Alan Doig, a former finance manager at Gedling Borough Council, stole around £930,000 of taxpayer money over nearly 20 years to fund his gambling & porn habit. He moved the money into his own bank accounts without getting caught for a long time. Eventually, the fraud was discovered, and he admitted to what he had done in court.

Odd how benefit over-payments are swiftly highlighted and meticulously recovered but this thief appears to have been fiddling while sitting back with his feet up for 20 years.

@@dougaldouglas8842 Well if it happens in one, rest assured it's quite a normal, shall we say a perk? Ffs, we all take the odd items, pens, paper, that sort of thing for personal use, from work. However, most of us haven't got access to the financial side of things, that's where scrutiny should always be directed to. Makes me think, the money people in charge, know all about how to lets say abuse the system?

Nice work Man bun....don`t know what to make of the sentencing or the chances of recovering the money he stole. Kudos to the part time employee on returning to work blew the whistle on the ongoing fraud. What the hell were the full time Council bosses doing to overlook this theft for so long ?

@@gingerali You are conflating two very different things. Lawyers et al 'milking' the system may be a valid assertion. There is an easy fix ... get yourself some books, learn The Law and then start practising pro-bono. Problem sorted. Good luck.
