There's something just different about Zelda cases and special editions man...Also I have that same Switch case and my very first UA-cam video was about Orzly! Wild. Cheers my dude, great video! I learned a lot about these 3DS accessories!
There really is something different about Zelda themed stuff. It just elevates it higher than all the others. That's really cool you have the Orzly case too! It's surprised me at how good it is for the price
I have the red Mario kart case you showed for my New 3ds XL. I love how it has the flap to secure the device from moving around and it can hold 6 games and 2 extra stylus’s. It’s very protective as well, I always carry it in my backpack wherever I go and never have had any issues. Nice video!
Only have two n3DS XL units myself. A pikachu with my account on it forever tucked away at home with a basic hard shell case and I also imported a pearl white LL I use for carts and retro emu. Ashamedly I don’t put it in a case but might now :D You’re right. These are so delicate and should be cared for. The repair videos I’ve seen online make it seem like you need a degree to get anything fixed. Great vid!
Thanks for watching! They are definitely worth getting cases for them. The way I see it is, I can spent $10 and keep it protected. Or I can spend the current going rate of a used console to replace it when I inevitably drop it or mess it up somehow. Those are really cool editions you have!
I use a switch lite hyperkin case to carry both my new 3ds and 2ds xl systems with a single charger. It fits snug enough to avoid the systems from being banged around but not too tight that it breaks a screen. Highly recommend it
Man I have so many of the same cases you have. The NES hard case, the switch case, the mario kart 2ds case, the black and turquoise case. It seems like cases are hard to find now but I still need to grab a few more. Great video. A topic that I was not expecting but one I think is important to highlight as a collector.
That's awesome that you have some of the same ones! They are getting much harder to find now. I've been on the lookout for new ones on the second had market. Surprisingly I've found a few that are very reasonably priced.
I use both shell cases and then travel cases. I bought a sealed red o3DS last year and it always resides in the first silver 3DS case I got in 2012. 7:07 This one to be exact :D
I heard many great things about them! I've looked into them myself. I have noticed some people say that they can scratch up your consoles when you put them on and take them off, so be careful when doing that. I was recently recommended the soft TPU shells. I guess they are fantastic and offer better grip for your hands.
@@NeanderMeanderjust put it carefully and leave it forever 🤷🏻♂️ Unfortunately soft cases will get yellow in one month like soft phone cases and it will get even darker after that, make sure to get a solid color (black,blue....) To nake the yellowing not noticable like white or transparent
Thank you so much! I sincerely appreciate you watching my videos. I really didn’t think anyone would like them. I’m glad to know that there are some people that like them.
Waterfield had a limited run of cases for the PS Vita and the N3DS a while back, they fit so snugly and even have space to put the charger cable. Easily the highest quality cases on the market. I've had mine for a year and neither show any signs of wear, though the leather has developed a nice patina! They currently make very similar cases for the Switch and the Switch Lite, I highly recommend them!
I remember when I was getting back onto handheld gaming a few years ago, I made the idiotic mistake of choosing my limited edition Majora's Mask N3DSXL as my go-to console. Even treating it as carefully as I could, the simple fact was that I was keeping it in my pocket a lot of the time. And after about five years of dedicated use...yeah, some of that gold paint chipped off on one of the corners. It's not _nearly_ as bad as it should be, only really noticeable if you look real hard at the back of the unit, but still...that tiny chip fucking haunts me haha.
That's too bad. But, you've gotten a ton of use out of it in 5 years I'm sure. I've always been really careful with my 3DS consoles. The paint or whatever Nintendo used for the New 3DS XL's is so delicate. It's surprising they didn't do something different for them. I love that Majora's Mask edition. I've never actually seen one in real life. They were so hard to get when they came out.
i do the opposite where i buy my stuff used and in already slightly scuffed condition so that i don't feel like i have to treat the system with excessive care and can just use it casually. to each their own
Used stuff is different. I don't have a case for my Cosmo black original 3DS. It has scratches all over it. But, for my new consoles, I get a case for them right away. Which the majority of my 3DS consoles were purchased brand new.
