Whenever Tom Durkin said “victory Gallup is gathering momentum” you knew he would be there in the end, wouldn’t always win but he would be there. A very good under appreciated horse.
Watching this after 25-1 long shot Mongolian Groom won the 2019 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita Racetrack. I gotta say that I doubt there’ll ever be as deep of a field than the ‘98 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

I think Awesome Again deserved to be Horse of the Year. Anyways, Adena retired him from Stud Duty today. All the Best to Awesome Again on his retirement!!!
I recently saw a video of Awesome Again and Milwaukee Brew being retired to the Old Friends farm. Lazy days for those 2. A wonderful life for the rest of it. They both still look great.
The Best Breeders Cup Classic Field in history was the 1996 Classic Field when Alphabet Soup held off Cigar and Louis Quatorez! My fave Breeders Cup Classic Winner was/is Alphabet Soup! For Two Reasons his Name was/is adorable and his coat was just the prettiest coat I ever seen! No offense but his coat was/is more beautiful than Skip Away's and Black Tie Affair's coats! But every Grey and White Horse is pretty! They are my fave horses cause their coats are my fave color and plus they make me happy when I see one!
Dettori is no one’s dummy. He knew if he looked Silver Charm in the eye, Swain would never get by him so he took him out there purposely. Stevens had to bring Charm out to see Swain because Stevens wasn’t an idiot either.
Absolutely right I don't think dettori should be allowed to race in America after this It cost me and I've never forgiven him Animal abuse. If he doesn't hit him relentlessly he wins
@@chriscurtis8341 WHAT!! Dettori was too busy hitting his horse to notice his horse drifting.I don't think he would of won what ever he did but it didn't help..
@@DUCSDREAM Frankie was young back then. Let it go. He took alot of stick as jockeys do when they are seen to make what looks an error. It made him better really in future.
Y'all wrong, Silver Charm wins this race if Stevens just kept him straight, the track had taken Alot of rain, and the good part of the track was the 3 path! Instead he guides him to the Outside, to look Swain " in the eye" not only got out of the good part of the track, lost his momentum, going sideways, but most importantly, opened up the hole for the winner, where he would have to gone sideway, to the outside, in the bad part of the track! Charm, still got 2nd beaten 3/4 of a length. Silver Charm was the best horse in a stellar field..!!!
How many horses did Silver Charm have to beat down the stretch? He saw Coronado’s Quest, put him away, so Stevens takes him to the middle of the track to see Swain and beats him and caught by a flying Awesome Again. Silver Charm wanted to compete but just wouldn’t run away and hide.

RIP Awesome Again 12-15-20
His name is awesome
Probably the best Breeders' Cup Classic field in history.
2004 is up there also
I came here to make that very comment! Incredibly deep field, good talent from top to bottom.
Absolutely
Can’t dispute that, and what a finish
300% agree
Whenever Tom Durkin said “victory Gallup is gathering momentum” you knew he would be there in the end, wouldn’t always win but he would be there. A very good under appreciated horse.
What an amazing race and an amazing call by Tom Durkin. Absolute Legend!
R.I.P. Awesome Again
Ok, that's one of the sweetest races I've seen. It was like the last day of school down the stretch. Wow
I just learned about this particular race today!
I also just met and took a picture with Silver Charm as well🤩🥳

Awesome Again with an impressive victory over a strong field
Never again will we see a better field assembled for the Classic.....

Nice finish
This was an extremely talented field of horses!
RIP Swain (p.s. Frankie Dettori is delighted that so much time has passed since 1998!).
I never get tired of watching this race...what a finish!

“Not today for Skipaway”
WOW .. what a race .. what a star studded field .. AWESOME !! :)
Incredible field, incredible race!!!
Silver Charm my second favorite horse of the 90's behind Real Quiet.
Same
Real Quiet was in terrible condition when he retired. He didn't make it to that year's BC Classic.

what a field...and what an epic race!
And what an even more awesome finish it was!!
What a caliber field, WOW.

One wild race!
Awesome winning on the wrong lead
Swain was robbed, Dettori lost Swain this race. An absolute shocking ride.

Swain likely wins if he didn’t run sideways down the lane.

To be fair Swain should have won easily

Why did the #2 go so far outside?
Swain wins by 2 if he doesn't take a right turn before the wire...
DanielSong39 nah
DanielSong39 that was bad. Was he lookin for nachos at the concession stands?
He was way wide. Where was his jockey taking him?
