1.2.5 release notes state that they added motor feedback support. I've checked my unites and I can't figure out what that means. I was hoping it would be a vibration when the unit hits a set mark. Any idea what this motor feedback support could mean?

Such a clean new build man! I can’t wait to one day upgrade my nucleus m kit to a Teradek rt kit!

Can you make a video of you building this rig ?
Yes I can!

How are you finding the TOF1? I'm hearing the beam angle is too narrow which is stopping me from pulling the trigger on it.
Sorry for the delay!

Could you get foucs points on the Portkeys BM5 with this follow focus. I just got the system and looking to use it :)
Show😊
I'm in the process of building a nucleus kit, slowly buying gear.
