Do you believe we enjoy Free Speech in India?
Absolutely! Only till the point its not against the supremo. I agree with Apar's vision of the society but it will take a lot more than just free speech to build that world
Go to vatican if you dont like it here ,, nobody is begging you to stay
Not at all.. We are afraid of speaking what we feel without any prejudice. However it depends on what effect it creates on power and as well society.
@@Geertwilders865 how's that bowl daddy modi is giving you? Keep licking it. Have some self respect and stand up with your fellow indians instead of playing middle manager for some politician lol
@@abhishekbose8665 bring in the US constitution as it is in India with the Right to Arms. Only then i will agree to the Absolute free speech model. Otherwise it will result in riots and mass violence with the police running around with sticks and bike helmets
Oh Boy. From celebrated news anchors shouting and spewing venom in the name of debate, this is a breath of fresh air. I am sure many Indians may have by now forgotten what a debate is. Thank you for reminding what a debate actually is. Let there be more. Thanks.
India needs a culture of healthy debate, unlike what we see on News Channels and their events. I hope this platform grows to become something of substance...
2 plate biryani laga idris😂
bhai eid is around the corner, zaroor khilayenge...
Mereko special badke ka mangta. 😋
Bro will you please watch this debate without making any nonsense commentaries. Is it important to bring the same repeated tv channel arguments every time.
debating does nothing... its just virtue signaljng nothinv else
This is exactly the format we need ❤
This is wonderful and need of the hour. Thank you Faye. Also plus one on the fact that freedom of speech should be absolute and must be the right of each and every citizen. Only then for ones who spread malice and hatred can be counter questioned and brought to justice.
loved this first episode! would have loved to see a longer version with less jump cuts though. it felt like both speakers were jumping from one thing to the next because the editing style chopped up their arguments.
We should get an uncut version!!
No matter who wins, it’s the process which mattered. Loved the debate format and both sides carried out their discourse with elegance and without barking (aimed at most of our politicians)
The problem with restriction is that it depends on the govt of the day in power. Its never implemented fairly. And this is the main reason it should be absolute. Without restrictions to avoid any unfairness
Heres a temperature check for free speech - Kashmiris DESERVE equal rights and the right to self determination.
Lovely show Faye... look fwd for more
Can we please have more good faith debates like these, please?
Wow I loved this. Thankyou for bringing in this series Faye. Much love and respect.
Love the format! Especially the fact checking. Keep it up Faye & the Team, eagerly looking forward to more such episodes in the series.
Loved the editing, the set, the format, and the content of the debate, thank you Faye!
Absolutely love this format! Keep them coming Faye!
This is not for uncultivated minds. Such a debate is proof that democracy lives because of our need truth.
Great format, great arguments by Apar❤ (though many more by him were interrupted) Long live freedom of speech
This looks like intelligence squared. I’m so proud of Anand and Zain and team for creating something like this in the Indian Context.
Desperately looking forward to new updates!
PS: I miss Hitchens so much, I’ve binged on every minute he has ever spoken on issues like these and I wish there was a way we could get him for future episodes.
Very interesting! Keep it up!
With the podcast I'm so proud of the comments there's still hope for our country ❤
Please make more of these
Free Speech in India exists so long as we dare to speak and stand by it..
We all do want a world of health debates.
Please make more of these...... Much Love and Support ❤
Will the full uncut debate be posted? This is very intriguing.
Excellent new format, thanks team ❤ looking forward to more
G8 initiative Faye, of course, with restrictions on both sides of debate on Freedom of Speech. Good going and hope to catch up more of such informed debates with amazing debaters like Apar Gupta & Samyak Chakrabarty with their own wisdom, expertise, and vision for the community, society and nation as a whole. Thank You
I'm glad you liked the video!
PLEASE DO MORE OF THIS.
Please make more of these.
Woww! Finally something that is bearable in the name of debate . Let's bring the decency back !!
Excellent work, debates like these will help open up minds to different perspectives, thank you so much for hosting these and looking forward to the next debate!
Refreshing to see a real civil debate
All I can say is Apar was speaking from heart. He is passionate about what he believes - right or wrong ? It’s subjective and complicated. All I can say is India needs to debate in a civilised manner.