I was just looking through your channel a few days ago trying to see if you did a video on cases. Been looking for a slim case for my Black Friday edition new 3DS but it seems like all the nice ones are made for the XL sadly.
That's too bad. That's the one thing I don't like about the New 3DS XL's. That wrap they used on it is awful. It's almost as if it was made out of sugar.
About the zelda leather looking case, over time the plastic that forms the leather texture will start to peel from the actual case body. I've owned my case for maybe 4-5 years now and it's peeling. So, while it is beautiful, it won't last forever and you'll eventually have to replace it.... Unless you don't mind having bits of rubbery plastic flaking off your case
Thanks for the heads up! Not being real leather, I knew it would start to peel and flake eventually. Especially if it's heavily used. So far mine has held up with no problems. I'll make sure to handle it gently.
Great video! I wish the same could be said about phone cases but you almost never get to admire the beauty of phone design due to the case always being on.
I had a new 3ds xl, loved it and i bought a leather zelda pouch to hold it, sadly over time scratches come to the case and changing plates aint easy for my new3dsxl
I've been really intrigued by the Waterfield cases. They look really nice, I'm just really cheap. They are quite expensive. Though, if they protect the system well, it will be worth the price.
Just a heads up, they are going to have a small time window for a small batch order this september for that case. I get notifications from them since i had bought some of thier products.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching this video. It was one I've always wanted to make because there isn't a ton of information about these cases out there.
My new 3ds xl is the fire emblem one. I adore it and imported a black and orange butterfox case from the US to keep it safe. Just looking at it gets me hyped
Man I really regret not getting handhelds from late 2000's to 2017. I don't know what the hell I was doing... But Nintendo has not given us amazing switch consoles as oppose to the 3ds. The Yoshi, Samus, Snes Smash and list goes on..... We just get bland colors going back to the original days of n64. Nintendo was making great shells each console went by and they revert back to it's old days.
I, too, went through the Orzly Switch screen protector to 3DS case pipeline on Amazon between 2017 and 2018 lol 😆 Might you have a link for that hard case you daily drive? Specifically the one you cut into to fit your main Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition New 3DS XL. I’d love to get my hands on one to protect my own family of systems.
years ago i bought a beat up used "new 3ds" with the changeable face plates from a gamestop here in the US but i sold it and it never left my mind so 7 years later i just recently purchased it brand new with the box and i have it stored in this black leather "new 3ds" nintendo case i also bought on a japan site in used condition that i havent seen anywhere else online and its inside of a detolf glass shelf lmao its nothing special not a cool edition its just the most stunning electronic device ive ever laid my eyes on and hope to keep it as mint as i possibly can. The 3ds is truly special & at 1:35 no lies were told!
I understand why someone wouldn't care about buying console variants. It really doesn't make sense to buy more than one of the same console. There's just something about the 3DS special editions that makes me happy. That's the only reason why.
Yes, I would recommend a screen protector. I use them on all my 3DS's and 2DS's. I haven't ever used the clear cases. But I can't imagine it would be a bad thing to have them on your console.
The fire emblem one is also my daily driver! I love cases, especially for the 3DS and Vita as that glossy finish while beautiful, is way too scratch prone haha. The first thing I do for any new console is screen protector and nice case. Great video Neander! (P.S nice Metroid 3DS)
Is it really!? I love the design of it! The white interior with the black buttons contrasting against it is the best looking 3DS in my opinion. The Metroid 3DS really photographed well. It's sparkles on video!
@Neander Meander yeah I love the black and white and the super subtle design of it. I also love the memory of how I got it. Me and my hubbs were one of our first roadtrips and we're gamehunting and exploring food places, we got some really good ramen then stopped at a pawnshop and it was sitting there for 80$ 🤯
Another great video man! Your videos are like nerd zen for me. I’ve mentioned before that I think you’d dig the steam deck, and when talking about cases, they ship even the base model with a really nice case. These videos really make me nostalgic for a time that was only like a decade ago….it makes me wonder if we are all going to look back on the switch and everything switch related in the same way.
