Update for Pearl Mimic Pro:
With the latest Firmware Update, you can explicitly select the Lemon 18" as Ride Cymbol in the Trigger Settings. With that, there is no issue with Bell/Edge being exchanged and it works perfectly fine.
Totally forgot to do this myself, thank you!
In depth review and analysis, informative. Thank you!
Most complete analysis of Lemon cymbals so far, amazing job! I have 2 13"s, a 15" and a 18" and can't be happier about their performance. Sure an ATV or Roland might feel a bit better but for this price I could just never aford those cymbals
Thanks! Yeah, I completely understand that position and think many people will do the same thing. It's great that there are more accessible options for sizes that aren't terrible quality.
Hello from New York, Luke! Another stellar review. I own one 16" Lemon. And, as a pearl mimic user, I did NOT have to swap out the connector. The 16" triggers ok as a crash. And I use an ATV 18" as a ride. But, for the price, I'm definitely going to purchase a lemon 18" and use it for... well, something. Thank you again for all you do!
Thorough analysis. Could be a nice upgrade for an inexpensive set too!
I play the cymbal on the Pearl mimic pro as a ride. Great quality and the trigger behavior really great. Only had to change the plug, took 5 minutes. Delivery time 2.5 weeks. Many thanks you for the recommendation !!!👍✌️
Awesome!
Nice thorough review.
Thank you!
!!!
I use 2 lemon 18" as main crashes left and right with my TD50X. They're really very good, well balanced, not heavy, and perfectly sensible. I even prefer them to the CY14C that I had before. I was hesitating with ATV 16" crashes, but for the price, I wanted to make a trial. And I had an excellent idea ! ;-)
Very good review
Luke back with the fresh haircut, great video mate 😎
Haha yes, FINALLY! And thank you!
Love it!! Edrum manufacturers…please send this dude more gear to review.
Thank you!
I'd love to see them do a China cymbal. Just got two 15" and the 18"
China cymbals made in china 🤣
Hi Luke, thanks for that detailed review.
What is your hihat cymbal size. it's also a Lemon 15" ? How did you mount it?
Just ordered one. I wondered about the Bell size when I was looking at them. Hoping not a disappointment in that area. I have 13" two zones and they are holding up great.
great review! i have a question, do you think it is possible to rewire this so that you can get a bow/bell input for usage with a dual-zone trigger input?
Hello! I enjoyed this review. Will these cymbals work on the Simmons SD1250?
I ordered the same 18" Lemon cymbal and connected it to my Yamaha DTX-Pro. The bell was also switched with the ride sensor so I opened-up the bottom and swapped the ribbon cables. The bell is now the bell and ride now the ride, however, there is no choke function to the cymbal. Will figure out how to re-wire the choke within time. CHEERS!
Hey Daniel! y que tal te funcionó con el módulo, quiero hacer lo mismo, tuviste que hacer muchos ajustes?
I commented on the other Lemon Video but they must have taken your advice on the packaging bc I got one today from Alibaba and it came with a medium/hard foam piece in the packaging, also came with a rotation stopper in the box. Delivered to USA was $97 USD. It did come reversed wired, but took about 2 minutes to switch - using the TD-30KV.
Great stuff! Always good when a company takes feedback on board with these things.
Any chance on doing a review on the Lemon hi hat and controller? I just picked one up for my TD-17KV, it's seems really nice to me but I have nothing to compare it to. Way cheaper than any of the Roland alternatives.
Wow! great review, is it possible for you to do a review of a Lemon T950 kit? that would be awesome!
Thank you! Unless I'm sent one, I probably won't be able to any time soon. Don't currently have the budget for it. Fingers crossed!
Just got mine today. I've noticed if I choke it in a certain spot it triggers a bell sound no matter where I hit it next. I just moved the ride a little so I don't choke it in that spot but it's weird. Other than that it works perfectly. Had to switch the wire around but it took 10 minutes.
For the price I can't complain at all.
I’m trying to save some money and upgrade my TD -9 to a T -27.
Out of the three inputs that I can save money by NOT going digital, what would you recommend? The ride?
I’m thinking I definitely want the digital snare.
Second, would be the digital hi hat.
Change my mind!
It's difficult to say, really. I do personally find the snare improvements the best, so agree that it should be the priority. If you can get a good deal on getting the module together with pads, the ride is really good, but I suppose it depends how you use it. I haven't used the digital hats so can't really say whether they're better or worse in terms of improvements until I've tested them.