Free speech?? My reply - debate it!
Reminds me a little bit of "we the people" that used to be telecast on pre Adani NDTV..ah the good ol days
Amazing. A respectful debate after years.
We want more debate episodes like this ❤.
Hope to see more of this. ❤❤
Hope is Eternal with Faye
Yayyy!! Awesome new initiative! ❤
Really thought it was a Netflix show 😂, great editing & quality.
So much respect for you Faye …
Creating such a space in the prevailing hostile environment is an act of tremendous bravery .. Kudos to the entire team for pulling this off..
When is episode 2 coming?
More power to you Faye. Debates like these are the need of the hour.🎉❤🎉
Reasonable restriction is required.
very intresting..democracy means full freedom of speech ,no one should be stopped from speaking their mind punished or jailed.
Loved it, Faye. Keep these coming👍.
I wanted both of them to address law interference in both their realities.
I am sinking in the sanity of this debate. Too elated to think of free speech. There still is hope in people and diverse voices can make reasonable arguments without mudslinging and calling each other names. Kudos to Faye!❤
Super work Faye. Excellent compering. Of course you are above current "normal" journalism
Thanks
Thanks!
What a debate!
Amazing! Loved it! Looking forward for more😊
Glad you liked it!
It'll be nice to see the debaters shaking hands at the end
I like this format
Wonderful debate, I agree with Apar, I think utopia would be to believe that ppl in power would be just. Freedom of speech is necessary to question the power
Interesting program
Amazing!
I love this kind of conversation .
Next "Privacy vs Right to information "please
Why does my mind imagine police walking in there and arrest everyone? Why my mind imagine govt taking down this video? Why my mind is like this?
Because like the first guy said, we as a society live in fear. We're looking for the shoe to drop and can't conceive that we are allowed such info or quality of programming
We never had an issue on freedom of speech until 2014 ! Nowadays for anything and everything we have to bear the consequences which is worrying?😔😞☹️
Haha
I think you were born after 2014
@@ekla801 Yes! Any problems 😂😂😂
@@Omnamahshivaya010 There is no problem,am just saying keep the basic facts correct and stay away from fools because nowadays internet is available to everyone so it is not difficult to do research on anything or any topic. You will easily find many articles about which government actually restrict freedom of speech.
@@Omnamahshivaya010 aur ye mai tumhare liye hi bol raha hu bhai kyuki aise lame comments Bina kisi evidence ke sath debate karoge to log tumhe bully kar denge
@@ekla801 : My comment is based on my life experience ! For that no need any research or proof !
Very, very engaging.
Illuminating.
Thank you!
Very good issue , Faye appreciate your courage and indepth understanding of current issues and then presenting them to people , for them to decide.
When we talk of freedom we are speaking of a platform where trust, and honesty exists, so that social consciousness can arise to tackle any hidden agenda of hatred and oppression.
Creating restrictions only compounds the notion that people are not smart about their choices and therefore need to be restricted. When you have the freedom to speak your mind there is a learning that evolves in the social consciousness which makes for a better world diverse yet united, or you get a uniform society where everyone repeats the rhetoric of the person in power. If you need to see the impact of restrictions you should compare India and China in the eighties and nineties..
I second Gupta’s views because it takes courage to trust than to restrict just because things could go wrong.. just talk to a child who has experienced freedom of speech and one who hasn’t.. you’ll without a doubt second Gupta.
Loved it! ❤
Congratulations, Faye! This is a brilliant stuff
Damn! This might just be the best thing to come out of the shithole that Indian media (mostly mainstream) has become!🔥
Free speech wins this round for me. A lot of incidents can be curbed, if we could criticize the government.
The debate subject is a no-win for anyone.
Free speech is needed but can be misused.
Checks on free speech by authorities is needed but can be misused.
Fact is we the people need to behave and speak responsibly and so should the authorities. This is practically impossible.
Why there isn't that many comments here
Great initiative Faye. Much appreciated it
Quite liked the debate but reading a pre programmed script defeats the very purpose of debate.
Debate is studying the subject and preparing an argument.