I'm so glad you like my videos. It's good knowing there are people out there that like them. I've been seriously looking into getting a Steam Deck. I'll probably do it whenever they go on sale again. I think we will look back on the Switch very fondly. I know I will. I like the Switch probably as much as my 3DS and Wii U.
I'm so bummed that I never got a Hori case. Love the Zelda and Mario designs. I've had my OG 3DS and my New 3DS XL since both came out and somehow never occurred to me until recently to get a case.
I wish cases for the New 3DS XL like the one you showed third still were made. The quality is so good for that one and I just can't find anything as good.
for anyone wondering they used to be made by PowerA, who have since stopped manufacturing them. I found one on ebay for about $200 as a rare item but yeah. They're gone for good.
I own 4 3DS consoles. My first one is an original blue ambassador 3DS and I gave that one to my girlfriend so it has some scratches. she returned it because she eventually bought a New 3DSXL and returned my old 3DS. Which is perfect because eventually I plan on getting a shell replacement for it but havent found the shell I really want. the black and gold zelda shell. (Dear Shen-Zhen manufacturer that happens to read this... please I beg you...) Because all my other 3DS are the 3 Zelda XL models. The hyrule edition New 3DSXL has not even been unboxed. I originally only bought the Link between worlds 3DSXL because I wanted the bigger screens. So i did play with it but I tried my best protecting it. It does have 2 tiny scratches though. Then they announced the Majoras Mask New 3DSXL and since MM is my absolute fav Zelda game, I just had to buy it. The case with the NES controller on it seems really nice so i might be getting one of these for that console since its not protected and always in use :P. Well and when they announced the Hyrule edition one I decided to get it as an investment. I wish they would have released the New 2DSXL Hylian Shield edition in my country. I would have gotten that too.
So when I bought my 3ds it came with the original box with all its manuals, a charger and a case. The case was severely weathered, which gave me hopes for the 3ds I mean the listing images on eBay didn’t look bad. To my surprise I was wrong the 3ds was in similar conditions. Although the box was in almost new condition.
I've had many 3dses over the years (broken or lost cuz i was a dumb kid) but i still have a beaten up zelda case I always put my current 3ds in when im done playing it.
Great shots as usual. Glad to see all the gear and how important protection is for valued equipment. I think this works for everything. You have a vehicle, and take care of it. It's value is higher and will appreciate it more. Once it's junky, you start to care less and less and it snowballs from there.
This was such a cool vid! I havd quite a few cases for mine and also my Switches. I have a cool Links Awakening case for my Lite. All my console are not only protected by cases but by clear shells to prevent any scratches.
Awesome! I have a Link's Awakening case for my Switch Lite as well. I love Link's Awakening, so it was no-brainer for me to pick it up. I might do a video about my Switch cases. If this video does well, I'll most likely do it.
@@NeanderMeander yes I do! I only wish I had it CIB. I got it from someone online that sold it super cheap because "my son doesn't use it" it was super grimy but luckily it had screen protectors and once I took them off and cleaned it, it looked brand new. No scratches on it.

i only have a white 2ds and n2ds with two accidental ips screens, but i am saving for a hhd edition currently. this makes me want to get an actually nice case
@@NeanderMeander I havent been able to find a case that can hold the 3DS with a grip. So when I travel it just lives in a pocket of my bag, something I consider to be a downside.
I always wanted cases for my ds consoles, however I'm afraid the L and R buttons will be squished in a case and then be broken because of that. Is it a real concern or they'll be fine If the get pressed all the time in the case?
I had the same concern with my first hard case. Nintendo added two additional shoulder buttons so it didn't fit in the case without the inner buttons always be pressed. I didn't want to risk it so I cut the rubber in the case to make it fit. It wasn't worth the risk.
I use a 2011 case for one of my New 3DS's and I for my other New 3DS I use a New 3DS XL case, but it has thick padding on the top to hold it secure inside. I show them in the video if you'd like to see how they fit inside those cases.
Who knew that the 3DS would become so sought after? I didn't. I used to see people bashing it all the time. Right before Covid I was picking up 3DS consoles for under $30. It's crazy how quickly things changed during that time.
oh my god... as i was watching this i had set my chair ON MY 3DS! if it didnt have a case on it would have been destroyed- I have no clue how that even happened but its all the more reasons everyone should keep theirs in a case!