Just ordered an 18”….looking forward to it arriving…
Nice!
Sadly, the thing continued to trigger the bell on the edge, randomly. No matter what I did, swapping the cable, fiddling with the trigger, nothing worked.
I decided to try another because well, why not. I can always use 18” crashes…it arrived, same thing. Nothing was able to rectify the weird triggering.
And mine showed up like yours, in a wrecked box. The worst part, was the seller would not do anything about the issue. He kept asking for a video of the problem, which would not upload. Sad, but I got 2 inexpensive 18” crashes.
I did also buy a 15” yesterday from a dude on eBay. See how that works.
The connector cable was fine, because the bell would trigger, and the bow was fine. Just sporadically, the edge would trigger the bell. Very weird.
(Using a TD17)
Hi, thanks for the video. Do you know which smallest lifeguard exists today? I'm looking for something 5 inches, thanks
Good Video
Got these but i have a nitro mesh. Only works as a normal bow. Nothing comes out of the second input. In still a total noob but are there any modules i should get to go along with it? I wont need a new kit as i bought extra snares and crashes from lemon as well
Great review! I got mine last week. I'm running it on a TD12 and i'm getting the bell sound on the bow with anything above a very light touch. The zones are wired correctly (bell has bell sound, edge has edge sound) but I'm getting constant bell triggering from the bow for some reason. Does anyone know what this might be?
Try changing the midi note inside ur module, it should have 3 separate numbers for the ride...just kind of shuffle them around until u find the bow and so on
Great review! Lemon came out with a two piece hihat sometime recently, any interest on reviewing that? Thanks for the vids
Thank you! Yes, I have one. There was an issue with the controller and I'm waiting on a replacement part, then I can do the review!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Awesome, can't wait!!
You cannot use this 3 zone in a td17 module? same as how Roland 13R plug with one cable?
What did you use for your clutch setup for your lemon hat? I couldn't fit a regular rotation stopper on my clutch and it feels kind of stiff. Also, are you using a VH-10 or a Lemon sensor?
It's just an old Yamaha hi-hat clutch, standard acoustic one. I just pushed it through. It's got rubber washers though rather than felt which helps stop any rotation. And I'm just using a Roland FD-7 pedal, not a moving/hi-hat stand controller!
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Do the rubber washers allow it to sway? I've realized my favourite part of the VH-10, is the level of sway on the clutch, and the softness of the rubber of the cymbal. The louder Lemon rubber is much more apparent with the constant striking of the hat. I'm hoping that with some give from a different clutch setup the noise will be reduced.
Yeah, it does sway quite a bit. If you watch my eDW Originals Premium videos or my PA vs Headphones video, you can see that it moves quite a lot. I don't think the swaying really reduces the noise though.
will they on the atv ad5 module??
what is that clamp/screw that you are using on your cymbals? Are you using these specifically for these cymbals or do they also work with Roland cymbals?
They're the Tama Quick Set Cymbal Mate (QC8). I've used them for years on my acoustic kit and they're really handy as you can just push the buttons together and take them straight off. They work with any cymbals but they do only fit on 8mm posts, not the thinner 6mm ones that some kits come with, so you might need to check your stands if you wanted to get any.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop thanks I really appreciate it and keep drumming and the great videos on your channel coming.
What do you mean at 11:42 ? You said you couldn't make it to work with the bell sens function. What does this function do? In the seconds before that, it seemed like the Lemon Ride would work properly using the edrumin10 besides pos. sensing? Does pos. sensing not work with the Lemon Ride and the edrumin10? And does positional sensing work on the edrumin10 using the Roland CY15r?
Did a bit of research, so bell sens means that you can connect a 3 zone via only 1 stereo cable to the edrumin, right? But still no idea about the pos. sensing
Yes, that's what bell sense is - the ability for the eDRUMin to tell that you're hitting the bell without using the bell switch in the cymbal. It only works properly on certain cymbals. There are preset bell sense modes for the CY-8, CY-12C, CY-13R and CY-15R (the CY-12C one is a recent addition) - how well it works with other brand cymbals varies though as the cymbals are all constructed differently. I believe Rob (the creator) can only really update things to work well with different pads depending on whether or not he has access to them, understandably.