Reciting loses the very essence of a debate
However very good pointers on both sides
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think the argument is tilted wrongly. It is better to frame it as free speech versus arbitrary restrictions.
Freedom of speech is a fundamental right in many societies, but it's not absolute. Reasonable restrictions may be placed on speech to prevent harm, such as incitement to violence, hate speech, or defamation. Balancing freedom of speech with other societal interests is often a complex and ongoing challenge.
Can u suggest this moral lessons to ur muslim countries
So Charlie hebdo cartoons should be allowed in india right?
Forget Charlie hebdo.. they could not digest quotes from their own kitab
Can I say 56 year old Muhammed married 9 year old Ayesha. This is what Nupur Sharma spoke.
@@aanakrukavi muslims do not disagree with that. Do they?
All love and support, Faye ❤
💯
He just lied about Umar Khalid. He didn't invite violence. He emphasised on Gandhi ji's idea non-violence.
The crazy part is how a word or sentence is twisted n misinterpreted by the ruling party, whatever the opposition parties says. But the ruling party can say n do anything.
Dhaaga khol diye bhaiya... I hope bhakt understand. india ready to a big change
I almost forgot what actual debate looked like😂so debate is not fighting and shouting right
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high... Where knowledge is free...
Need to go back and read what Tagore had thought it would be
Mr Chakravarty appears to be lacking analytical power and prejudiced
Nice debate.. I have no issues with both sides. I only have a problem with half baked journalists who don't have an idea on current affairs
Hehe apar wins ♥️
Could have established what "freedom of speech" means for the audience. that definition itself is divisive I feel. people think its about saying whatver to anyone and everybody things of it in different ways
Reading the comments, evidently people are still confused what free speech is.
To clear things up a bit, Free Speech is a constitutionally guaranteed right where the govt has NO power to limit or restrict what people say. Least of all to jail them for speaking their mind.
This is different from cancelling where people ostracize/condemn their peers for trash talk(whatever it be). How different? For the simple reason, people cannot jail people.
A said something. X heard it and got so enraged that he felt like he needs to burn a couple houses to let out his anger. X went ahead and burned a couple houses cause he was so enraged! Who should be restricted here? A or X. Why couldn’t X learn to express his reaction in non violent ways? Why can’t X reply to words by words?
that is the primal nature of humans of the current world - when you come to a point of giving in to anger and hatred, words are no longer the tools you use to express your feelings and is further fueled when you have others especially if its a mob propelling you to violence
Though I support absolute freedom of speech, I thought Samyak made more sense. The end poll looks skewed because the 'for' fellow really didn't make such a compelling argument
Samyak says - "Your free speech ends where my nose begins" and 2 mins later says - "Don't criticise the country when a foreign President is visiting...? That's a pretty big nose, dude. That's when you lost. Otherwise, well played, but Apar is a damn good opponent to lose to.
Valiant effort but a naive debate. The Delhi riots was not caused by the people which said Goli Maro. The reports are out.
Thank you Faye for providing this platform.
Makes me believe in a beautiful India.
Echochamber.. wasted my time..😂
ok bhakth
Appreciate the effort Faye but pls get right wing speakers with a better IQ if that is possible at all. Even the LGBTQ debate (a while back) where the conservative voice was a right-winger, the man was so damn dumb, the entire debate became unwatchable and quite pointless by the end of it. I know its a tough ask but pls get right wingers with a better IQ if that is humanly possible. Otherwise great effort.
Jab Ghar mein free speech nahi hai toh Bahar kaise aur kyon milegi
Outstanding conversation and very nicely moderated. I land firmly on Apar’a side. Once you give the state the power to regulate speech, it’s only a slippery slope towards authoritarianism and that’s the path India is on today.
We need military rule
The Guy in maroon is in his own realm... He considers World is filled with saints. Tomorrow if someone kills someone, he might end up literally supporting the action.
Quite good but disappointed that Apar kind of fumbled on the Manipur debate. There were quite a few points that could have been made.
Great format. Great hosting and arguments Faye. Apar was so disappointing, I don't know how the audience turned at the end. Maybe it was the use of the word USA. 😂
Indian policy debate, why refer to the U S of America Constitution. Irrelevant reference.
ok uncle