I have a few cases for my Switch too. I made this video to see how well this subject would do. If it does well, I'll make a video about my Switch cases.
I never understood why people don't buy cases. $200+ for a new system? Sure. $20 for a case, nah. Btw I have that Gameboy case too and found that the latch button opens when I didn't want it to. Other than that it's solid.
I’ve never understood it either. For something so small, it does so much. I love the look of the Game Boy case. But you’re right, the button opens all the time unexpectedly.
I didn't include any links because most of them aren't available to buy in stores or even Amazon. I'm sure some of them can be found on eBay, but those are from private sellers.
This is so much more pronounced of an issue now than back then. 3ds systems are SO much more expensive and much rarer than before.
That's true! They are becoming increasing harder to find at a reasonable price and in good shape.

I absolutely loved your video comparing physical and digital games! It was very well made and I think both sides got their points across without it getting out of hand.
@@NeanderMeander We would love to collab. If you have something in mind just hit us up anytime and we're game! Thanks so much for the love on our current video. It was a fun one to make
There's something just different about Zelda cases and special editions man...Also I have that same Switch case and my very first UA-cam video was about Orzly!
Nice video!
That's a great case! I love how protective it is. The Mario Kart theme is pretty great too
I have that same Zelda 3DS case at 7:32! The brown leather on the front is starting to peel, though.
Oh no! I’ll have to be very delicate when handling mine
That's awesome!
Consider getting a transparent hard body case for the console itself
They're super cheap and can take some drops
I heard many great things about them! I've looked into them myself. I have noticed some people say that they can scratch up your consoles when you put them on and take them off, so be careful when doing that. I was recently recommended the soft TPU shells. I guess they are fantastic and offer better grip for your hands.
@@NeanderMeanderjust put it carefully and leave it forever 🤷🏻♂️
Unfortunately soft cases will get yellow in one month like soft phone cases and it will get even darker after that, make sure to get a solid color (black,blue....) To nake the yellowing not noticable like white or transparent
Another great video man 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I’ll be here for the long run as always
Thank you so much! I sincerely appreciate you watching my videos. I really didn’t think anyone would like them. I’m glad to know that there are some people that like them.
Waterfield had a limited run of cases for the PS Vita and the N3DS a while back, they fit so snugly and even have space to put the charger cable. Easily the highest quality cases on the market. I've had mine for a year and neither show any signs of wear, though the leather has developed a nice patina! They currently make very similar cases for the Switch and the Switch Lite, I highly recommend them!
Those Waterfield cases are really nice. I haven't bought any, but I have friends who have and they love them. I'm tempted to get one for my Switch.
Yeah, not many cases were made for it. Though, the cases made for the original 3DS usually fit really well.
I love how niche this video is
This video helped me find the perfect carry case for my 3DS, not 100% accurate but the Brunswick DS Bowling case was hard to pass up lol.
The quality in this video is amazing
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you so much for watching
0:42 my new 3ds xl wishes it only had the 'lived in look,' half of the navy wrapping has come off
That's too bad. That's the one thing I don't like about the New 3DS XL's. That wrap they used on it is awful. It's almost as if it was made out of sugar.
Thanks for the video!
Oh wow! Thank you so much for this! I'm really glad you like them!
@@NeanderMeander you deserve so much more subs!

That's true. A phone case changes the phone feel and look.
Nice video man, I have some of these cases as well. I love the variety that exists for the 3ds. Already looking forward to your next video.
Thank you for watching! There are so many different cases to choose from. I’ll have to make one about Switch cases.
I had a new 3ds xl, loved it and i bought a leather zelda pouch to hold it, sadly over time scratches come to the case and changing plates aint easy for my new3dsxl
I got that leather pouch too, but I can't find it. I remember it being really cool!
Waterfield cityslicker is peak design for 3ds (unfortunately discontinued) and switch. They also make a case for the Analogue pocket.

For clear protective cases always go for TPU material. Crystal and Aluminum ones scratch the system with madness.