The PS feature for cymbals has only been added on the latest software/firmware version, so it wasn't a feature when I made this review. It does work now and apparently it should work great on Roland cymbals. I haven't tested the feature yet so I don't know how well it works on Lemon cymbals. There is a forum for the eDRUMin on the Audiofront website where people often post the results of their testing with other brands, go have a look - audiofront.net/forum/
I did do a pretty massive eDRUMin review on the channel that explained things like the Bell Sense feature - if you haven't seen it, I'd recommend watching, but it was made on a previous software version and many improvements have been made and features have been added since.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop alright, I guess I almost have enough information to give it a shot finally, but I'll have a look into the forum too. Really cool that he updates stuff like this into the software. I might have to look your eDRUMin review again, watched it already but it seems like I missed out stuff or don't remember plenty of all this information. As I already said, thx so much for answering and helping every time!
hello guys I need help. My problem is the following: I bought an aleis strike pro module, I bought the lemon hats, the problem is that the sounds when I gopeo are executed in different sounds, the areas on the opposite side, the cables I use are kick for the hats
Boa noite amigo sou do brasil que top esses pratos pega na td9 vai vender no MercadoLivre ou vira para o Brasil
this cymbal pad works well with Roland td07 module?
How are Lemon e-drums generally. Apart from just the cymbals?
No idea, unfortunately! Might get chance to review one down the line but not tried any so far.
I recently realized one of my 15" lemons is much louder than the other (acoustically, unplugged), but nothing is loose or seems different than the other one.
Very odd!
Anyone having issues using it on the strike? I had to change the switch but yet still the edge often will trigger the bell zone as well as the edge sound
Does it work with Alesis sample pro pad?
Would that three zone lemon ride work with ALESIS DM10? Anyone know?
Would that 3 zone feature work for a alesis surge module or the cymbal even?
No
Because this uses to inputs the surge for the ride cymbal uses one input cable
If you only have 1 ride input on your module, can you use a splitter to connect to the 2 inputs on the cymbal?
No, you won't be able to just combine the two signals together and expect it to work properly, unfortunately. What module is it? There is a specific cable that is sold by Zourman that can combine the two Roland-style ride outputs into a single one specifically for Yamaha modules, but it's not a cheap cable as it has a resister wired into it. That should also work for other modules like the Mimic that can accept Yamaha wiring, but other modules might not be able to accept that method.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop I haven't bought the kit yet just looking and budget is tight but it's trying to marry budget with setup of like.....I'm looking at the Fame DD-One XT which is similar to Millennium but the fame pad sizes are better (same manufacturer Mideli I think) and I want two crashes and 4 Tom's but the ride is only 12.......I thought about the Yamaha PCY155 15 inch ride as it's only one cable and may still go for that but the 18 lemon would be great. Actually looking to expand to a 3 up 2 down with a couple of splitter cables and as u can imagine trying hard to get as close to an accoustic setup in terms of size and feel as I can even though I know there's compromises there lol
Does the cymbal come with rotation stoppers?
They didn't when I bought them, but a friend of mine bought some recently and they came with them, so looks like they do now.
does anyone work on the td11 module ? I couldn't get the bell zone to sound
Bit of a late adopter here.... Do you know if the Cymbal is piezo (body) switch (edge) and piezo (bell).
My old TD7 only allows piezo/switch triggers for dual zone. Id like a 3 zone cymbal if I can get it to work with my vintage unit lol
Hey. These cymbals are piezo/switch/switch (so switch on edge and bell) like Roland's own 3-zone cymbals.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Thanks so much! I will look into these. I think I can make a 3 zone work with a vintage TD7 (1995 model). I have 2 units - so I can plug the ride/edge into 1 channel of one module and the bell can go into another channel of the second module. .... Hopefully it should work.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop PS Dig your channel!
Would such 3 zone cymbals work well on a td12?I don't care about the size particularly
Hey guys! Anyone know if these cymbals work on Yamaha modules?
I've not tested it myself unfortunately, as I don't own a Yamaha module currently. I don't think you'd get the full 3 zone capability from it due to the two jacks but it *might* work as a 2 zone.
Do they work with the Roland TD-12?
They do indeed! As a 3 zone ride if you're not using the digital ride/another ride already, or as a 2 zone crash.
Hi, is anyone of you using this cymbal with Roland TD12/20 ? Is it working/response good with Roland modules ?
What you think about using as crash?
I mention that it works well as a crash in the review! That's how I will use it, I think, because I have other ride cymbals for the job. The only thing I would say is that it's quite chunky for a crash cymbal - it's pretty tough when you hit it hard, so using it on an angle and making sure you use "glancing blows" is the best way!