Great advice! I’ve heard this before. I’m having a hard time finding a TPU clear cover.
@@NeanderMeanderThe official Nintendo licensed hori brand one is super hard to find nowadays… let me know if you find a cheap off-brand alternative!

My new 3ds xl is the fire emblem one. I adore it and imported a black and orange butterfox case from the US to keep it safe. Just looking at it gets me hyped
Awesome! I love my Fire Emblem special edition. I just looked up Butterfox cases and they look nice
I got a case that came with Persona Q and I put a microfiber cloth between the screens.
I, too, went through the Orzly Switch screen protector to 3DS case pipeline on Amazon between 2017 and 2018 lol 😆
Might you have a link for that hard case you daily drive?
This was awesome to read! Thanks for writing it
Ill never understand collecting console variants but you do you
I understand why someone wouldn't care about buying console variants. It really doesn't make sense to buy more than one of the same console. There's just something about the 3DS special editions that makes me happy. That's the only reason why.
Would you recommend a clear case and/or screen protector on top of a carrying case? Thanks and great video as always, top notch quality.
Yes, I would recommend a screen protector. I use them on all my 3DS's and 2DS's. I haven't ever used the clear cases. But I can't imagine it would be a bad thing to have them on your console.
I got a case hoping to protect it. Then it slipped out and then the hinge cracked and got glued back on. I mean it wasnt a 3ds case, but still.
Me and my hubbs were one of our first roadtrips and we're gamehunting and exploring food places, we got some really good ramen then stopped at a pawnshop and it was sitting there for 80$ 🤯
@@Skrillerwolf $80! Wow! That is amazing!
Those cases are very well made. I think I picked mine up on clearance for around $5. I wish I would have gotten a few more.
snap on cases are really important for most new 3ds xl models since the back is prone to the colour chipping
That's true! Did Nintendo make them out of sugar or something?
I wish cases for the New 3DS XL like the one you showed third still were made. The quality is so good for that one and I just can't find anything as good.
for anyone wondering they used to be made by PowerA, who have since stopped manufacturing them. I found one on ebay for about $200 as a rare item but yeah. They're gone for good.
I love those cases! I wish I would have picked up more when they were easy to find.
I AINT READING ALLAT 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
So when I bought my 3ds it came with the original box with all its manuals, a charger and a case. The case was severely weathered, which gave me hopes for the 3ds I mean the listing images on eBay didn’t look bad. To my surprise I was wrong the 3ds was in similar conditions. Although the box was in almost new condition.
Really cool! That's amazing the box was in such good condition
Hey man. Great video! Quick question, but does the Zelda one have straps inside to hold the DS in place?
It does have straps on the inside. I usually don't use them, but they are there. Thanks for watching
I've had many 3dses over the years (broken or lost cuz i was a dumb kid) but i still have a beaten up zelda case I always put my current 3ds in when im done playing it.
That's good! Cases have saved my 3DS's from being beaten up over the years. It's good to know other keep theirs in a case too.

Great shots as usual. Glad to see all the gear and how important protection is for valued equipment. I think this works for everything. You have a vehicle, and take care of it. It's value is higher and will appreciate it more. Once it's junky, you start to care less and less and it snowballs from there.
You're so right! Once that nice thing starts to become not so nice, we tend to not take care of them. Great point!
This was such a cool vid! I havd quite a few cases for mine and also my Switches. I have a cool Links Awakening case for my Lite. All my console are not only protected by cases but by clear shells to prevent any scratches.

i only have a white 2ds and n2ds with two accidental ips screens, but i am saving for a hhd edition currently. this makes me want to get an actually nice case
That's a good idea to just use the top and put the grip on the bottom. I might have to try this out.
Hey, Neander Meander, do you have any suggestions for new 3ds specific cases, or could I be fine with a 2011 3ds case
I use a 2011 case for one of my New 3DS's and I for my other New 3DS I use a New 3DS XL case, but it has thick padding on the top to hold it secure inside. I show them in the video if you'd like to see how they fit inside those cases.
I have the lived in look on my MH New Nintendo 3DS. console. I really regret that but learned my lesson after that.