Hi buddies, did anyone of you notice the edge switch closing when hitting the bow area harder?
I mean, I use an Audiofront eDrumIn10 module and I modified the cymbal to a single output 3 zone Yamaha style ride.
Maybe that is the reason for that behavior, I don't no, what is changed in the modules input change, when switching from 2 zone cymbal to 3 zone Yamaha style.
Hey! This hasn't happened to me, so I can't really offer any insight.
Does anyone know if i can connect 18" Digitial Roland cymbal to Alesis strike module?..... ordered Roland and Lemon too. Please assist :)
You can't connect any USB pads to the Alesis Strike, no. There is a "workaround" using a USB MIDI Host that makes them work in some way with other modules, but it's limited (I have a video about it on the channel) and I haven't actually tried it with the Strike. Definitely not worth doing, in my opinion due to the limitations and cost - you'll get better results with a good "analog" ride.
Thank you yes i bought and realized it ..im gonna return and wait for lemon which is in the mail. Thanks just subbed too
Whats the acoustic volume like on these?
I made a volume comparison of this cymbal and 3 other 18" rides in this video (at around 30 minutes in) - ua-cam.com/video/hs5jBaKfOkY/v-deo.html
New subscriber here❤
wil they work on the 2box module ?
Yes, I've used mine with the DrumIt 5 MKII, should work with the 3 as well. There's a very brief demo of it on my 2Box DrumIt 5 MKII review in the Triggering section. Not sure if the original 5 module supports 2 cable Roland-style rides though.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop thanks. but i am going to buy the roland td 27 module and digital snare and ride. i love my 2box sounds and tom sounds but snare and hihat triggering is a never ending struggle. i hate the roland sounds but the triggering is the best of the best. i am happy to come back to you when everything is up and running.
Boa noite amigo sou wagmer aqui do Brasil a onde encontra esses pratos a venda
Olá. Há um link na descrição do Alibaba, onde você pode comprar esses pratos.
Finally !
The era of crappy single zone cymbals is over (looking at you Millennium)
Choke function?
Yes, it chokes. Any 2 or 3 zone cymbal that uses a switch for the edge can choke 😃
Correction, those are not being made by oriental gears. I know the guy who operates oriental gears and he is just a reseller of lemon products
You're right, I meant to say "sold by", not "made by" but I'd already finished the edit. Similar situation to Jobeky with their branded ones, but presumably just using the "unbranded" cymbal option when ordering. Should've known someone would pick up on it 😂
I bought one off of ali baba. The cymbal is sheap, but remember the $35.00 delivery fee.
So this cymbal will not work with a TD-17?
Sorry, where did you get that impression? I state in the video that it works.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop I apologize. I must have missed it.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop you actually play a bit using the TD 17. I did miss it.
@@boneheded2819No problem at all! Works well with the CY-15R preset.
It's compatible with yamaha module?
As far as I know, you wouldn't be able to get 3 zones out of it on a Yamaha module because they use different wiring. It would probably work as a 2 zone cymbal (bow and edge), but I don't have a Yamaha module to confirm that.
Do you get a cymbal stopper at the time of purchase?
I didn't with mine but apparently they now include them with orders.
For the yamaha module, it can only have 2 zones, can the sound produced be bow and bell?
As I said, I don't have a Yamaha module so I don't know for sure. I think you can usually assign any sound to any zone on Yamaha modules, but you would need to check the manual of the module you have/are looking at to confirm!
Yeah the bell sense feature of the edrumin works only with roland cymbals and even with them is not 100% accurate, wirh any other cymbal is hit or miss…
How loud are these cymbals compared to Roland ones? I don't want to piss off my family.
I'd say they're a little louder on the bow/edge because the rubber isn't quite as soft as Roland's, but maybe not quite as loud on the bell zone because it doesn't have a much plastic directly below the bell rubber. I made a video a bit ago that might help with some context for noise levels when compared to other 18" rides -
ua-cam.com/video/hs5jBaKfOkY/v-deo.html
Wat the module brain?
Most of the playing examples and shots of the triggering are using the TD-50X module.
Any MILLENIUM users out there, any idea if it is compatible with Millennium modules?
Coming from a baldy, I just can't understand how you have that many follicles on your head 🤔🤔🤔
😅 Just lucky, I guess!
